I am a portable Sawmill owner, beginning with the purchase of a Norwood HD 36 portable sawmill in 2018, partnering with a friend, who has since moved on and I am now running the mill on my own. I am running a side business with my sawmill. Milling custom lumber for friends and family, and locally.

Getting our WELL DRILLED! And digging trenches!
Переглядів 185Місяць тому
In this video I’m digging some trenches with a trencher I rented. And the guy that’s drilling my well is finally here to drill our well! They hit water around 300-350 ft. But I had him go down to 400 ft so we could have a reservoir for it to fill up, since the well is only about a 1/2-1 gallon per minute. So it’s not the best water pressure, but I’m thankful that we have a well! It cost us $5,0...

When you cannot get 16' 4x4s or 4x6s, how do they splice the skids together???
its cool but only for small logs, unless you have a massive tractor.
Yeah i can see the defect in that blade. The seams are iffy on some blades
Great design. Thanks for sharing.
Does it snipe a lot? What I’ve read on the forums is people were unhappy with the amount of sniping? Also are you happy with the weight of the machine? I’m very interested in buying the machine but one of my major concerns is it lacks the weight and sturdiness to fight vibration and durability.
Yes it did that quite a bit. If you have extra on your wood that can just be trimmed off. I thought it was fine. I had a problem with the bolt that screws into the headers. The one side kinda stripped out when I was trying to change a head. It was a bit finicky to get threaded properly. But over all I think it was a good machine for the money. If you had a nice table on each side for lumber, or especially heavy slabs that would make it super nice!
I wish you success on your work. You are explaining your steps very well. Please keep us informed frequently.
You finished the presentation be saying 'It all comes down to personal preference'. But you didn't buy for preferential features, you bought it purely on price. You bought the cheapest entry level saw that woodland sells and then say you don't like the features you got and the better features you wish you had but refused to pay for? And then compare it to a much more expensive saw that had the features you were willing to pay for in the Norwood? I appreciate your video but your complaints weren't Woodlands poor engineering but you underbuying the features you wanted that were readily available from them.
Actually I didn’t buy the woodland mill, It’s my neighbors mill, he lets me use it.
Sorry to hear about the misfortune on the wood floor damage and the wells not being satisfactory. I’m proud of you for how you keep pushing through!
Thankyou, it was a struggle, but I got it all put back together, and put flooring on it now.
Hi Caleb. I've been following your amazing work, along with the ups and downs for more than two years and I'm so happy that you've landed on your feet and are doing well. You are always upbeat and willing to work your way through. As a hands-on general contractor for over 40 years, I applaud your quick grasp of the various trades. Please bear in mind that waste lines should not have 90 degree bends. Use long sweeps or 45s. Also, install wyes for cleanouts. Wishing you best of luck on the water, I hope to hear that's resolved!
Hi Charlie, Thankyou for your support and encouragement! I’ve done roofing for quite about 10 years, and some building as well, I’m fairly new to plumbing though, and haven’t done much electrical either. Thankyou for the tips. I only used one 90 degree elbow. And that was where it turns comes up out of the ground. Other than that, just 45’s and straight couplings. We have a temporary water setup right now, using IBC totes. Waiting on the well guy to drill the well deeper.
thanks!
Good looking mailbox post and stand that will last for years. Blessings to you folks.
Thankyou Bill! You too!
How long were your panels?
Full length. I forget what exact length it was now, 12 ft maybe
I see a spiritually empowered couple making a positive impact on future generations in more than one way!
I realize that this video is a year old, but just in case someone new sees it I'm going to add an observation here. All manufacturers that use roller guides, as far as I know, recommend leaving about 1/8" clearance between the flange on the back of the roller guide and the blade. That may account for the added noise he heard.
Yes, good observation! I believe I had it set that way, but when you’re pushing through a cut, the blade will naturally get picked back against the roller back flange. Could be the blade needed to be changed.
@@Plankmills The Cooks say that the blade shouldn't deflect enough to rub on the flange. Mine don't on my AC36. I run 1 1/2" x.055 blades though.
Love the layout & design very practical!
Those old blade rollers are so much better than the new ceramic.
I didnt think you were going to clear the knob on the log on your first cut. looks like good solid wood
It did, It had a lot of worm holes in the outer portion! But it definitely made some beautiful slabs
That log will provide many, many feet of nice boards. Blessing to you.
Eeee, svaka ti dala,,,, kojoj predlozis seks.
I hope your well drilling is cheaper than here in MD.
I paid 8,000 for 400 ft.
@@Plankmillsthat seems like a reasonable price!
Yes! I think it was. I paid cash so he also took off the price of the casing which was over $400.
@@Plankmills I think my dad paid $10K for a 410 foot well in Wisconsin in about 1999. I would’ve thought today it would be at least 50% more.
@johnyoder636 oh wow! Yeah you would think, it probably is in most places. I guess I got a good deal. But I still have the well pump and all that that still needs to be installed. And I got a quote for that, which was $5,800. So it’ll be around $14k by the time it’s all said and done.
You work like a young man, I had forgotten how that was. Keep it up for as long as possible.
Great work!!! Well-designed and strong! ☺️
So beautiful!!! ❤
❤❤
Terrific work. Moving along quickly. Thanks for taking us along !
Good video, it’s unbelievable how big some stumps can get.
Boa noite qual largura da lâmina e qual o passo do dente ?
Nice! I'll spare you the consequences of the mistake I made when wiring the 30 amp RV plug. I first wired it to 240 volt and it blew the (i forget what it's called) in the RV. They are made for 120 volt.
Looking good!
Needs a few more like buttons. 😂 I clicked like in the first 2 minutes and can’t accelerate it any further. ❤❤❤
Haha yeah!
Very nice work! Wish it was that straightforward in California!
Right!
Great work!!!
Thankyou!
I "up graded as well for our 36 v2. They sent a whole new brackets that looked good at least on the "before cut side or inlet side", it had provisions for coolant. I have real reservations on the quality on the "Exit cut side brackets". The new roller guide kit / upgrade, came with ceramic pucks on the under side for both the inlet cut side and exit cut side. this worked well for the first 5-10 logs, mostly pine. After that it would shack and vibrate something fierce at times. Usually I could slow down the feed and some what control this . I figured that I needed to adjust to this new blade guide system. BUT the reality was that the exit side bracket was fatiguing with every pass. Today with less that 20 logs on these new blade guides, the exit side bracket, folded over like cheep crack addict hooker needing a new shot of her drug of choice. In all fairness I did contact Noorwood and came back with " we never heard of such a thing" & "we are forwarding your concern to our engineering department". So well see about the famous customer service. Which has been pretty good so far! But in the mean time I am embarrassed in front of my customer with constant fiddling and adjustments and eventually brake down. I put the original ceramic exit side guide back on and re-leveled as best I could and whaallaa, the vibration and shacking stopped.
When Ours would bind as your described. One of the carriage rollers would have jump and not tracking in the groove of the roller. Usually the left front from the operators station.
That's awesome man, I love seeing the progress. You'll have a beautiful property by the time you're done with it 👍
❤💪man that’s nice I had to subscribe God bless brother
Great video!
Before you know it, you will be pouring concrete.
Hopefully in a month or so
anxious to watch your progress
Septic install video coming very soon!
She’s just marrying you for your sawmill ; )
😆😆
Excellent work!
Thankyou!
I was wondering if you had sold your Norwood Saw Mill? Or if you just bought a woodland mills at your new place?
I sold the Norwood mill, because I loved to TN. (Now I really wish I wouldn’t have sold it) And this woodland mill I’m using is my neighbors. Not mine.
Very cool.
You are very skilled. I'll enjoy following your progress on your own homestead!
Thankyou!
Good video. I advise to use your goggles to protect your eyes.
That would be a good idea. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, the sawdust really gets in your eyes.
As usual, everything you build is amazing. Even though it's not "authentic" consider shooting spray foam in gaps to fill completely to eliminate bug and wasps and rot for longevity!
The stairs will last for many years because of your quality craftsmanship. Blessings to you.
Thankyou Bill!
Nice job, that whole scribing thing looks complicated. I guess once you do it a couple of times it becomes easier
Thankyou! It was kinda. Right.
Nice build young man.
Thankyou
