@Apfelkind4000 Which is honestly refreshing and it surprisingly doesn’t affect the pacing or payoff of each arc. The choice of removing play-by-play experiences in favor of more visual cues and world-building in fights really compliments this anime’s overall themes.
Frieren's previous party have already had outstanding members. A priest with really strong holy magic, a dwarf with unparallel endurance and strength, and the hero as a human defeating a Demon King for the first time. But their disciples have even more potential. They only lack experience.
Was it every explicitly stated in the Manga the hero defeated the demon king? Everything seems to imply Frieren defeated him and let the hero take credit because she never wanted to be famous. Not that the hero wasn't likely strong. But lets face it he never actually was the hero. (he fails to pull the hero sword after all.)

Either way, Himmel was already shown to be strong, as shown in one of the flashbacks of Frieren, if I recall it correctly, he nonchalantly blitzed a demon to save a child.
I felt the panic from 1:45 to 1:57 like she was going to make some point about him needing to fight his own battles but it was kinda better than that because it was the trope of him being stronger than he realized but without the putting him in mortal danger as a training tactic.
As someone pointed out in the comment section, Frieren told Stark to engage the dragon closely for 30 seconds to give her an opening. From the first time Stark makes contact with the dragon to the moment it is dead , only 30 seconds have passed in between. She gave him a time limit and he did the job within it . If not , Frieren or Fern would've certainly helped . I'm glad that Frieren usually doesn't just shove her students into the face of mortal danger to see their limit . She did the same thing with Fern and Qubal ; told Fern to give it her all to defend , it took a lot of effort but Frieren took down Qubal in a moment. Fern got a huge experience with being in mortal danger .

The camera angles are insane. Of course the animation is top notch as well. I'm so glad I trusted the people that told me this anime is good and stuck through the slow burn.
I guess the relatively slow pace is not for everyone then. Personally I loved every single scene, there was not a single moment I didn't enjoy. I actually enjoyed it so much that I couldn't binge watch it like usual, at many points I only watched one episode a day to fully enjoy everything. Even now, long after finishing the anime, I find myself going back to watch parts frame by frame to appreciate the animation of even the simple things.
I adore the transition between the two songs here. We start with "Fear Brought me This Far", which is very much Stark's theme, a song about courage in the face of pissing-yourself fear, but the moment Stark starts *winning* , We switch to "Zoltraak", which is usually Frieren or Fern's theme for when they're kicking ass, but Stark gets to share it this time. Both songs are absolutely incredible, but I love their use to change the emotion of the moment on a dime, from "This dragon is terrifying, but Stark is facing his fears anyway." to "Nah, ya boi's got this, he just doesn't know it yet."
i'll say you're close to the mark, But in a different way. "Fear has brought me this far" Is likely Eisen's theme, since fear brought him far enough to slay the Demon King and retire to his home to take a pupil of his own to train and instruct. The second theme is an unreleased track, which we don't know the title of yet, but It's definitely Stark's theme. matching him rising to an occasion to protect someone else.

And I could go on.
I’m ngl the way this anime inserts commentary, music and flashbacks during fights before a final blow or big moment is INSANE. By far my favorite anime I’ve watched in a while
@@teenx3769madhouse lost a lot of its talent to other studios and so the quality of shows dropped in recent times. They have produced many bangers in the past tho.
two things I like this scene, 1. they used an "accurate" dragon 4 legs and wings instead of the two legs and wings/legs that make up a wyvern. 2. in the anime I have noticed that while elves, drawves, and demons are stronger than humans, humans procreated far faster, and progress far faster than any of the other races, allowing for prodigies to be born like fern, stark and flamma(probably spelled her name wrong sorry). I kind of like this idea because it perfectly sums up the idea of the humans hero/champion that will take on unimaginable challenges the likes no one else could
This moment is so wholesome and emotive that I think I watched it too many times. The moment Frieren smiles proudly when she realises what Eisen meant when he told her about Stark is priceless. This anime is beyond other animes. Thank you so much Fred for recommending me this piece of art.
I love the little details in this. The dragons pupils dilate right before stark lands his final strike. *For those who don't know that's what happens right after dying* just the force from his strike. It shows just how strong he truly is.
This is why Fern was upset when Stark put his hand on her shoulder. He's so strong he made Eisen hit him by reflex. For someone who is, by comparison, essentially a twig, it would make sense that Stark's grip would be scary as hell. Poor boy didn't have any bad intentions but his power is legitimately intimidating.
Just tell me one thing this anime lacking ost, opening, animation, wholesome, action, drama, romance, fantasy, storyline, background score everything is just top notch truly a masterpiece 🥺
It's amusing how Stark and Fern both consider themselves weak-to-average, but they just trained with absolute monsters from the Hero's party who defy all logic.
Just a simple animation in a wholesome fantasy slice of life anime. No really, this is such a polished show. Absolutely gorgeous. I'm a jjk fan but this truly deserves aoty
Unfortunately Demon Slayer also has a season this year, so it will take many awards away because its so popular. I'm not hating, I like the anime, but I don't think its animation is as impressive as Frieren or JJK because those don't rely as heavily on 3D and aftereffects.
Which is why Eisen is so afraid of his strength. Stark is so strong he can one-shot a dragon and not _realize_ he one-shotted a dragon. That kind of strength can turn bad if the one wielding it doesn't realize the damage they can do.
1:15 Love the animation. Seeing Stark's hair and clothing whip in all directions from a snoricam as the dragon tries to shake him off was an excellent decision.
sends literal shivers in my body, love the music, love the scene, and the idea of a human like stark taking on a whole literal dragon is just amazing... thank you for the clip!
I still can't really explain it, but fights like these are why I love the action in Frieren so much more, than it other anime. even though it's "fast" and powerful, it feels so calm to watch it. When you watch other shonen anime like dragonball or one piece or maybe newer stuff like Demon Slayer, it always feels so hectic and fast, like you can't even follow what is happening, the exact opposite feeling I have with Frieren. The fight between Fern und Lügner is my favourite example, but this one is a good example too. Don't get me wrong, fights like One Pice or Dragonball are still awesome, but this anime gave me an experience I always wished for. I wish more Anime would be like this.
ik it’s stupid, but god i love the physics of clothes in this show. it’s one of my favorite details that they get so right EVERYTIME. those few seconds he spends clinging onto the dragon. the way his jacket flutters in the intense wind makes it feel so fast. that and other scenes of stark and his jacket are perfect:
Kinda late but guys take a closer look at 1:52 . Notice how stark’s axe is stuck at the roof of the dragon’s mouth, which shouldn’t be lethal. You know what this means? He is strong enough to bring down a dragon flying in midair from a pretty high height too with just one axe swing and make it hit the ground so hard to kill it with collision damage. Stark is absolutely insane.
Looking back at the mages exam and stark here, it kind of escapes you that stark could probably pulverize every single mage in that exam without much problem.
Hard to say actually. MAYBE he could keep up wit those using more "traditional" magic through his brute strength to pulverize whatever they throw at him. But then you would have Wirbel being able to lock him down if the fight starts from too far away or Ubel's magic. We don't really know how good Ubel actually is a 1v1 combat as she only ever fought herself.
@@neerajcherukuri4052 Maybe, however, way later in the manga, spoiler: Frieren puts fren and herself at a distance, and says that stark could take them both out without much problem at that distance.
@@hajkie I've read that. But there's a 2-3 year gap between first class mage exam and the present arc. He has faced foes like Revolte and Solitar since the exam arc. Stark might be able to do that in the present arc, but not at the time of First class mage exam.
It seems that while Eisen and Stark are both "warriors" Eisen is actually really very tank focused. He can just jump off cliffs no issue and was unharmed by a dragons tail. Stark on the other hand can't do those things but his axe swing is unimaginably strong. That's why Stark terrified Eisen: he realized his student is so strong that he could actually seriously damage even Eisen who's basically immortal and has directly faced unharmed basically every kind of monster. And we see that here with Stark just cutting down a literal dragon. (they're both really fast though)
I keep coming back to this scene it’s so beautifully set up animation aside Eisen’s VA line delivery is so well done I find myself quoting it at random while walking around at work 😂
The best part about this whole fight is how bamboozled the dragon and stark both were. The dragon obv didn’t expect to die and stark thought HE himself was gonna die. Then frieren is just like “he’s dead dude”
Idk why, but this scene made me tear up a little. Maybe it’s the pure joy of the music, sakuga, and story that brought this on. Also I feel proud of Stark here.
Stark can hold onto his axe and his own bodyweight while being flung around by a dragon almost a 100 times bigger than him using only his fingers and some medieval boots
I feel bad for Eisen😢 he wanted to make Stark strong as a Warrior so badly that his body moved on its own to hurt his student😢. Can’t imagine how heart wrenching it would be. But it gave me chills when Eisen said his apprentice will become an incredible warrior.
@@kingki1953 Nothing of this I disagree with. It just isn't related to the original comment. I only said that almost all Japanese soundtracks go hard, not that their composers or music is Japanese.
That poor dragon bro. It stayed away from the town, it did it's own thing, and Frieren strolls by like "yeah I want that book" so she hires an absurdly powerful basically deity to slaughter it... Rip dragon you will be remembered.
One of the great things about Frieren is that is features so little BIG action that the budget can really be saved for it. We have this and the fight at the fight to finish exam 2. Otherwise the fights are simple and quick.
NOthing secret about it. The first thing the dragon did was trying to get distance. If it had not made its home there, the thing would have straight up flown off and never returned
I only just realized that that first strike on the dragon's front leg not only shattered it's claws, but also still had enough power to push the air and propel Stark and keep him afloat

I love how no kind of slow motion of some kind was used to display build up of something, which made it last exactly 30 sec, which was Frieren's instruction to Stark. The fluidity of the fight was next level
The series doesn’t give a damn about building up tension or anything…
@@Apfelkind4000if it works it works

They all do their part. Frieren was not strong as she is today compare before the journey to the demon king. @@luminaire4946
@@luminaire4946Frieren has said if any one of them died during the fight they would have lost. Also theres a lot of foreshadowing that there was more to that fight than we're lead to believe, like the demons knew they were gonna lose.

@@luminaire4946 The hero sword wasn't a test of strength, it was most likely enchanted to be pulled out by it's rightful owner or a good theory that I saw is that the sword was designed to never be pulled out, you don't need to be the stereotypical "chosen one" to be a hero, it's in your heart to be one.
He needs resolve!
You say it
As someone pointed out in the comment section, Frieren told Stark to engage the dragon closely for 30 seconds to give her an opening.
Same. Seeing frieren just standing still after stark "pinned" the dragon made me panicked for him 😂

What’s crazy is stark hits the dragon and on impact he sends himself flying. That just goes to show how much raw power he has
I adore the transition between the two songs here.
I return to announce the soundtrack has released yesterday.
The second track after "Fear has Brought me This Far" Is titled "Dragon Smasher".

Simply the top of the top animators. It's funny that in 2022, there was this discussion about Chainsaw Man vs. Bocchi the Rock. Now it's 2023, and we have the director of Bocchi the Rock (Keiichirou Saitou) working with the action director of Chainsaw Man (Tatsuya Yoshihara), the Bocchi the Rock's chief animation director (Kerorira) and assistant director (Yuusuke Yamamoto), the Chainsaw Man's Opening director (Shingo Yamashita), another two episode directors of Chainsaw Man (Shun Enokido and Hironori Tanaka/TNK), and key animators from Chainsaw Man (Takahito Sakazume, K1ro/Keiichiro Watanabe, Yen_BM/Chris, Kouki Fujimoto, Ayaka Tsuji and Toru Iwazawa who's the action director of Frieren) and Bocchi the Rock (Toshiyuki Satou). two things I like this scene,
1. they used an "accurate" dragon 4 legs and wings instead of the two legs and wings/legs that make up a wyvern.
2. in the anime I have noticed that while elves, drawves, and demons are stronger than humans, humans procreated far faster, and progress far faster than any of the other races, allowing for prodigies to be born like fern, stark and flamma(probably spelled her name wrong sorry). I kind of like this idea because it perfectly sums up the idea of the humans hero/champion that will take on unimaginable challenges the likes no one else could
Bruh, that's why Hemmel, Heiter, Fern, and Stark was very strong because they progress faster than any long living being
@@kingki1953 im glad you also realized, and to think they will only get stronger from here this really is the age of humans
Remember folks, the dragon didn't even want to fight Stark. But it did because of how terrified it was of his strength.
I like how Frieren knew Stark was very powerful and just stands with a little smile when she sees him in action.
This moment is so wholesome and emotive that I think I watched it too many times. The moment Frieren smiles proudly when she realises what Eisen meant when
he told her about Stark is priceless.
Madhouse, why in the world did you go so hard on this scene?!?
"It's what Himmel would have done."
The detail of the dragons fire as starts from it's chest until it actually shoots is such a nice touch
Just tell me one thing this anime lacking ost, opening, animation, wholesome, action, drama, romance, fantasy, storyline, background score everything is just top notch truly a masterpiece 🥺

1:16 looks so freaking cinematic. Frieren is upto a bunch of awards this year.
Unfortunately Demon Slayer also has a season this year, so it will take many awards away because its so popular. I'm not hating, I like the anime, but I don't think its animation is as impressive as Frieren or JJK because those don't rely as heavily on 3D and aftereffects.

Funny how stark dint realize he killed the dragon until freiren says its already dead.
Which is why Eisen is so afraid of his strength. Stark is so strong he can one-shot a dragon and not _realize_ he one-shotted a dragon. That kind of strength can turn bad if the one wielding it doesn't realize the damage they can do.

1:15 Love the animation. Seeing Stark's hair and clothing whip in all directions from a snoricam as the dragon tries to shake him off was an excellent decision.
i liked that this clip is not just flashy and messy like most of animation nowadays do, this clip was very smooth and clean
I love this show. It’s usually this bitter sweet take about finding connections and reflecting on your last but then it has epic fights like this
sends literal shivers in my body, love the music, love the scene, and the idea of a human like stark taking on a whole literal dragon is just amazing... thank you for the clip!
Just waiting for season 2 man. This series just keeps getting better and better
It's calm and collected, Vs high energy power fantasy
an Animation, editing, music.. This sequence is just art itself... an incredible art.
This was the scene I knew this show was an instant classic.
Damn, most of us realized it in ep 1
ik it’s stupid, but god i love the physics of clothes in this show. it’s one of my favorite details that they get so right EVERYTIME. those few seconds he spends clinging onto the dragon. the way his jacket flutters in the intense wind makes it feel so fast. that and other scenes of stark and his jacket are perfect:
I don't think I have ever seen a dragon fight animated and choreographed quite like this
Fern experienced Starks soft tender touch and that almost broke her shoulder.
i loved how stark holding his axe on neck while charging. the physics on this anime is working.
Stark not realizing his strength is the biggest point of humility I've seen from any character. He is a monster.
Imagine if Stark also got a copy in the dungeon. It will be an instant kill if a mage face him in the corner.
If he gets close, he could probably kill all human mage participants. Not Frieren and the proctors.
@@neerajcherukuri4052 Maybe, however, way later in the manga, spoiler:
Frieren puts fren and herself at a distance, and says that stark could take them both out without much problem at that distance.
I keep coming back to this scene it’s so beautifully set up animation aside
Eisen’s VA line delivery is so well done I find myself quoting it at random while walking around at work 😂
The best part about this whole fight is how bamboozled the dragon and stark both were. The dragon obv didn’t expect to die and stark thought HE himself was gonna die. Then frieren is just like “he’s dead dude”
The dragon knew he'd die if he faced Stark , why did you think the Dragon stomped the rampage on the village as soon it saw Stark?
