mae planned everything from the very beginning, he lured proximus people to the eagle clan because she knows their ability to climb higher than usual, she even saw it when noah climb to get the egg on a higher place, she even put her scent on noah cloth so she can get the clan raided and conquered by proximus people, she needed their ability so she can reach the hidden entrance of the vault.
When I explain to my girlfriend about these movies everything is movie accurate, except when I try to ground my timeline by referring to Rise as the James Franco one.
The writing for the movie was unexpectedly very emotionally complex and mature, which I think has gone over a lot of viewer's heads. Mae and Noa are written as contrasts in dealing with trauma and anger. Mae is struggling to overcome her trauma, from Proximus' brutality, which affects her trust of all apes. She struggles to do what is morally sound, being impulsive due to her grief, pain, and loneliness. Noa grows and moves through his trauma and anger, in which community and family benefit him greatly in this respect - He chooses trust and not harm against those who haven't harmed him. The movie is teaching us pain begets pain (Mae), but trust and follow-through heals pain (Noa). The real enemy is unhealed trauma and what that brings. Mae's outward actions are perfect example of a person with internal conflict and unchecked feelings. Really great writing.
Or its just filler to set up the big story of the humans fighting back using nuclear weapons to destory the planet .thts all i saw of this movie nice set up. 2 next movies wil end with nuclear end of the world with the 3 last movies wil be the austronaunts coming back thkusand year later
It’s a shame because as a fan, I enjoyed kingdom. But I feel like casual fans won’t enjoy it as much because of how slow this felt. Great video as always.
Thank you was thinking the same thing. The old dude with him was a history buff and was telling him everything humans did. He knew what they were capable of. And Mae embodies that by caring about the mission above everything. We dont know what would happen if humans regained speech and everything else but it could be a war to return to how it was or they'd figure out how to live together. It's tough to imagine it lol.
As was Dr. Zaius in the original film. In the second film it is made clear that the humans' feeding on ape crops has brought the ape civilization to the brink of starvation.
That's what I love about the new movies. Besides Rise, which had villains who were kind of flat and objectively just evil, the movies show that all the "villains" had their (mostly reasonable) motivations behind their actions. Even though they're the "bad guys" from the POV of the protagonists, we still get a glimpse into why they're doing what they do. It's about humanity and how it's not "good" or "bad."
@@jeremyjj3866 thats the thing, Mae wasnt trying to bring back speech cause it already exists, she lied to Noa so he wouldn't suspect it much, rather it ended up being a sat com key so her base could contact another military base lol and a nod to the original, the base they contacted was where Taylor came from
I loved this continuation/installment. Raka was the best character. I loved Noah; i loved how they showed his fear when a problem arrise yet he still pushed foward.
Mae was an absolute Villain in the film. She planted the scent to destroy the Eagle village on purpose. She attempted to commit genocide by flooding the apes good or bad. Then she was about to shoot him in the end only to stop when he offered her the necklace. She was the reason his village was obliterated and why his father died. Humans once again are proven to the the problem. Proximo for the most part wanted to protect his Kingdom. He had nothing against humans as he was housing one to entertain and educate him. I didn't see him as a villain, he was originally chasing down the HUMAN spies that led his trackers to the eagle village. AKA how the movie begins is with Mae luring the main character to take her bloodied cloths so his scouts would discover them.
Bro was a villain even if he had nothing "against" humans he treated the other apes very bad and was willing to dispose of them like they had little to no value. If that doesn't scream villain then idk what does. They really wanted us to feel like humans are still the enemy and the problem and it's obvious that it's what they're building up to.
I saw the movie last night and absolutely loved it. I've always been a fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise and these new movies give so much to it! I am seriously dumbfounded with how well they have done this series so far. Each story has been different. They all connect in a logical and exciting manner.
You fan of planet of apes and did not realise what noah thought when he saw telescope????? He saw jupiter and knew it was real , and he knew apes were kept in zoo locked by humans was real too as he saw in the books in vault , so now Noah just realized humans are greatest threat to apes
Something else I think worth noting. I found it to be important as you. Mentioned at the end, when may accepts the necklace which symbolizes her new way of thinking, but also something else that you may have not noticed is that when she accepted the necklace, she grabbed it. Or held onto it with both hands, meaning that she had to put the gun away. So that means that she think, at that moment, head put away her distrust in Apes. N made the decision that she was ready to be able to trust the Apes. She could have easily grabbed that necklace with one hand and still hold the gun. But she chose to hold it with both hands. Meaning she decided to put her guard down for the first time which really shows her new change of heart best. I think. I think this could be setting us up for the original movies. Timeline of the end of part 5, where part 5 was told as a story from an ape in the year 2600 and something with Apes and humans living side by side in peace. apes and surface humans both ful clothed and speaking So it seems in the original timeline, humans lose their ability to speak and become of lower order sometime. After that story is told at the end of part 5, whereas in this latest movies we lose the ability to speak immediately after So either some humans regain that ability or It could just be two different versions.We'll have to see
I thought the coolest part was how the movie introduced the doll from the first movie. The exact same doll with the exact same sound as in that cave from the first movie is most definitely that bunker in this latest movie.Since both take place on the beach, it's definitely gotta be the same place, which means kingdom takes place in future new york
I think it's also important to point out with this movie that the writers seemed to have learned a valuable lesson from Star wars. Noah was really just some random guy. Yes, his father was the leader of their tribe. But at the end of the day, he was really just another member of the tribe himself. He wasn't necessarily anyone special. All throughout the movie I kept expecting them to somehow make Noah a descendant of Caesar. And I was thrilled by the end when they didn't.
father wasnt the leader of the tribe even, he was the master of the birds, a very high role but not the leader, we see the elder of the tribe having his necklace pulled off in the attack scene before they kill Noah's dad.
I think they imply Noah is related to Caesar either literally or symbolically by making the two characters look very similar. No way that wasn’t intentional.
The aspect of Noa’s clan utilizing eagles is actually further insight of how they can and would coexist with “lesser beings,” such as humans, as both creatures can benefit from each other and thrive as a result…😉
Wouldn’t really happen tho since at the end Noah just loses trust in humans seeing how mae was willing to kill the eagle clan just to make sure the apes never flourish technology wise.he also gets angry looking in the telescope seeing the satellites activate knowing it was mae who gave them the “book”

Yo they used the eagles for hunting, including fishing and mid sized land prey. They can also keep vermin from the area. Human settlements have been using Falconry for a while
@@ThoughtAbout-vm8sv the movie opens with scenes of the eagles being sent for fish, apes in eagle clan receiving & distributing the fish, as well as Noa fixing a fish hanging rack, and encountering Mae in the smokehouse, which is used to smoke & preserve large amounts of fish. the eagles aren’t just a large part of their culture, but seemingly an instrumental piece of their ability to survive.
Ape villains (Koba and Proximus Ceasar) was right in ensuring the best future possible for the apes. However, their ways went against the morality and principles of their Great Founder, Ceasar. So far, I like the ending. Hoping Rakka survived and show again in the next movie. The work continues.
I was really hoping that Noah would confront Proximus about the "Law of Ceasar" and tell the others about it. And wish they would have used the phrase from the original series that I loved so much as a kid, "Ape shall not kill ape!"
So I think the astronauts are coming back too and I think they told us this in the movie…hear me out. When the main ape, Noa explained to Raka later on what he saw in the telescope he says something like “a tunnel swallowing light” at first I thought he was talking about the telescope itself and he could’ve been but what if he saw a black hole or wormhole? The same one that would soon bring those astronauts to that time.
I think Icarus from rise that was meant to land on Mars ended up in that worm hole,ended up colonizing another planet and found a way back 300 years later.i also have a feeling Mae found her way back first from that colony to scope earth out,and being told where the location of the bunker was. It would explain why she wears quite futuristic clothes and why seemingly she isn't affected at all by the airborne virus,like she's generationally immune to it yet the settlers in the base great her in respirators.
I think he saw a space station or satellite which would explain swallowing light since it would be the only device with light in space besides stars I think at the end he saw the satellites activate which is why he looked angry knowing that he couldn’t trust mae.Just my theory tho
The telescope was dirty , he couldn’t see anything and remember right when he was going to wipe it clear , nova came in I think he just was just amazed by the telescope BUT the telescope will be used to see the astronauts crash land that nova was speaking to in the end , if u look at the map on the radar u can see something rotating around the earth hint hint a space ship
i like how the movie in the end gave us a slight hint of the dynamics of the groups of humans that now exist in this world, 1. The people underground that never had contact with the virus at all (the woman in the hazmat suit at the end) 2. People like mae that have contracted the virus and is immune to the silencing of speech from the virus 3. the people that didnt die of the virus, but are not immune to the side effects of the virus that makes them silent, and unintelligent i mean thinking about it im really looking forward to what they do with this, its an interesting plot point having even the humans not being able to coexist with each other
I throughly enjoyed this movie. It's pace, a slow burn if you will, felt right. It endeared us to Noa, just a young ape trying to do the best he could to make his family proud... It wasn't full of unnecessary over the top action scene either.
I thought Noa got a glimpse of Saturn in the telescope because that’s the planet he focused on in the human facility’s classroom. Also I have to say I was waiting for some sort of flood event seeing as the main characters name was Noa. There does seem to be a religious element to the characters. Caesar being the law giver (Moses) leading his people to freedom, and Noa saving the righteous from the flood. Naming the next main character Jesus would be a bit too on the nose I would think though. Haha
Two things 1. In the movie when Noa is talking to Raka the next day, he mentions how he saw a “light eating tunnel”, and explained Mae had the same reaction as Noa. 2. I’m pretty sure in the original movies (68) they explained that they were 2000* years in the future

Why was Mae also surprised at what she saw in the telescope. Remember, Mae at that point is thought to be feral - yet we now know she's not. So she saw something that amazed even her.
She saw a black hole in the proximity of earth. Noa described it as "a tunnel that eats light". I believe it'll tie to the time travel/time warp shenanigans of the old PoTA movies

Any one of us can be amazed looking through a telescope properly focused on something eg the moon. All the scene demonstrated was the similarity in intelligence between the two species and Noah recognising that fact.
@@UFO_computers That's what they want you to think at first, when you believe Mae is feral. But then, shortly after we learn that Mae is not feral and knows more than Noa knows about the world. So whatever Mae and Noa saw, that it cut off right at the end, must have been something.

Aside from continuing the warped legacy of Caesar, Proximus adopted the name Caesar in part also to his heavy interest in Roman history where he saw himself as his generation's Caesar ruling over his new kingdom.
That connection may be a nod to how apes like Proximus are able to adopt human ideas and human history into their own cruel structure of power. Him adopting the title of Caesar may be coincidental to the series.
Another little nod to the original, when the apes are in the vault, one of them picks up a doll just like the original one and uses the exact some sound effect.
When she was delivering the code thing at the end, I half expected it to pan up to a vew of a golden nuclear bomb, implying they would eventually become the underground humans from Beneath lol.
I think a part of the movie that was overlooked was that of Proximus. He ruled on what he believed was to be Caesars way, but in reality he was obsessed with ancient Roman literature which spews the ideology of Julius Caesar. Hence his monarchy over the apes
Proximus didn't believe in Caesar's teachings...he didn't know about them. All he knew was the fact that Caesar was the ultimate OG ape...so he manipulated that memory for his own benefit. Proximus' only concern was his own power. He would have sacrificed every ape life to open those doors if he had to. That is as far from Caesar as you can hope to get.
One thing that I noticed was how Noah is one of the smartest apes on the planet , so far. He repaired the stun rod without ever having studied it before. He has seen books and technology in detail including the telescope. He has seen the heavens and may have seen a space station. He wants the best for his people and seems to understand that they do not truly know everything Caesar preached, so apes need to become more advanced in order to survive and cannot completely trust anyone, otherwise they will risk destruction. I don’t want the series to be a complete recycle of the past. I would like to find out that the apes find a way to release the waters in the silo and understand the technology to become extremely intelligent equal to and in some ways exceeding present day mankind. People like May are selfish and want the entire planet for themselves, but something needs to happen to force them to come together or perish! Maybe the secret to human survival resides in humans and apes being exposed to each other’s bodies and adjusting?
Finally sat down and watched the new film and I LOVED it, I can not wait for more!!! Great breakdown, ty! I saw it on a plane so I totally missed the post credits Easter egg. Gonna go back and rewatch on Hulu ❤
I found it had some Biblical connections as well. Caesar was like a Moses type character who left laws that were perserved by Raka and Noa is a potential Christ like figure to fulfill those laws. Also his name is Noa and there's a giant flood scene. There's also a classic Joseph Campbell crossing the threshold scene which refelcts the chase scene from the original movie.
also in the old trilogy the apes are scared of water. The was depicted by how apes were killed by breaking of the flood gates and when Raka almost drowned.

I thought it was supposed to be a Noah's ark type allusion to the flood. The main character was named Noah and after the flood you have a hawk instead of a dove.

@@slewone4905people might say she is the "villain" but if she doesn't flood the bunker they were going to get the weapons and the eagle tribe was going to still be slaved by proximus. He might not see it that way because many of his people died but Caesar wanted to have a kingdom and he would've been an even biggest tyrant.
I don't know bout you,,,, but I'm always rooting for the human race in this movies series so she was a hero to me. I thought Woody Harrleson was a hero in the previous one😮Sadly he died at the end!

I feel like this series is now stealing the spot in our hearts and minds that was previously reserved for all things Star Wars. Loved this movie and can't wait re-watch the whole series at the earliest opportunity!

I used Maurice to help teach people sign language. Now we got several people who know how to call people stupid. The thing is my favorite scene is when Caesar told Apes are strong together to Maurice, Maurice was already smart. he was able to communicate with Maurice , even though Maurice was not altered yet.
Fun little Easter Egg: the woman in the hazmat suit is played by Dichen Lachman, who was also in the television series The Last Ship, which was also about a man made plague that wiped out the majority of humanity.

yeah, that would never happen, because we got these movies to remind us never to engineer a deadly disease. You know, like genetically altering a coronavirus, which we never ever been successful in making a vaccine of, before, or maybe not pay Chinese to engineer the Avian flu virus, even after the coronavirus fiasco. Nice video; but you missed a small, albeit important detail from the 1968 movie. In that movie, Cornelius mentions to Taylor that human's are not allowed to speak, only apes can speak. So actually, humans in the original films lost their ability to speak because they were brutalized and banned from speaking by the apes over generations, eventually losing their speech. A much crueler way the apes dealt with the humans in the original movies...
They use the eagles for fishing. We see eagles catch fish, apes retrieve fish from eagles, we even see their smoke house where they cook the fish. May even steals one. Most apes aren’t buoyant, they sink immediately. Which is why the water is so dangerous. Eagles are their fishing poles
This movie was everything I wanted it to be! As a longtime planet of the apes fan, there was so much to appreciate and I loved all the call backs and foreshadowing for what’s to come. I haven’t felt this much excitement walking out of a theater since Endgame!
The one thing you didn't touch on was Mae's origin. If she was born underground, how is she immune to the virus on the surface? Or was she born on the surface, but happened to be genetically immune to the virus and the mutated virus? Then the underground humans somehow contacted her and recruited her?
Is the virus still airborne after 300 years ? It was airborne during the initial outbreak and the survivors on the surface were just immune to it and passed the immunity on to their children. Idk if its still airborne now, the humans alive now just carry it from their ancestors so they arent breathing it in.
There are a number of humans who are genetically immune such as Mae and the old guy that helped Proximus. She lived with other humans that were immune and most likely were on the same mission. But they were killed by Proximus and he took their map of the vault. She seems to be incredibly educated as she knew how every human thing worked but also knew how to live and blend in the wild
Honestly though this was the best prequel in the franchise behind "dawn of the planet of the apes " was solid beautiful film i found noah to be an interesting character pacing was great as the story wise it had a satisfying conclusion, and pretty intriguing set up for next.

Really appreciated this explanation. I have been on the 50 year APES viewing journey, and never have been confused and dumbfounded until l saw Kingdom last night, and that ending that seemed to come out of left field. You have explained a lot - not all - but enough to keep it on track. I was especially confused by the varied groups of humans who seem to be at different stages of evolution. I do think overall though, that Kingdom was an amazing film that has viewers using their brains in ways not typical of summer blockbusters. I eagerly await the next chapter, and l will seek out more of your videos!

That isn’t true. Even the director stated that “300 years in the future” isn’t true. It’s just many generations later. There hasn’t been anything specific showing the time that this movie takes place in.
I just finished kingdom and I loved it, i didn’t think I was gonna like it so much because of no Cesar and no other apes from the old movies but the new villains were scary and that cgi is on another level omg
Spoilers: I hated Mae all throughout the later half of the movie and wanted Proximus to get the vault. The apes are gonna be eradicated noe thabks to her, and she already killed lots of apes flooding the vault.
He actually fought and used more of his intelegence than fists. At the end of th day he still did what he came to do and save his clan. But he was never meant to be a fighter but was very courageous. That's what I liked about him.

I think William Macy's character was their version of Taylor. They never explained where he came from. If he was from the underground bases, "Nova" would've known. His defeatist demeanor matches well with Taylor's cynical one. In the end they both gave up in humanity. That being, Nova was right to take him out... he would've either volunteeringly told, or they would've tortured it out of him. A shell of the man he was.

I always hoped this reboot franchise would take Beneath seriously and Kingdom did. As soon as Nao entered the tunnel and finally ended up in the underground bunker I anticipated this Serling-type ending. Yes , humans cannot be human without their weaponry, their technolgy, their monoopuolzation of violence and the means of mass destruction. The gun Mae carries is her human appendage

In the movie, wheb Noah uses the telescope he noticed a tube that swallows light in space. I believe he was referring to a black hole in which the astronauts that left three hundred years ago will return from.
The water level at the vault bugged me... on one side of the boat there is a beach as seen when they are brought in. On the other side of the boat, they need a several meters tall wall to hold the water. Also inside the vault, once the water rush in you can see them climb 4+ floors up, and the water is still rising. In one of the scenes the water is even coming from above them, after they have climbed. The water would not go above the natural sea level. So maybe a floor or two max based on the height of their sea wall.

During the conversation between Noah and Raka regarding Mae's reaction, looking into the telescope eyepiece, there was mention of a black hole. Raka seemed to have heard it from Noah describing what he had seen earlier. Time travel is definitely in our future films. Also, where (or when) were the people who responded to the distress call into space? They stated, "Fort Wayne". 📡📡📡📡
not really a twist, Proximus reveals she was working with other people, and she also got a sat com key rather than something that could bring back speech. but yes, she was sorta a vault dweller, probably just someone the vault dwellers use to retrieve resources from the outside tho lol
8:08 it is shown several times throughout the early scenes of the movie that the eagles are how they gather fish. seems like an extremely vital mechanism for their clan’s survival. Noa’s 2nd encounter with Mae in the smokehouse (the building full of fish) shows that it is probably their main source of food as well since they are making efforts to preserve the fish too. they also use them for scouting it seems (when Noa’s father sent his eagle w/ Oda is one example). plus the ending when they use them for combat to defeat Proximus. i think their uses are many. if they learned to hunt, they would be very useful in that regard too.

@@SolarisSaber Every second had me fascinated and glued to the screen. The world, the characters, all of it. I obly didnt like the ending cuz tbh i really liked Proximus and didnt care too much for Mae, and hated her for all the apes she killed and almost dooming Noas clan. Now the humans are gonna try to eradicate the apes again, cuz like Noa, Proximus, and Mae herself said, theyll never accept Ape intelligence, and wont let them have anything, cuz humans want it all.
I never liked the original films, but they've done an exceptional job with the remakes/reboot. The care taken with each film is fantastic. I took a friend to see Kingdom & she hadn't seen any of the new films, but she loved it!
The telescope scene Noah told Raka that "A black worm was a light eater" I'm guessing they gonna use the blackhole like they did in "Interstellar" to bend time..
Saw the movie last night and loved it. I think each movie will do a time jump similar to the previous trilogy and set May up as our main (albeit complicated) antagonist while Noa and his clan become more educated and technologically advanced than where we left off. I also think Ryan’s correct that the telescope scene near the end of the movie shows how much Noa and the apes have yet to learn, but need to in order to “evolve”. It’ll be interesting to see where they are from an intellectual stand point in the next film.
Well, I was putting this one off knowing how bad modern films are with child like writing and the constant MESSAGE, I was really surprised and think its the first film I've watched this year which I actually enjoyed.
I think the next step in the evolution of the apes is learning to read. I think the books are key. They are not just children's books, but reading primers. Noa is smart and will learn to read. Most likely he will find Raka's books and writings. He will use these to teach the apes. As for the lack of genitals. It is possible that the genitals are there but under their fur. Many animals have non-obvious genitals.

When I explain to my girlfriend about these movies everything is movie accurate, except when I try to ground my timeline by referring to Rise as the James Franco one.
He directly funded crime when he allowed Dr Octavius to build his machine.
The writing for the movie was unexpectedly very emotionally complex and mature, which I think has gone over a lot of viewer's heads. Mae and Noa are written as contrasts in dealing with trauma and anger. Mae is struggling to overcome her trauma, from Proximus' brutality, which affects her trust of all apes. She struggles to do what is morally sound, being impulsive due to her grief, pain, and loneliness. Noa grows and moves through his trauma and anger, in which community and family benefit him greatly in this respect - He chooses trust and not harm against those who haven't harmed him. The movie is teaching us pain begets pain (Mae), but trust and follow-through heals pain (Noa). The real enemy is unhealed trauma and what that brings. Mae's outward actions are perfect example of a person with internal conflict and unchecked feelings. Really great writing.

Thank you was thinking the same thing. The old dude with him was a history buff and was telling him everything humans did. He knew what they were capable of. And Mae embodies that by caring about the mission above everything. We dont know what would happen if humans regained speech and everything else but it could be a war to return to how it was or they'd figure out how to live together. It's tough to imagine it lol.
As was Dr. Zaius in the original film. In the second film it is made clear that the humans' feeding on ape crops has brought the ape civilization to the brink of starvation.
That's what I love about the new movies. Besides Rise, which had villains who were kind of flat and objectively just evil, the movies show that all the "villains" had their (mostly reasonable) motivations behind their actions. Even though they're the "bad guys" from the POV of the protagonists, we still get a glimpse into why they're doing what they do. It's about humanity and how it's not "good" or "bad."

Humans once again are proven to the the problem. Proximo for the most part wanted to protect his Kingdom. He had nothing against humans as he was housing one to entertain and educate him. I didn't see him as a villain, he was originally chasing down the HUMAN spies that led his trackers to the eagle village. AKA how the movie begins is with Mae luring the main character to take her bloodied cloths so his scouts would discover them.

I saw the movie last night and absolutely loved it. I've always been a fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise and these new movies give so much to it! I am seriously dumbfounded with how well they have done this series so far. Each story has been different. They all connect in a logical and exciting manner.

Something else I think worth noting. I found it to be important as you. Mentioned at the end, when may accepts the necklace which symbolizes her new way of thinking, but also something else that you may have not noticed is that when she accepted the necklace, she grabbed it. Or held onto it with both hands, meaning that she had to put the gun away. So that means that she think, at that moment, head put away her distrust in Apes. N made the decision that she was ready to be able to trust the Apes. She could have easily grabbed that necklace with one hand and still hold the gun. But she chose to hold it with both hands. Meaning she decided to put her guard down for the first time which really shows her new change of heart best. I think. I think this could be setting us up for the original movies. Timeline of the end of part 5, where part 5 was told as a story from an ape in the year 2600 and something with Apes and humans living side by side in peace. apes and surface humans both ful clothed and speaking
So it seems in the original timeline, humans lose their ability to speak and become of lower order sometime. After that story is told at the end of part 5, whereas in this latest movies we lose the ability to speak immediately after

I think it's also important to point out with this movie that the writers seemed to have learned a valuable lesson from Star wars. Noah was really just some random guy. Yes, his father was the leader of their tribe. But at the end of the day, he was really just another member of the tribe himself. He wasn't necessarily anyone special. All throughout the movie I kept expecting them to somehow make Noah a descendant of Caesar. And I was thrilled by the end when they didn't.
father wasnt the leader of the tribe even, he was the master of the birds, a very high role but not the leader, we see the elder of the tribe having his necklace pulled off in the attack scene before they kill Noah's dad.

the eagles aren’t just a large part of their culture, but seemingly an instrumental piece of their ability to survive.
Ape villains (Koba and Proximus Ceasar) was right in ensuring the best future possible for the apes. However, their ways went against the morality and principles of their Great Founder, Ceasar. So far, I like the ending. Hoping Rakka survived and show again in the next movie. The work continues.

So I think the astronauts are coming back too and I think they told us this in the movie…hear me out. When the main ape, Noa explained to Raka later on what he saw in the telescope he says something like “a tunnel swallowing light” at first I thought he was talking about the telescope itself and he could’ve been but what if he saw a black hole or wormhole? The same one that would soon bring those astronauts to that time.
I think Icarus from rise that was meant to land on Mars ended up in that worm hole,ended up colonizing another planet and found a way back 300 years later.i also have a feeling Mae found her way back first from that colony to scope earth out,and being told where the location of the bunker was.
It would explain why she wears quite futuristic clothes and why seemingly she isn't affected at all by the airborne virus,like she's generationally immune to it yet the settlers in the base great her in respirators.

I throughly enjoyed this movie. It's pace, a slow burn if you will, felt right. It endeared us to Noa, just a young ape trying to do the best he could to make his family proud... It wasn't full of unnecessary over the top action scene either.

Also I have to say I was waiting for some sort of flood event seeing as the main characters name was Noa. There does seem to be a religious element to the characters. Caesar being the law giver (Moses) leading his people to freedom, and Noa saving the righteous from the flood. I think a part of the movie that was overlooked was that of Proximus. He ruled on what he believed was to be
Caesars way, but in reality he was obsessed with ancient Roman literature which spews the ideology of Julius Caesar. Hence his monarchy over the apes
Proximus didn't believe in Caesar's teachings...he didn't know about them.
All he knew was the fact that Caesar was the ultimate OG ape...so he manipulated that memory for his own benefit.
Proximus' only concern was his own power.
He would have sacrificed every ape life to open those doors if he had to.
That is as far from Caesar as you can hope to get.
One thing that I noticed was how Noah is one of the smartest apes on the planet , so far. He repaired the stun rod without ever having studied it before. He has seen books and technology in detail including the telescope. He has seen the heavens and may have seen a space station. He wants the best for his people and seems to understand that they do not truly know everything Caesar preached, so apes need to become more advanced in order to survive and cannot completely trust anyone, otherwise they will risk destruction. I don’t want the series to be a complete recycle of the past. I would like to find out that the apes find a way to release the waters in the silo and understand the technology to become extremely intelligent equal to and in some ways exceeding present day mankind. People like May are selfish and want the entire planet for themselves, but something needs to happen to force them to come together or perish! Maybe the secret to human survival resides in humans and apes being exposed to each other’s bodies and adjusting?
Finally sat down and watched the new film and I LOVED it, I can not wait for more!!! Great breakdown, ty! I saw it on a plane so I totally missed the post credits Easter egg. Gonna go back and rewatch on Hulu ❤
I found it had some Biblical connections as well. Caesar was like a Moses type character who left laws that were perserved by Raka and Noa is a potential Christ like figure to fulfill those laws. Also his name is Noa and there's a giant flood scene. There's also a classic Joseph Campbell crossing the threshold scene which refelcts the chase scene from the original movie.
also in the old trilogy the apes are scared of water. The was depicted by how apes were killed by breaking of the flood gates and when Raka almost drowned.
This is one of movie mistakes - apes cannot swim. I know - an evolution - but it is just 300 years. People needed thousands od years.

Nice video; but you missed a small, albeit important detail from the 1968 movie. In that movie, Cornelius mentions to Taylor that human's are not allowed to speak, only apes can speak. So actually, humans in the original films lost their ability to speak because they were brutalized and banned from speaking by the apes over generations, eventually losing their speech. A much crueler way the apes dealt with the humans in the original movies...

They use the eagles for fishing. We see eagles catch fish, apes retrieve fish from eagles, we even see their smoke house where they cook the fish. May even steals one. Most apes aren’t buoyant, they sink immediately. Which is why the water is so dangerous. Eagles are their fishing poles

This movie was everything I wanted it to be! As a longtime planet of the apes fan, there was so much to appreciate and I loved all the call backs and foreshadowing for what’s to come. I haven’t felt this much excitement walking out of a theater since Endgame!

The one thing you didn't touch on was Mae's origin. If she was born underground, how is she immune to the virus on the surface? Or was she born on the surface, but happened to be genetically immune to the virus and the mutated virus? Then the underground humans somehow contacted her and recruited her?
Is the virus still airborne after 300 years ? It was airborne during the initial outbreak and the survivors on the surface were just immune to it and passed the immunity on to their children. Idk if its still airborne now, the humans alive now just carry it from their ancestors so they arent breathing it in.

There are a number of humans who are genetically immune such as Mae and the old guy that helped Proximus. She lived with other humans that were immune and most likely were on the same mission. But they were killed by Proximus and he took their map of the vault. She seems to be incredibly educated as she knew how every human thing worked but also knew how to live and blend in the wild
At the end Mae doesn’t go in the underground place where the human are because she thinks she got the virus

I think that influence helps makes these movies stand out above some other films. It's themes are rooted in such primary human values.

Honestly though this was the best prequel in the franchise behind "dawn of the planet of the apes " was solid beautiful film i found noah to be an interesting character pacing was great as the story wise it had a satisfying conclusion, and pretty intriguing set up for next.
I think it's a bit too slow and drawn out in places to be the best of the current franchise. But still really great!

Really appreciated this explanation. I have been on the 50 year APES viewing journey, and never have been confused and dumbfounded until l saw Kingdom last night, and that ending that seemed to come out of left field. You have explained a lot - not all - but enough to keep it on track. I was especially confused by the varied groups of humans who seem to be at different stages of evolution. I do think overall though, that Kingdom was an amazing film that has viewers using their brains in ways not typical of summer blockbusters. I eagerly await the next chapter, and l will seek out more of your videos!

That isn’t true. Even the director stated that “300 years in the future” isn’t true. It’s just many generations later. There hasn’t been anything specific showing the time that this movie takes place in.

I hated Mae all throughout the later half of the movie and wanted Proximus to get the vault. The apes are gonna be eradicated noe thabks to her, and she already killed lots of apes flooding the vault.
Noa got his ass beat relentlessly the whole time 💀
He actually fought and used more of his intelegence than fists. At the end of th day he still did what he came to do and save his clan. But he was never meant to be a fighter but was very courageous. That's what I liked about him.

I truly hope Raka lived. He was the best character. Would love to knock back a few with Raka.
I think William Macy's character was their version of Taylor. They never explained where he came from. If he was from the underground bases, "Nova" would've known. His defeatist demeanor matches well with Taylor's cynical one. In the end they both gave up in humanity. That being, Nova was right to take him out... he would've either volunteeringly told, or they would've tortured it out of him. A shell of the man he was.

Taylor would not have helped the apes. Clearly others know how to read and there are pocket communities that could explain where he came from.

I always hoped this reboot franchise would take Beneath seriously and Kingdom did. As soon as Nao entered the tunnel and finally ended up in the underground bunker I anticipated this Serling-type ending. Yes , humans cannot be human without their weaponry, their technolgy, their monoopuolzation of violence and the means of mass destruction. The gun Mae carries is her human appendage

In the movie, wheb Noah uses the telescope he noticed a tube that swallows light in space. I believe he was referring to a black hole in which the astronauts that left three hundred years ago will return from.
The water level at the vault bugged me... on one side of the boat there is a beach as seen when they are brought in. On the other side of the boat, they need a several meters tall wall to hold the water.
Also inside the vault, once the water rush in you can see them climb 4+ floors up, and the water is still rising. In one of the scenes the water is even coming from above them, after they have climbed. The water would not go above the natural sea level. So maybe a floor or two max based on the height of their sea wall.
Yea only the tanks would be destroyed. All the upper floors should be safe

During the conversation between Noah and Raka regarding Mae's reaction, looking into the telescope eyepiece, there was mention of a black hole. Raka seemed to have heard it from Noah describing what he had seen earlier. Time travel is definitely in our future films. Also, where (or when) were the people who responded to the distress call into space? They stated, "Fort Wayne". 📡📡📡📡

not really a twist, Proximus reveals she was working with other people, and she also got a sat com key rather than something that could bring back speech. but yes, she was sorta a vault dweller, probably just someone the vault dwellers use to retrieve resources from the outside tho lol
8:08 it is shown several times throughout the early scenes of the movie that the eagles are how they gather fish. seems like an extremely vital mechanism for their clan’s survival. Noa’s 2nd encounter with Mae in the smokehouse (the building full of fish) shows that it is probably their main source of food as well since they are making efforts to preserve the fish too.
they also use them for scouting it seems (when Noa’s father sent his eagle w/ Oda is one example). plus the ending when they use them for combat to defeat Proximus. i think their uses are many. if they learned to hunt, they would be very useful in that regard too.

I obly didnt like the ending cuz tbh i really liked Proximus and didnt care too much for Mae, and hated her for all the apes she killed and almost dooming Noas clan. Now the humans are gonna try to eradicate the apes again, cuz like Noa, Proximus, and Mae herself said, theyll never accept Ape intelligence, and wont let them have anything, cuz humans want it all.

I never liked the original films, but they've done an exceptional job with the remakes/reboot.
The care taken with each film is fantastic. I took a friend to see Kingdom & she hadn't seen any of the new films, but she loved it!
Mae's first word of 'Noa' was reminiscent of Caesar's first word of 'No.'

The telescope scene Noah told Raka that "A black worm was a light eater" I'm guessing they gonna use the blackhole like they did in "Interstellar" to bend time..
Saw the movie last night and loved it. I think each movie will do a time jump similar to the previous trilogy and set May up as our main (albeit complicated) antagonist while Noa and his clan become more educated and technologically advanced than where we left off. I also think Ryan’s correct that the telescope scene near the end of the movie shows how much Noa and the apes have yet to learn, but need to in order to “evolve”. It’ll be interesting to see where they are from an intellectual stand point in the next film.

Well, I was putting this one off knowing how bad modern films are with child like writing and the constant MESSAGE, I was really surprised and think its the first film I've watched this year which I actually enjoyed.
I think the next step in the evolution of the apes is learning to read. I think Noah too the children' book with him to learn the meaning of the "symbols".
i was a little bit confused why the apes didn't have some kind of... cloth around their waist. why do they make photo realistic animals but no genitals? like... if I have human like apes... they could easily put some clothes on them. and why was their talking not more evolved?
Probably the virus has to mutate even further for them to develop a more advanced speech
I'm holding out for the Apes to develop tech that will help them use those eagles to cure a disease affects the apes, only for it to result in super smart eagles while killing the apes. Resulting in....PLANET OF THE BIRDS and that scene where the lead eagle falls to his knees in front of the destroyed bird bath statue an screaming about it blowing up

I think the books are key. They are not just children's books, but reading primers. Noa is smart and will learn to read. Most likely he will find Raka's books and writings. He will use these to teach the apes.
As for the lack of genitals. It is possible that the genitals are there but under their fur. Many animals have non-obvious genitals.
This is a bit of a plot hole because Maurice was teaching apes to read back in DAWN
