I am related to the Hammes of Coleman and northeast Wisconsin. Hammes is pronounced "ha' miss". F.X. Hammes is Frank X. Hammes. He is a brother to my great-grandmother Margaret (Hammes) Biebel. Frank X. Hammes was Sheriff of Green Bay for two years and was also active in area politics, having served as chairman of the board of supervisor of Preble (next to Green Bay). Around 1889 he moved to Coleman, and at that time Coleman was nothing more than a water station for the railroad. Frank X. Hammes practically built the entire town of Coleman with his own efforts. He was engaged in the hotel, restaurant and lumbering business in Coleman, operated several saw mills and he served as town supervisor. He also helped to organize and became the first president of the Coleman State Bank.
Nobody does things your unique way. You approach the towns with a broad and open mind, which is your hallmark.
Those are the kind of places I look for to stop and get ice cream or get something to eat. I really like your videos keep them coming please.
Love you vids and I must say as a lifelong Chicagoan you are to me the quintessential wisconsinite!
Adam the Woo mentioned your channel and I’m glad he did. I live in a small non-touristy town in Oregon. I think you and I are going to get along real well.❤
My husband's dad was a Lutheran minister who always took churches in very small WI towns. Hubby has lived in Pulaski, Hewitt, Bonduel, Muscoda, and Foster plus some towns of larger population. We love small towns, and enjoy your presentations.
Loved the videos, I grew up in Coleman. My family moved up there when I was 3, I moved away when I was in my late 30's. It has changed a lot. The library used to be a bowling alley and where the bank is, there was a small motel.
Love Coleman and the surrounding towns❤️it's great living in a community of people who help each other out!😊
I'm a small town girl at heart. It bugs me when they call a city a small town. I would rather stay in and visit a small town any time. I just discovered your videos and have been enjoying them. I would like to be a tourist in small town Wisconsin🎉😂
The spanish looking house is my old band teachers house. The stationhouse was once called Christophers. Funny fact....My family owned over half of coleman and sold it. Skarda development would not be there if my family still owned it. The last park you went to is also dedicated to the veterans.
Love you girl! You have that nice hippie vibe-in a good way!
They were excellent times. My daughter was about 7 and we traveled many, many miles. Good times for sure. That was 47 years ago, holy cow!!!
Time flies by so fast, doesn’t it!
Loved the video. Marty is always an upgrade, but work is work.
As a matter of fact I have to run to a small job and I don't have time to leave a message.
I'll try to get back early enough to post a feedback before going to bed.
I like the idea of insulating garages. Especially in that country.
Well, I wish I had time to post now but I gotta go. work, work, work.
I just realised, I could have used this time to write something.
I feel like Homer Simpson. DOOH!
Hahaha no worries 😉 have fun at work!
Wow! I'm so amazed about how clean Coleman is! I would love to ride my bike through it someday.
Agree about the speed limit for kids. I went to school in Arkansaw Wisconsin and graduated in 82. Just recently I went on a street I had never been on
Wisconsin should hire you as their Wisconsin True Representative. New Mexico True has a paid guy doing the same stuff as you but just at all the interesting touristy places in New Mexico. And of course , he has a whole camera crew. You are just as good or better in your presentation and knowledge of each town you go to. BTW, where do you go for your history research? Do you just do it via Internet? Do you find the information for each city via their library website? Asking for a friend 🤓
Does Wisconsin even have a True Travel Representative? I didn’t even know there was such a thing.
@@SightseeingSally There's a program called discover Wisconsin.
I hope some day you would do a video on Cecil, it's a cute little town.
I love Cecil! You’re absolutely right, I should do a video on it.
Here I am looking at your Video on Coleman. Love that you are visiting and sharing this with us. Thanks for the maps! Business 141 is busy! Old theater looks pretty nice in its heyday! Yikes, poison storage area? That home with the red tile roof is really nice! Handy map of the Village of Coleman and landmarks of the past is interesting! That memorial park is nice! That is a really nice neighborhood with the ranch houses is the type I love. Reminds me of my neighborhood! Main street has changed. Hammes Sr built moat of the buildings, definitely interesting! 1918 train wreck sounded horrible. Love ice cream shops like that in Coleman. The one you are eating looked very good!!
I agree with you but it comes down to money and things to do in a town. When I travel i look for small towns just to stop and look around and talk to the locals. Most people today don’t care about that they want something fancy and exciting to do they have a be entertained they don’t stop to smell the roses anymore.
It’s ok. That just means the rest of us can enjoy these small towns without having to fight crowds of tourists, eh?
I now live in Crossville, TN but years ago I motorcycle up in WI & southern IL. Love your content fun to see a place where life is more friendly and close to one another. You are funny and seem real. keep it up. Marty too
Thanks Anthony! I bet those were some fun motorcycle trips back in the day…
Coleman has some beautiful homes. Thank you for another outstanding video.
You’re welcome & thank you 😊
I like your travel videos because I've done a fair bit of traveling on 2-lanes on my motorcycle. You could probably improve the videos by first having a shot of the town name sign coming into town. 🙂
I like going to small towns. I like old buildings, old railroad history, and farming history so this would be a town I would visit.
Those are the best towns , usually good food too !
Exactly!!
Coleman's a nice little town, although it's lost a number of businesses since I was first visited it over 30 years ago. Since you're nearby, have you ever done Peshtigo and Peshtigo Harbor? A lot of history there.
19:33
Beautiful park! ❤️
Tons of potential plein air painting sites. Lots of beauty.
Another.....gold.....video....thanks Sally
You’re welcome Julio 😁 glad you enjoyed it!
You have a great talent for doing these videos. I always look forward for the next one.
Thank you Michael!
Station house I am pretty sure was Dog and Suds back in the 70s. That one long building you briefly show I think may have been the furniture maker Chadwick. Is the old brick school still standing? Stay safe and healthy.
Do you mean the school near the corner of Main and Business 141? If so, yes, it is. I got so focused on getting ice cream I forgot to show it.
@@SightseeingSally grasshoppers are awesome!! the green lantern in McFarland and Benedittos in Beloit have great grasshoppers.
Yum! Sounds like I need to go on a road trip 😜
@@SightseeingSally Check if they are open I have not been there since pre-plague.
Thanks for another fun video! 🐾🌻
That old looking bridge near the ending would have been nice to hear of it's history. These old structures are very much a part of history and usually can have an interesting story of any area
I didn’t have a story to share about it. 😢
I grew up the road from there. It’s a train bridge and that’s the Little Peshtigo River. I use to fish that section quite a bit in my youth.
I lived in Coleman with my 5 children! Moved to Peshtigo lived there for 10 yrs! Moved to Wyoming! Still in Wyoming! My son Lives in Oconto with wife and 2 children 😊
Oconto is a nice town. I moved here from California, and I love it.
Hey Sightseers, I wanna know. Would you visit Coleman, Wisconsin? Why or why not? 👇🏻
It looks like a wonderful place to raise a family.
Sure I would. I used to many moons ago.
I would! I’m a small town gurl! 😊
@donsbaby7132 Appreciate you, thanks so much!
Another interesting and humorous episode!
Just remember, it’s not some weird backwoods dance 😉🤣
My Best friend lives in Coleman. He's been there for many years. Very nice quiet town.
I scream for ice cream and mosquitoes too! Great video.
Hahaha thanks Jack!
Used to go through Coleman on our way up North back in the day ('60's and '70's). Would occasionally get gas at a Standard station, called Durocher's I think, that was downtown on the corner of HWY 141 and CTH "B." There was a restaurant nearby we ate at once or twice. Memories!
If I had to guess you might have stopped for a drink too once in awhile. That’s ok, I won’t tell 😉
Yaa.. l love you're videos.
Thank you 😊 Michael!!
Guess what Sally?!?....this O'l hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains has made it to the Badlands.
Yee-haa😁 Go Git-em cowboy 🤠
Lilacs do not do good in Arkansas but we had bushes lining the driveway in Minnesota
Enjoyed the video, nice to see a small town, with its slower pace. I think I see ice cream in my future. Lynn & Steve
Awesome! Thank you 😊
It's a nostalgic rural community.
Stayin tuned Sally!
🤠👍
Nice tour!
Thanks!
Great video
Looks beautiful there !
How you doing Sally ?
Doing ok here !
Hey Sally, if you need to ditch yootoobe, so be it. You'll be missed and leave a gap that can't be filled, but we all appreciate your integrity and wish you both safe travels and success.
I remember when the “Station House” was “Dog N Suds”.
Hi Sally. When are you and Marty going to post another video. Waiting with great anticipation.
I usually post weekly on Thursday evenings. If this vid is the most recent one you’ve watched, then you’re three weeks behind. Thanks!
@@SightseeingSally I watch every one wouldn't miss it. I only used this one to send a message.
@@garybryant6148 awesome! I didn't know it was you, flying under the radar weren't you lol
Thanks!
You’re very welcome 😊 and thank you!

Love this! ❤️
try sight seeing Boaz ,wi? if you blink you`ll miss seeing the town while driving through it,LOL
Drove through Boaz yesterday. Saw the sign but blinked and missed the town!
FYI Sally, that's not cream city brick--that's Lannon stone--real or fake (manufactured), I cannot say, but that's definitely NOT cream city brick. Greetings from the home of cream city brick!
Hammes is actually pronounced like hammis over here by Wabeno anyway.
There was a lady named Annie Hammes in the town of padus over here.
Thanks! Appreciate it Tom.
Sally’s sites are, a sight better than the touristy ones.
I try to find the best ones! Glad you agree 😉
Love Lilacs ♥️😍
They smell sooo good! 🥰
Many towns in wisco have a tavern & a post office & a gas station of yer lucky
Yep! And usually a church thrown in somewhere too.
Custard and Jelly nice Sally!
sounds delicious
@@SightseeingSally Never had Jelly? Gelatin?
With that kind of fence around it something different not a normal fence.
I’m not really sure, thought the same.
You should do a video on Cameron wi and stop by for a beer.
That’s near Chetek, right?
@@SightseeingSally yes. It's where the two cops got shot and killed last month.
Where can I buy one of those signs?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!
US Army Armoured Personnel Carrier and some Navy monument!
What was the ice cream place called??
Coleman is served by the Escanaba &final
So was cheers named after the tv show?
Excellent question! I don’t know the answer tho.
Yep, even had menu items with TV inspired names.
Stationhouse was Dog and Suds before
Plainfield Wisconsin ? 😳🤫
“POP”. Hmmm only in Wisconsin lol (coke sota) hmmm
I normally don’t call soda “pop” but that’s how it was referred to in the historical records
@@SightseeingSally it’s ok … things you say reminds me of when I worked up in Wisconsin and the people I worked with would say things and I use words from the south… so we pick on each other
How come Wisconsin doesn't have much shrubbery or underbrush ?
Idk, maybe because most Wisconsin counties employ someone to cut the ditches and clear the brush away from the roads?
I miss Marty.
Slow children at play - where have all the fast kids gone?
They left town lol
@@SightseeingSally
In a hurry of course.
🤪
"Your honor, this woman was found in the park near the ice cream parlor indulging......yes, your honor in broad daylight !!! ....guilty of indulgence"...... yup....potential high crime and should punished appropriately
Lol you crack me up Jay
@@SightseeingSally you are guilty
Can you taste the crème de menthe?
Yes! Though you would probably have to eat a ton of it to get any sort of effect from it
True! “Sightseeing Sally”, ya know, long ago I did have a piece of rum cake at a Wake that almost gave me a buzz Lol!
Dessert humor aside, I sure do enjoy your videos of
“off the beaten path” little Wisconsin towns !
Way back In the day (before cell phones & small sized camcorders ) my brother & I used to go around rural Wisco, exploring old abandoned farms, old barns, one room schools, & little country churches.
The little towns , along with a Tavern & a post office, often had a little church or two. The churches often had adjoining cemeteries, and some of the old headstones were like historic woks of art & sculptures.
Since I’m so into wisco history, if opportunity presents itself, consider adding little schools & churches to your videos. Just like the little rural towns, Once those places are gone, they are gone. Tho many people got hurt and robbed in the name of “progress” , some of theses old places, are only evidence, other than books, that some places & people in our Country, really had a good thing going on! Again , Thank You for filming & creating, & sharing your Wisconsin videos. Stay safe!
I like Coleman
It’s a cool little town. Er, I mean village.
@@SightseeingSally Er??? .... Eh
So sad that no one knows how to pronounce Hammes in Coleman.
A Wisconsin town without Culver's is not a tourist town
Ok, says who? There’s more to Wisconsin than Culver’s 😂
Nooooooo.....you are INDULGING
Oops 🙊 so I guess I am lol
YA DAR HAY MARTY, YA ALLS NEEDS TO WANDER AROUND EAST TENNESSEE AND EXPLORE DOWN YANDER IF YA'LL YANT TO I RECON YOU MIGHT HAVE YA'LL A GOOD TIME 😂😅😅😅
