Peter, if you're still in the area check out the Saratoga/Washington county area. There's a great mix of thriving and not so thriving towns and villages to explore. Saratoga is a gem. Some key smaller towns in the area Schuylerville, Salem, Greenwich, Malta, Cambridge. Tons of history as well. Underground railroad, Presidents, Revolution, Natives etc.
For someone like me who lives in Germany your videos help so much to understand the US. To see how it can look outside the mainstream media. We only see the big cities and famous landmarks, but there are so many beautiful places that (without your videos) i would never see. Thank you.
As Peter says. Do not easily lable a place. I also imagined the USA to be much worse when I was younger. This videos have been a true eye opener. Grüße
The USA was actually much better when you were young. I grew up in NY and now live in Pennsylvania outside Philadelphia. Our country is in severe decline. @@Krueppelfresser
It is refreshing that i can sit in any room at home and go to countries and experience a totally different culture from what you are used to without spending a dime on flight tickets, only internet bundles and lots of people still take it for granted
As an American, this makes me so happy to hear. I often feel troubled that most of the world (including Americans themselves) only see the United States through the lens of mainstream media, which does not represent what our country is really like.
“There’s the dollar general, there’s a Stewart’s, and that’s pretty much it”. Dude just said one of the most small town upstate things I’ve heard in my entire life
Your videos knock out the prejudices and preconceived ideas that I may have about people and places. You remove my ignorance and open me up to what is real.
As a Rochester, NY resident, my lady and I bought land near Placid and Keene valley ~7 years ago. It's so fun seeing you in Keene and Placid visiting places we see every time we drive to our land! Within a year or so we will make the move to stay forever ❤️ the Adirondack park is a different world and I'm so excited for that phase of my life to begin!
I grew up in upstate NY. People assume all of us are from NYC. We had a 100 acre farm & grew all our own food. My Dad was birthed in our home along with his 8 siblings! Thank you, for showing the beauty!
My mother grew up on a 100 acre apple orchard....they did as well. We always had a back up pantry, candles, oil lamps for emergencies when power went out. My grandmother passed at 92 and my mother just passed at 88. We go back to Finger Lakes every year. Winters were tough though for me with asthma so I had to move to a warmer climate.
I've lived in NYS all my life and I know it well. It's spectacular from the Adirondacks to Niagara Falls and from the Thousand Islands to the Finger Lakes, from Allegheny Park to the Catskills, and from Long Island to Buffalo. And sooo much more!! Love it!
Me too, and the places you mentioned are all different. Theres so much difference between the Hudson River valley and the Long Island Sound, or the Finger Lakes, to the 1000 islands or the great Lakes and Niagra falls to the many rivers and streams. Not to forget the canal system. Im in the Finger Lakes and the only thing I would say is the same as in the video, was the ''high tax'' comment, lol.
On my late mother's side of the Family we have had & had relatives in the State of New York too. In the cities of Buffalo & Seneca Falls & Syracuse. I have been to New York 2 times. I live in Michigan.
From the city but yes our state is so big and beautiful! I’ve seen some of upstate but would like to see more one day like the Finger lakes or the 1000 islands. My families been to the Adirondacks, Capital area Albany, and Downstate counties like Ulster, Duchess, Rockland, etc…. But our state is rich in history and culture! Don’t let crazy liberals remove what NY truly is.
@@Chiamex How lovely 😍 I'm A Bronx native and I love our entire New York State! From the city to Long Island to Westchester! it's beautiful it's one of a kind
My husband and I live in Jay, NY, just 17 miles from Lake Placid and in the shoulder of the High Peaks. So nice to see you cover our part of Upstate NY. Serenity, peace, and beautiful wild land. You inspire us to contribute to your channel through merch, and lip service to others. Thank you, Peter!
Tell your folk to stop hating on the city folk! It's a way one way street, we love y'all and are happy to pay high taxes to help you out and keep the upstate beautiful Facts: In fiscal 2010, the Upstate region generated less than 28 percent of the state’s taxes and other non-federal revenues (including SUNY tuition, lottery and other gambling profits, motor vehicle fees and so on). By contrast, Upstate received a much larger share of state-funded expenditures, 42 percent. The state’s largest source of non-federal revenue, the personal income tax, is particularly concentrated Downstate. New York City and its suburbs represent 64 percent of state residents, but around 80 percent of the income tax.
Peter, I was the oldest boy you met in port Henry at 7:09 and appreciate still put that in the video. I encourage you to go back to port Henry it is a beautiful place. Thanks
@@PeterSantenellohey u should come too south jersey Salem county and Cumberland county there a lot of that type of history there even a house Underground Railroad
Yes, great idea! A series about upstate NY would be fascinating. I’m from Arizona and have spent some time in the Finger Lakes area and loved it. I would love to see more.
I live in the southern Catskill Mountain area of NY. The entire Hudson Valley is filled with things to see and do. 1969 Woodstock site and 94 and 99, Finger lakes region, western NY, great lakes region. Taxes suck but the rest is beautiful✌🐺
There are 3 regions of ny state. NYC, upstate and western ny state. The vibe in western ny is more midwest. Lake erie was industrial, rust belt midwest. Lake ontario, not so much. A well kept US secret is both the nuclear age and the space age were started in western ny. These beginnings are still classified. Understand, the folks in Huntsville, AL worked on getting the US craft to space. Navagating in space is a whole different matter ... developed in western ny.
@@adrianeragan2694 I agree I was born in Tucson Arizona and raised in Upstate New York a lot of good history from where I'm around the underground railroad and all that and you know the first Red Cross I live right by Clara Barton in the town of Dansville New York. But Harriet Tubman that run the underground railroad is right on the path where I grew up and it's amazing the old farm houses that used to take them in hide them in between the walls and they had their processes down really good. Yes I would love to see Peter come over this area like Naples New York down into there and it's just a lot of history and all the grape Vines and the big farms and just just all the beautiful little towns I have a camp up in the Adirondack mountains up by Russell New York and I just love it up there it's right by the state lands my property is as soon as you drive in the state lands up that are backed up by the Canadian border. And I haven't been up there in years but I need to get up there and check out my camp and go spend some time. If I could I would move up there in a heartbeat but the winners are so hard and my age terminally ill and disabled veteran I just wouldn't be able to do it. God bless you and thank you for your post
I am a Brit and now 60+ but my favourite book in my early teens was “My Side of the Mountain” by Jean George. I went on a training course some years ago in Niskayuna and managed to get a visit to the Catskills and walked along the Hudson; absolutely brilliant. I would have loved to tell the 14 year old me that one day I would go there one day; I was a bit emotional and I do not do that sort of thing normally 😊
I'm 54 years old, and look forward to Peter's video drop every Saturday just as much, if not more, than I did Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid in the 70s. Top quality, entertaining, informative, insightful....the adjectives just don't do Peter justice!
I grew up in the seventies. I thought the freedom we had ,was gone. Looking at the kids on the 4 wheelers, reminded me of myself. Bikes Not Screens. Thanks Peter. Love Ya.x
Yes 👍🏽 I wrote a mini bike in the 1980s in San Diego, CA with cousins and friends. Loved seeing those children and the kids playing in the train tracks.
My brother and I grew up on Long Island. Dad loved the country and wanted a quiet place we could all play. Bought acreage in the Catskills...so many great memories of the woods and the mini bike trails. Thank You Greenville !
it's so weird...I plan every Saturday to see the next video you upload, It's kind of like in the "old" days when we set aside a certain time each week at our house to watch the next episode of our favorite sit com or drama. I love that you love our country. When you show how diverse we are, it's a miracle that we've become the United States of America. Thank you for exploring for us!
I just discovered your channel and I love your content. I'm a life long resident of western NY and I've always had to share with out of state friends and family that there's a huge difference between NYC and upstate. Now I can direct them to your channel for your history lessons with great videos. Thank you!
My husband is from Western NY and we moved here from North Carolina 8 years ago. Western NY is a hidden gem, and home to beautiful rivers, lakes, gorges, forests, farms, historic sites, wineries, and craft breweries that almost no one (including people from NYC and neighboring areas) even know existsI I have the privilege of working at both a state park and a large living history museum here, and nearly everyone who visits raves about WNY’s beauty, the fascinating history, and how amazing it’s been for them to to see!
we sure do, eternal flame falls, little rock city, Letchworth state park, the Niagara gorge, Niagara falls ofc, old fort niagara, the lockport locks, Becker farms, tift nature preserve, theres too much to remember, you can spend your whole life here and still find new things to explore. every day.
@@Nogame-u5f It's both real NY. I was born and raised in Queens, but our state is vast. Don't diss people just because they're not from your area. Real New Yorkers stick together!
@@coolhandgatsby If New Yorkers stick together, why is upstate so dependent on downstate welfare? Upstaters need to get their act together if they want respect.
Peter, thank you! I was waiting for an episode about Upstate New York or the Adirondacks! I'm from Hungary and I spent many summers there in Brant Lake, working in a camp with a J-1 visa, just like those guys in Lake Placid. I've been to many places around the state, starting from the city, driving up to Brant Lake, or just driving around when we had time off. Albany, Glens Falls, Lake George, Ticonderoga, Speculator, Rome, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain. And many, many more. Like the lad said in the video, a Dollar General and Stewart's are really the most small town upstate things. Upstate New York will always be like a second home for me, brilliant people around, beautiful places to visit. I truly believe that this state is one of the best place to visit for Europeans. Historical places, big cities, lakes, mountains, everything. You can really take a good look at the other side of the USA, the one that the average man can't really see from here.
I'm from Upstate NY, born and raised in Ithaca. It is an awesome little college town, Cornell University and Ithaca College. The lake, the waterfalls, the wine, makes this place simply awesome! NY IS many things...
So happy to see you in my area! I'm from Texas originally then lived in Florida and Alabama and moved to upstate NY, the people are FANTASTIC, I adore this area and love the genuine hard working people who reside here. I won't ever leave at heart but due to the scarcity of my profession and opportunities I am leaving to southern Georgia. I know I'll miss it here and will return to visit... But they're good people. Thank you for coming.

Hello Peter, i'm a subscriber from Serbia and i didnt miss a single episode you posted. I absolutelly love the story telling that you present through the camera, and the locals you speak to. Everytime i watch your video, it reminds me how much stuff there is on the tip of the iceberg, and how much more there is beneath it. I would love to visit NY one day, and experience the things in person, which hopefully one day i will since not everyone has the abbility to venture out on a scale like you do but regardless of it, i'd love to meet you more than anything. I hope you're having a great day and i wish you the best!
Oh my gosh Peter! Those olympics saved me! My military family, my hubs our children and myself moved to Kansas that winter. It was horrible here. Cold, windy, snow up to here! Depressing, cried all the time, as soon as I dropped my son off at school, I just drove around and cried...then the olympics started! We sat and watched together ...that hockey game blew us away! We were gloriously happy in those times...then the wind stopped, the snow lessened the cold was not so horrible. It got us through some miserable transitional pain.
I've been to ever corner of the United States and as somebody who lives upstate I'm always met with: "New York? Where is your accent?" People really don't understand there is more than NYC attached at the bottom. It's a nice place to live. The mountains aren't far, the ocean is only a couple hours away and the worst that ya might deal with is some cold weather or a rogue tick bite. Nice vid Peter.
I lived upstate for a few years and to this day when I mention anything about living in New York I eventually have to explain I'm not talking about NYC.
I live in southern New Jersey which we know North Jersey and South are very different but yes up state is beautiful. Been to the finger lakes, olde forge and many other places in NY state and it's beautiful!
I’ve never been to the USA but always wanted to visit. After watching your videos, I realize just how many different things the USA has to offer - it’s like a whole bunch of worlds in one! Thank you for sharing! 🙏😍 Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Peter, your videos are always so moving and informative. The dad from Lake Placid is truly a special human being. I got choked up when he started talking about ham radio. My dad was a hobbyist too, and I remember the time and effort he put in to learn morse code for CB/ham radio. I didn't realize how difficult it was until I got much older. He eventually became certified. Although he's no longer with us, I'm incredibly proud of him. I remember the four walls of his ham radio room covered with world maps. He received calls for help from various watercraft vessels experiencing navigational issues at sea and I remember how excited he was to assist them. Today, I'm so proud of all he’d accomplished. Thank you for sharing his story. Just wanted to add, Caribbean people are also incredibly friendly. Peter, you've truly touched our lives in so many ways. Thank you for your amazing content. Take care!
I can only imagine how proud your Dad, or any Dad for that matter would be, to see how well he raised his man who now talks about him in such a wonderful light. Memories and a dear relationship some could only dream of. ♥
HAM radio is not at all CB, just FYI. It's a completely different setup and licensing. My uncle was a HAM operator. My whole family had CBs in the car.
This was a very special video for me, let me explain why, my family immigrated to America from Canada in the middle of the 1800's, they were French Canadians but, originally from France. Most of the family resided in upstate NY; Champlain, Plattsburgh, Rouses Point and so on so forth. I still go to the Adirondacks on a regular. Some of the family resided in Vermont and the surrounding states. I have some family that arrived here on THE MAYFLOWER, some of the family members were involved in the famous witch trials. Thanks again for sharing this upstate NY travel adventure and for all of your other fantastic adventures. God Bless. Love your channel
As a young attorney in Upstate/Western New York all I do is drive through these amazing communities. My favorite thing is stopping at the mom and pop grocery stores. Love it Peter!
Grew up in WNY. It’s not upstate. It’s west. Ie Western New York 😂Continue to educate that WNY is its own area and industry. “Upstate” for us is north of NYC.
@@the-painted-quilter You just contradicted yourself. "Upstate for us is north of NYC" yet all of western NY is north of NYC so upstate... Upstate can be subdivided more into western, Hudson valley, north county, etc
Peter, you should visit the north western part of NY too!! We call it Northern New York or The North Country, not Upstate. The Thousand Islands area is where I live. The history of the area, islands, Great Lakes Seaway trail (I was their contracted photographer for three years) and the lower peaks and foothills of our great adirondacks are amazing. Tug Hill Plateau sits to the east of lake Ontario, the Black River Valley is sandwiched between Tug Hill and the western Adirondacks. We are also home of the US Army's 10th Mountain Division which is one of the few bases where the military's cold and snowy climate training takes place. beautiful times to visit and we'd love to have you show everyone our part, the best part ;) , of NY State! I'd recommend summer and fall only because the St. Lawrence River freezes over so no river boat tours and no Boldt Castle on Heart Island tour, which is amazing! C'mon.... :) Really enjoying your visit to the North Eastern... All of us Northerners are super friendly and down to Earth!
Hello Rebecca, thanks for reaching out! I'm interested, I've never been out that way. If you want to chat further please contact me at: contact@petersantenello.com
I've always known Upstate to end around Albany. Then there's Northern and Western NY. Upstate, though largely rural, is still greatly influenced by NYC, unlike those other areas. This is especially true of the parts of Upstate served by New York Metro (up to Poughkeepsie) where many NYC workers live and commute from.
Born in downstate (Westchester County) went to college in New Paltz now live in Niagara Falls. Also lived in Binghamton. It’s a shame people think NYC is all that New York has to offer, but as Peter showed it’s so much more. Thank you Peter
Peter meets real people all the time but dude with the old cop car who is a Present single father of 4 is a REAL one. Great interaction, totally organic and just wonderful! I'm from South Africa and loving this channel. Kudos Peter
Worked summer jobs in the Adirondacks in 2011-2012, Keene Valley, Lake Placid, etc... thanks Peter, you really pulled me back on memory lane. Greetings to all the upper NY folk, absolutely lovely people and absolutely gorgeous scenery. You missed most of the nice things... you can do easily 3-5 episodes around that region. Bless you Peter!
I'm in the Utica area. Lived here for 30 years. It's sad how thoroughly gutted the surrounding small towns are now. There's a serious idle hands problem, unfortunately a lot of drug problems due to the collapse of industry/jobs. Sad because the countryside here is so beautiful.
@@rea8755 yeah thats why I can't justify moving there. I'd rather go to northern new england because all three of those states have constitutional carry laws. Hell, Vermont, of all places, was actually the first state to instill that protection to the right. It was a much different state back then though; but at least they respect their state's constitution. New Hampshire seems kinda like the best of both worlds. It takes liberties and gun rights very seriously, maintains the friendly atmoshpere of rural america, and it has the added benefit of everyone wanting their privacy. What great interviews! You really have a gift for opening people up and getting them to converse. My wife, dog and I drove through the Adirondacks a couple of autumns ago right at peak color. Incredibly beautiful place. Thanks for doing a segment on this overlooked area.
Peter! Hi again! I am so glad you made this video! We call ourselves the North Country this far up in the state! You visited the building, my moms side of the family owned in the early 70s and 80s! (The Olympic arena where the miracle on ice happened) My mom used to tell me stories as a kid when she would ask to go, but my grandparents couldn't afford the drive up due to financial burdens. I have Olympic roots tied to the area as well through my mom's side. My Great Great Uncle Patrick Martin was a gold medal winning bobsledder in the late 1940s and 50s and used to use the old tracks they have in the mountains in Lake Placid. He grew up in the small town of Massena, NY, and went to go on to compete in Oslo and other places during his Olympic career. He has a memorial in Massena NY dedicated to his legacy. He died an early death, but it makes me proud to say I'm related to him ❤ I hope there are more videos of our area coming soon! I am so interested to see what else you managed to document! Thanks for visiting. If you ever need a small tour guide of the area, I wouldn't mind helping out! I have family ties to the area up here. 😊
I am from Upstate NY, and my family has a cabin in Newcomb, NY, which is not too far from Lake Placid. I'm surprised you didn't visit even more small towns like Long Lake, Saranac Lake, or Tupper Lake. Also "Go down a half mile to the Stewarts, take a left at the Stewarts, and then go another right at that Stewarts" is totally a way of getting around here xD. I have many, many childhood memories of the Adirondacks, never realizing how really special it all is until I got older. I'm always so tired of people thinking that "NY" means NYC. So thankyou for showing this to more of the world to spread awareness. You've done a great job- also it does rain a lot! So for folks visiting, don't forget your rain gear! It would have been awesome if you could have gone on a kayak or canoe and gone on the Hudson River or the Ausable. It's absolutely gorgeous scenery. Ideas for next time, I guess, if you ever come back to the area. Thanks for making this Upstate NYer proud :)
As someone born and raised in the North Country it tickles me to hear someone call Tupper Lake or Saranac Lake small towns. I guess a matter of perspective like so many other things in life. The Adirondacks truly are a special place, to me it's paradise, even in winter lol. Love from Bloomingdale NY
That is funny because I grew up in upstate NY and plan to move to the West. I have not even left the east coast but both sides are breathtaking. I see why he moved to NY, it's pretty much the same climate as Seattle but less rainy and more affordable.
Next time you are in NYS, hit us up. My husband and I are locals and own a small business in Central New York. We can show you parts of the historic underground railroad as well as "Little" Ellis Island, a still-in-business hotel that was part of the prohibition period and even Paul Revere's route through Rome, NY. Lots of history throughout this state. Also: Thank you so much for actually respecting the upstate area and not referring to anything above NYC as "upstate".

I have been a teacher since 2002. I find your journalism is so grass roots and find that you truly do what you can to seek the truth. I have been a fan for a long time. In this day and age, it is so hard for our students to seek the truth because everything is so polarized. I am big fans of you and the channel five guy. I think both of you guys are going to revolutionize the way we get our information. We need to move away form relying on big networks covering a story with an agenda. Thank you for all you do Peter.
I agree! I found Peter’s videos because my grandsons teacher would have them watch his videos every week in his high school history class. He went to a Christian private school and I thought It was an awesome teaching tool for the kids to see how others live in the world. I don’t think watching these videos would be allowed in public schools.
12:20 Whenever I come across libraries well maintained in bygone architecture, it warms my heart. I almost view it as a temple of sorts and it comes across as sacred to me. And I absolutely appreciate the people that keep these institutions alive these days. I have been to a couple in my home country and they carry a special aura and tranquility that I value highly. Thanks again Peter for such an insightful and wonderful upload.
It would seem that they retain the original collection of books and add to this. A very worrying trend in NZ is that all the books are NEW and older books no matter what are thrown out or sold off for a dollar. This is how minds are trained.
Finally a video about my area! I am in the Rochester area, near Lake Ontario. Most people think we live near the skyscrapers! Upstate NY is one of a kind.
I live and run a business in the Adirondacks. Paradox Brewery is very close to where you filmed. My business is supported by locals and tourists. The industry in the park has change mostly to tourism. Housing is a problem and finding workers is an issue. To revitalize the area, low-cost housing must be available for workers to live. It’s a safe and beautiful area with many outdoor activities. Thank you for showing how special the Adirondack park is to the locals and our guest.
True story, when I worked at a county agency, a co-worker took a leave to be a hostess at the Lake Placid Olympics village in 1980. She was a beautiful young lady (Jackie M.), a bit older than me (I was 22) and she met the back-up goalee from the US hockey team. They fell in love and eventually married. The very last memory I have of my father was watching the miracle on ice with him on TV. He passed away 2/29/1980.

I'm from Scotland and lived and worked in Upstate New York back in 1987 ... it was a magical experience and one which will be etched in my mind forever . Back then there was no sign whatsoever of bad times or downturns ..anywhere . It was a brilliant place to reside and I did not want to return home . It saddens me that there are such difficulties now , but most countries throughout the world are going through similarities. I wish I knew the magic formula to fix the ills of the planet . Best wishes .
Thank you very much for your input. My ancestors from Clan Bell came from Scotland. The Scots built a great deal of tthis nation. I am working toward a long visit to Scotland and believe I will regret leaving with your same sentiments for America. Many Americans are crying now but most of us are still a pioneering people and we will right ourselves in the end. Bless you -Lassie from Upstate NY

Where were you working in NY? And where are you from in Scotland? I spent a 3 wk. vacation in the UK, had to search for'' Nessie'', all I saw was your cute long-haired cows and a feisty Westie pup.
I've lived in upstate New York my whole life- grew up in Buffalo and have been living in the Adirondacks the past 5 years. My family and I spent a few summers in the Nothern Adirondacks in the same areas covered in this video. It's a beautiful area and this video encapsulates it very well. It's crazy how much upstate NY has to offer but is overlooked by the city.

What’s up peter, I lived in Nyc and upstate all my life. I came across your channel today and man you have a great thing going here. You’re brave, informative and curious. Keep up the phenomenal work.
Peter, I love your videos, I’m in the U.K.and love seeing the American life you show. I’ve been obsessed with your country since I was a child yearning for space while growing up in London! I now live in Sussex (where my parents grew up) and the part where you went into the library and talked with the librarian about the roof made me chuckle. Our church (down a dead end lane) has a very old section that looks like an upturned boat. It’s one of the boats William the Conqueror sailed from France and was then used as a roof for one of the first Norman churches he built. I absolutely love these videos, I’m from NYC and I love being born and raised in Queens but man this itch to travel the real New York is growing. Thank you for these videos I love every single one of them.
Thanks for this beautiful piece. I grew up on Long Island and love exploring Upstate. I was struck by the gentleman who had been a dairy farmer who said he didn't see the value for his tax dollars, but then said many people in his community depended on welfare and social security.
@@MsMesem That's what the inflation reduct act does. It gives incentives to companies to stop exporting our jobs and bring manufacturing back to the US. Here in GA, it has created 60,000 semiconductor chip manufacturing jobs. This creates jobs here and helps with supply chain problems which were the cause of the crazy price rises that we were seeing 3 yrs ago, and makes us less dependent on countries like China. It also has created many jobs in renovations of our infrastructure.
Peter I'm so thrilled you did this video. I'm an upstate NY'er and there's lots of farm land/farms/Small towns here. I'm not quite as north as where you filmed this, but hopefully it opens people's eyes to how a lot of this state actually is. I'm surrounded by mountains & lakes. Lots of blue collar workers here, and small town life. It's so much different than what people picture when they hear "NY". Thanks for your great work 👍 👏
see, as a NYer as well, but only an hour from NYC, this is exactly what I call NY.. I have traveled about 30% of the state, but I have little interest in the rest of the country, more about seeing more of our great state! I agree, from columbia county north is what NY is really all about!
@@johnlombardo7816 I'm up in the Southern Adirondacks, north of Saratoga Springs. It's beautiful here! Although the taxes and high cost of living are killing us all 😞
I live in Clayton, NY. As Upstate NY as you can get. 1 mile from the Canadian border and home to the 1,000 Islands in the St Lawrence river. You should check it out.
Love it. We love Clayton and ABay. But I have to disagree Champlain and the other small towns are true upstate. Clayton is a bit south and west. Haha. Those of us from upstate all have a vision of our upstate.
@@122593chicoChamplain wins. You're even more northern than me (Massena), as the border angles upward on the east out there by about 5 miles. None of us are upstate-- we're hours north of that level of civilization. 😅
Please visit the Appalachian Mountains and do a video on the flood. Would really like to see more coverage of the people that live there and what they are going through. News obviously isn’t covering it but most likely a Lahaina situation
Shawn Ryan just put out a video talking to veteran rescue workers who are working in the NC towns that were affected. It’s a great eye opening video describing the situation there. It shows how Americans are showing up for those in need and how the government bureaucracy Is failing them.
Thanks for the great video! As a resident of upstate ny (schenectady) that's a nice change, usually people are just showcasing the depressed cities and towns of rural upstate New York
Peter is the UA-cam version of Charles Kuralt. It's amazing what he does with a handheld camera, local residents and a good editor (his wife I believe).
As someone from Morocco, your videos made me see different sides of the American culture and the beautiful landscapes in the US. God bless you and thank you for your high quality videos and interviews ❤
I drove across New York one summer, coming from Canada, with a point of taking in all the big forts (Niagara, Oswego, Ticonderoga, William Henry) and some waterfalls down near the Finger Lakes. A lovely part of the world. Some places clearly had seen better times, but people were friendly.
I have lived in Upstate NY, the Mohawk Valley all my life. Lots of amazing history. Not a lot of industries. Amish from Chester County PA have taken up residence here, which has improved the old farms. I always appreciate the heart behind your videos. You do great work and it matters.
Love that you’re showing the vastness and character other parts of NY have. As a born and raised person from the Hudson Valley, thank you for showing our state some love and to break a few stereotypes about Upstate 🙂
I love watching your videos Peter. Coming from the UK myself we only hear whats happening in places like New York city and LA. Watching these videos gives a sense of the "Real" America for want of a better word.
Hello Friend! You made me stop and think..."Other countries probably think American influencers are what all of America is like. OMG...other countries probably think we're all Kardashians!" I assure 98% of Americans are not. Our own media and government portray us as wild beasts. 98% of us love people, good conversations, helping others, our families, our neighbors. We hate war, and fighting...but, we don't take any crap. lol. We love America. We love other friends from other countries. We want peace for every soul.
What the tell-lie-vision shows is just a tiny little glimpse into the world we live. Regardless of where we are. The world is a massive place, with 8+ billion people. Have fun and explore. But watch out for the spiders and cryptoids.
We visited NY state back in 2007. Loved the country side, the water falls, parks, hiking, just very fun to wonder around in. So much history and old buildings. Love your video. Brought back memories. I’d like to go back to some areas I haven’t visited yet. This inspires me.
Love the journeys you take me on----- so appreciative. As a kid my mom took us to Fort Ticonderoga during summer break from school----i will never forget it. Thanks Mom.❤️ I do plan to revisit the area soon now that I'm in my 60s.

Another GREAT Journey, Peter!! I discovered your channel today and love it! Thank you for sharing your travels and meeting new friends along the way!🇺🇸❤️
Hi Peter, I have been a fan of your channel for some time and absolutely enjoy your content. I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY but have been going to Adirondack park since I was a kid, I’m 64 now. I now live in NC and locals here have no idea how beautiful NY state is. One of my best vacations was in a house boat on lake Champlain, only half the lake is in NY state. Keep the videos coming!
I moved to a small rural farming town in western NY from a totally different life living at the beach in Jersey three years ago and I'm still adapting to the changes at times.
Amazing video! I’ve lived in NY all my life, (72 years) about 2 hour drive from the area shown in your video. I’ve been to almost every place you showed. You gave me a new appreciation for what we have here, but there are 1,312 other places in NY that are just as amazing!

As an American, this makes me so happy to hear. I often feel troubled that most of the world (including Americans themselves) only see the United States through the lens of mainstream media, which does not represent what our country is really like.

Facts: In fiscal 2010, the Upstate region generated less than 28 percent of the state’s taxes and other non-federal revenues (including SUNY tuition, lottery and other gambling profits, motor vehicle fees and so on).

Yes, I get he impression he missed some really nice spots.
Very true!!!
Peter - as always - you bring "richness" to a world we never get to see. Thank You So Much!
I'm in the Utica area. Lived here for 30 years. It's sad how thoroughly gutted the surrounding small towns are now. There's a serious idle hands problem, unfortunately a lot of drug problems due to the collapse of industry/jobs. Sad because the countryside here is so beautiful.
Yes, I agree The vilifying of all the guns and manufacturing... think Remington Arms didn't help did it
@@rea8755 yeah thats why I can't justify moving there.
If they'd legalize weed it'd be perfect haha
@@muscleman125nooooo!!!! Dont legalize weed!!!! You will regret it! Just grow yohr own. I live in a big city & weed is legal here but i refuse to buy from dispensary! Except the damn governor won't legalize weed and neither will the predecessors that are running FOR Governor . It's disgusting because they cause residents to risk their freedom going across state lines to get weed where it's more shops and more product equalling power prices aka capitalism where it's cheaper for residents but at the expense of freedom.
(The Olympic arena where the miracle on ice happened)
My mom used to tell me stories as a kid when she would ask to go, but my grandparents couldn't afford the drive up due to financial burdens.
He died an early death, but it makes me proud to say I'm related to him ❤
I hope there are more videos of our area coming soon! I am so interested to see what else you managed to document! Thanks for visiting. If you ever need a small tour guide of the area, I wouldn't mind helping out! I have family ties to the area up here. 😊
I admire Peter’s social skills. He talks to ppl so easily
You're from a beautiful area!! I'm from further south in the Catskills but I've been up ur way 😊
Stewart’s is an upstate classic. 😊 I’m 167 miles south of new comb, and 90 minutes north of NYC! Fishkill, NY! Gang gang!

We need to rename the state or the city. Even googling things is hard sometimes... Like no, I want NY STATE, not NY city.
Man, we so need content like this these days! My kiddo relocated from Seattle to Canton, NY. He got to know a whole other side of America.
That is funny because I grew up in upstate NY and plan to move to the West. I have not even left the east coast but both sides are breathtaking. I see why he moved to NY, it's pretty much the same climate as Seattle but less rainy and more affordable.
That single father you spoke with is an awesome human being.
Just outstanding. The true heart and soul of the USA.

He can get a job on the radio or voice over he has a really great sense of humor and an amazing voice
Amen 🙏🏽
I wish this presenter donated some money to that man with 4 kids
I've spent a lot of time all over Upstate NY. It's truly amazing. The landscape, the people, it touches your soul.
Thank you, Peter.
Your food truck looks good. Ever going to swing by NYC?
@@MbisonBalrog Thank you! I'm afraid NYC is out of our service range. We are located literally in the center of New York State. NYC is about 5 hours south of us.

I live in Syr and consider anything above the tristate area as upstate. For the life of me I don’t understand why ppl get so weird and territorial when it comes to NYC. Nobody cares.

Super cool video Peter, I love all your videos. However, this video hits home as it is my backyard. You do a great job telling the story from the UA-cam perspective. Keep up the great work!
This is my dream. To travel the country/world but I physically and financially take care of my disabled mother so I can't. I'm living vicariously through you, so thank you, truly.
God will help you in your dream. You and your mom are in my prayers.
Thank you to all who ever speak, escort and engage with Peter!
And thanks Peter, never fails to enlighten and inform....from central Vermont🤗
I have been several in Upstate New York and I find it absolutely fascinating for the nature - towns and lakes . Great video ! Thank you so much !!!
I have a library on my own in the far north 👍
It would seem that they retain the original collection of books and add to this. A very worrying trend in NZ is that all the books are NEW and older books no matter what are thrown out or sold off for a dollar. This is how minds are trained.
I couldn’t agree more
Finally a video about my area! I am in the Rochester area, near Lake Ontario. Most people think we live near the skyscrapers! Upstate NY is one of a kind.
Xerox Tower is a skyscraper
I'm in Rochester too! I suggested that he visit the Finger Lakes. Great area to live!
Me too! Rochester, Kodak, Xerox, B&L, the Genesee river. I highly recommend the Finger Lakes, where I grew up. 😊
Hey neighbor!!
Taxes are WAY too high but the state is SO underrated and pretty
I live and run a business in the Adirondacks. Paradox Brewery is very close to where you filmed. My business is supported by locals and tourists. The industry in the park has change mostly to tourism. Housing is a problem and finding workers is an issue. To revitalize the area, low-cost housing must be available for workers to live. It’s a safe and beautiful area with many outdoor activities. Thank you for showing how special the Adirondack park is to the locals and our guest.
I have been to your brewery, great place! I still have the T shirt!
It’s always good to see people come up and see Upstate New York. So much rich history and hidden gems to find. I love the video so far!

My hometown in the Adirondacks, moved back after 20 years, and while difficult proud of the people and my upbringing
You need to come back to Lake Placid when there is snow! It’s absolutely magical. Thank you for showing off some of my favorite places to visit as an upstate New Yorker.
I am from Slovakia, I was always kinda felt closer with Upstate New York than any other state, most of the Czechs or Slovaks that moved back then, they moved to the Upstate New York - Pennsylvania Area
So did a lot of Germans move to those areas.
We're about 35 miles south of Port Henry in a hamlet called Clemons. A good third of the population is Latvians who moved here after WWII.

Where were you working in NY? And where are you from in Scotland? I spent a 3 wk. vacation in the UK, had to search for'' Nessie'', all I saw was your cute long-haired cows and a feisty Westie pup.

This is local legend but he landed a few miles away from our village in 1066 and reaped havoc in the surrounding country
Thing is rather than handing out welfare cheques the government should have some sort of programme to introduce other industries or businesses.
Your videos are so cool!! I love how you talk to the locals - anyone & everyone!!! There really are some good people out there in the US!!!
This makes me want to spend years travelling small cities and towns all through America. Man, you make good stories, Peter! Thank you.
