This is was their darkest album, they just hated the world and kinda themselves at this time and they made the best music then!
seems like a common theme in music tbh. regardless of genre or artist it seems to me that artists do their best work while theyre at theyre worst

@@jxstified7558 lorna shore is just noise, I wouldn't call that heavy. Bloodbath eaten and CC scourge of iron would be the better pick. I don't really listen to slipknot as much because most of their fans are toxic children now... Not saying that you are it's just that there's no free speech in the fanbase anymore.

Backstory to 515. Sid (the dj) Grandpa was in hospital as they were just finishing up the album. So he planned on finishing his stuff as fast as possible to get to his grandpa. Unfortunately he passed away before he could do that. So sid went into the studio and just recorded what you heard in the opening to let his pain and anger out
I remember buying the album on CD back in 2001. I went to the store with my Slipknot shirt and at box the cashier said" You are at least the twentieth guy today with that sort of shirt and this Album. I just said:" It is a damn good band". Oh.. the good old days.

Was hoping to see your reaction during the "unleash hell" style of breakdown in The Heretic Anthem but you edited it out! Same for the punchy, bursting breakdown in The Shape. Same for the agonizing screaming at the end of Skin Ticket. Oh well, I'm just glad you did a video on Iowa. 🤘 It's one of my top 5 music albums.
The screams in (515) are actually the dj sid wilson in the booth screaming after his grandfather passed away. And disasterpiece was written about a bully that messed with corey in school
This CD got me through some shit back in the day. IOWA era Slipknot set the bar extremely high for other bands. Slipknot in there prime right here.

Something that you may not know, but in an interview based around this album, it was revealed that it's Sid doing the intro for this album.
This is my favorite Slipknot album (Vol. 3 is a close second though). Those albums are what got me into heavier music when I was around 12 years old. I'm 30 now and listen to stuff that's heavier and darker, but this album was really my gateway and it holds a special place in my heart.

React to their first album Mate Feed Kill Repeat, it came out in 1996. It was before Corey Taylor(The one that sings from the self-titled to now) They were a six piece with a different singer, and before they got signed and released the self-titled. A lot of the song were re-worked on the later albums. You'll have to listen carefully.
This is the best and heaviest album Slipknot ever done!
I'm 31 years old. I was 9 when this album came out and I got it for my birthday. It provided the recipe for what I look for in music to this day. One of my all time favorite albums.
If I’m not mistaken the intro (515) is a recording of Sid after one of his family members past away. That was him grieving.
This album is the epitomy of how Iowa made them feel lol

This album is an absolute masterpiece. It’s dark, it’s angry, it’s violent, and I love it. Right from the get go with 515, which is literally just Sid’s screams after he found out his grandfather died, and it doesn’t let up from there. Iowa is easily one of the most disturbing songs in history, both in lyrics and in tone (especially if you know the backstory.) If you ever need to let anger out, listen to this album. I really don’t know what else to say, it’s just incredible.
With a planned release of albums. Which you might be doing. You could get through their other albums in time for the new one on Sept 30th.
Iowa was about when I got into them. Being that loner kid, the one that had very few friends. I felt so much of this album. The darkness, the alienation, the hatred for the world and its people. It's a part of my life's soundtrack.
If you wish to branch out a little, into another nu-metal band from around this time. I'd highly suggest Mudvayne. Both L.D. 50 and The End of All Things to Come are amazing albums. They had others after, but those two are S-tier.

I really hope she checks out the next album as they sort of changed their style a little bit and they become a bit more experimental. Volume 3, their next album ended up being their most successful

Iowa song is talking about what Corey said making love with a dead corpse and he said while at the recording booth he bash window glass and cutting himself screaming and the other screaming where two members screaming too I mean holy god that’s insane hope they make a song like this different but be so nice

Maybe in your own time you should go back and listen to 'MFKR' or 'Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat', which was technically their first album. There were some members back then that are no longer with the band, including Anders Colsefni who was the original lead singer. I say this because some of the songs from the beginning were reworked, including the song you liked 'Gently'. I like both version really. Anders has a youtube channel somewhere where he talks about those days. I'm older, in my late 30's now...but this was really the generation of Slipknot that I knew the most about. I was very obsessed with them up through 'Iowa'. This was when they were still kind of a mystery to us. During 'Iowa' and before I remember being a part of a now defunct Slipknot forum. We used to talk a lot about them. There were images floating around or underground tapes where we all guessed who the person from the band was. As the years went on, it lost it's luster on me. The mystery was gone.
You need to listen to Korn and there first album self titled they are also very good 👍

The song Iowa is literally about spending time with a corpse. So it’s understandable when you look at the lyrics, something similar to what you’d hear a person sic in he head listen to. But id recommend volume 3. That’s the next album, a lot more modest and calmer then that
