You're very right. The build up in the vocals makes this song not only interesting.... It's my all time favourite of theirs. When they started this one when I was at one of their concerts the place went totally down. Everyone in that pit came out broken, with a big smile....🤘🍺 Rock on.
It's a shame that they stopped performing it after the Iowa tour. I just found out that they were performing it again around 2014-2015, but then stopped again. I think it's too underrated and it's better than a lot of the songs that they have played many more times over the years.
11:22 My Plague was one of the singles from this album, along with Left Behind. I do think that those two songs are more accessible compared to some other songs from Iowa, like Disasterpiece. But at the same time you're probably also getting used to the heavier, darker songs. I can confirm this from my own experience. I got into Slipknot with Vol 3 back in 2004 (I was 12 years old) when I heard Duality. They only had those 3 albums out (plus MFKR) and going back to their older stuff at the time was quite the experience for me at that age. As I got older Slipknot's heavier stuff became my favorite and I eventually started gravitating towards heavier bands; 12 year old me would probably never believe that nearly 30 year old me listens to death metal. Edit: I'd also like to add, I came across a video not that long ago 'How Slipknot Changed Metal Forever' and I think you'd find it interesting. ua-cam.com/video/DT333cbXWOE/v-deo.html Slipknot often gets labeled as nu-metal, but in reality a lot of their influences came more from the thrash/death metal scene. They knew how to take those extreme metal elements and bring them to the masses in way that most other bands haven't, and because of them they got a lot of people (myself included) into more extreme stuff.
That was the one that got me, the first one I heard and saw. The music video was cut from the Disasterpieces DVD with Resident evil flavours. I just stood there and watched. "These guys are no joke", I thought.
This is easily one my favorite Slipknot songs of all time, maybe top 5 or even top 3 if I really thought about it. I knew you'd like it! Slipknot is usually excellent at mixing intensity with the right amount of melody and think this is the best example of that. That chorus is insanely catchy and melodic, but the song overall is just intense. Like you said, it also has a great build. Someone else said it below, but it's definitely worth checking out the New Abuse mix from Resident Evil.
I love the album version by far... shocking how there are still people out there that has only heard the radio version. Pretty cool how this song made it to a (resident evil) movie sound track and all edited for the music video . Who remembers "I AM HATE" on the "Rollerball" soundtrack and whole band playing music in the movie cameo? Speaking of "i am hate", it is still on Laurens, Iowa hit list...
I think the change is just you, your use to hearing alot of their stuff so it's not as scary as it once might have been to your ears and mind. I'll never forget buying this album at hastings at a midnight release party...yeah I'm old, and I never left the parking lot I played the whole thing in the car it was amazing. It's always been my favorite album but now that we are not your kind came out I had to move it down to 2. Happy maggot monday!!!
i mean the first few he was a heavy smoker & drinker that he almost died a few times because of it now he has fully quit both it affected his voice & breath control he has said as much in interviews over the last few years
There's another version of this song. Which is my favourite version. It's called my plague new abuse mix... it's a more radio friendly version. I guess it's cause it was for resident evil an needed radio play i don't know.. but imo.. its the better version.
I agree that this is worth checking out! I usually hate the radio versions (censorship is dumb), but they did something different overall with this one.
``The only thing you really know about me is... and that`s all you`ll ever know`` Best line in the song for me.
Yes!

I love so many Slipknot songs, but this one is definitely my favorite.
Welcome to Iowa, Fields of Opportunities :)
Gotta love My Plague! An absolute classic. I like the way it switches between clean and growly Corey almost constantly

I was one of the ones that suggested The Nameless aka malice way back when and I’m glad to see it’s still #6
Damn straight.
Love, love, love early Slipknot!
LOVE this song!!

The song that hooked me to slipknot
Rocking the shiitake mushroom shirt. 😁
You know it

What a cool memory!
Corey explained why his scream and vocals are so different for every album and he said it was caused by the difference in the masks he wore.
This song was in the first Resident Evil movie.
alongside “ left behind “ this was my first slipknot song
Should do Left Behind next. 👍
i mean the first few he was a heavy smoker & drinker that he almost died a few times because of it now he has fully quit both
it affected his voice & breath control he has said as much in interviews over the last few years
My Plague is one of my favorites but in general my favorite songs in Iowa are People=Shit, Left Behind, I’m Hated, and Heretic Anthem.
I ❤️❤️❤️ Heretic Anthem!
@@MusicCatsandCoffee really cool song
Been listening to Slipknot since 06, or 07 and yeah the opening line for disasterpiece is still disturbing to me even though I love that song.
I think my plague was pauls fav iowa song...not sure though
Lauren have you seen Resident Evil 2002 it’s probably the only good RE movie but anyways My Plague is the anthem for that movie.
Nope :)
BEST NU METAL SONG EVER!!!...🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡😎😎😎😎😎😈😈😈
Written for a film (Resident Evil) so perhaps intentionally a bit more 'gentle' than Disasterpiece/People =
'Gentle' is not the right word mind 😂
When you do slipknot polls?
Every weekend. Click the community tab. :)
I think it’s a bit of both My Plague is one of the “lighter” songs on Iowa (though still great) and you’re getting used to their darker heavier stuff.
Eventually you have to expand the top 20 to a tip 85 lol
Only a matter of time
Its impossible to have a top slipknot songs list...especially cuz of iowa, self titled, ahig and wanyk
Dang how unsainted dropped to number 20? It was in your top 10(most of the time atleast) lol
I know!!! That one really took a drop but I know as soon as I hear it again, it’ll move back up. I don’t know why I ever did this to myself lol

I'll have to check that out
I agree that this is worth checking out! I usually hate the radio versions (censorship is dumb), but they did something different overall with this one.
Slipknot albums are always gonna be varied it would be boring if it was all the same.
Resident Evil soundtrack 4 life
It's one of my least favorite songs. But I enjoyed your reaction, though. Keep it up! ~
