  • On a recent visit to TARGET, I found FISHING GEAR ideas in the discount bargain bin. Most of these items were a dollar or $3. I love to find fishing hacks, useful items and discounted wins for fishing in stores where you would not expect to find FISHING GEAR.
From Environmentally friendly line disposal to storage containers and organization items, I found some useful items. @jerry'sretirementwisdom65
Target has a small fishing section but these items were out in the store in other areas. #fishing #diy #bassfishing #fishinghack #hack #target #retirement

I've made most of my own fishing rods and lures since I was around 11 years old. An old man taught me how to wrap rods so I would get them from yard sales and rebuild them like new. Another older gent taught me how to make a specific lure from a paint brush handle or piece of a cedar branch. It had a piece of coat hanger drilled right thru the center, with a large single treble (or single, if that's all we had) hook on one end. It was made for bridge fishing where it was possible to catch fish over 40#. It was painted with the tried and true, white body with red head. Later on, I took that knowledge, and started making notch mouth popping plugs, and everything else from there on out. My favorite salt water trout pole is one I got 40 years ago, and rebuilt it 25 years ago. I learned how to make cast nets, crab and bait traps, and whatever was needed.
As I get older and am looking at retirement, I am glad I have all these maker's hobbies to keep me from ever getting bored. I have always serviced all of my buddies reels and I got kind of known for it for a number of years until it became overwhelming while being mixed with my day job. I would come home with a bucket on my doorstep with a post-it and 3-4 reels needing cleaned, shimmed, doctored, whatever.
