Instead of putting the clamp on the one end of the kayak tiedown, you could have carabiners on both ends and simply loop the Paracord around the post or tree branch and clip the carabiner onto the Paracord to make a loop. A loop with the carabiner is going to be stronger and can adapt to any size, beyond just the width of the mouth of the clamp.
A strong suggestion to kayakers: always have your paddle on a kayak leash, whether it is a store-bought one or one that you make yourself from Paracord. I capsized my kayak in heavy current when I got stuck sideways to a log and would’ve lost the kayak downstream had I not been holding firmly onto my paddle, which was leashed to the kayak. I lost a lot of gear but was able to pull my kayak up onto shore with the leash.
I ordinarily always have the leash on my paddle, but that day I forgot and luckily remembered, and decided to attach it literally five minutes before my kayak capsized. I would’ve been sunk figuratively, and maybe literally too, as I would’ve been stuck without a boat on an island in a big fast flowing river. At least I had my phone in a waterproof case around my neck.

Excellent idea using the cheap eyeglass case as a fishing lure wrap/protector. The ones on Amazon are $2 to $5 each, more if you buy a namebrand, and as you stated, not all of them can handle a longer jerkbait.

I started thinking that when he cut off the end of the skirt material near the zip tie, he should toss some super glue on it, but instead he simply folded it over giving double the skirt and no end that could unravel easily. Really smart idea.
