Who's listening in 2023?? This one never gets old! From beginning to end, this song still elevates my metal spirit into a frenzy. I had this song ringing in my head today so had to find this clip. What an awesome demonstration of Thin Lizzy. Lynott's voice delivering that distinct, in-depth power, and John Sykes just shredding the heck out of that Les Paul! It's a journey! They were underrated then, they are underrated today! Rock on brothers and sisters!
Lizzy were NEVER underrated. Always brilliant. Many bands that came after them cited them as a major influence ... Iron Maiden, Metallica, most of the NWOBHM bands, practically any band using twin guitar harmonies.
7270 Just got here Your right on every level. Its like a conspiracy To write them out of history.. In the 80s Lizzy rolled off the tounge With motorhead & ACDC..
Saw Megadeth at the Manchester Academy, played a great version. Met them at a signing session before the gig. Mustaine said it was difficult to play the song right so that it gave Lizzy and the song the respect they deserve.
I hate heroin I love Phil and it was brilliant getting John Sykes to play with Lizzy , hearing this pinch harmonics man this f****** awesome this is a great piece of music history right here people🤘🤘🤘
The greatest lyricist that we've had the pleasure to listen too. Thank you Philip Lynott. For some of the best rock tracks ever written . And this is a perfect example. ☠️🤘
John Sykes brought a completely new dynamic that changed the whole direction the band were heading in. 'Thunder & Lightening' should have been the album that relaunched Lizzy to a whole new generation of metal crazy kids. The Sun Goes Down (live version) still sends shivers and remains my all time favourite track - period!
Max Parkin I would totally agree with you on that Max. I was fortunate enough to see them in their prime i believe in 1977. Their popularity dipped early 80s but when i heard Cold sweat for the 1st time with Sykesy i thought the're back in the game. I still listen to all the albums regularly, a very underated band and sadly missed Phil and Gary. RIP🎸
If you want to see how it should be done performing live check out Gary Moore and friends on the old grey whistle test, dont believe a word absolutely awesome performance. Hope you all agree 🎸👍
@@theodoreritola7641 Dumbest comment I've ever read on a Thin Lizzy video. Renegade wasn't a great album but Thunder and Lightning is one of their best. John Sykes gave them a huge shot in the arm.
This tune, especially live, is the catchiest song ever written in the hard rock genre. It is pure thunder with both a riff and a chorus vocal that is pure ear candy.
One of the most underrated musicians of all time. A true genius whose contributions to the development of hard rock and heavy metal can't be overestimated. But sadly also one of those incredible musicians who left us way too soon. R.I.P. Philip Parris Lynott. Fucking legend
Effortless , this gig. They were always good but it's like they are telepathic, the whole band, here. Perfect. You're not gone Phillip, always and forever in our hearts.
What can you say other than this is one of the best bands ever. Phil was such a great front man (along with Bon Scott) and always had top notch guitarists. It sickens me that they aren't in the RnR HOF, then again, the RnR HOF is a joke. I do believe I am going to put "Cold Sweat" into my band's set list and kick some serious ass with it! RIP Mr. Lynott!
Anybody who played guitar in this band is great in my book Eric, Brian, Gary, John and that also includes Midge Ure and snowy white. They were all in my opinion part of the Lizzy sound and they should have been much bigger than they were . But people seem to forget Scot in all these " who was the best guitarist posts" Well Scot was there from almost day one and still doing it now in the name of Lizzy whether people like the line up or not . Best rock band ever for me and glad I saw them live . Thanks Phil Brian and all the great axe players!
Scott was the back bone of Lizzy his slick laid back style was the foundation of the various incarnations of the band one of the most humble guys, love all his solos
In my book, i call this HEAVY STUFF that you can ROCK ON endlessly without getting fed up with Phil Lynott's voice. I've been listening to the bands music since 1984 up until today .... especially the album "BAD REPUTATION" Phil Lynott - Rock Legend and Rock Icon ! ! just by listening to him gives me a "COLD SWEAT" . . . . YEAH !
I wish people wouldn't keep saying bands are underrated. Thin Lizzy are highly rated. It's nobody's fault if you never heard them before. Seek and ye shall find - and when you find - lap it up. You'll never forget.
I agree! Saw him with Lizzie during this tour and I was 18 at the time. Stood right in front of Sykes and he played a solo ( forget which one ) with his guitar right in front of me. I don't know why but mid-solo I reached out and pulled out his guitar lead! There was silence....John twiddles his volume knob and then realises his lead is out. He looks at me and just shakes his head and caries on. From this day on John Sykes was my guitar hero and I think he still is to this day........
There was no black, there was no white with Phil. There was just great music. Surround him with great musicians and magic happens. Thunder and lightening was one of the greatest albums I have ever heard and sadly Phils last. If you listen, he knew he was going to die and he told you in a few songs on that album.
THIN LIZZY are legends in Europe and legends to those in the USA who fell under their spell (like me). I'm so glad I saw them live in 1978 with Brian Robertson on as the other lead player with Scott Gorham.
Ahh...can someone take me back in time ;) ...Oh Phil and John...can't be today though...I know heaven is a happy bright place with P there...but John, will you plz come back to Sweden for a while :) Play for us...like no one can but you...jamming our nights off aye :)) Glory days indeed...roots of my musical ground. 😮
Phil...the best unknown legend of all time.
a real legend
John Sykes doesn't get enough love as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Not always my cup of tea but objectively brilliant
Agreed. His stuff with Blue Murder was/is awesome.
I agree Matt...
They get lost
Black Rose. Emerald.
Can't be beaten.
John sykes 🎸
Genial siempre, por todas las bandas que colaboro
Dejo huellas un grande y buen vocalista
It's refreshing when you can actually hear the bass in any Rock band.
Phil was a fantastic pick player with incredible tone, groove and feel! RIP to one of rock's top bad ass
Well you always can if you know what to listen for but I get your point :D
Yeah like in Pantera or black sabbath too you can hear the bass and it improves the sound of the song drastically.
...And justice for the bass player!
Was gonna say, that bass at the beginning is lovely
Saw Megadeth at the Manchester Academy, played a great version. Met them at a signing session before the gig. Mustaine said it was difficult to play the song right so that it gave Lizzy and the song the respect they deserve.
Phil Lynott was the Prince of Dublin, everybody loved him

John Sykes is from another planet. That dude is just amazing on the guitar.
Tommy Emmanuel - Classical Gas. Then you will see true greatness.
@@DanFernandesBenficaSaint I know Tommy. I’ve twice seen him live. He is fantastic.
Thin Lizzy = the most underrated/unappreciated rock band in history.
+T Moody usually the "most underrated" thing is used too many times without a reason... this is not one of those times
+T Moody Unfortunately true
I agree
The Thunder and Lightning Album was Off the Hook. Loved all their tunes but that one shot through the stars. Fucking Lizzy Rocks!
legend dude
This is one of the most underrated hard rock tunes of it's era..TOTALLY awsome
Bodyknowledge 77 First time hearing this song, so I know exactly what you're saying. How come I've never heard it before? This kicks so much ass.
It's a good song but it sounds like they lifted the riff straight out of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's song Rock 'n' Roll.
Amen to that..but in a bad way.::)
I loved this album so much when it came out - the entire album stands on its own and still sounds fresh today.
@@wrecklessb6 Great! Though that's not Gary Moore playing, he's John Sykes!!
John Sykes on guitar = legend
That solo melted my fucking face.
Phil Lynott and John Sykes = rock and roll badasses.
Talk about a 1..2 punch ...Sykes Rocks
Lynott is holding up the low end like a master. Totally in the pocket... Fantastic musician!
God damn that bass is heavy! Right in the front, too. Sounds incredible.
Scott said he never went to Phil's side of the stage, because his bass was so damned loud.
He made it sound like all downpicking
When that friggin' bass came in I litteraly shouted 'YEAH!' into the room, heavy as fuck indeed 🤘
Listening now, 2019, f@cking killer Bass sound

and Sykes did the same for Whitesnake. Coverdale thanked him by firing him after making their career defining album.
@@insidethemusicalmind7207 and from then on Whitesnake never put up a proper song.
Agreed! The Sun Goes Down also predicted, strangely, Philo's fate! Love John Sykes!
This song should be a hell of a lot more well known than it is, awesome !!
Listen to all those pinch harmonics .... in 83 !!!! A band way ahead of their time - and so much heavier than perceived.
Zakk Wylde took his whole early persona tone from John
Vivian Campbell also did pinch harmonics in Dio.
Ever heard of a bearded man from Texas named Gibbons? Pinch harmonics a decade earlier. It was one of his signatures.
You can see how much Phil loved playing live. Downey was such a brilliant drummer.
michael88863 imagine, he gazza and Rory where set to join cream, fuck Clapton 😂😂😂
Not only was Brian a brilliant drummer, he still is.

Thin Lizzy always had he best straight ahead rock guitar players
Back in the 80's my High School, Headbanger buddy turned me on to this song. I was hooked!!
Phil's bass sounds like the devil singing; John Sykes sounds like a chorus of Angels. A perfect rock classic.
azerberjankey Naw, that bass sounds like a freight train chuggin thru the night.
absolutely,,a classic rock n roll snarl
Such a bad ass lineup of Lizzy man
One of the best songs of all time.
John Sykes on guitar.. epic performance.
Damn straight.
👍👍👍👍
Love him still ♡
Underrated guitarist !
Downey on drums.... Flawless.
John Sykes invigorated Lizzy & also Whitesnake, awesome guitarist
Unfortunately Sykes was the beginning of the end for Whitesnake, a very good band turned into an american hair metal band, sad.
He needs a reality show on bringing rock bands back to life.
Don't forget Tygers of Pan Tang! 🤟🎸👍
john sykes is a great guitarist, but not a good person. He is very arrogant and egocentric. Phil Lynott was the only one that he had some respect
