Man, I wish there had been just one more album after Thunder and Lightning with John Sykes. Thin Lizzy is so great as a metal band. It's such a shame that's the only one we got.
@Uncle Gilbert I can see it being frustrating to have it that way when the rest of their career was what we call classic rock. Maybe someone a bit less noodley would've suited the band better. I still think Lizzy was right to contribute to NWOBHM, but maybe it could've been more Motorhead and less Van Halen
Just more thin lizzy in general would of been cool. Scott was just as good and as far as this song goes john and his harmonics don't interest me though john can play, and scott never played like that.
@@grindfreakmike5754 yeah, I think it was just a given that 70's bands were aging badly by 1980. Whether that was true or not, I'm sure the record companies feared they were. There was surely some pressure to stay relevant, so picking up a hotshot like John Sykes was the solution. Nobody wanted be shown up by their newer opening band the way Sabbath was humiliated by Van Halen. Ozzy got Randy Rhoads, Dio got Vivian Campbell (which was a major downgrade for me because he's an F'ing lightweight). Today, these additions can seem disrespectful to the bands identity. And for the newcomer as well. John Sykes was used like that *twice* , once in Thin Lizzy and then in Whitesnake. His career was defined by it. Now barely anyone remembers Blue Murder. It's all about that Whitesnake album, and he was tossed away by the time it came out.

What an amazing song and the guitar solo by John Sykes is just on another level on the original studio version, it's just unfortunate that in this live version Phil was forgetting the lyrics because at this time he was so high on drugs at the time and it's such a great shame that the drugs killed him in the end, I'm actually gutted that I never got to see ThinLizzy live because at the time of when they were going up on till Phil's death I was only a very young child, but my Dad in his prime got to see them live three times back in the 1970's and 1980's and he told me they were superb live which is why I am devastated that I never got to see them live cause at the time I was only a baby and a young child at the time, and then Phil passed away, but it never stopped me being a big fan even till this day now that I am 44 years of age, I'm just saddened that I never got to see them live before Phil passed away.
