As some of you might know I started this creative ride as a card maker and I think as the new year is starting I am in a little bit of a reflective mood, as you will hear in the video! So I like to turn my hand to some card making with paint and I love doing these little small scale abstracts from time to time.

Here is the other card making video I mentioned in today's video: bit.ly/2MOPRmO and the second card in this small scale series is here: bit.ly/2Cp9jTz
greeting cards and VERY simple scrapbook pages is where i started, and now i don't do either really. i mostly art journal & make art cards/coins, and mixed media (which i want to do more of).
PS I work as a nurse aide (since 2004) and I've noticed a LOT of creative people are in the medical/science field, either as artists like us here in this community, or visual artists , as well as musicians. :) i almost think it's a way of exorcising ourselves of all the emotion we go through with patients/families, because we are SO much like sponges for all the emotion we are surrounded in at work. so art helps us DE-STRESS. :)
LOVE THIS PIECE by the way!!!!! TFS
Oh that is so interesting and such a great observation and very true. I love science but I think the thing I loved most about about being a scientist was the creative aspect and exploring, so it totally touched on my creative side too. 😍😘
I may not always like your art, but I adore you! I adore your honesty about what you're thinking/trying to accomplish. I'll keep watching, I do learn stuff, mostly being fearless even in fails! Thank you!!
Well, thanks! I am glad you like at least of some of what I share!
Making cards is great fun.
Oh it is isn't it Cathy!
This card is definitely my cuppa. Love it.
Glad you liked it!
You are upbeat, a good artist and a good teacher. I love your vids. Those are well done as well.
Thank you so much Christine, such a lovely thing to say!
This turned out lovely! 💜💜💜
Thank you and I am glad you liked it!
Loved hearing about your background....
Thanks Karla, I always feel a bit strange sharing non-arty stuff, it is something I want to do more of though, so I am glad you liked it!
Thanks for this creation. This is how I use my art, on cards. Happy New Year.
Glad you liked it. Happy new year!
Happy New Year Kim! always love your circles. thanks as always for sharing.
I just can't get away from them 😂😂 Thank you Theresa and a big Happy New Year to you too!
Happy New Year Kim , this is a lovely abstract card ,,, xx 🌼🌺🌸💞
big Happy New Year back to you too Anne! And I am glad you like the card!
I took accounting in my younger days. No art at all. I still consider myself a newbie after only doing art for about 8 years. By the way, Happy New Year. I don't make New Year's resolutions because I'm not good at keeping them. Keeps things simpler, and I don't get as stressed.
Isn't it interesting how so many of us come to art from different routes?! I love that! I think there is always something new to learn so we are all newbies, 😂 Like I was revisiting the subject of paper yesterday, doing some research, and there is just so much I don't know about it! Every time you dip your toe in you learn something else! Oh and I am with you on the resolutions, I don't do them either, just too much pressure! Big Happy New Year to you too!
Lovely artwork,,. Xx
Thank you Annie 🎨🎨💙
Fantastic!!!
Thank you! I am glad you liked it!
Thank you so much dearest Kim for sharing your beautiful art with us! You are always so pleasant and bubbly! Take care😉💕
Thank you Benita. I am glad you enjoyed it!
I LOVE ❤️💙💚 this card!
Love the circles on this. I was a card maker then scrapbooker then mixed media and art journaler and I have come full circle and although I still do everything I am loving doing cards again. So it is great to combine both.
Oh you are so right Sally. I love combining the art I do now with where I started with the card making. I love designing on that small scale. So many of us creative folks came via the papercraft route didn't we?!
Very nice
Thank you Karen!
It’s been lovely to see you grow so much this year and I’ve enjoyed all your inspiration over the last few months. So exciting to see that you’re almost at 10K!! I definitely think it deserves celebrating :) Love all the circle work on this card. You draw very neat circles! Xx
😘 Ahh thank you Ruth. I was really working and hoping to get to 10K around about now, well end of 2018, but this is totally close enough, and now I am nearly there I can't quite believe it 😂 Are you gonna do some stitchy videos this year?
Congratulation, as I'm sure you will reach your milestone soon. To celebrate, perhaps a gift of a piece of your artwork, be it one of these cards, or something else, would be awesome!
Thank you for the congrats and for the idea too! 🎨💜
I really love how the card turned out!! Love watching the process!!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I love your work Kim. You have a really engaging style and your art is beautiful. I’m quite new to your channel but looking out for your videos will be a new year resolution for me now. Thank you! Keep up the great work :)
Ahh thank you Jenny, that is so very kind of you to say and I am really looking forward to sharing with you this year!
Beautiful Kim! Your process is mesmerizing. Congrats on heading towards 10,000 subbies! Everyone should join you in Patreon too!
😘😘😘😘 Thank you Kim! And thank you for the Patreon shout out too! I am so pleased that you have been enjoying my posts over there as well! 10,000 here on YT?! I know it was my goal last year, but I can't actually believe I am almost there! 😂 Have a lovely rest of your day! 💜
Love this. It turned out beautifully!
Thank you Maria! I am so glad you liked it!

Beautiful abstract piece! Happy, Healthy and Creative New Year to you!
Thank you and a Big happy New Year to you too!
I love your work and I too started out card making. It's a lovely and crazy journey!
It most certainly is 😂😘 💜
What a lovely card, Kim! The abstract background with your doodles goes so well together :) I actually watched this video when it came out, but something happened and I didn´t have time to comment, LOL. I understand why you call it organic art. Tfs, hugs, Fia
Ahh thank you Fia, you are always so lovely to me. I am glad you get the organic thing! Hope you are having a nice week. 💙
Abstractly Beautifully Created
I love this
Thank you Angela!

Love the card - so glad you kept going, Kim!! Happy New Year! Jen xx
Thank you Jen and Happy New Year to you too!
I love this card Kim. I also like how the colors you used in the card match the colors of your apron and blouse in the inset pic.
Take care ~~rita
Oh yes! They must be my colors 😂🎨 Thank you Rita, I am really glad you liked it!
Kim, as I said on IG, I really love this card. It's beautiful. As for the giveaway at 10k, I'm sure many folks would love to have one of your fabulous art pieces. TFS and Happy New Year and the best to you in 2019. 😚💜❤
Ahh thanks Judy. I am so glad you like it and thank you for the giveaway suggestion too! I have totally lost the plot with instagram 😜 Hardly looked at it except to add the occasional post. Must do better this year! And I was doing so well in October at posting everyday! *sigh! I hope you had a lovely New Year and that 2019 is super amazing for you!
Lovely piece. When you start these pieces I can never see where you’re going with them but they always seem to turn out pleasing to the eye and interesting. I have never really tried abstract. I’m thinking of giving a go. Like you say what’s the worst that can happen. If you’re not doing much work for magazines now what are you doing with your work? Are you selling online? (I know I’m nosy). I’m sort of following a bit in your footsteps so I’m interested. Hope you have a great new year
Ha ha! That is exactly what I think when I start these pieces too! And then I have my fingers crossed that something comes out of it at the end 😜😂 OOo such a good question, perhaps I should do this as a film sometime? If I do make a video of the answer would you mind if I mention you and the question?
So well the short answer is that currently I earn an income through UA-cam, Patreon, online shops and commissions (which is mostly the magazine work at the moment). It isn't a big income so if you are employed keep the day job and build the other revenue streams around the job. But that is the short answer 😂😂 There are so many different routes you can take, and different revenues streams, like licensing, demoing, home workshops, travelling workshops, online workshops, gallery selling, working for manufacturers, working for retailers. But I think it is a good idea to not see any of them as a single 'end point' but see them all as part of a multifaceted revenue stream income if you want to be a freelance artist. You don't have to do all of them, but find a few that work for you and concentrate your energies on them. I hope that helps?
@@KimDellow Sure I don't mind if you mention me. Tell them to come and subscribe to my Channel. LOL. I am sending you a PM
Really fun techniques ... love this as a greeting card x
Thank you Julia, I am glad you enjoyed it!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
💚😘
I was drawn to this initially (not intuitively, lol) because I have just made New Year cards using Kraft & white cardstock. They seemed to please me (extremely rare) & recipients 'appeared to' like them. You never really know if it is politeness but hey, I'm ok with it.
So, coming back from my huge tangent, I also find abstract art so interesting (& much underrated, imho). Your "organically" created card is super! The hard lines of circles contrast brilliantly with the softness of the watered down acrylic. How do you go about "scribble writing"? Or is it literally just that? May I also ask, do you recommend Amsterdam acrylic paints? I have an opportunity to get a set of 20ml tubes, at a reduced price. Not sure if they are any better.
HUGE congratulations to you for such a leap in subbies. That's a great achievement in any time frame but in just over a year? Wow!! Kudos to you, Kim👏😁 I am now going to watch listed video & promise not to ramble on under that one😶. Tyfs, I hope 2019 is good to you (& to me, pleeeaase, hahaha)....😉😺🐾👋
I love the 'ramble' so feel free to keep it up 😂 💜 There is something about white and kraft together isn't there? I am a sucker for that combo in my card making. It falls in and out of fashion but I keep using it regardless 😂 So the scribble writing is just that, I let my hand go a bit loose and work over the page as if I am writing real words but do it a lot faster so that no actual words can be seen. I think if my calligraphy was a bit better and I had more patience I would actually write something there!
If you can get the Amsterdams at a good price I would definitely give them a go. They have now become one of my favourite study level acrylics and I reach for them a lot! I think for artist level work I still prefer the Liquitex and Golden paints.
And thank you! It has been an interesting ride here on UA-cam but I am looking forward to sharing more with you in 2019! And may it be an amazing year for you too! 💜🎨🖍🖌
Amazing :)
Thank you!
Interesting I am/was a biochemist in another life!
Hey, hey fellow scientist! 😃🔬
@@KimDellow hi!
I love art of all kind! I'm a volunteer paramedic and full time cook by trade but looove mixed media. You should send some of these out for your 10k mark! I just love you and would love to have my own Kim Dellow piece!
Oh wow! That is amazing! How did you get into being a paramedic? The closest I got was being a fire warden and first aider for one of the Universities I worked for but that would be nothing like being a paramedic. I love that you fill your time with three totally different experiences! Ahh thank you for the suggestion and the kind words too!
@@KimDellow My dad was an EMT and as scared as I was I just jumped right in. I volunteer a lot for the Special Olympics and a roller derby league. From one end of the spectrum to the other! Lol.
Oh that just sounds amazing! I am in awe! Thank you for sharing!
