Hi Susan you are very welcome. If you notice I’m refraining from judging although when I add another layer I might be looking to do more of what I like or cover those elements I don’t like- it will be quite a few more layers before I worry about composition though!
This is one of the best channels on UA-cam. Informative, inspiring, and totally enjoyable; Liz Ackerley's art-making is absolutely addictive!!!😀👍❤❤ 9:51
Thanks Anna I’ll be building up lots of layers and they will necessarily go into the wilderness for a while. I’ll be journaling frequently too. There’s something rather special about this subject and I’m drawn to their social history too so I’d like that to be part of them.
Yes it could be used just to play and explore asking the question ‘what if’ to push the mark making but it’s also a great way of starting paintings and getting the painting going! - something to respond to if you like!
Im new to your channel and loving it. your work is great. Im so glad im not the only one that gets paint on their clothes,im really good at that. Thankyou liz.🙂👍👍
Hi Andrea and welcome. Thank you so much for taking the time to message and for your positive comments. Paint on clothes is definitely an occupational challenge! I have clothes I change into but sometimes I forget and it doesn't end well!! Out and about when working on location I have started to think more carefully about the paints I use. I hope you continue to enjoy my channel and don't forget to check out my website too. And I have a number of online courses. You can see them all here: www.lizackerleyart.com/for-artists and if you sign up to my newsletter you won't miss you work/tickets/announcements. Best wishes Liz
What is your process for color selections? I have never studied art and the blending of colors and I enjoy working with things that are just pleasant to me and if they will be to others does pass my mind. Your movements are very graceful with very little hesitation on color change. Could you explain your approach? Thank you so much. You are so talented.
I post a lot of process videos and have shared quite a few about colour choice. If you have subscribed to my Chanel with notifications on then hopefully you won't miss them. You can search my videos to get the ones for a particular subject. WIth respect to colour, try this one: ua-cam.com/video/sYmZxbFCsTo/v-deo.html. but there are a number of others if you look at my playlists especially the studio and painting series ones. I hope that helps.
I think for me it’s the difference between being it rather than wishing it. To much thinking stands in my way & questions every. Being it leaves no head space available for that nagging dismissive voice. It’s delightful seeing you & your processes. We are very honoured to be aloud to see how & what you are doing 🤩 thank you xx
@@jdevereux9155 you are very welcome-I very much appreciate my following and feedback on here- it’s great to be able to have these conversations with you x
Hi there I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. I enjoyed creating it too. Yes with small panels it’s so easy to get to fiddly so it’s an attempt to help with that. Moving forward I will probably work on them individually but I guess it depends!
@@LizAckerley I think what I really like about working on them that way is that not only can you turn the whole "cube" of them as you work but as they are individual panels they can also be turned on their own - perhaps not whilst you're working on them as that could get messy, but afterwards, as you're assessing them. Because of that, you really don't know all the possibilities until the session is over and you pull them apart - could make for some very interesting "surprises", and another means of not controlling the outcome at the beginning?
@@jillayne2263yes all of these ways of shaking things up can be really helpful. The treating them as a single is much like using tape- because you don’t know where the edges are there’s more room for surprise.
I'm really enjoying your Ramshackles project. This was a great video for how you get started. How did you decide on the Ramshackles? Do you have suggestions or prompts for figuring out a subject?
Hi Denise I’m so glad you are enjoying the Ramshackles series - funnily enough I was starting to wonder whether collectors would want to buy work about this subject! I’m not sure if you’ve seen the other videos I’ve produced about this subject- you can see them in the playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLnyTfaOwD3Ks2QHdXtmcLwvnaVgidEggO.html&si=NbzX8cGOTVR-1m6y They are great questions and I’ll try to create a video in the next couple of weeks covering those topics -it probably warrants more explanation than a couple of lines of writing. Hope you are subscribed with notifications on so you don’t miss it. 😊
Thank you, Liz! That’s completely understandable. I have been following along with your videos, and I’ve just subscribed to your newsletter. I really like your style and process! I would love to try it, but I’m struggling to find a subject that inspires me. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Thanks for your comment Christine these panels will change and evolve so they definitely won’t look much like they do now as they develop. The sides will be painted to connect in with the finished work, perhaps using one of the neutrals or something that harmonises with them but it’s too early to say what colour they will be.
Great video. This is where I would get stuck because I would worry about "ruining" any parts I like! Thank you for letting us in on your process.

Same here!! To use her words, I get too "Thinky".
@@ChristDied_PayingForYourSins I think we all do this unless we override with approaches to keep things playful.

Fantastic, I can't wait to see the next stage Liz, as it's always easy to get lost then.

Looking forward to seeing where this is going. 😊
Thanks Melinda - at the moment it’s just getting paint on the panels and play. Collage addition will help too, hopefully!
I like your use of different tools to make marks and textures. Super video.

Loved this, no kitchen tool is safe after this😄
Thanks Anita - ha no it certainly isn’t!
