Oh my gosh! I have been in such a slump, watching all kinds of videos, even yours, and just not being able to get going on anything. I don’t have the right supplies, I can’t think of a color scheme, even when you present one I don’t have those colors or things that are close to them. I just haven’t been able to create anything. So when I saw this video, I thought, I could do that! So I made some little 2 x 2 squares and on the second one, it said make a mark you’ve never made before. I stumbled into making a mark that I absolutely love!! It got me so excited to make art again! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!❤
I don’t have a deck of prompts, but I do have a couple of things I fall back on when I get stuck. 1) set a timer for 15-20 minutes, and collage only with scraps; I have a specific journal for this, and I usually fill that faster than any of my other journals. 2) Another thing I do is to pull three colours to use as a modified primary colour palette. For example. I use pink instead of red, or instead of blue I use purple, instead of yellow I use gold, and then I get to mixing them and see what other colours I can make with them. I will sometimes just swatch them out in my journal or I might even do some kind of simple blends and gradients with the new colours- but the trick is to always make sure to have either all cool or all warm colours so that it doesn’t make mud. Quite often this colour mixing exercise sparks an idea and then I just go with it, but even if it doesn’t I still like to play with the colours until I’m finished and then I get to have a new page in my swatch journal.
* use plastic wrap over wet paint; let it dry * use drops of alcohol (70% or more) These two prompts will create very different textures but also very unexpected results! As always, I love your experimentation, guidance and inspiration!🙏🧡💙💛💚❤️
thick and thin lines long and short lines add stripes botanicals tiny rainbows use bright yellow paint with anything but the brush add coloured pencil/woodies/inktense scratch the surface with the end of a brush / stick use earth tones /neutrals only add zig zags / triangles add neon colours paint with a feather / leaf / twig i look forward to building a set of prompts to explore different ideas and techniques. thanks for sharing
I love to use blank or stamped tissue paper because it makes a cool texture with watercolors and the Mod Podge gives you a surface that is more forgiving if you want to wipe off some color. Also, with stamped tissue, you already have a prompt! I love doing resists too. My favorite is crayon and watercolor. 😊
I typed up your list of prompts and added some of my own (and will borrow some of the ones that people have listed below!), and had a lovely day creating six pieces, postcard size, all from the same color palette but using different prompts (overlapping circles, dots, off-center focus, etc) and really felt inspired and creative. five of the six pieces ended up making me happy (and the sixth one will bravely give up its blank side for testing things). I will add to the list of prompts as I go along (and watch more of your videos!). Thanks for a tip that gave me hours of inspiration!
How lovely to have prompt cards. Great ideas and you already have so many. I sometimes just look outside pick up 2 things I see 1st and then use that to paint. Collect pebbles when gone to any beach and paint those or leaves from walks I've been on See sky and what shape do I see work with that shape to create a piece or abstract art Have list of quotes that inspire me so use those as a pickup word or words from it and create something from that Sometimes when I can't think of anything then I look at the clothes I am wearing and choose just those colours to put on paper and see what I come up with.
You have struck a spark in me!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills and talents. I am just in love with your joy and enthusiasm!!! Again thank you for giving me this creative pleasure.
Hello Denise, love your channel, your work, you and your passion! Looking forward to making some prompt cards this way, thank you. 💖 I can add 2 prompts I love... use a squeegee, & dry brush lightly over raised paint that has dried ~ a happy accident I found that gives a 2 tone effect 😊
Thanks so much for this. I had thought of making some prompt cards for my art making, but needed some ideas beyond the basics. So I put prompt cards into a UA-cam search and up you popped. Just the job, with some great ideas. I suspect your list will generate some more ideas for me too. You are just SO creative!
This is a great idea. I cut paper strips and put a prompt on one side in pink and a prompt on the other side in green. My plan is to pull 5 and match the colors...all pink or all green.
Colored sides is a great idea! I have another video coming out soon where I took this idea and cut up old art for my cards. Those are my favorite now. I love that you get excited too!! 😊😊😊
I use the Sketchbook Idea generator by Jennifer Orkin Lewis sometimes. I bought the meditation deck but have not used it as of yet. I also like the book Color Harmony for Artists by Ana Victoria Calderon. Now I am inspired to possibly make my own. Or maybe you should create and market some!
I love Watchung you. You have been inspiring..I have never been able to do an art challenge ever...I have tried and tried and I get stuck..but I will try this...
Oooh I was just thinking that I have some extra watercolor post cards that I don't know what to do with and this will be perfect! Thanks for the idea 🥰
I have an older Fiskars SureCut Portable Paper Trimmer, 12 Inch Cut - amzn.to/3p1hAc0 and i love it because you can replace the blade easily with replacement blades.

Oh yay!! I love the prompt cards for when I get stuck!! So glad that worked for you too! 🥰🥰🥰
Love the video. For a prompt use anything but a paint brush. Like a toothbrush, kitchen sponge, even a leaf.
Good ones!! Thank you! ☺️

Another great one

I love this idea! What kind of paper cutter do you have? I have been working on a series of smalls, and cutting with scissors is sometimes wonky...lol
I have an older Fiskars SureCut Portable Paper Trimmer, 12 Inch Cut - amzn.to/3p1hAc0
and i love it because you can replace the blade easily with replacement blades.
Do some scratching into a painted area to make marks by removing color.
Good one! Thank you! ☺️
Use a stencil, or stamp an image
Oooh! Good ones. Thank you! ☺️
Use rainbow colours
Ooh! Good one! Thank you! ☺️
