I'm 73 and I can say that I have listened to his music from when I began hearing him in the seventies. Now there are many many very talented singers out there but John Denver's voice has a quality that gives me the most comfort when I listen to him. We lost him about 25 years ago and I do wonder how much more music he would have created. But I'm very thankful that he did leave so much for the us to have since and for all the generations ahead of us.

How much music would Denver had created? I've never thought of that question. We lost him too soon, I was a kid when he had passed. I honour his music, and always. Today's music.. 😑 . His lyrics & several musicians and artists, their tune will always continue to transcend.

Wow it’s so strange reading the comments, I was just listening to John Denver’s cd whilst driving and felt a deep sadness and strange sense of kindred spirit with his words and I wondered if some of us on this earth are almost born sad, in the sense that we live with a deep emotional sense of something I can’t explain and johns music kind of explains it in words? When I listen to his voice and the words I could cry and have felt that way all my life. Your comments make me feel like I belong to a group of people who share this innate emotion. It’s good to know.

Amen!!!! I sit here today and tears are running down my face, my brother passed away Dec.24th and lived alone, after not seeing or hearing anything from him by Christmas day, we found him dead, massive heart attack at the age of 57. He was all alone and that is part of what is killing me. The strange thing is everyone thought that he looked sooo much like John!!! And the truth is...he did!!!! His friends and family always said how much he resembled and had the same characteristic's as John. They played his music at calling hours in tribute!!! He was a man of genuine love and it still doesn't seem real. I don't think it ever will. I am listening to John Denver's music today in remembrance of my Dear brother. May he know that he will never be forgotten!!! He had a soul and love like you could not imagine!!

bb lang Must agree also. Back to the day of great song writers and singers...so rare and too sad we don't seem to have this anymore. But at least we have a legacy recorded of that era that 40 years later we all still want to hear this and other great songs. He died way too young. Miss you Mr. Denver.

I was about 12, maybe 13. Standing in the middle of Disneyland in California. This song came across the speakers in the park and I froze. I listened to the melody and it consumed me. Too young to completely understand the lyrics, I still got the message. To this day, more than 40 years later, it remains one of my favorite songs. Because of John Denver, I learned to play the guitar. It is also because of him that I am an airplane pilot. I only have a few heroes. He is one of them.

This man IMO was a genius.
Lyrically, one of the best in history.
EG "I'm sorry for the way things are in China" is a wonderful line - I presume he means he's sorry about everything, even things which are outside his control.
"And I expect to hear from you almost anytime", another great line, more a plea than a statement.
It's such a moving song, I adore it.
    RIP John.

He was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the decade and one of its best-selling artists.[1] By 1974, he was firmly established as America's best-selling performer, and AllMusic has described Denver as "among the most beloved entertainers of his era (wickipedia)

I dont know if you could say Underrated, yeah he wasn't flashy in the celebrity spotlight maybe, but he had a net worth of 60 million. I mean that doesn't stack up to today's celebrity net worth but in his prime he wasn't hurting I dont think.I may be wrong there though, he had a lot of drama around marriage and some financial turmoil as I now recall. The album sales the same thing nothing compared to now, but today's so called musicians rack up a lot of sales cause their albums are available everywhere in so many formats in John's day as you know we had to wait till the record shop had copies(limited). In small towns especially you were lucky to own a copy of a new record cause of such limited stock. Now you can buy albums from anywhere as long as you have a computer. That doesn't mean anything though take Beyonce she sold more than John in just Destiny Child sales, now those CD's are probably coasters at parties, while Johns Music is valued time and time again.

Especially with the lines, "I'm sorry for the way things are in China. I'm sorry things ain't what they used to be." Who'd ever thought people would be listening to this song, during the unfortunate corona virus crisis, is beyond me.

@@thisguyhere6641 Yes in the chorus..the first and second lines play off of each other. He has no control over China. He is desperate. This is a very well crafted lyrical tune. I would stand up to anything John Prine, Or Gordon Lightfoot did.

I've had this song running through my head since I lost my husband last week. While not all the lyrics are applicable, some are.
So I sat here, listened to it and started crying.
