    Not to detract from Nicko's stickmanship, let's take a moment to remember the incomparable and brilliant Clive Burr on drums for the first 3 Maiden albums. RIP fella.

      @@collinkenney4573 Agreed. Both drummers are unique in their own styles. Clive was naturally gifted & so precise yet Nicko Mc B is more emotionally attached to his kit and plays to the mood of the music in a haphazard sort of way! But both styles work. I'll STFU now. LOL. 🤪

      Nicko is a great drummer... but Clive stood out. I'm not a drummer and don't really pay attention to drums much, but I do have a couple favourite drummers that really stand out to my ears. Clive was definitely one of them, Gar Samuelson from Megadeth and Danny Carey from Tool are on that list too. There's just something about their playing that really catches me. And as a non drummer with little interest in the instrument, that's the highest honour I can give.

    2 Minutes to Midnight, as stated below, is about the Doomsday Clock and how close it got to the potential for nuclear war/disaster. The song is a commentary and condemnation of the industrial war complex. "To kill the unborn in the womb" is literally condemning these forces for the potential to wipe out whole generations before they could be born. Gruesome lyrics, but nuclear war is a grim subject. Great reaction as always, Kira! Have a wonderful day!

      Metal in the 70s and 80s, particularly British metal, was very heavily influenced by war and the threat of war: people like Ozzy and Lemmy grew up playing in bombed out ruins from the Blitz, and then the world went quickly into the Cold War, with the looming threat every day of nuclear war. It has an impact on a musician for sure.

      I think part of that is because those of us in the Continental USA have not had to face full on war in our land and we didn't grow up in the aftermath of WWII like our European kindred did.
      That definitely gives us a different perspective. The closest we've had was the attack on the World Trade Towers in New York.

    • @peterbelanger4094
      @peterbelanger4094 2 роки тому +3

      @@Scytian1 Devastating war could result from the disagreement over the "climate crisis", but not from the actual 'crisis', that doesn't really exist. They are just over dramatizing natural events that have been happening since the dawn of time. People with power are just using the so called 'crisis' to increase their power. Eventually they will go too far, and then it will be midnight.
      The only threat from "climate change" is the tyranny the eco-fascists will impose upon those who do not worship their cult.
      "To kill the unborn in the womb"?
      Are you sure Iron Maiden wasn't talking about Democrats? They are all about destruction.

    Bassist Steve Harris being the main songwriter on a bulk of Maiden's songs give them a distinct sound... the combo w/ Harris & guitarist Dave Murray created that delivery - Harris plays the bass and has the melodies, then Murray has to match w/ those ideas w/ his guitar and leads.
    Songs that guitarist Adrian Smith writes r based on his riffs... Generally, the band gets together and puts the song ideas together by jamming and have to 'maiden-ize' the arrangement until a final version is done... lyrics usually come from Harris and Bruce Dickinson (Adrian Smith did write lyrics for his songs on the 'Somewhere in time' album)

    If you are going to react to Rime of the Ancient Mariner you might consider reading the poem of the same name upon which it is based, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Coleridge also wrote a (much shorter) poem called Kubla Khan which was the basis for the song Xanadu by Rush.

    The first time I ever heard Iron Maiden (besides hearing Run to the Hills on radio) was actually hearing 2 Minutes to Midnight on Guitar Hero, and it remains one of my fave Maiden tracks. Bruce is actually nicknamed "The Human Air Raid Siren" partially thanks to Aces High, which I think is an accurate name.
    I'd love to see you react to Pagan Altar. They're a bit of a forgotten gem of the NWOBHM 80s era. They're on the heavier and darker side like Sabbath, but they still definitely have a more evolved sound the way bands like Maiden do. I think you'd really like the songs "Pagan Altar" or "Judgement of the Dead"

    The first two Maiden albums are where it's at. I love the later stuff but those two were special. There's a darker vibe that's just awesome. Even Strange World is something I never get tired of. And, they made it cool to be a metalhead playing a Strat. You really can hear the Hendrix influence in a lot of Dave Murray's solos.

    I believe you'll like both the No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark eras (maybe a bit of Seventh son of a seventh son, but less) because it's the time Bruce's vocal gets the closer to Paul Di'anno with that rough approach! My recommendation would be Holy smoke, Mother Russia, The assassin, Be quick or be dead and Judas be my guide
    They also released a new album 2 weeks ago, you should give it a try!
    For the bass, Steve Harris (the bassist) is a living legend, he also composed about 85% of the Maiden songs!
    The prog part was developed during their career, late albums got more of that vibe, more than the earlier ones
    You'll should also listen to Helloween, the Andi Deris Era, with that rougher vocals!

    • @jasperdevries1726
      @jasperdevries1726 2 роки тому +1

    It took me a while to realize you weren't cutting the songs up into little bits. Thank you! Murders In the Rue Morgue is SO awesome. I love the punky vibe that Paul Di'Anno brought to the band. No hate to Bruce Dickinson, "his" Maiden is awesome as well, but that vibe the first two albums had is unbeatable. I just love Paul's vocals so damn much! I find myself listening to them more than any other Maiden album. Same thing with AC/DC! Bon Scott had such a vocal range and he brought flavor to the band in a way that Brian never could. AC/DC was changing shit up when Bon was in the band, simply because they could. Brian can't sing, so it is what it is.

    A band that you absolutely should check out would be "Ulver"
    Ulver started off as a Black Metal band and pioneered the entire genre of Black Metal.Their debut album"Bergtatt" is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt creations in Black Metal and Metal as a whole.
    Ulver later changed into an electronica band.Their electronic stuff is amazing as well.But for me,their Black Metal stuff is untouchable.
    Here are some awesome songs from both the Ulver eras-
    •Ulver(Black Metal)-I troldskog faren vild,In di Fjeldkamarene
    •Ulver(Electronica)-Russian doll,Nemoralia
    "Bergtatt" is the one of the best beginner Black Metal albums.
    Beautiful acoustic melodies and clean singing.It is one of those records that everyone should listen to once in their life.
    Also,an album that I would recommend from Ulver's electronic catalogue would be"The Assassination of Julias Ceasar". I am not a big electronica guy,but this album is quite possibly the greatest electronica album ever.

    Part of the Maiden love is from watching them live. I am not sure if I recall seeing yo react to a live performance but I think it helps build an affinity for them. Oh and of course you love the bass, because Steve Harris is an iconic bassist. They do have a distinct sound and its the galloping bass and three guitars that all join in on leads. Now start making Ronnie James Dio a regular reaction!
