Lemmy had an incredible knowledge of war history from a “this is senseless and must never happen again” perspective. He was an incredible musician, songwriter and, according to all those who knew him, a surprisingly sound human being. There will only ever be one like him. There’s a documentary film about him that is worth checking as well!
@@lilyjenkins6274 Blackheart, what you think of me? Blackheart, what you wanna believe? The dark side's all you want to see.. The man in his own words...
Apparently 1916 is a maligned Motorhead album but it's probably my favorite of theirs. And 1916 as a song is just crushing, Lemmy's sad delivery completely sells the story of these kids with dreams of glory who only ended up dead in the mud
To me it also always worked as a double meaning about the kids that got soldiers of rock'n'roll back in the day and burned out so young while Lemmy had to watch them fade, leaving him one of the last veterans still in the trenches.
"Maligned" would not be the right word. It's too "recent" to be fully appreciated by purists, and some also took offence that it was released on a major label - a sentiment that took on whole new heights with the definitely maligned followup "March or die" (another great album, but anathema to purists) - after which Motörhead returned to the smaller, more "metal" labels. "1916" was however a commercial success at the time, considered to be a great return to form after "Rock'n'roll", the latter album considered relatively uninspired by most. And to this day, "1916" remains a highly appreciated album by Motörhead aficionados, a cult favorite if you will.
Alice Cooper once said that Lem was one of the smartest guys he ever met because all he did was take speed and read. He was an expert on military history. Your reax to 1916 confirms what a tremendous, unique artist he was, one who still does not receive the appreciation he deserves from the music community.
Put another way. A living legend said a legend no longer with us was one of the smartest guys he ever met. Great reactions and to be honest as big a Motorhead fan as I am, Killed by Death just does not do it for me.
Killed by Death featured a new guitar lineup. Fast Eddie on Overkill and Bomber, Phil Campbell and Wursel on Killed by Death. So glad you included 1916. Lemmy always had an ear for a slow song. Looking forward to you hearing Lemmy when he was with Hawkwind.
Not only does 1916 come across as so heartfelt it also seems like a track that could have been sung on the battlefield in 1916. There is a real classic instrumentation and the Simplicity of it and it's Ernest delivery makes it feel timeless.
The first 5 albums Motorhead, Overkill, Bomber, Ace of spades and Iron fist are my favorites because its the original line up, Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke and Philthy Animal Taylor. RIP boys
@@herrglad9726 saw the classic line up 15 times. Saw them 3 times on the Bomber tour because they couldn’t fit the whole bomber rig in to my hometown venue
Killed by Death should really be watched along with the rather awesome official video where Lemmy is doing some really, well Lemmy-ish things (no spoilers)!
The 'I feel like the speed really lends itself to their music' followed by 1916 and the near-religious experience that comes with it is pure cinematography. 'Don't let daddy kiss me' is another song that punches you in the gut for a totally different reason to their normal music, and shows Lem's lyrical genius and how immense a person he was in reality that he'd drop the gritty façade to write a song about what he felt to be an extremely important issue purely BECAUSE he felt so strongly about it.
When Lemmy writes a ballad, watch out.. cause he's not playin.. 1916 and "Dont Let Daddy Kiss Me" are 2 songs of theirs that just gut you.. I cant even listen to the latter it's that sad. Lemmy has a lyrical skill that cuts to the bone.. a very articulate and well read guy.. he knows how to turn a phrase and tell a story.
One thing about Lemmy that people don't seem to notice as much as they should. When he wanted to, he could write songs that both could and would BREAK someone.
@notwastd Yes they really were. only 10 million albums sold world-wide. That's absolutely nothing compared to equally big bands like Judas priest or Dio. And even more so when you realize that motörhead is the godfathers of thrash and speed metal. No one sounded as fast and dirty as motörhead in the mid to late 70's
@notwastd that's the dumbest thing I've ever read. Sales are irrelevant? How about concert attendance and size of venues? Irrelevant, too? The band basically is recognized for one song and 99.9% of those people couldn't name another song on that album.
Yes that's something Lemmy complained about in his Lemmy way. The merch sales were through the roof however. Nearly every rocker and non rockers had that T shirt.
I think you would like the song We Are The Road Crew by Motorhead, it was written in honor of their road crew because of their back to back touring schedule.
Good call, an absolute banger of a track and one of my favourites. The live version from No Sleep Till Hammersmith is an absolute sledgehammer of a track.
Since you mentioned lesser hits, i strongly recommend you to check out the Another Perfect Day album. It was the first real change in Motörhead's sound and "genre", and diehard fans truly despised it then. But i'm sure you will like it a lot, as almost every one of us does today.
One day, around 2006, I went to a store, where you could listen to the first 30s of the songs on albums. I thought "hum, motorhead, I have already seen that name, let's see what it is", picked up the album "kiss of death", fell in love with the band, and bought it immediately, the first album I bought in my adult life, and since then, they have been my favorite band. There is not a single motorhead song I dislike. Not one. On their whole career, which is quite impressive. Like, I really enjoy Iron Maiden, but there are still some of their songs that are less good than others and that I don't really like. Not the case with motorhead. And yeah, in all of that, "another perfect day" is one of my favorite album, if not the one.
I was lucky enough to see them Liverpool Royal Court theatre 1983, I was not sure about the album to begin with but it is one that grows on you, love it now
It's such a good album. I mean Dancing on your grave, Shine and Back at the funny farm are up there amongst the best Motörhead songs. Plus you don't hear those everywhere so they still sound fresh.
I just want to say that I appreciate that when you do the skips in the music for copyright, that they're always flowing. like if the cut was done on the downbeat, the next part starts on the upbeat, making it not seem so jarring and it keeps the flow of the track going!
You need to listen to their 1983 album "Another Perfect Day". It features Brian Robertson who had come from Thin Lizzy. Many fans feared it would be a much softer and more gentle album than the "Fast" Eddie Clarke era ones, however it is properly hard and heavy with some excellent songs on it. Check out the title track or "Back at the Funny Farm" but the whole album is really very good.
If you like the fast paced Motörhead, here are some good recommendations: "Going To Brazil", "Rock Out" and "Thunder & Lightning" (this one is from their last album - it proofs, Lemmy lost nothing over the years and still was at 110% even shortly before his death).
That part you mentioned about the music cutting out and just the vocals being heard, followed by the return of the music: we musicians call that a 'Stop'. : )
The Motörhead live appearance 2004 in Düsseldorf/Germany (Stage Fright DVD) is a pretty flawless one. A video reaction worth are the first two songs "Dr. Rock" and "Stay Clean" followed by the grand final "Overkill". You can find them on UA-cam uploaded by someone who put "Live Full-HD" behind the songs. Check them out!
Like a lot of Gen Y’s I learned of Motörhead via Metallica’s covers of “Overkill”, “Damage Case”, “Stone Dead Forever” and “Too Late Too Late” from Garage Inc. What a band.
"1916": since 1991 proving that heavy and noisy do not need to go together. I got the vinyl back then, when I was 17 and I could not understand most of the lyrics. My English listening skills were not much back then and the album did not come with a lyrics insert. As you say, the instruments already tell the story, but I wanted to know it all. There was no Internet in those days, so eventually I put the song on cassette tape and kept going back and forth trying to recognize the words, looking them up in the bilingual dictionary, and writing them down. I did not get every single thing correct, as I can now, but I finally could sing along and understand what was going on. Chills to this day every time this one comes on in my playlists. I love the rest of the album as well, great songs like "The one to sing the blues", "Angel City", "No voices in the sky", "I'm so bad (baby I don't care)" and, one of my favorites, "Going to Brazil" (which I would listen to at the beginning of every yearly flight I took from the US to go down visit my folks in Brazil). There's another weird song on that album: "Nightmare the Dreamtime". Weirder than "1916", for sure. :-)
In the fall of 1984 (yes I'm old) my brother and I saw MotorHead at the Trocadaro in Philadelphia (built in 1925). Towards the end of there set it looked as though it was snowing on stage, but it was bits of plaster falling from the ceiling. They were shaking them out of their hair during the encore. The show was on a Friday Night and my ears didn't stop ringing until Sunday morning. 👍 cheers
Hey Kira! Since you liked the faster songs and long guitar solos, it may be time for more Megadeth :) try Hangar 18 and My Last Words, particularly for the solos!
Kira, listen to the songs from Ozzy's solo career and I'm already suggesting his first composition, called Goodbye to Romance, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The song portrays a difficult time in Ozzy's life and was recorded in 1980, at that time in 1977, Ozzy lost his father, went into such a severe depression that he started taking more drugs than usual and in 1979 it reached a point where that not even the members of Black Sabbath could stand , despite the fact that everyone in the band was drugged, but in the case of Ozzy it was beyond the limit and he didn't go to rehearsals anymore, which resulted in his resignation and the music itself would be a message for the old band and would also show some of the insecurity in his new life project. .
*UR GONNA FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG SO HEAR ME OUT! Ozzy and Lemmy did a song together called I ain’t no nice guy. It’s not a fast paced thriller by any means but it slaps, u gotta check it out
I surely have some picks for the next Motörhead! My first one would be Till the End. It's one of the tracks of their last album, and although it's not the last track (that would be either a cover of Sympathy for the Devil or the original When the sky comes looking for you), it is for sure the farewell for the Godfather of heavy metal Lemmy. My second would be Love me Forever. It's another sad song, but a lot more rougher than 1916 (which is from the same album). My third recommendation would be Heroes, it's a David Bowie cover, and amazing. Lemmy loved to cover songs, having made from Rolling Stones to Bowie, from Sex Pistols to Metallica, and Iron Maiden and Ozzy as well. Fourth would be Hellraiser, he composed it with Ozzy and Zakk Wylde, Ozzy released his version first, and then Lemmy (they were friends, and Lemmy composed some songs in Ozzy's albums, and Ozzy sung in a track from Motorhead: I ain't no nice guy). I either suggest the original version from Motörhead, or the one Ozzy released recently combining both his and Lemmy's version. And last not least, two songs from The World is Yours, their album from 2010: Born to Lose, a more traditional approach for Motörhead, and Brotherhood of Man, one of the heaviest and darkest songs from the band. (I could say even more, like Born to Raise Hell, Orgasmatron, Iron Horse and Bomber, but I believe it would be too much for a single time) Great video as always!
oh yeah I remember being so excited buying the 12" vinyl of the Overkill and Bomber albums and playing them back at home, some really great tracks on here. I saw them live 3 times during this period and with this lineup; classic rock n roll
Kira, I LOVED that you got the Motorhead goosebumps! They have been my favourite band since I saw them on the 1916 tour in what might as well have been 1916! (1991). They were just awesome. Lemmy's stage presence was god-like. You're spot-on about Killed By Death. It's a radio track. You've already done Overkill (Lemmy's favourite Motorhead song, and mine!) but I would totally back suggestions made in the comments for Stay Clean (you will love the bass solo!) and Orgasmatron (which is ... different 😉). Another early bluesy but fast fave which I think you'll like is Love Me Like a Reptile (another nice bass solo). For a solid, groovy, mid-tempo one try Keep Us On The Road and for a slow n 'shexshy' one try Iron Horse. Both from their second album, 'Motorhead'. Have fun! 😀 I'm also a total nut-job fan of Hawkwind, Lemmy's band before Motorhead, if you want ideas for them. Also AMAZING!
Fun Fact: Lemmy lived in the same 2 bedroom apartment a block off the Sunset Strip and the Whiskey A Go-Go nightclub since moving to the US. The club has changed a lot since the early 80s but there's still a seat reserved for Lemmy at the far end of the bar.
Thank you for sharing more Motorhead this band is amazing not many react to them. Lemmy is Motorhead and Motorhead is Lemmy, a honest man. long live Motorhead and long live Rock n Roll. ( a few of my fav :D : Stay clean, bomber, too late too late , chase is better than the catch , God was never on your side. many more!!)
1916 is a truely beautiful and emotional track. I’ve made a habit of listening to it every Anzac Day before I get up. Lemmy did a stunning cover of “Stand By Me” that you should check out.
snake bite love was my favorite from motorhead which is odd because it wasnt their most loved album. songs like night side, assassin, and dead and gone are my personal favorites. dead and gone is another heartfelt and emotional song that isn't the norm for them. love the swans mention too totally agree with you there.
Motörhead is one of those few unique bands that never deviated from their style. Change is sometimes good, but not in the case of Motörhead. They always stayed the same. And thank God for that. They put out ass kicking music right up till the passing of Lemmy. RIP...
try make a bigger video about Motorhead! They are true rock´n´roll legends,Lemmy was an epic songwriter, and what´s even more important for me,he was an extremly honest man! And his lyrics..that a chapter for itself..can you find some more heartbreaking text as "1916" ( I don´t)? It will be sure an interesting video and if you make it,i definitively come back to look at it! Good job Kira !
Great reaction. Love how much fun you have listening to new music. If I may make a suggestion, if you do another Motörhead reaction, please react to The Game. It was my introduction to them, and it still kicks ass.
Great you liked 1916. Sadly Lemmy is often reduced to his fun rock'n'roll lyrics and tracks. But if you want to discover some more of his other side, check out the songs I ain't no nice guy, Love me forever and Don't let daddy kiss me. At least in my environment, Killed by Death became a bit of a commemorative song after Lemmy passed on - might be a reason why it's been played so much.
"I'm not saying they shouldn't change, but well, I like when they're short and fast", proceed to listen to 1916 : "I've never been so speechless" Yup. Lemmy is god. And motorhead has incredible slow songs. "Dead and gone", "just caus' you've got the power"...
If you're a Lemmy fan, which you seem to be, you should check out The Head Cat... Lemmy's rockabilly band. They played a lot of 50s rockabilly covers like Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Buddy Holly.
lemmy wrote many deep songs, he had an attitude, and spoke his mind, another great song is 'no religion', or orgasmatron. also killed by death wa son the album'' rock n roll'
The best way to consume Motorhead is live, particularly the Stage Fright DVD. :) - ua-cam.com/video/30kAX4gMbfg/v-deo.html Favourite tracks? I've always loved Shine, from the Another Perfect Day album and also Stay Clean.
If you're into listening to songs with Lemmy Killmister playing on them check out the Hawkwind hit Silver Machine which features Lemmy Killmiser on both bass and vocals
A lot of what you hear in Mötorhead is bass, every now and then Lemmy does a short bass solo, Mötorhead was good at making the bass and guitar almost meld together
I'm an old school rocker, but I've recently discovered Nightwish, a band I've known about for years was never too keen on. But that was when Tarja was the lead singer. The Floor Jansen Nightwish is so awesome. You have to react to Wacken 2013 performance. Note this is just about a year, give or take a couple months, after Floor joined the band. She takes those songs and slays them, they are now hers. Absolutely one of the greatest live metal performances ever. Just tossing that out there to help you out. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. Peace!

For the next Motörhead video you should try Stay Clean, Iron Horse, and R.A.M.O.N.E.S.
(I could say even more, like Born to Raise Hell, Orgasmatron, Iron Horse and Bomber, but I believe it would be too much for a single time)
Great video as always!
1st saw Motorhead in 1978, Caird Hall Dundee (Scotland), ears are still ringing today... so loud.
When it comes to Motörhead and slow songs, you should check out 'Metropolis', another great and classic tune.
Lemmy was also amazing, when playing with Hawkwind!
oh yeah I remember being so excited buying the 12" vinyl of the Overkill and Bomber albums and playing them back at home, some really great tracks on here.
"Killed By Death" has Bon Scott-era AC/DC vibes...
another band that i reacted to (coming up soon in future weeks) reminded me of ACDC ...
Hi Kira. Love your videos. Watch them as soon they come out. Love your personality. Keep up the good work.
I just like the fact that ths is a Motorhead reaction that's not Ace Of Spades.
I really like the way you enjoy music...Hard Rock, Heavy Rock, Punk Rock? Damn, it's music.
Can you do a deep-dive into X-Ray Spex? You did their song "Oh Bondage! Up yours" and you loved it!
For a more energetic, faster and heavier Motörhead track check out Sacrifice. It's fucking great!
How can you not listen to the lyrics?Motörhead has some of the best lyrics.
I turn 57 this year. Motorhead is Rock and Roll.
RIP Lemmy
Great reaction. Love how much fun you have listening to new music.
If I may make a suggestion, if you do another Motörhead reaction, please react to The Game. It was my introduction to them, and it still kicks ass.
'1916' may just have the single most affecting, beautiful and utterly horrifying set of lyrics in rock history.
Definitely please listen to Hawkwind at some point. They're my favorites, ever.
You Should Check out Pantera! They Rescued Heavy Metal in the 90s!
1916 gets me every time - welling up now just hearing bits of it.
Lemmy...tears falling😔❤
Great you liked 1916. Sadly Lemmy is often reduced to his fun rock'n'roll lyrics and tracks. But if you want to discover some more of his other side, check out the songs I ain't no nice guy, Love me forever and Don't let daddy kiss me.

Its good you are being honest, Keep it up
At least in my environment, Killed by Death became a bit of a commemorative song after Lemmy passed on - might be a reason why it's been played so much.
the live no sleep at all version sounds much better
Wow! I didn't expect to shed tears to a Motorhead song.
I like this song....and reaction this girl. Motorhead my favorite
metal heavy group.
Some great choices there! 1916 is so haunting.
Over The Top has always been a favourite of mine. Damage Case was a nice pick.
"I'm not saying they shouldn't change, but well, I like when they're short and fast", proceed to listen to 1916 : "I've never been so speechless"
Yup.
Can you imagine a musical or a project gathering or blending Beach Boys, Status Quo, Ramones and Motorhead!? Wild thing!
The best way to consume Motorhead is live, particularly the Stage Fright DVD. :) - ua-cam.com/video/30kAX4gMbfg/v-deo.html
Favourite tracks? I've always loved Shine, from the Another Perfect Day album and also Stay Clean.
If you're into listening to songs with Lemmy Killmister playing on them check out the Hawkwind hit Silver Machine which features Lemmy Killmiser on both bass and vocals
Amazing! Motorhead define my Teens and twenties more then any band. Still make me move. Sharpshooter has to be my favourite track!
Iron Fist or the live version of We Are The Road Crew (no sleep till hammersmith)
Watching Motörhead was one of the greatest nights of my life
A lot of what you hear in Mötorhead is bass, every now and then Lemmy does a short bass solo, Mötorhead was good at making the bass and guitar almost meld together
The mighty Motorhead never disappoint, incredible band 🤘🤘🤘
Interesting fact Lemmy wrote mama I'm coming home by Ozzy
Motörhead has always been my favorite band and I love your smiths shirt
Hello. Long time listener, first time caller.
You should check out the Doom metal genre. Especially the band Candlemass.
On Killed by Death, it's one of those songs everyone's heard and kinda likes. But its job is to bring the masses to the real Motorhead 😉
Since you liked 1916, I think you'd like their songs "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me" and "I Ain't No Nice Guy", the latter of which features Ozzy Osbourne.
Seen Motorhead in concert 1980 Carlisle, Cumbria England.
Peace!
Ulver-I troldskog faren vild
Absolutely amazing Black Metal.
Check it out
