If you've ever dreamed about having a stainless steel Casio Royale AE-1200 then now is the time to make it happen! Thanks to Jonas over at Kranio Design there's now a beautiful stainless steel case for Casio's ever-popular world timer: the so-called Casio Royale AE-1200.
In this video I'll disassemble the AE-1200 and refit it with a gorgeous stainless steel case with a mineral crystal. I'll remove the dial, module, and button pushers from my donor watch and encase them into this sharp looking, all-metal bezel.
It's not cheap, but the quality is there and definitely worth the price. Check out his Instagram feed below and also leave some comments down below on what other Casio watches you would love to see rebuilt in solid stainless steel.

A black stainless steel with a inverted display and a black steel strap would be like the perfect John Wick like watch
No doubt this is an absurdly cool addition to any Royale fans collection, but man, any way you slice it, that $150 price tag is quite the chunk of change for a Royale upgrade. Not to say that it's overpriced or anything- on the contrary, It's definitely warranted, being that the guy designed and machined these all on his own. That being said, as much as I love the Royale, with how cheap you can buy metal cases for 5600s and similar variants from China, it's difficult to justify this of expense for me, at this point in time, at the very least.
Appreciate the video!
Metal cases for 5600 are actually only bezels, this is a complete casing.
@@watchmakerful I was gonna say the same thing. The bezel on a 5600 is just a facade that covers the module.
Definitely a product for absolute enthusiasts, that only a few will really appreciate. I'm personally surprised that there isn't a bigger market of custom cases for other watches. Think about 3rd party cases for the F-91W that would completely change the shape of the watch.
Saphire would've been nice too for the price.
This is a great product by a talented person but I just can't justify spending $150 on it. It's not that it's such an unfair price or anything, it's about my country's weak currency.
I never realised I needed a bronze AE-1200 until I saw this.
Yeah internet helps you realize a lot of things about your self (-:
Indeed. Me too.
Same here 🙋🏻♂️⌚️
How to order a steel case?
Would love to see a stainless steel casio F-91w. a proper upgrade to the ultimate daily watch. i’d buy that!
You and me both!
F-91w or A158w in stainless steel would be awesome!!!
The new A1000D (or A1000M) is pretty close to F-91W / A158 territory and comes with a metal case (and a hefty price tage that is...).
@@mirrimdimdom They have awfull glass and case shape is... how to say it... not exactly classic.
@@armero83 Agreed! A158 for sure, A168 would also be great!
The AE-1200 perfected. That's how Casio should've made the watch, with stainless steel case and less of those unnecessary words on the watch face
Just ordered mine. Definitely a labor of love. Can’t wait.
That is INCREDIBLE. Beautiful craftsmanship, 1 or so of a kind
There’s a heck of a lot of work involved in making these cases I shouldn’t wonder.
It may not be cheap but the price is fair and attainable for most who really want one I feel.
Great review 👍😎
Wow! An all - metal affordable with a matte finish, round pushers and a flat mineral crystal. For that price it's the total package!
One word: fantastic !
All i can say is WOW that is a really impressive mod. and it looked pretty straight forward, I have this Casio AE1200 and this would be a fantastic mod. for me to do, I need to start saving my pennies, keep up the good work, stay safe.
Looks absolutely stunning!
This blew my mind. Just wow. Worth every penny. The module on this watch deserves that case. I wish he would do steel cases for the game watches. They all have the same case. I would pay for one in a heartbeat.
I cannot wait to get mine. Placed the order last night. Thanks for such a great video!
Hope you enjoy it!
Looks great and thanks heaps for the great video!
Great video. That’s an awesome mod.
I haven’t worn mine in a while. That’s the great thing about these videos. It reminds me what I’ve got in my collection. 😂🤣⌚️
Ol dude picked up on the will of every casio fan out there! Casio Royale has so many features and is extremely accurate. My favorites on the watch are the 3 sec. amber lights and hella loud sound notifications.
Im currently rocking gshock square 5600 with gold stainless steel case.
And throw away your 5610s. Unless u like not hearing your watchs alarm. -Shade
Great vid. Thx.
Man that case is SICK
man this is amazing!!!!! when I bought my ae 1200 I said I wish it has a stainless steel body and a glass face instead of plastic I had to custom cut a screen protector to keep it from getting scratched overtime. this is so dope!!!!! thanks for the video! the watch is amazing and its worth an upgrade!
Glad you like it!
Absolutely beautiful.
Oh wow, it looks mean in such case. Great job!
I was honestly speechless myself haha. Amazing quality, I would love to have an unstoppable F91w or a158 but I imagine the printed crystals add a whole other level of complexity and cost. And most like the loss of the Casio logo to avoid a cease and desist lol
I got the Bronze case version with Sapphire crystal.... Love it!
Those clamps were challenging though.
What luck,
I was randomly wondering about this exact concept for the past few days.
Gooood job!
Glad you liked it!
Best watch ever built
15:32 Man that's the most ROBOCOP looking watch i've ever seen!
Looks like a million bucks! Congrats.
Very cool, really enjoyed that
Superb video. Loving this particular watch.
Thanks for watching!
I very much want this. I"m actually wearing my ae1200 right now by pure coincidence.
wow, its reminds me of vintage casio dw 3000, nice case
Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching!
Definitely looks amazing. Looks better than the metal square g shock 😉👍
Yup, this gonna be the next month purchase!
Looks really good
Love it, dont knownif I wanna swing 150 but that looks sharp!
I bought this watch after watching your video.
This is impressive. I need to mod mine ASAP!
I reckon that green screen mod would look pretty damn good in the bronze case too. A lot of money but the quality and craftmanship are gorgeous.
Really nice, now I want one too. :)
Have a few ae1200s and if didn't already have a full metal G-Shock square I would definitely go for this!
Wow, very cool.
Sweet! Would love to have this
Yes, I'm definitely going for a Bronze version!
The SS case makes the Casio Royale more legit.
Very nice watch.
These look awesome, will have to check them out later to see if they are still available.
Also those tiny E-Clips "Jesus Clips" are the things nightmares are made of! Lost a lot of their bigger cousins while working on projects.
THANKS FOR SHARING ....
Excellent
That is so cool
I would suggest enlarging the bezel a bit so it protrudes past and protects the crystal Then if you want to go all out redesign the lugs so you can use a straight end strapcode bracelet but this is awesome just he way it is
Supercool!
Looks really awesome. I'd love it even more if the trim around the crystal was painted black like the original case
Fabulos!!
Mines on order, hopefully get it soon, have a brand new AE1200 to go in it :D
hope casio will make someday an stell case variant for its legendary watches
Brutal!!
Saludos
I like the Kranio bezel more than the original. Very nice work by that guy.
Agreed!
I bought mine just to mod. Erased text on the outside and inside just left Casio and the button functions. VERY clean also! Updated today, taking the discarded rubber strap from my Duro, cut it to lug size (20to18), and tapers perfectly with the Royale! metal and rubber combo makes it sportier and its not available yet from Casio.
Perfect
I really want one now...
It would be cool to see anodized aluminum in different colors also.
Wow!
i was thinking about casting one of these cases out of old copper pennies. would make a fun project.
I need this a lot
I highly recommend it.
That's a very nicely done case. For myself, I would like a case design with the black horseshoe-shaped bezel insert of the original Seiko G757 Digiborg.
I'm considering this mod myself. The consideration is the cost of an AE-1200 versus the cost of this mod which has me wavering some.
The line - or ridge - around the sides of the resin case isn't where "two pieces of resin were sandwiched together". It's called a "parting line" where the two halves of a mold meet. In high precision molding you should never see a parting line without taking a 5x or higher magnifier to the molded part. Not too surprising these are obviously visible with Casio given their volume production and the price of these watches. Some of the secret in preventing a visible parting line is in mold design and where the two halves of the mold meet with regard to the object being molded. The clip is called an "E-clip", the name derived from its shape.
Yeah that parting line on the Casio is readily visible. I say go for the case! It really is beautiful and worth the money. You will love it.
Aw man, this is awesome. I love the World Time, cheap plastic and all, but had always wished it came in metal. I got to get this now. Bronze or steel ... hmm ...
nice Thank you....I have the rare grey one / grey dial ....soon in S/S
Very nice indeed. A Casio that should really have a stainless steel case is the A700W.
Love this mod and the craftsmanship that went into it. It must be difficult to source a square sapphire crystal, but I wish it came with one instead of the hardened mineral crystal.
Jonas here. I really had a tough time choosing between sapphire and mineral and went with mineral for cost reasons. I can make sapphire an option, but it would increase the price by $20. What do you think?
@@jelden65 Jonas, I didn't expect you'd reply, but thank you for doing so. $20 more for a sapphire crystal isn't a deal breaker. If I decide to mod my AE1200, I'd definitely want that option. Thank you again for your reply.
Most obvious choice : F-91w, bonus choice, the CA-53 calculator watch. This looks great, pretty tempted to upgrade my Casio Royale this way too.
The A1000D is the metal F-91W.
@@traviswalker8933 Yeah, but those mother of pearl dials are a bit 🤔
@@MisterHughes try the A1000M-1BEF
Awesome watch case, obviously a labour of love! While I'd really like a metal case for the funky, old-school watch from Casio's adventurous era, the W-753, with its tide and moon phase (and solar compass), the rounded case would be hell to machine, I think. I'd buy one, it's got a great module, one of the best. But it's not as popular as the Royale, that's for sure.
And there must be some fans of the small but powerful W-93H, and W-94H. I'd buy cases for those.
Or, the once popular WS-200H and WS-210 solars. Again, I'd buy cases for those. Well, my tastes are slightly not mainstream, I guess.
If Mr. Kranio wants a built-customer base, if he can do one for the F-91W, there's a huge market there. Plus, having drilled lugs that take spring bars can only be a good thing.
For lightness, and reduced cost, how about some aluminum cases? Those would be attractive even with some dings, for "character".
Much respect for this craftsman!
With a Saphir glass and it would be a perfect adds-on ! Great job anyway !
that would be so dope!
Nice
I am dreaming of this since 20 years ....
Exactly
Ae-1200 its from 2012
@@Gg-og1fk He dreamed from digital watches with steel case in general. Not particularly for this model.
@@senpen240 Thats right!
I am sooo jealous!
They're pricy but worth it. Handmade quality.
Watching Casio I am going to bear that in mind- but for now I’m just waiting on some silicon oil to hydro mod mine - can’t wait to see what it looks like with an LCD effect (if it works).. should also add a little weight to the case..
Just got my case today.
It blows my mind how well executed this case is.
Agreed!
Coming from Mr. Mobile's video here.
I think your channel is very underrated so I gonna upload the screenshot of your channel :)
Can't wait to see another video from you.
Ha, thanks! Been slacking on the videos lately. Too much going on. But have a few planned. What vid from Mr. Mobile? He's awesome.
@@WatchingCasio the 1 milliom subscribers special, he finally reached that milestone, it surprises me it took him so long
@@badabingbadaboom9251 Wow good for him. He deserves it. Used to live not too far from me before he moved.
@@WatchingCasio 😂 small world eh... Yeah you're right his content is top notch and so is yours lol
High price, but boy does that look good!
Fantastic! I have the normal version but it’s really obvious what an improvement this case is! I think a complete watch is my next purchase but it will have to wait a few weeks as I have just purchased a mint TGW-100 TRI GRAPH with the blue dial from 1989. Found your channel by chance and am so happy I did, subscribed!
Give that case a nice polish and it will look even better.
I've been looking for someone to do this for the f91w for years. He did a great job. I would buy an f91w metal case in a heartbeat. I followed him in insta. Also great video.
Just a tip for those who are moving the buttons over. Make things easier on yourself, place the metal washer and both gaskets onto the button shaft then insert into the holes. Coming from a G-Shock modder
Nice tip 👍
What a beautiful upgrade... and yet... expensive AF... All due respect to Jonas, this could do with some mass production...
Just watch it. Really awesome. Is it possible to hydro mod also in this case?
About frakin' time! I need one of these stainless steel ones. One recommendation for the guy who made the case: perhaps a bit of polishing of the bezel area on future cases.
I think he said that polishing would ruin some of the intricate curves and details of the case.

Great video!. It would be cool if he can make a case for the casio g-shock DW5600E. That would be an absolute killer case. Cheers!.
What about such metal case with matte finish for casioak though?
Very cool. Casio should issue a stainless steel / G SHOCK version of this classic.
Superb video great content and I wonder why Casio didn’t make the watch in stainless steel instead of resin.
now only to replace the plastic faceplate with a brushed metal one and its perfect
I have ordered one. I will try to Mod my SKMEI 1335.
The SKMEI has in my opinion some advantages.
Its cheap, less than 10€ on eBay.
I like the design of the LCD. The symbols and numbers are more readable.
The backlight is an eyecatcher.
Retro Pedro I have purchased several Skmei watches that mimic some of my Casios. I have the 1335 (AE1200), 1338 (A500), 1381(DB-360) and 1456 (GMW-B5000D-1). They are curiosities, which I never intended to actually wear. Some of the displays are not bad, but the Skmeis all lack the functions of the Casios. The bracelets are cheaper and have rough edges. Except for the 1456, the corresponding Casio does not cost that much more. Therefore, I would never recommend buying one of these Skmeis over an actual Casio.
The Case arrived. I happily disassembled my SKMEI but sadly it did Not fit.
The SKMEI electronics is a bit too big, anyway should bei possible to cut it down.
The real show stoppers were the Buttons, they are a bit too big, don't fit through the holes .....
Good
Beautiful case and mod! I am an amateur vintage LCD watch restorer and just have to say those c clips you mention at 6:53 are a nightmare to install. 😄 I found someone online mentioned easiest way to remove them is inside a zip lock bag. Just in case they spring out.
That's a good trick. Yeah they are tough. I bent mine (obviously) but eventually got them mostly straight to reinstall them.
@@WatchingCasio You did a fine job! Those pushers look secure and face plate nice and snug too. 😊
Thanks for another great vid. It would be strange to feel the weight when picking up a steel Royale. I'm on the hunt for a gold one with gold dial.
Very creative mods and designs. Enjoyable video.
good
Stunning case, just needs a matching bracelet 😍
Totally. Do you have any suggestions?
@@WatchingCasio hmm nothing I have tried. Would a Rolex style oyster bracelet work without using the end links?
@@fraserp2377 Maybe. It's such an odd watch.
Hi can you please tell me what size bull bars would fit on this mod
