  • POSTPARTUM RECOVERY SHOULD NOT BE AN AFTERTHOUGHT. Postpartum for new moms, especially, can be really tough if you don’t walk into it as prepared as possible. And although your body was made to give birth, the process of labor and birth is hard and rewarding work. While recovering from birth does not happen overnight, there are ways to help speed up healing after birth.
    One of the best ways to help heal your body whether you’ve had vaginal tearing or not is to use PADSICLES. In this video, you’ll learn how to make your own easy padsicles that you can add to your postpartum care regimen that will help you recover from your vaginal birth or c- section.
    The products you’ll need are organic pads, aloe vera, witch hazel, and lavender essential oil. Essential oils for postpartum can be so helpful from everything from vaginal care after birth to hormonal rebalancing to self care for mom. (I’ll make a video about essential oils for the childbearing year… what do you want to know?)
    Since you’ll be wearing pads anyways for bleeding after birth, Padsicles are a great way to make the most out of wearing that pad to support optimal vaginal care after birth! I hope this video helps you, Mama, as you navigate your initial postpartum period and use padsicles to find healing and relief for perineal care!

      Could you do a video for birth partners about postpartum, what to expect, ways to help mama and baby, and the signs of postpartum depression? There’s very little info out there for Dads preparing them for how rough the postpartum period can be on mamas and how to help. Thanks for the awesome videos, and keep them coming!

      would you recommend or think it's a good idea to use cloth diaper inserts opposed to feminine pads? I don't usually use disposable feminine products unless the organic ones are biodegradable? That would be great too. Thoughts? TIA!

      Wearing diapers postpartum has been recommended too. Do you recommend these medicated pads, diapers, or medicated liners to go in a diaper?

    I just made these, without the spray bottle, so I mixed a couple drops of the lavender into approx 2 tbsp of witch hazel. I could make 2-3 pads per 2 tbsp. So with the Thayers Witch Hazel 355ml bottle, I made 18 pads. I used the L ultra thin, regular size pads (42 pack).
    I still have tons of the lavender oil and aloe left, so if I need to make more, I'll just need more witch hazel. I might use a spray bottle if I need to make more too. I think that would help spread it more evenly and maybe even use less liquid per pad.

      After seeing it's $80/oz., I'm against it too!

    • @KewBlinkla
      @KewBlinkla 2 роки тому +2

      I would too. I was so conflicted early on because I seen a lot info saying not to use them (because they aren’t fully understood and tested), but also that there was a lot of articles saying “we know THESE ONES aren’t safe, but the others we’re unsure. And this small group is definitely safe (ex: lavender)”
      But then here’s what I decided. I’m gonna follow the safe list. I don’t ingest oils. I use them topically (in lotions, soaps) and for aromatherapy. But I’m not going to obsess over it… BECAUSE we’re basically told we can use a whole host of chemicals during pregnancy. Things in our shampoo, mouthwash, pads, laundry soap, etc… to me theyre a lot more dangerous than oils. Can oils be dangerous? 100% yes. But from the “safe” list I feel better rubbing a lotion on with natural ingredients including eucalyptus and grapefruit than I do rubbing “fragrance, PEG’s, aluminum, parabens, propalene glycol, etc”. And that’s apparently “ok” but lavender “isn’t tested”. Know what I mean???

    • @jordanshaw5500
      @jordanshaw5500 2 роки тому

      @@KewBlinkla Totally agree. Just make sure your oils are diluted before using, a lot of them can cause skin irritation etc if used without being diluted. Also you need to diluted them in oil... not water. Oil and water do not mix and you will be getting the oil at full potency.

      Hmmm, that's interesting- most sources- Dr.s and research agree that witch hazel is effective for relief and healing. Though it’s not the same healing properties wise, using water would also work. At the hospital I go to they make padsicles there. But they are just maternity pads made with water and frozen in the freezer. They tell you to put it into a plastic bag then wrap in paper towel. Place in underwater on top of your maternity pad you are wearing or disposable underwear(like tens, always...for bladder leakage. But they are comfy and no leaks! And disposable) basically you are adding something cooling to an area that is healing. So even a cold clean cloth might work also, sometimes we have to get creative and a bit inventive when things aren’t avaliable to purchase everywhere:)

      I believe the idea behind freezing it is just the coolness of it provides additional relief. I don't believe not freezing it would impact whether or not it's safe to use.

    I am wondering, do the padsicles become liking uncomfortably soggy after the warm? And do you have to change them more often than a plain pad?

    • @BridgetTeyler

      They're mostly for relief! So you might want to change them out once you've gotten the most relief out of them.

    Thanks Bridget, great idea! Just one question - putting anything frozen directly on skin can burn / attach. Should they thaw a bit first or should there be a barrier like cotton in between?

    • @iamwhoyousayiam6773

      You _could,_ but if you're not using the products then you may as well get a freezing gel pad for down there. The items discussed are to aid in pain and recovery. Water may give you freezer burn if you put too much on it and it's directly on your skin...

    I don’t understand how these could possibly absorb any of the blood or lochia when they are presaturated and frozen.

    • @iamwhoyousayiam6773
      @iamwhoyousayiam6773 3 роки тому

      3 tablespoons of liquid isn't going to soak an entire La Vie (ultra absorbent) pad. Also, these aren't for absorption; they're for medical application of anti-inflammatory and pro-healing products

    • @jvertrees1988
      @jvertrees1988 3 роки тому

      @@iamwhoyousayiam6773 again- what would you do for absorption then? I’ve had three babies and I’ve NEVER needed a padsicle, but I have needed actual pads every time to ABSORB blood. So if these aren’t for absorption- which you admit and I already stated in my original comment- do you just allow the blood to run down your legs?

    • @ksam94x
      @ksam94x 3 роки тому

      I made these when I had my first baby and they really do still absorb well even with the witch hazel and aloe. They were most helpful the day after birth once the swelling had come up. I used dry pads straight after birth which was when bleeding was the worst. I've just made some today to prepare for my second baby 😊

    FYI, you can buy padcicles at a pharmacy. Also, they may not work for you at all. They felt like a special kind of torture to me. Like, first you get the ring of fire, then you sit on ice (which can burn, too.)

      It's ingredients that are in our homes already, a lot of people have aloe vera plants especially if there are children in the house, the gel heals wounds like nothing else. Also with hazel is great as a tonic same as apple cider vinegar. It's just about using what you have on hand to help and heal your body quicker 😉

      You can purchase a 16oz bottle of witch hazel for 2.00 at Target, same with aloe vera gel. I'm surprised people don't have these at their house. Most of the ingredients (Minus the essential oil) are cheaper options when it comes to wound care.
