- Thought I'd post a video showing my tricopter settings, components, and radio setup.
Check out my website for a complete build guide

I built Davids design too.. Great flying tricopter.
Thanks for sharing your KK setup..
I have mine pretty tamed down but eventually want to do aerobatics with it.
I have a couple other tri copters on the build bench too.
My pleasure. Have fun flyin!
Not a problem, happy flying!
Go into your KK2 board. There will be a "motor layout" menu which displays all the directions that the propellers need to spin.
Hey Jorge, I didn't remove any of the power leads from the ESC's. I just simply plugged them straight into the board.
great video. Thank you. And I also just got the Turnigy 9xr so this was very helpful.
Thanks. I got it flying! I have some servo jitter so now I'll try to fix that.
Awesome! Have fun! The servo jitter can be fixed by increasing the servo filter value
No, if you want the tricopter to yaw left, you need the tail motor to bank right. If you go into Misc Settings, and go into Channel 4, you'll be able to take the rudder channel to the opposite value.
In short, yes. Your tricopter only needs the basic 4-channel functions (Throttle, yaw, pitch, and roll) to fly. These functions are stock with all radios. The pinch that you may experience is with activating your 5th channel (stabilize mode) if you do not have that ability...
So... I do not see an immediate problem with getting a tricopter to fly on a 32MHz standard radio, it just might not be ideal.
great video the setting help me a lat> thank you for taking the time.
No, I only used the HobbyKing programming card to set the cut offs, etc... so no, they weren't flashed with any other firmware.
Hi Jorge- only remove red pins IF you have switching BEC's as mentioned on page 2 of the kk2 user manual- hope this clears it up for you
Thanks for that input!
Thank you!
Thanks!
Great!
Great video. I had a bit of trouble with the servo. Mine is digital. Had to change the mixer settings for the digital serve to hi speed. Mine is still in need of adjustment.
outstanding. and yea -- sometimes if your boom lengths are either longer or shorter, or even if the board isn't properly isolated from vibrations, it can cause settings to be somewhat different.
Great video. I have the spektrum dx6i transmitter and the reciever that came with it but I can't seem to get the motors to run. When I try to hook it up with the throttle up and then press the buttons 1 and 4 and pull the throttle down but it doesn't make the beeps to signal it is connected. Please help.
It is a slow or fast shake? You may just increase the servo filter some.
Hmm... I'm not understanding your question actually... what "red" cables are you referring to?
Nice video!
I have a prop question. I just built a tricopter. Do I mount regular props on the CW motors and Reverse or CCW props on the CCW motors or is it the other way around??
Good video !
Nice guide !
Thanks a lot !
Greetings from Ukraine !
when I move the rudder stick on the transmitter to the left should it make the make the motor pivot to the left?
Hey Daniel I just built a Tricopter with the KK2.0 v1.5 board. I have it set on Tri-Copter but when I go to spin up, only the front left motor spins, if I give some left aileron it will spin up the right motor, and if I give it some up elevator it will give me the rear motor with some throttle. So the power is going to the correct motors, but not correctly. Also the rudder servo moves in the correct direction if I apply rudder, but doesn't move on its own if I tilt the quad. default pids. Help?
can you help please? my tricopter keeps spining at only 10/15% throttle so i dont even try to give it more cuz i dont want to crash it, im using all ccw and the motors are spinning ccw as well im not using servos at all and my copter is about 2.74lbs
just a small question. I notice that on the starting page on the kk2 board, your settings are roll angle:1 and pitch angle: 17. Mine is zero. I this something important, and how do I change it?
Those settings work good for mine, but little shake side to side, what do you think it is?
I turned my kk2 board to the setting that its armed as soon as i plug it in.
Can I assume that you've already flashed the KK2 board with the newest firmware, have set your board to the proper motor layout (ie. quad, tri, etc...) ? Anything past this i'm not sure how to help troubleshoot your board.
with the kk2 board can I fly a tricopter with 35meg transmitter witch is not computorise
I'm getting some servo buzzing/jitter and my tri won't hold it's heading too well. Any ideas? I'm running KK2.1.5
Play around with the servo filter -- also depending on your servo type you may need it to be set in High or Low.
***** So it seems the servo is just a little nervous naturally. I've isolated the problem to garbage props. I have a ton of the green 1045 HK props. The regular ones are excellent however the reverse ones have EXTREME poor balance. The hub hole seems to be in the completely wrong spot so it's not even balanceable. I have one regular and one reverse on the front, on full throttle it pulls to the crappy blade side. Same if I switch the front two props. Thanks though. Never imagined crap props could cause so many problems.
Nice! I'm glad you found a solution. I was also going to check to ensure that you've put some foam or isolators underneath your control board -- excess vibrations can cause your IMU (Inertial Module Unit) to react incorrectly and could be causing some jitters in the responses.
Servo jitter/buzz go look up "simplecopter build" on here, he says you can select different setting on the KK board, Analog is different to Digital servo settings, he flys like a dingbat and has built loads of tri's.....
Yup -- should have touched on that in the Mixer Editor setup! Hope you're flying stable now!
I have a question for you.. I'm using those same motors and speed controllers...
I have a bearing that makes noise do you know what bearings to get and where for those DT motors?
Sorry -- I actually have no idea where to get bearings...
***** I found them www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11521__HK450V2_Bearing_8x4x3mm_.html
I am having an issue with my kk2 board. All my reciever test are on 0 however when i try to calibrate it says aileron is not ok. I can not arm the kk2 board and i have done an esc calibration. can anyone help.
hi ,I set my tricopter like yours, but everytime it took off it always flipp over,Im dont know where to adjust this problem.I hope you could help me solve this, thanks in advance
That's really odd... maybe you need to set your endpoints on the ESC's ?? Otherwise, recalibrate to ensure the tricopter is level.
Did you reflash the ESC's?
why engines left and right of my tricopter rewed alternately tank you
Can u help. My tricopter keeps yawing as I try to take off. No matter what I do it keeps doing it and then flips over. The servo is centred so it's not that. Can u help please
+Craig chivers Have you done the calibration steps on a flat surface? You want to ensure your ESC endpoints are all set correctly -- having one ESC with a different 'max' endpoint for throttle can cause odd things... there are videos on how to do this step. Also check that you're using the correct yaw servo type in the settings (digital vs analog). Make sure your motors are all spinning the correct directions and have the the correct propellers installed. Lastly, go through all your settings on the KK2 and on your transmitter ---> make sure things aren't reversed on your Transmitter -- when you roll left, the tricopter banks left.... when you yaw left on the stick, the yaw motor needs to tilt right.
+Daniel Hubert yeh done all that. Manage to fix it by reversing the rudder and was ok. But elavator is reversed aswell but it works now. Is that ok or do I need to reverse elavator and -100 on the kk2 settings for it to work even better? And then got to fine tune p and I
+Craig chivers not sure, but it probably won't make a different if you invert the transmitter or invert the KK2 with -100. Glad you're on your way to flying!
+Daniel Hubert thanku
No, they SHOULD BE at zero if your board is calibrated :)
Clearly I hadn't re-calibrated in a while so it thought my board was tilted on level ground
It is a slow or fast shake? You may just increase the servo filter some.
