No problem, Frank. I'm currently doing a KK2 build right now and am having all sorts of problems. I just posted a vid about it. I think the board is defective. Anyway, I'm glad this helped and thanks for watching.
Thank you for the feedback. I didn't realize how popular the AeroSky quad is, but a lot of people are flying with it from what I can tell. I have another AeroSky quad that someone shipped me to help with so I'll be doing some more config stuff. Yes, that's a mini that I built almost 2 years ago and is a great place to skate when it's too hot or raining outside :)
Good to know that your motors and ESCs are working properly and it sounds like your throttle channels is normal and not reversed. The next thing I would try is your rudder channel to see if you can arm your KK by pushing your throttle stick to the left.
I personally think the KK2 LCD is the best flight controller for the money. I fly them in my AP quads and never have any problems. And the simplicity of tuning is just amazing!
Jose, thank you for the feedback. For the time being we're going to stick with the AeroSky TX but I do plan on doing more vids with the 9X and my other quads. I plan on doing one more vid that shows how I got my PI settings for the AeroSky quad.
Thank you very much Sir! This video really helped me setup the KK2. I am a fixed wing man who is new to quads. Thanks again for taking the time to make this vid. Chris, UK
You are definitely right. I had the KK1 from HobbyKing and it was such a pain to tune with the analog pots, but this KK2 with LCD screen is incredible. You can argue that it's even better than Naza given the screen and low cost.
You're definitely right. I'm always amazed how you can get a cheap controller for $15 and have a pretty awesome quad. The MWC is a good FC for the money. But you definitely can't go wrong with the KK2.
Yeah I'm actually building a fpv turnigy microquad which uses the kk2 board also. Your knowledge of the kk2 board is quite universal though. I also like that you're using like the cheapest controller ever and don't even care lol. It's all about love for the hobby man.
Thanks for the input. I set 60/30 on the p &i gains and it does good. I still need v1.5 though for quicker response. I crashed today so now I really have problems. Rebuild!
Yeah that would be pretty tight. If you haven't seen it already check out the intro to Pretty Sweet. A lot of it was filmed with a quadcopter. If you search my channel for "FPV Quadcopter and Aerial Video for Intro in Pretty Sweet Skateboarding Video" you hear my commentary on it and see part of the intro.
You don't technically need a PDB, but you need a way to power all your ESCs from your battery. The PDB is generally the cleanest way to do this, but if you look around for pigtails you'll see that you can have power from your battery cable split into multiple leads to feed your ESCs. You can even make your own, which I've done a few times. It's kind of a pain but sometimes gets the job done nicely.
Yes, this could carry a GoPro. You'll need a good way to mount it or a gimbal. There's a tab on the bottom plate that you could mount it to. Yes, auto-level returns the quad back to level if you're pitching and rolling in any direction.
Hi Jack, thanks for the feedback. I just subscribed to your channel and will be following your mini quad project since I'm doing the same right now. Best of luck with it and look forward to seeing you get in the air.
Right :) Arming is necessary and you only need to learn how to do it once. Unless you switch to a different flight controller where the arming sequence is different. Hope you're in the air now.
thank's dennis you bailed me out again... i know this board is easy ..but i haven't used kk2 for a long time.. and forgot a few things great video thank's...frank
I would say a good battery would be something like a 3S 2500 mA or 3000 mA battery. You could probably go a little larger, but you'll need to consider the weight that this will add to your setup.
In my opinion NAZA does...especially with GPS. It comes at a price quite a bit more than KK2, but it's really a great flight controller. I started with the KK1 and then upgraded to NAZA. I still like KK2 for my cheaper builds.
Sounds like that came out of nowhere. I had a problem with my ArduCopter where this happened once and never really understood what happened. It took a while to regain confidence to get it back in the air again. Hope you didn't sustain much damage.
and another tip I read from RC Groups: "if i remember correct once the devo is binded to the rx you can unplug the battery to the rx and it remembers the ID ...so try this...turn on the tx , plug in the battery to the rx and let them bind...then unplug the battery and place the throttle to high position then plug the battery back in and the tx/rx should rebind quickly and allow you to do the calibration..."
A 25-30C rating should be okay. The AeroSky that I have does not have prop washers. I definitely recommend upgrading to the Turnigy 9X at some point. Just keep in mind you'll need to get a new RX because the AeroSky RX isn't compatible.
yeah I've skated all my life and got some friends that are pretty epic. I wanna film them doing runs with a quadcopter. I would be so cool chasing someone down a handrail and filming it. Or chasing someone through a skate park.
No problem. That sounds like a royal pain. Have you experimented with using a fixed ID for binding? I know the WK-2801 supports it and from what I understand binding happens much quicker, which may allow you to get around this problem.
It was crazy to me that there was no documentation about this. Trial in error I guess! The channels on the receiver go like this: 1 = Aileron 2 = Elevator 3 = Throttle 4 = Rudder That will match up with the inputs on the KK2. You'll generally find in most cases (not all, but most) that the ordering is fairly standard A,E,T,R. Hope this helps you get in the air. Let me know if you have any probs and please check out garagepilots . com for even more fun :)
What do you mean by "DJI M"? Are you referring to the "DJI NAZA M"? If so, they basically do the same thing to stabilize your multirotor, but the NAZA M is a more sophisticated flight controller. It also has the ability to add GPS. At the same time the KK2 is tough to beat for the money and you can configure it without a computer since it has an LCD screen. The KK2 is obviously much cheaper too, but there is the NAZA Lite which is cheaper than the NAZA V2.
Are you flying with a 3S or 4S lipo? Also, make sure you've done the ESC calibration routine which will set your low and high endpoints. If they're not calibrated you may not be getting the full range of throttle. Are you able to get your quad off the ground and hover?
Sorry to hear that. Make sure that you have proper vibration damping as I've heard that some of these boards do crazy things when there are too many vibes. Were you hovering okay and all of a sudden it flipped over?
There's a chance that it will fly, but you run the risk of flipping and crashing given your throttle range for all the ESCs won't be equal. Most flight controllers will be able to detect this and won't let you arm. I don't recommend trying to fly without doing a proper ESC calibration.
No, I haven't. Is it sluggish or non-responsive? If it's sluggish then consider turning up your gains. If it doesn't respond at all then I'm uncertain what to recommend. Does it fly okay in acro mode?
Dennis thank you! With DEVO7 I get THSTK error on powering with throttle up. If I power and then raise the stick, impossible to bind afterwords.I actually gave up with the DEVO7 since my post here, and moved to a turnigy9X. I am still not flying though, for a "little problem". Posted a full report of my experience on my website, should it be of any interest. Still interested in tips for the THSTK/throttle up issue on DEVO7 as I might want to use kk2 board with this radio on other quads. Thanks!
If you look at the NAZA Lite it's an affordable way to get a good flight controller with GPS. I haven't seen the Phantom electronics so I'm not sure I can help you with that. You could check out garagepilots . com and post the question over there. There are a few guys that have a Phantom and may be able to help. Good luck with your build.
thanks fore the help, wounder about battary setting, i set up mine and i looks like i dont get the power ihave , juse 5000 45-90c bat, the quad feels like its have no power even when the batt is full. hav i done any setting wrong?
Thanks Dennis.I will explain to you, i already have a PHANTOM, i don't even like them. I'm photographer and i don't know much about quadcopter and that's why i asked for that difference between KK2 AND DJI M. I've question to you what do i need to build quadcopter with GPS? I know about FRAME, MOTORS, ESC, GPS, FLIGHT C BOARD, RECEIVER and what else i need to do that!? Why PHANTOM has MC BOARD and FLIGHT CONTROL BOARD? Where are you connect the battery power wire on the FLIGHT CONTROL BOARD.
great vid, however if I try to switch on my radio (DEVO7) with throttle up it gives an error. Kind of stuck on esc calibration with kk2 beacause of this. Would you have any hint to bypass this issue? Thanks
ok well i got the the same quad as the one in your video and i notice that it all ready came with the 5ch and auto level.i know you told me witch battery to use but what about the c rating.and when i put on the props i notice that it came with washers should i put them on?does yours have washers.oh and also do you thing i should upgrade to the 9x or just use the aerosky.thanks for the feed back.
hello Buddy, helpful video.I am having a problem with the kk2.0 (v1.5).my setting are okey(receiver test........)calibration ok.....but at the end, when i move the rudder to the right to arm the board, nothing changes. help me to get this done please. regards
Just be careful to make sure they are rated the same, run the same firmware, and have the same refresh rate. I would say you could probably do a basic low hover test, but it's probably safest to go with all the same ESCs. It's not worth the risk of something bad happening, ya know?
Have you messed with your autolevel gains at all? What happens when you do an acc calibration? Perhaps you've accidentally tweaked a configuration or a sensor has gone bad. Worse case I would reload the firmware and see what happens from there.
Could this carry a gopro? And what exactly does auto level do? Does it make it to where when you let go of the sticks it returns to level? I would appreciate your help. Thanks
Where should the power from my UBEC be connected ? If it's to the Rx as it is in every other application then I don't get M1 to be the power supply. Do I splice the UBEC into M1 Red & Brown ? Check out valuehobby . com and see if you can price something out within your budget. I think you should be able to get pretty close. I've never used the Orange T-Six, but I would definitely look into the Turnigy 9X or 9XR as you get 3 more channels and it's a nice setup. If you're set on going with Orange then the T-Six looks to be a good option. If you do get into higher-end flight controllers like the Naza you will definitely want more than 6 channels on your TX/RX combo.
how do you add a separate acting motor onto the board, say i wanted to make a tricopter that had a drive system for taxiing how could i make this reality with the kk2?
is it possible to do this with different esc's? i have one Turnigy Plush and 3 turnigy mutlistars. not sure if that is a good idea, but so far the only probrlemy i have is my flight time is 5mins :( and the whole thing shuts off at 8 volts (including the kk 2.0 board) ??????
can you help? motos 3 and 4 are not rotating...I have calibrated the ESCs many times. Is something wrong with the ESCs or can the problem be the bullet connectors? Please Help
i was looking to buy this quad but do you think i should build it my price range is $300 and if you think i should build one what transmitter and receiver shuold i get i was thinking of going with the orange t six..please reply.
Well thanks anyway. In case anybody else asks. It seemed right to put the arrow forward and the label up. My Acc Z failed because the label has to be down! Just FYI for you.
hello buddy, everything setting looks okey.I discovered something today:when I switched off the power,I put the throttle to the max,I powered the quad,I holded the first and the 4th button of the kk2.0 at once i heared the beep beep,I put the throttle to the lowest level.....I kept holding the two buttons of the kk2.0 and when I brought up the throttle, all the 4 motors spins, when I stop holding the 2 buttons, the motors stop.sos help please.and I flashed my kk2.0 to v1.6 this morning.thanks
hello Dennis i have built my first quadcopter and i have installed your configurations though the quadcopter is not rising vertically! what could be the problem? thanks
Pavlo Vlastos Check that your sticks are not reversed because sometimes that happens. So down and to the right physically may end up top and to the left. Most TX models have the ability to view the display of the sticks on the screen. Another issue may be that your down position isn't low enough so you may need to trim the throttle down just as a test. There are so many things that could go wrong here, but if you feel you've done the proper calibration and everything is connected correctly then it may be a TX config issue.
Ciao e grazie ancora. SILVANO
Hi my friend thank you for your videos very good.. I have question if you can help I really appreciate I built one like yours but I used kk2.1EVO very good board , my question is about how can I connect the alarm sensor???, It have battery connection too ... exactly kk2.1
No problem, Frank. I'm currently doing a KK2 build right now and am having all sorts of problems. I just posted a vid about it. I think the board is defective. Anyway, I'm glad this helped and thanks for watching.

Dennis both tips you provide are very sound, will give them a try on my next go. Thank you very much for taking the time to research and post that!
Hey guys!!! This is really useful! If you have a KK2 board, make it so your auto-leveling on/off is set to aux1!
Right. Or you can use your sticks to configure auto-level should you choose to do so. But I really like being able to toggle in-air with a switch.
No problem. Good luck with your setup and let me know if you have any more questions.
No problem at all. Thank you for the feedback and I'm glad it helped.
Thanks for the input. I set 60/30 on the p &i gains and it does good. I still need v1.5 though for quicker response. I crashed today so now I really have problems. Rebuild!

Definitely...and it works nicely. Thanks for the comment.
great guide, this was truly big help for someone who is about to build quad with KK2.1.5 and has no idea what to do with it :D Thanks!
Samppanen No problem. Thanks for watching and the feedback.
Thanks Larry. I'm getting close to having it dialed in and then I'll ship it back up your way and let you have a maiden flight with it.
Absolutely. I think I'm going to make it the default flight controller for my next quad setup.
This is one of the best videos on the subject.
You don't technically need a PDB, but you need a way to power all your ESCs from your battery. Sounds like a plan. Good luck and keep us posted.
Good to know. I just posted a vid where my PI settings where pretty close to yours (75/40). Good luck with your KK firmware upgrade and rebuild.
Yeah you're the man for this video. Is that a mini ramp in your garage? You're like the coolest guy ever lol.
The only video on UA-cam witch accurate information. Thanks Man!!
Yes. I should have it ready in the next day or two. Thanks for watching.
Yes, this could carry a GoPro. You'll need a good way to mount it or a gimbal. There's a tab on the bottom plate that you could mount it to. Yes, auto-level returns the quad back to level if you're pitching and rolling in any direction.

Dennis you must have the best much watch how to video on UA-cam for the KK2 board..... I thank you.... God bless
tank yoy sir, i have been having issues with my hex, but you set it straight.. WELL DONE and thank you TU
+Mishal Alkhodair Appreciate that. Thanks for the good words and glad you got it working.
glad I've found your channel Dennis your info is invaluable to a newbie like me..a big thumbs up!
Man thanks :)
Right :) Arming is necessary and you only need to learn how to do it once. Unless you switch to a different flight controller where the arming sequence is different. Hope you're in the air now.
Just about to build my first 250 quad and found your vid. I got the kk2.1.5 board and was looking for set up info, thanks
snowy511 You bet. Thanks for watching and good luck with your setup.
thank's dennis you bailed me out again... i know this board is easy ..but i haven't used kk2 for a long time.. and forgot a few things great video thank's...frank

Great video. I got mine flying because of your video. Thank you.
Micro Quads No problem. Glad you're in the air!

Sounds like that came out of nowhere. I had a problem with my ArduCopter where this happened once and never really understood what happened. It took a while to regain confidence to get it back in the air again. Hope you didn't sustain much damage.
wow you been so much help hopefully you do go with the 9x for this quad.
and do a bit more vids before you send it back.if not oh well.
THANK YOU!!!
and another tip I read from RC Groups:
"if i remember correct once the devo is binded to the rx you can unplug the battery to the rx and it remembers the ID ...so try this...turn on the tx , plug in the battery to the rx and let them bind...then unplug the battery and place the throttle to high position then plug the battery back in and the tx/rx should rebind quickly and allow you to do the calibration..."

ottimo video molto utile a chi vuole iniziare grazie per averlo postato
yeah I've skated all my life and got some friends that are pretty epic.
That depends, if the frame has one built in or not. But Yes you always need one. Just check if its built into the frame like Hobbykings Q450 with PCB.
It was crazy to me that there was no documentation about this. Trial in error I guess! The channels on the receiver go like this:
1 = Aileron
2 = Elevator
3 = Throttle
4 = Rudder
That will match up with the inputs on the KK2. You'll generally find in most cases (not all, but most) that the ordering is fairly standard A,E,T,R. Hope this helps you get in the air. Let me know if you have any probs and please check out garagepilots . com for even more fun :)

thanks my friend ,,,good job.. i finally found this video that could help me to sincronize my sk450.. thanks
rene lomas rodriguez No problem. Thanks for watching.
Sorry to hear that. Make sure that you have proper vibration damping as I've heard that some of these boards do crazy things when there are too many vibes. Were you hovering okay and all of a sudden it flipped over?
Thanks a lot for getting back to me!
such a master piece! I appreciate for this video. this was all what i need.!!!
+Aytekin Akkaya Glad to hear it. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks a lot. great explanation helped me to start up my KK2.1.5 Flight Controller.
+Mahmoud Sabalbal Thank you and glad to hear you got it configured.

Great set up video.

Thank you.

Sir ,you are great .it helped me a lot
What gives an error? Your DEVO7 or KK2? I've done this with the Walkera WK-2801Pro so I would expect that you'd be able to do this with the DEVO7.
Thanks Dennis.I will explain to you, i already have a PHANTOM, i don't even like them. Where should the power from my UBEC be connected ? If it's to the Rx as
it is in every other application then I don't get M1 to be the power
supply. Do I splice the UBEC into M1 Red & Brown ? There are some
critical steps in the instructions missing.
Next - when I get into
ESC calibration mode on full throttle I get 1 beep 4 times then 2 beeps 4
times then 3 X 4 then 4 X 4 etc ad infinitum. ESCs are MultiStar OPTO 20A.
what transmitter you use ??
Hey, Need Help !
Even after caliberating the escs the motors are not starting at the same time. What should I do?
How to couple or syncronize 2 kk board... Or is there some motor oitput extension board... For more than 8 motors
I have one of these, and getting it dialed in and then today messing with hight hold it did a front flip and I didn't do it??????? Any idea's??
Check out valuehobby . com and see if you can price something out within your budget. I think you should be able to get pretty close. I've never used the Orange T-Six, but I would definitely look into the Turnigy 9X or 9XR as you get 3 more channels and it's a nice setup. how do you add a separate acting motor onto the board, say i wanted to make a tricopter that had a drive system for taxiing how could i make this reality with the kk2?
It was in a very still hover, no movement at all two feet up and it was like high rates and you pushed the right stick forward fast.
is it possible to do this with different esc's? i have one Turnigy Plush and 3 turnigy mutlistars. not sure if that is a good idea, but so far the only probrlemy i have is my flight time is 5mins :( and the whole thing shuts off at 8 volts (including the kk 2.0 board) ??????
awesome video man. keep it up.
Bruno, thank you and glad it helped.
cheers for the video very helpfull !
Flies great in acro mode, however, when i switch to self level, it does not quickly self correct itself like it did when i first installed the board.
hi. I'd like to come out to settle Quadrokopter and without GPS?
can you help? motos 3 and 4 are not rotating...I have calibrated the ESCs many times. Is something wrong with the ESCs or can the problem be the bullet connectors?
Please Help
i was looking to buy this quad but do you think i should build it my price range is $300 and if you think i should build one what transmitter and receiver shuold i get i was thinking of going with the orange t six..please reply.
sir which wires are you using to connect your kk to receiver
Hey there! do you need to have a power distribution board always for a multicopter?
Auxillary is 'off' how do i turn it on? I've connected channel 5 to Aux
Pls help me, if you now know how to
Thanks
Well thanks anyway. In case anybody else asks. It seemed right to put the arrow forward and the label up. My Acc Z failed because the label has to be down! Just FYI for you.
jerry zito Ah okay! I didn't even think about that, but glad to hear you got it working. Thanks for the update.

Sir i am using kk2.1.5 and fs 6ct6b but the verticle range of my drone is about 50metre how to increase its height?
hello Dennis
i have built my first quadcopter and i have installed your configurations though the quadcopter is not rising vertically! what could be the problem? thanks
Will you post this on www.garagepilots.com in the forums with some more info? Perhaps we can help you out over there. Good luck!
After I calibrate the motors, when I move my throttle down and to the right, my board does not ARM. Did I miss something?
Pavlo Vlastos Check that your sticks are not reversed because sometimes that happens. So down and to the right physically may end up top and to the left. Most TX models have the ability to view the display of the sticks on the screen. Another issue may be that your down position isn't low enough so you may need to trim the throttle down just as a test. There are so many things that could go wrong here, but if you feel you've done the proper calibration and everything is connected correctly then it may be a TX config issue.
Ciao e grazie ancora. SILVANO
