I flew with Malaysian on the A380 to KL and back to Heathrow last month. What a fantastic airline! The flight was amazing and the landings were smooth! Utterly impressed by all crew. Definitely could learn a few things from them here. Outstanding service. Tyvm
MH: great airline. They had some tough times, not really of their own doing a while back, but their technical reputation is still very good and they are held in high regard within the industry!
During my most recent trip to London, I left the airport and look up and see the STUNNING Malaysia Airlines A380 land! Such a beautiful site! Very cool to see a cockpit view! Thanks for producing this wonderful video!
Even though i am not frm malaysia but i am staying in malaysia for a long time but after watching the video i would say this is a very smooth approach and landing and with clear conversation with atc , all the best to malaysian airlines to hve good pilots.....
Those who do not know on Aviation. Pilot must practice using Autoland for several times, it is to ensure the aircraft is in good conditions at all times, Undeniable Pilot must practice land the aircraft manually, but in this case maybe the pilot has decided to check whether Autoland works prefectly in normal condition or not... They do have plan, procedures that they have to adhere in all flights
Some (many?) airlines have a pilot requirement that they do at least one auto-land per month/30 days, just to keep current with the technology. Passengers may notice it as a 'slightlier bumpier landing' - because technology stil can't replice the skill of a good pilot in performing a gentle, quiet landing!
For your information also, having long years of experience doesn't mean he's skilled enough to handle in case of emergency situation, bad weather, or any human error case, or hijack, doesn't constitute that he's an expert pilot in every aspect of flying an aircraft too. I do have my respect for him as a pilot, but not your shitty comment..
Flew with Malaysia airlines to our honeymoon in Thailand via Kuala Lumpur on the a380 both of us really enjoyed the flight on this aircraft. The staff were a credit to the airline really professional and friendly as for the aircraft wow so comfortable in economy
All these haters who only fly Microsoft flight sim in their mothers basement at age 35, with no idea of this pilots background, experience, or the SOPs his airline requires him to follow, but ready to make smart ass comments on UA-cam about his flying skills. Get a life ( yes, i fly)
Hottub Errol obviously feels that his beloved X-Plane desktop simulator is way more realistic than all other platforms used by lesser qualified basement-dwelling aviation experts. Your opinion is noted, sir.
Great smooth landing by MAS pilots! How come the Captain wear some eye glasses ( short-sight or reading glass)? I thought they have to have 20/20 vision.
When the captain called for gear down, the first officer flipped the switch and immediately confirmed gear down, without waiting to confirm it had properly lowered and locked. Is that normal procedure?
+King Beef I think cockpit SOPs should be standardized across all airlines. It may well avoid serious incidents, and also allow pilots to adjust more easily if they switch to other airlines.
Pilots must practice the use of autoland every so often. Under our regulations, I must autoland at least once every 30 days to maintain currency. Due to the amount of traffic in and around LHR as well as the generally poor visibility/low cloud base, it is inadvisable to practice hand flying there.
MrChaostheory66 that's nonsense. At least 3 autolands need to be done every year to remain current, 2 of which can be done in an approved simulator. Also autolands are not recommended because it's a busy airfield or with weather conditions like these. Practiced autolands are ok, but ATC need to be notified of this to ensure the back up generator for the ILS is operational and that all traffic on the ground is holding short of the CAT III stop bar to protect the ILS area.
I have never heard of such a thing or law. The Asiana crash in San Francisco was caused by pilot error as they attempted to hand fly the plane. (Auto land / glide slope system was not available for that runway on that day.) Too much reliance on technology resulted in the loss of the pilot's proficiency to manually fly the plane on his own. Many pilots consistently hand fly the aircraft to maintain proficiency, reserving auto land for such things as bad weather. Probably a better practice.
when the system said minimums and the pilot did not say continue in stead is the first officer say this, also that gear needs around 15-20 seconds to make sure is completely gear down, how can first officer confirm within 3seconds?
Is this a fundamental procedure in piloting-the pilot can only maneuver the plane(including take off and landing) with guidance from the air traffic controllers? Not like motor driving where we only guide ourselves(including google map) and we are only controlled by the traffic lights.
😮 Autoland in near CAVOK conditions!? What a waste of an opportunity. Also did the crew request if an autoland was available? (this to ensure the ILS area was protected)
the voice calling altitudes is British. is this the autoland or part of the airbus itself? As in, would it call out altitudes at ANY airport or just autoland equipped strips?
I believe the Airbus voice commands - not sure if all, or just the GPWS and a few others - are British as it's a European made Aircraft and English is the language of the skies. Therefore, they use an English voice.
The accent of the automatic voice changes based on the country you land in, if you're landing in Germany, he speaks English with a German accent, if you're landing in Hong Kong, he speaks English with an Chinese accent. Obviously if you land in France, it just speaks French which is very annoying!
i found this on wikipedia: "The A380 was initially planned without thrust reversers, as Airbus believed it to have ample braking capacity. The FAA disagreed, and Airbus elected to fit only the two inboard engines with them. The two outboard engines do not have reversers, reducing the amount of debris stirred up during landing. The A380 features electrically actuated thrust reversers, giving them better reliability than their pneumatic or hydraulic equivalents, in addition to saving weight."
from what i read, its because the 2 outer engines are too far out for most airports, and they would cause a lot of debris from the grass area to fly in the runway, which is dangerous both for them and for the airplanes that will follow
"decel" means your autobrake is operative when the wheels have touched down. It is important for the pilot to call out "decel" to have an affirmation that the aircraft is decelerating using autobrakes. If the "decel" indication doesn't light up, the pilot have to be prepared to slow the aircraft using manual braking.
It means that the aircraft is 100 feet above the 'minimums' which is the Decision Altitude (DA) where the pilots must decide on whether to land the plane or go around.
***** Are you stupid? Are you one of those that spreads toxicity on YT? That wasn`t a criticism. It was a question. And by the way... that`s A380 not 747(assuming that u are a boeing Fanboy)
For info, every now and then you need to practice Autoland to comply with the Low Visibility Operation validity. It is also to build up confident level of the pilots so that they will not hasitate to carry out actual autoland when it is needed.
A commercial jet has two or more autopilots in case one fails. Airbus have two autopilots. As the pilot chose to do an auto-land, it's required he has both autopilots activated in case one decided to cut out due to a malfunction.
I can't understand some peoples on this comment they are mad just because the pilot used ILS the Airbus company created to make your life easier if not why the fuck they created it
Before you make a comment like that, please use your brain and think for a minute. There are many reasons why the crew elected to do an autoland. One of them could be to keep current on LVO procedures. To make a comment like that is just plain ignorance.
They need to maintain currency on the autoland system, and Heathrow is such a busy airport and they stack their planes on approach very closely, so its best not practice hand flying there.
I dont know why East pilots much use autopilot more than European or American. Right after gear up autopilot is activated on each video espacialy for Airbus planes. Where is a point of flying? Or they think "just finish duty for today and that is it".
Whether a pilot made the decision to engage autopilot after gear up has got nothing to do on which continent he is from. The automation is there for a purpose which is to ease the pilot's workload not for him to relax or 'shake legs'. Depending on several factors, in this case, the pilot took off from kuala lumpur which has 3 parallel runways in use and traffic is a major threat, plus you have GA aircraft flying at a nearby airport with terrain surrounding on the east of the airport, weather in that region is borderline most of the time since it is located on the equator. Human factors is also a concern, it is gonna be a 13-14 hours flight, you need the capacity to focus on landing the aircraft at another major airport. So is it wise for you to manual fly your way up, or would you rather engage your autopilot and focus on mitigating these threats with hundreds of lives behind? whatever you decide will determine how effective you are as a pilot.

Sadly a lot of people think they're cursed after the year from hell they had in 2016

Malaysia Airlines fanboy
Even though i am not frm malaysia but i am staying in malaysia for a long time but after watching the video i would say this is a very smooth approach and landing and with clear conversation with atc , all the best to malaysian airlines to hve good pilots.....
jitendra nayak CAT 3 ILS Autoland
its an auto-land approach. Not manual landing
Yeah right. Autopilot landed the plane. So you have to thank the engineer for such a smooth autopilot.
I waited this for so long..thumbs up malaysian airlines pilots
the autopilot landed the plane though

For your information, this pilot has 30 YEARS of experience flying MD11, B737, B777, A330, A380 ...imagine how experienced he is? ...
the
pergh
what's the pilot's name?

Nice landing...Happy National Day Malaysia !!
Wow ...amazing comment.....just after hari merdeka

Read the report about FLT. 214 that crashed at SFO. 777 pilots with thousands of hours but are trained to use automation. Its just facts bro.
Don't just hate haters; hate hater haters. Also, hate an over-automated flying habit that substitutes hand flying habits.
+airbus214airplane so are you saying that you are a better pilot that Capt Arjunaidi? Lol
Hottub Errol obviously feels that his beloved X-Plane desktop simulator is way more realistic than all other platforms used by lesser qualified basement-dwelling aviation experts. Your opinion is noted, sir.
1:49 TO 1.50 Notice on Top left ! How close they were for a Bird Strike.....
the shadow looks awesome ☺
ICrazy Gamer yes
nice landing capt
Finally!! Found Malaysian Airlines video, selalu tengok luar negara punya je hehe
That landing👌
Auto land.
Autoland...
Yeah, that sidestick wasn't moving at all. XD
Yap ahahah
soft as a baby's bottom
My all-time favourite Airline.....Beautiful landing...Well done Captain.
Excellent landing ..I always compliment the crew when the landing is that smooth...
Beautiful smooth landing!!!!
Great smooth landing by MAS pilots! How come the Captain wear some eye glasses ( short-sight or reading glass)? I thought they have to have 20/20 vision.
wtf so smooth landing..good job pro pilot malaysia airlines..👍🏻
i think its a procedure to use autoland when approaching LHR.
check other videos of landing and approaching LHR
Beautiful touchdown!
So smooth, autolanding is generally smoother than manual?
Why Autoland...such wonderful weather
Manwel Farrugia they got so tired after long flight from KUL
What a nice landing, Airbus!
Really Like Malaysia Airlines.
They have good food.
Doesn't come as a surprise. ^your profile pic
Try guess my fav airline
SZB Azim Aviation Spotter yea hope they can regain their fame

When the captain called for gear down, the first officer flipped the switch and immediately confirmed gear down, without waiting to confirm it had properly lowered and locked. Is that normal procedure?
Yes. He's letting the captain know he's lowering the gear. The gear down check is part of the landing checklist
Cheers
Ps..I never heard him give a landing checklist though confirming gear down.
yes he's confirming he followed the order and lowered the gear.
+King Beef I think cockpit SOPs should be standardized across all airlines. It may well avoid serious incidents, and also allow pilots to adjust more easily if they switch to other airlines.
Do a 747 vid for Joe Sutter
We have 2 B747 films coming next. One on the 747-400 then 747-8. Check our website for details.
747-8????????? cargolux maybe? or lufthansa?
+wisnu1231 or British airways
Was the autopilot on during the whole landing?
Pilots must practice the use of autoland every so often. Under our regulations, I must autoland at least once every 30 days to maintain currency. Due to the amount of traffic in and around LHR as well as the generally poor visibility/low cloud base, it is inadvisable to practice hand flying there.
Here in Air Corsica, pilots manually lands 1 time every 5 landings to maintain currency !
thats right bro!
One shouldn't need practice to handfly his aircraft in a 7kt headwind.
+CloudsurferHD i do handfly airplane with 7kt crosswind :(
MrChaostheory66 that's nonsense. At least 3 autolands need to be done every year to remain current, 2 of which can be done in an approved simulator. Also autolands are not recommended because it's a busy airfield or with weather conditions like these. Wow!! Incredible video. Thank you.
Beautiful landing. A380?
Why autoland in a such great weather?
Flightcrews are required to perform full CAT3 autolands several times a year to stay proficient/current.
pilots are lazy nowadays!
As much pilots need to know how to land manually, they also need to use the auto land function once every 30 days
sometimes it's necessary for a number of reasons regardless of weather, to do with airline or other policy like a training or check flight.
CAT III currency perhaps.
Great landing guys!
what is the name of this captain?
Yes...looks like auto-land. Joystick did not move. Why let the plane have all the fun?
it depends on Pilot's preference ;)
sometimes FUN can be FUNNY..resulting death, so let's just stick to the normal procedures or pilot's routines.
that woul be ok..
It is better to used autoland hence, it is preferred by British law.
CAT III??
no landing checklist ? flaps 3 landing ?
did anyone hear the flaps full call out ? or that was cutoff.......
Im currently working on my PPL. Can't wait to be in the airlines (:
people saying auto land? is that possible now? i thought that was not applicable
perfect and smooth landing

Love the huge A380 shadow on the left...
Nice work Mr. Miagi... time to get home and prune that Swamp Cypress.
where is the cameraman sitting ??? on the outside of the plane....I'm curious..hehehe

awesome malaysia airlines !
awesome dangerous airline
Beautiful landing.
Why does a A380 have only 2 reversers?
i found this on wikipedia: "The A380 was initially planned without thrust reversers, as Airbus believed it to have ample braking capacity. The FAA disagreed, and Airbus elected to fit only the two inboard engines with them. The two outboard engines do not have reversers, reducing the amount of debris stirred up during landing. from what i read, its because the 2 outer engines are too far out for most airports, and they would cause a lot of debris from the grass area to fly in the runway, which is dangerous both for them and for the airplanes that will follow
Those engines have so much thrust available so that two of them already provides sufficient reverse thrust for an adequate brake.
+MLG M8 On the A380 only engines 2 and 3 have Thrust Reversers. 1 and 4 that's on the outboard don't have Thrust Reversers.
B747 has 4 reversers...
smooth landing

Smooth landing! Beautiful video!
What means "decel"?
"decel" means your autobrake is operative when the wheels have touched down. It is important for the pilot to call out "decel" to have an affirmation that the aircraft is decelerating using autobrakes. If the "decel" indication doesn't light up, the pilot have to be prepared to slow the aircraft using manual braking.
Autoland approach and landing?
Buck Buchanan Cat3 ILS autoland.
At #1:41, the automated voice says 'one hundred above'. Can anybody please tell me what it is referring to?
100 above minimums .
It means that the aircraft is 100 feet above the 'minimums' which is the Decision Altitude (DA) where the pilots must decide on whether to land the plane or go around.
100 feet above minimum altitude for visual reference of runway perhaps? Not too sure.
Its probably referring to 100 feet above the optimal ILS glide-slope range. Obviously it was good enough to land though.
It could also mean 100 feet above the minimum height for a go around.
Is the captain using the autolanding? If yes ..I thought its used only in bad weather and low visibility
***** Are you stupid? Are you one of those that spreads toxicity on YT? That wasn`t a criticism. It was a question. And by the way... that`s A380 not 747(assuming that u are a boeing Fanboy)
notircm Pilots have to practice the use of the autoland function as a training requirement.
For info, every now and then you need to practice Autoland to comply with the Low Visibility Operation validity. It is also to build up confident level of the pilots so that they will not hasitate to carry out actual autoland when it is needed.
stupid human being . i thought your parents is an animal
"Autopilot one plus two" can anyone explain it for me please
in this video, the pilot use CAT III landing,AP1+2 means that the plane is programmed to land by itself and monitored by the pilot
They were using autoland.. And they armed both autopilots to the autoland so if one fails, the other will pick up the job
A commercial jet has two or more autopilots in case one fails. Airbus have two autopilots.
As the pilot chose to do an auto-land, it's required he has both autopilots activated in case one decided to cut out due to a malfunction.
smooth touchdown capt..
auto land
salute and respect!
Why don't pilots use auto pilot to land all the time?
Beautiful, The perfect landing smoooooooooth
auto-land . Not manual :D
Perfect landing!!!
Great Malaysia with greatest Malaysian...
with god wills , one day i'll fly this airplane up ♥️
Malaysia Boleh!!! Damn good execution
Is it just me or do the RA callouts on the A380 sound more lively than the barking guy on the A320?
future office
nah they gonna sell it
nice smooth landing
Why are they selling all their A380s ? so sad...
Awesome view! Liked :)
That landing 😍
Massimo Weis autoland, no tricks there
can someone explain, why they use Autoland here?!
That's a BIG bus !
landing scene....good working captain.
Clearance to land just as they reached minimums ???!!!
The last video I saw of him, he said he's gonna retire.
Very nice gentleman video congratulations..
I can't understand some peoples on this comment they are mad just because the pilot used ILS the Airbus company created to make your life easier if not why the fuck they created it
Great video hope Mas can be top airline agn:)
What a nice landing.
Nice butter landing
nice landing b747
Was that a full Autoland in perfect VMC conditions? Jeez, talk about losing Stick and Rudder skills, huh?
Looked like it!
