    UPDATED AT THE END ...this has been a good solution for me so far. 2010 jeep codes -ABS -Traction ,esp-bas lights came on ..bought a 200.00 tester ran test and it came back "wheel speed sensor" , i bought one and replaced the old one but the light didn't go out ...reset codes , came back on. used your method to test the old and new one and neither one would give a reading. (which makes sense) so i ordered 2 more sensors (i will send the bad ones back) and update this comment after it is complete. OK here is the Update : on a 2010 jeep wrangler this test proved useless. I received the 2nd one put it on still didn't work so i tried this test and no signal so apparently these sensors have to have a voltage going to them to send a signal back , I traced the wires down and found a short , spliced in a new section and got signal immediately through the scanner and the error codes went out without even starting the jeep.

    Should note that this only works on a PASSIVE ABS sensor. With ACTIVE sensors, you need to keep it attached to the vehicle and use fly leads to hook into the system, then turn the ignition on as voltage is required.

    What if there's a dead spot or a drop out I don't think that test says weather its bad or not with out a scope it's not 100% just my opinion but thanks for taking the time to make the video and no disrespect by any means just saying it's alot to it for instance it's so easy to get burned. Example test that you did checks out then next step wire integrity and harness if they check out last check powers and ground at abs module before you call a 400 abs module and all long there was a dead spot in the abs wheel sensor it happens alot

    If the wheel sensor is bad, and I go to live data for abs system on a professional scanner, will the bad sensor be showing speed for that wheel? Shouldn't one of the wheels be staying at zero mph when the car is moving if a wheel sensor is bad?

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack 2 роки тому

      Depends on how the sensor broke.. it could be gunked up and just reading out of the programmed good range causing the abs light to come on.. there could be a tooth missing on the tone ring just as well and be showing a difference in speed..

    Not exactly mate as it may not be fitted into hole properly. The mark on axle being the pickup might be damaged. The sensor may be damaged itself so figures not as expected. To just see figures is not enough.

  • @JeffGagnon

    What about testing the other end of that connector? (The one going to the car instead of the hub) is it simply a resistance test?

    • @splash5974

      Jeff Gagnon
      I usually do a continuity test from the end of the connector to the furthest part of the harness(pcm) to verify if the harness itself is causing the abs light to come on...

    Can you only really do a continuity test for wiring seeing as the wiring is only relaying the voltage signal back to the ecu..? I guess i could test the same way at the end of the witing at the ecu.. just spin the wheel and if it doesnt measure close to the same then is wiring..

    If you disconnect the cable from the wheel sensor and hook your meter to that Cable therefore the sensor and the cable have no way of reading each other so when you’re spinning the wheel there’s no way that will work
