I would, very much, like to see the build for your laying/colony cages. Even plans and materials list would be great. Love your setup and looking to build myself a small shed (10x20) for my quail operation. Your cages would be perfect for what I want to do.
I may do a video in the future on the layer cages, although the design is almost identical to the cages in this video, with exception of the angled flooring. Good luck with your quail operation and thanks for the comments!
They are basically the same cage with exception of the angled floor. Both are relatively simple to build and I have videos on doing both the layer cage design and the growout design.
What’s the longest you can be Away from your quail with your setup. We like to travel on the weekends and would like to be setup to keep them fed and watered for 3-4 days
It mainly depends on the number of birds in each cage. If there are only a couple birds per sq ft I can usually go 2 or 3 days before the water needs to be refilled. Feed isn't usually an issue as you can add an additional feeder to hold them over. Water is always my main concern. Thanks!
New subscriber here. Going to go through all your videos starting with oldest first. What temp do you keep your indoor quail room. I live in Las Vegas, NV maybe moving to Bullhead City AZ soon. It would be just too hot to keep them outside from June -September. I look forward to watching
So I'm getting ready to tackle my cage build this weekend and I'm really liking the look of your setup. im pretty sure I can copy it pretty well from the video. is their anything you would change or do differently. ive seen a few others like your but 2'x6' fits perfect for me and I figure 3 cages high as well. Again thanks for the great info!
How much drop do you have front to back on the laying cage floor, Thanks. Looks like you have some strips on top of the floor also, Was this to give you something to fasten the front of the roll out to or some other reason.
The drop is 2" over 2 feet. The strips you are talking about is the framing of the floor and gives something to staple the wire to . Thanks for the comment.
Great quail setup! We're planning on raising quails for meat and a quick question if you don't mind! Some people say that if you put males from different hatches together they may fight and possibly kill each other. We're planning on having 3 males and 15 females (1 to 5) in the same cage, similar to your setup. Is it true that we should only put males from the same hatch in the same cage to prevent fighting? Or it doesn't really matter? TIA!
As long as you put the males together prior to them becoming sexually mature you will be fine. I mix and match my males all the time. Thanks for commenting.
@@CoturnixCorner Thanks Terry. Have you or do you ever plan on doing a video of your outside grow out cage (the bachelor pad). Interested in its design. THANKS.
Thanks for the tour. It helps to see the entire setup.
Can’t wait to see the cage build! Thanks.
Love ur videos have been watching them all!
I really like your setup! No need to disturb the birds!! For feed/water/cleanout!
Thank you!

Terry, what kind of lighting and temp inviroment is required for raising quail indoors.
I use 3 100 watt Daylight spectrum bulbs on a timer for a 16 hour day. Keeps the hens laying year round.
Hey Terry, the original cages that you use for layers seem like they are easier to build. Any real difference in use and getting in them?

how do you ventilate the room in the winter ?
I remove the air conditioner and replace it with an exhaust fan.

Allow enough room below the floor of the cage for the trays plus room for poop build up. About 4 to 5 inches.

How many quail can the 6' x 2' cage house comfortably as a grow out cage? as a layer cage? Thanks
I never go over 3 birds per sq. ft. Thanks
