Great job Terry! I enjoy seeing your videos and your content has inspired to get some quail. Will be looking forward for new content and your collaboration Myshire Farm.
That looks like an excellent brooder with a lot of thought going into its design and construction. I especially liked the tips on adding the wheels, using the cabinet shelf lining, and epoxying the surfaces to make it more durable and able to stand up to cleaning.
Wonderful! I also love everything to be easy to move around, and I am going to adapt your "hinge" to open the brooder to some of my builds. Keep inventing!
Hey Terry this brooder is nice about to start my hobby quail farm and you have helped tremendously building your incubator now next is this but can't get to the cut list link guess I'll just have to wing it lol. Love the videos thanks for all you've done and all that's to come keep up the great work
Excellent :) The idea is simple and awesome. You are always giving us new methods to renew our minds and make things easier for us. Lots of thanks Expert Terry.
Your design works great for an enclosed quail house, but most folks keep their birds outside. I really like your set up and have a small amount of envy as I keep my quail in a 10ftx10ft enclosed section of a 30ft covered layer run with 3 layer stacked 2x8ft cages. I use tortoise 3ftx2ft habitat with modifications. Half of the habitat has a screened door hinged the other 1/3 over the sleep area also has a hinged door but it's solid. The end panel slides out. I staple 1/2" hardware cloth on that opening which gives me the option to close off brooder for first few days and then open during daytime warmer days and close off during night. I don't install the sleep house partition and staple 1/2 coated hardware cloth on the underside making it easy maintenance like yours. The brooder is elevated a couple inches with simple block feet on the corners and use a dog kennel plastic tray as the poop pull out. I use nipple container on the outside of the brooder and a simple plastic feeder tray like you use. Clamp lights with 75W and if temps are really warm reptile ceramic bulbs keep chicks warm. I easily keep 50-60 chicks for 2-3 wks and then transfer to battery cage with overhead warming plate. I could build something like yours, but my skills are far from yours and it would end up costing me more than buying this $100 set up. I have two of these modified as brooders and keep on a 24"x60" table out in the run. If the night temps fall I can always throw a loose tarp over the set up to hep keep out drafts. Two of these modified habitats can handle a 120 hatch egg order at 75% hatch rate. Just another option for folks like me who can't really construct things very well. I appreciate your sharing your set up and designs, I've learned many tips. tortoise habitat - www.amazon.com/PawHut-Tortoise-Habitat-Tortoises-Enclosure/dp/B07VSFRM2B/ref=sr_1_8?crid=32EXYL7INNIHS&dchild=1&keywords=tortoise+enclosure&qid=1598017667&sprefix=tortoise%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-8 tray - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TZ5BZK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi Terry, will you coming out with video showing how many pieces wood and lengths, size that I need to building stacked cages? Also I bought the water cup but not a let to finding t part PC at home depot. Where did you b uh y yours? Thank so much for your help and wonderfully helpful videos from you!
Your channel has been super helpful. We just started our channel in January and picked up some quail yesterday. I’ll be building hutches like what you have here! Thank you. 👍🏻
Great video thank you so much for sharing I do hope you will do a how too for this brooder as I already built 2 of your cages and need a brooder to go with them. Looking to start a quail business soon.
Would really love a build video of this one as well! I'm Hating plastic tubs! Do you like the regular incandescent light? Or would using a heat lamp with a temp controller be better? Which would be more efficient? Especially in a climate with winters? Thanks for the great videos!
Mine is very similar. I used 1/2" mesh on the floor so I leave the shelf liner in for 4-5 days and also on day 5 I have them drinking from the auto water cups so I dont have to fill water and also from day one I have them eating out of a j feeder and by day 5 they are fully on the water cups and j feeder so week 2 is easy.
Thanks Terry. I've almost got your stacked cage build finished and I have an incubator. Concerning the brooder, how far is the heat lamp from the floor. How critical is temperature ?
With the divider installed I put 50 chicks per side. But I do remove them at just under two weeks and put them in the growout pens. Any longer than that it starts to get crowded.
My brooder has been converted over to 1/2" hardware cloth. The 1/4" didn't allow for the manure to fall through. I now put blue shop towels down for the first three days, then remove it allowing the chicks to be directly on the wire. Seems to be working just fine.

I will pay for time and materials even shipping. I tried to hit your link to the cut list but nothing comes up I have 26 birds now they are almost 2 weeks old and what I have isn't sufficient. On the top and bottom frame at what measurement does the two center beams go?
In this video where you place brooder under, do you have the plans for that size cages?
Funny, it looks similar to ours
love your vids! Question: where do you buy your clean out trays? I love that size.
I got some at Autozone. They're 24x36" about 1/2" deep and cost about $10. Depending on where you are, most auto parts stores have them.
Would you share the source of the waterers and he clean out trays?

Low 40s lol -20 here on cold winter nights lol
Will you build brooders for sale and if so how can I get a pricing and be able to speak to you about it?

Am I able to use just paper towels instead of wood chips ?
So what's to stop them from pooping on the tops below them?

Hi, I think there might be a little mistake on your cutlist & assembly documents. I don't think you account for the 4 pillar on the corners.

Orignally the floor wiring was 1/4" but I have since changed to 1/2" because of the manure build up using the smaller wire.
