This is one of those crazy cold war ‘revolutionary’ aircraft that's really just made to impress the other side
Like the XB70 or B58?
it's what happens when you give 60s-70s engineers a few kilos of coke and tell them to make concepts and mockups.
you end up with one or two feasible concepts and an inventory of drawings with specifications jotted out in ilegible handwriting.
not really a shock for the opposition by the way.
@valeriezorn9420 the B58 actually was in service though.
@@hughmungus5033
the op stated "impress the other side" not "never saw service"
neither the B70 nor B58 had much more of an effect other than forcing the USSR to adapt.
@@spazzey0 The B58 wasn't just made to impress the other side. It added a capability the USAF thought they needed at the time in order to penetrate Soviet air defenses. At the time the best way to do this was speed, and either extremely low or extremely high altitudes. That is why the U-2 flew so high. The B-58 was made to fly higher and fast enough to avoid Soviet interceptors before the introduction of high altitude SAMs.
If I saw that test flight in real life I'd immediately start running away after seeing it leave the ground
german ww2 design fr fr
It would be fun to see some sort of an all-wing aircraft, similar to the Vought Flying Pancake
he already did something like this on the lifting body aircraft video
@@prato_That’s a lifting body, not a flying wing. While the fuselage is technically a wing on both designs, a flying wing is basically just the wings of an aircraft without a fuselage or other non-wing features. A lifting body is using the fuselage as a wing.
@@prato_ that's precisely the exact opposite
@@thehornedserpentso like a B2?
@@elixer4583
The YB49 still dosen't count, the commenter most likely refers to things resembling lenticular aircraft ( not to be confused with the stereotypical UFO ).
i am kinda interested if you were to make the most inefficient working aircraft possible
Supersonic Farman 2222 strategic bomber? This thing have aredynamic of a brick.
dombrowski sedlitz?
Already did. It’s called the flying cruise ship
He just makes the most overpowered gas hungry engine known to man with the aerodynamics of a Jeep Wrangler
@@elixer4583 its efficient in carrying jets plus it runs on nuclear power so it technically dont burn fuel.
i hope flyout adds rockets around the time the game comes out
rockets as in like boosters? cuz he used JADOs in the nuclear carrier vid
Yeah it'd be cool to see m82 make a x2 kinda rocket plane
@@ItsJustBIaze Pretty sure those "JATOs" were just high-thrust turbojet engines
@@ItsJustBIazelike rocket engines
Rockets as in the engines? Rockets as in the weapons? Rockets as in space shuttles?
I NEED this game. Can't wait till it drops. As someone who mainly spent their hours in KSP building all kinds of planes, this is THE game.
I legitimately will implode if this game doesn’t release soon
i agreeeee
i hope they add rockets before or soon after it does come out
I don’t know if I can physically handle not playing this game for any longer, I NEED to use some of these ideas
Me too
Kerbal and Simpleplanes aren't enough anymore. Can't wait to get my best ideas from those games and experience in Flyout
Dude, I built something very similar (exactly the same concept, tri-tiltrotor with the same configuration) in KSP1 a few weeks ago. I couldn't get the robotics to cooperate but I felt confident in the design so I'm glad to see a variant in action. Nice work!
you were worried about stability on the plane already, and then you added forward swept wings? you doubled down on instability and I respect it
A really cool concept would be this as a rescue vehicle with something like floats so you could use it alternativly as a rescue vehicle
Obliterate the survivor with the jetblast
@@warcrimeswilly lmao
That flop at 7:50 is just pure gold
Excellent work! I'd love to See a Heavily Armed 4-engined Supersonic bomber Based around the SR-71
i would love to see one of those synchrocopters or whatever they are called. or your take on a chinook troop transport style vehicle.
love the prototype look of this one and it gave me a bunch of cursed vtol ideas.
The first flight test where it just does a flip and lands on its back... I just can't, i'm dying, this was so funny for some reason.
This gotta be part of the Prop Punk universe thing you got (i forgot the complete name and took a guess) that comes along as an early attempt at VTOL a bit after they made the first proper turbofan jet engine
This somehow reminds me of Dornier Do-31, with its huge engines for upward thrust.
I'd imagine a flameout during landing or takeoff would make for a significant emotional event
It's definitely one of the aircraft of all time... jk, I think that it's somthing the navy really would have considered engineering in the late 70s earlier 80s. But it seemed to function really well! Great video as always man! Love ya Messier!
Engineer designs worst vtol ever: asked to leave skunk works
No matter what kind of content you make ill keep watching it, but this was especially great
"A lot of my designs lack rearward visibility, and I'm trying to make it a little bit better"
*The big chunk of metal called an engine blocking the view*
Those rear landing gear had me WHEEZING, honestly pretty cool looking design though, surprisingly sleek in the forwards-flight mode
Mmm love the smooth, smooth jazz that is the mic with that new covering ;)
You should create a passenger airline for your prop-punk universe and use it as an “Air Force one”
I laughed so much with the voice over of this video, somehow your comments were very on point and self aware hehe
Just look like a good anime's jet. Maybe your best design so far
that warband song in the test flight is appreciated
I love the look of this plane, it really looks like a cold war type wacky prototype and I love it.
That is such a Kerbal aircraft, I love it! I have wanted to make a VTOL aircraft with a tri or quad setup. But... Especially after seeing this I will go with thrust vectoring like I planned from the start. Though who knows. Maybe I will give it a try and make my own version.
If you decide to make another vtol aircraft could you consider a design similar to the AV-42C
Or he should make a AV-8 Harrier inspired VTOL when proper VTOL nozzles and parts get put in the game
its badass and perfect for a mid to late 60s idea executed in the 70s.
Messier don't ever change I always love the story's that you open with in the begging and I enjoy the amazing ideas you have for this game , thank for making my days
Messier manages to make even the most absurd builds look relatively good
Cool, that's looking elegant. Slim fuselage is nice.
This thing is so cutsed I love it. In real life, all of the forces from maneuvering is placed on the wings and I wont be surprised if pulling up slightly shears them off the fuselage.
being able to model proper thrust vectoring like the F-35B or Harrier would be amazing.
I like the live recording a lot better tbh, it feels like I’m getting more of your reaction to the design rather than afterthoughts.
This is a really cool design. Maybe you could add some lights to the cockpit just to add a little detail.
when you're speedrunning the tech tree and try to get GERWALK fighters to work before the South Ataria Cataclysm superevent hits
It would be interesting to see how fast you can go with just propellers
You are so good at everything aircraft related
Playing around with vtol ideas. And considering you now have experience.
A Osprey inspired Vtol would be unreal, and might also fit into some of that "no jet engine" world building that is a gem to read and progress through BTW.
Would also be very interesting to see if you've got the creative nature to build differently to that v22 design, or if efficiency bites the bullet and brings you back 1:1 with the v22 Frame.
Otherwise love the videos, your content is a weekly commitment I don't see myself giving up any time soon!!!
Ok, I really love that design- yeah, it's impractical, but it looks awesome. I might draw some inspiration from it for a future sci-fi book
these kinds of planes to me is what i call art
Yeah this is 100% a mid cold war era x-plane. It is comprised entirely of duck tape, paracord, and sheer middle finger energy. It exists for no other reason than to spend that excess tax money so they can get the same amount to play with next year. It does not care what you think, who you are, or what you do, it will single out your house out of spite and its deeply personal vendetta against you personally, then crash directly into your bedroom. I love.
On a more serious note, the only reason why this design is that unstable in VTOL mode is the lack of a fly by wire system to balance the thrust of the engines. Ok maybe not the *only* reason but its the main reason.
Almost at 20k! Great job m82! I love your vids
I've never played this game but this music is so nostalgic
It’s beautiful. It looks almost like an X-wing from Star Wars. This makes me wonder what could be done if you took the main design elements of an X-wing or another movie plane and tried to implement it into a (somewhat) functional aircraft in FlyOut?
PS. Thank you for NOT telling us about future updates.
This vehicle reminds me of the "Lunar Landing Research Vehicle" especially with you description...
They have hinges? I can't wait to have the community make transformers and walkers.
It's surprising that this ended up being as stable as it was.
it would be interesting to see some sort of aircraft with no control surfaces, just completely maneuvered by thrust vectoring.
7:49, this part broke me hahahahaahha
There is a dedicated gif of just this part on my server since everyone found it so funny
dont know why but the initial test flight sequence (11:22) really makes it look like an f-14
This thing reminds me a lot of the boxwing VTOL SSTO spaceplane I came up with for my webcomic
If you could make and takeoff this crop plane than I'm sure you could do a variable geometry wing like the f-14.
this actually makes me think more about the Osprey than Harrier, just with jet engines. its actually kinda interesting, but its definitely a design that needs a computer lying it LOL
Hi Messier 82,
Love your videos. If you need any inspiration for new content, it would be great to see you build some movie, game, and TV vehicles. Just to start you off: -
• Bubble ship from Oblivion
• Mig 31 from Firefox
• Little Nellie from You only live twice
• SR72 Dark star from Top gun Maverick
• F/A Talon from Stealth
• Ornithopter from Dune
• Blue thunder and or Airwolf
• Thunderbird 1 and 2
• Eagle fighter from Elite dangerous
Somehow i get Quinjet (from the marvel movies) vibes from this plane it has nothing in common with it maby its the almost KSP jank and vtol. Still one of the best looking planes to date good job.
The way this works is kinda like the first generation of Orca aircraft from Command and Conquer
Here's a challenge: make an aircraft using the smallest of every type of engine. Do whatever you think is the most quintessential representation of whatever the engine is.
The inverted swept wings were really interesting
With all the truble you had turning the engiens it would be cool to see you make a tail sitter :)
Pretty good rear visibility you got there
This reminds me of when I tried to make a vtol in ksp without the breaking ground DLC or any mods
Alright. Time to hit Messier with the Timeout Stick.
You know the rules: no promising things in the game while not making it.
The harrier’s inbred cousin doesn’t exist, it can’t hurt you.
The harrier’s inbred cousin:
It reminds me a lot of an overcomplicated VTOL I recently posted on r/imaginary aviation. Almost the same engine and wings configuration.
*builds forward swept wings of any sort*
"Let's talk about stability..."
A pretty interesting design, i really like it, i imagine if is possible to build a blimp in Flyout. could be fun trying.
Btw i recommend you to lower the sound of the game a little, it's a little hard to hear you when the engines are screaming.
it looks like a dragonfly, in a good way
You have twice the engine thrust at the front than you have at the back. And the engines need to be equi-distant from the centre of mass to stabilize it.
I was thinking how to suggest you to build a vtol and a day later, you upload a video of a vtol 😂
I love vtol planes (i wanted to be a harrier pilot, so imagine how much i love them) and have been thinking on a desing myself, maybe it could be worth for a come back to vtols concept:
The fuselage would have little rockets on the side to push te plane upwards, making it a kind of vertical rato and short landing capable, but i haven't find a way to a proper static manouvering sistem to stavilice the plane while the taking off
I hope this gets released before I start school. You should also try making a large cargo Vtol aircraft.
It kinda vaguely looks like a ship from Star Wars and I kinda dig that.
this plane makes my brain feel good
I found your channel, and im happy i did
The truck is to make the engines lighter while still balancing the thrust to weight ratio of the back thruster
Gods that thing is hilariously unstable lol
i cant wait for this to come out
Love the vids bro, keep em coming!
More to come!
There's no longer any background air conditioning sound and your voice is a lot crisper so the audio is definitely much better!
Drop the "V-TOL" part of the design and this looks like an awesome "Engine tester" aircraft - Something designed to be able to have the engine nacelles take off easily, so different engines could be swapped in/out for testing on a consistant chassis.
40k valkyrie vibes love it
Tbh this would go hard as a starfighter in a new star wars project
you also could have used the two front engines counter-swiveling for Yaw control. just an idea.
You know, sometimes I look at the aircraft in Warhammer 40k and wonder how the fuck you would get those to fly in real life. Especially with stuff like the T'au or Eldar aircraft that looks just plausible enough that you think it might actually work. I think that might be really fun to try out in Flyout
It would be cool to see an aircraft like the V-22 Osprey
Dang it actually flew well
the only idea that comes to mind with this idea of setup is the halo pelican... with how they fly, they rotate the entire engine and wing.
rather absurd indeed
Building a vtol based off Red Alert 3 design philosophy
This looks and seems to fly more unstable than my mental health.
Reminds me of the Mosquito from Planetside 2
OMG he might have seen my comment hey dude thanks for looking at my comment your awesome!
Looks like a cross between a Yak-141 and an Su-47
hey i mean tiltjets are still pretty neat so its a win for me
edit: you could've gone for an Osprey-style engines at the tip of the wings imo
Not sure how viable it would be, but seeing an ornithopter would be sick as heck
Almost looks as if someone tried making a GDI Orca around 1953.
It looks like a F14 cockpit with a Star Wars Airframe
