Appearance wise, it reminds me of the SNCASO SO.8000 Narval. A French piston plane. But it had the same general layout, with even the counter rotating props. I really like the look of that aeroplane. And I quite like the look of this one too.
What about a f14 with turbo prop. I tried that on simpleplanes and it didn't work well lol. Mostly cause I wad trying to make a it ww1/early ww2 themed with wing sweep so yeah..
This has a pretty cool design philosophy behind it. I could see it being made in an alternate version of real life where jet engines just didn't work right. It also has a really striking silhouette.
You're my absolute favorite niche-interest youtuber at the moment - The quality of your voiceover combined with the meditative build of the craft is an excellent combo. Keep doing your thing ❤
Love the alt history series idea! Maybe companies with varying design doctrines like focusing on heavier planes, faster planes or manuverable planes for dogfighting?
i'm a huge fan of creating alternate worlds. if you decide to proceed with that idea, you've got my whole attention there. hell, i might join later to the party
definitely interested in seeing this as a series, always preferred the late WW2 and early cold war era aircraft. EDIT: regarding the ejection seat, I don't think it would be unlikely that even at its size the aircraft could have an ejection seat, the He-162 had an early ejection seat and that was very small, and the Do-335 had even great issues with tail and prop placement (solved by the same method as you, Explosives in both the rear prop hub and vertical stabilizer that blew them clear)
I absolutely love alternate history / lore serieses with this kind of stuff! As a dungeon and dragons DM, this kind of story telling is the backbone of so many of my campaigns. Seeing something like this, where certain countries have their own design principles and schools of thought, naming conventions, and aircraft development where jet engines never really caught on would be simply incredible. Very much so hoping that idea comes to fruition!
Like just thinking about the repercussions of that, I imagine IR based sensors and weapons would be less useful given the colder visible operating temperatures and Radar / TV based sensor suites would be much more prevalent.
Have you ever thought about making a video about what you think air travel will be like in the future. I would like to see your take on a futuristic airliner.
You sir, are everything I love. Alternate History, space, storytelling and hypothetical technology. I WANT IT ALL ! ! ! Keep making content good sir. Also Messier 82 is a pretty galaxy I agree :-)
There were a few turbo props which could go super fast. Though I remember one was so loud that it would cause ground crews to vomit because the tips of the propellers would break the sound barrier so it was like a constant none stop sonic boom.
Yes, the thundershriek. The torque of the turbine engines was so strong that it was pitching to the left constantly, as the plane essentially attempted to rotate around the driveshaft. Loudest plane in history. I wonder if they could have used the deafening loudness as a weapon? If it had such awful effects on people to begin with, surely it could have been made to be even louder and more powerful. Imagine a collection of enemy soldiers being suddenly buzzed by 3 or 4 of these things at once.
This is my new favorite video, the idea and concept is amazing, I guess great minds think by of arguments(of alternated histories)! This was an amazing plane by far as it looks like a P-50* (if I didn't forget the name and mistake a plane*) The video was entertaining! Nice work!
This might be my massive SAAB bias but this looks a lot like the SAAB 21 but with a Prop-Fan. Absolutely love it, reminds me of some of the CAPSTONE projects i see from the Aero track seniors at my school.
Oh don't be silly, we absolutely adore your rants about stuff while the timelapse is playing. On that note, dunno what editing software you're using, but you could record the audio before you make the timelapse so that you can talk about whatever you want to. PS: please consider making a BSG Raider, I want to see what that flying horseshoe can do.
I love alternate history. I think it would be pretty cool to see how different technologies such as stealth (ducted fan shroud around props?!??), supersonics and ARAAMs work out with different these design philosophies.
Talking about fictional company lore sounds awesome. I like reading wikipedia etc about all the company and political reasons behind, say, the MiG-15 and its engine. It would be so fun to have a fictional aerospace company that doesn't just develop aircraft, but has a whole universe of politics and shenanigans to go along with it.
One concept that could be interesting for this universe is the development of Moto-jets, where the compression and turbine flow is powered by a piston engine, this in this universe could produce a 'jet' aircraft as the sort of inbetween for conventional jets as they become a new technology, perhaps they could just never develop a good compressor and so thats why no one ever made good jets, so a piston engine allowed them better rotation and compression, and so the heavier twin design became somewhat common, I could also see the planes shutting off their props and engaging rocket boosters to intercept and then switching back on the props for engagement, making multi engine designs common in the setting. The combos and ideas could be limitless, im loving this.
5:20 Maybe to allow the turboprop to be in front they would put the radar and other equipment inside sing mounted pods on the end or bottom of the wing? Oh yea and if you are thinking of cold war turboprops the Thunderscreech is a good example of why propeller planes trying to go beyond the speed of sound are a bad idea.
I think this creates an alternate reality where rocket fighters also likely exist. We might even see a Bell XF-1 or something. Turboprops have serious difficulty getting close to the speed of sound and actually exceeding it becomes wildly inefficient. Yet at moderate speeds they can loiter much longer than rocket-powered aircraft. There might even be hypersonic glide interceptors.
@@levidotson6610 If the Fairey Swordfish could do ridiculous things with a 690hp piston engine, imagine what it could pull off with a jet strapped to it.
@@enderjed2523it would really need some pretty strong wings and then again it would limit the speed greatly but I would love to see something like that
just found your channel today if you dont make this a series ill never be back. In all seriousness though amazing videos keep up the good work (and please make this a series)
I really want to get my hands on Fly Out to try out ideas and create designs that never made it off the drawing board or what-might-have-been. I'm looking forward to seeing multiplayer matches where you could have air racers or dog fighters that has one rule you must use a fictional design or you designed it yourself. Now that would be interesting!
I wonder if in a world where jets had never existed, if supersonic props could ever be possible, no ones ever tried it with newer technology due to how impractical and noisy it would be, but I often wonder if it is in fact theoretically possible if someone dumped obscene amounts of money and effort into it. I know the thunderscreech was supposed to achieve that but I cant quite count it since it also had a jet assisting it.
If you're still wondering the fastest NA racing props these days are going 550+ mph on level flight. A combat ready supersonic NA prop plane would've never been possible in their prime sadly
This turboprop timeline looks very interesting. It's basically mechanical speculative evolution and I'm all here for it. What I'm especially interested to see would be this alt-hist world's version of the XF-84H Thunderscreech and a 5th gen fighter turboprop equivalent.
This is cool, awesome looking plane, as I do not have Flyout, I was wondering if you'd take the German Dornier Do 335 Pfeil (Arrow), put turbo props front and rear, and modernize it a little while maintaining it so that one can still see it's clearly a Do 335. Thanks
Would love to see you build some high altitude aircraft, maybe starting at things along the li Ed of the bell X1 and working up to something like an sr71. Would be cool to see if you could launch one from another aircraft like the x15
reminds me of the anime 'sky crawlers'. i dont remember ever seeing any jet aircraft in that show (though i could be wrong) and you mentioning companies brought that right back.
Turbo Prop World idea: I really like this world building idea. What if there was also a systemic reason for turbo prop domination? You mention that it combines the best of both worlds - speed and efficiency. Maybe in your world fossil fuels are rarer or difficult to access - like beneath the sea floor - and/or nations are so far apart that jets just consume too much fuel to make sense for regular use (your map in another video had many islands/continents separated by a lot of water).
This is such a cool idea, you should totally make this a series
Super pretty please a series would be crazy cool
Yes, yes you should
Yes, yes he should*
Series? Guys this could be an entire aviation genre. Like steampunk or dieselpunk.
@@marrqi7wini54Proppunk! The more descriptive Turboproppunk or Propfanpunk don’t roll off the tongue well at all.

its goofy but its the perfect kind of goofy that allows for some brilliant ideas and designs that can be truly memorable - a series would be great
You should really make this a series it would be so fun
Definitely want this as a series. I know flyout doesn't have this capability yet, but what if helicopters were developed before fixed wing aircraft?
Flyout added helicopters last update! It'd be possible
Great idea for a series! You could do this as well for classes. Modern heavy fighters, hydroplanes and flying fortress type bombers.
We can not only make this a series but an entire aviation genre.
I absolutely feel the same about turbo props being interesting and would make a fun fictional niche. Really wanna see it in gaming.

This thing is sick! Love it!
Gotta say this is probably my favorite looking plane you’ve made
This is interesting. Even just modding 1940"s -1950's era warbirds, you have a lot of material to play with.
Would love to see reimagined jet fighters, with their jets replaced with turbo props, but the same basic frame and fuselage
I love the idea of an alt series. This aircraft reminds me a little bit of the A1 Skyraider. Keep up the great content mate, can't wait for more.

It kind of resembles a De Havilland Vampire/Venom, but with a turboprop engine. I like it.
