I've often thought a very cheap modern biplane built in the tens of thousands would be extremely useful.
We could consider them like ultralights and let enlisted fly them.
Make them just big enough to carry one machine gun and one bomb.
We could also design in the capability to be readily converted to a pilotless drone.
Then any time we planned an attack on a near peer enemy we'd have tens of thousands of the dirt cheap things. All made cheaply enough that whatever they shoot one down with is more valuable than the drone we lost.
We could completely over saturate enemy air defenses with thousands of the things. All programmed to bomb a useful target.
While their enemy air defenses are all distracted with the cheap biplane drones our more valuable traditional aircraft could bomb the shit out of anything necessary.
When not doing that type of thing the dirt cheap biplanes could be piloted by enlisted. Flying close air support for ground troops. We'd have so many they could cover an entire battlefield.
Flying the things in close air support would be no more dangerous than trying to survive on the ground in a modern near peer war. With real pilots they couldn't be jammed or anything like that. And at the worst most dangerous times they could be switched to drone operation.

Like have two air force branches, one with normal, fairly expensive planes, piloted by professionals, and another that consists of those ultralight mass-spammed planes, piloted by some conscripted farmer boys and girls who have minimal training and are extremely expendable
Also, this design has same vibes as "Lightning" Interceptor-Corvette from Highfleet - cheep, fast, maneuverable, most of pilots assigned to it either die in service or return shellshocked into oblivion, smallest maneuver makes you almost pass out, can be equipped with missiles, and if in good hands - it can do wonders!

Use stingers instead of sidewinders and that would be a scary proposition. Setup in rocket pods you could mount 32 for the same weight penalty as the 4 Sidewinders. And spam 4 for the same cost. (Wikipedia numbers).
You’d lose some range (8km ground launched so call it 12km vs 35km) but since cheap but effective is the brief. 🤷‍♂️
    How to kill a Raptor.
Setup flight of 4 forming a 12km per side box. Considering the aircraft you could probably start them on the ground in camouflaged dirt runways.
Take off as Raptor is entering the ambush and while he is trying to workout WTF 4 ultralights are doing charging the most alpha of jets, go full Robetech on his arse and launch eight stingers each. Go hide now.
Raptors only choice is pull vertical and hope he can decoy/out climb 32 missiles. But more likely he will try to go cold a turn into 1 of the barrages fired from behind him.

Ok, hear me out, if you go into battle against a f22 with ten of those little things, the f22 will not be capable of taking on all of the aircrafts at once, and, as the cheap airplane is capable of turning like a fucking mosquito, that means that if you have a group of around 10 cheap ariplanes per f22, there is a very good chance of you wining, and because the airplane is cheaper than a lada, you can make unbelievable amounts of it. The only thing you would have to consider is being shot from BVR, but you can counter this issue by taking off just at the right time, as this airplane is very light and capable of taking off in pretty much any highway or even plane terrain.

If an American military contractor like Lockheed Martin or Northrup built it, you would have to multiply the cost by at least 5-20x and multiply the time it takes to complete the project by about 1.75-3 times.
