Well if there’s one thing if Brahms kicks the warparty off the Morningstar grendyls gonna believe Brahms before he believes the warparty after all of howlettes antics
I think Grendyl references an already established character in Warhammer lore (grendal). Among other things, his gender and full name (Castus Grendal) are known: The guy who cried Grendal, a dark heresy. Also the Shipmistress / rogue trader has absolutely no choice but to submit to the authority of any inquisitor at any time for any reason: "No one, except the Emperor himself, is beyond the scrutiny of the Inquisition".
There has to be something in it for Brahms as yes on paper Rogue Traders have to obey an Inquisitor, Grendyl is so distant and Rogue Traders so independent that all Brahms has to do to get out of it is go to one of Grendyl's rivals. So I feel there must be something in it for her, maybe a guaranteed exclusive contract with Atoma or a strong chance to be installed as planetary governor by Inquisitor Grendyl
@@dystopianchimp Dialogue does seem to imply it may be the fact she either owes a debt to Grendyl or that Grendyl knows the right kind of secrets about Brahms to blackmail her into his service. Pretty much every point of dialogue from Brahms makes it fairly clear she isn't at Atoma Prime willingly. Would make it a very similar set of circumstances as to how Lord Calcazar was able to subordinate Lord Captain Theodora in the Rogue Trader RPG.
In regards to Zola's stabbing for me always more unsettling was that she has lost thousands of prison ships - one for each reject - and still is so highly ranked ;-)
it would have been neat if subfactions were a thing on the ship and you would earn points for them dependant on who is the mission announcer unlocking certain weapon skins or cosmetics
The machinator sounds like the easiest possible pawn for Tzeentch to dupe, since they already operate along his preferred lines. It’s like they built the web for Him already.
I would like to adress the point about Zola being stabbed and its comparison with Jagatai situation. Zola wasn't stabbed with anything like Death Guard's plague sword. The Deathguard were carrying weapons blessed by Nurgle itself, infused with the most horrible diseases ever created. Zola was stabbed, as it was mentioned in the video, with poopy knife. I don't think that it was blessed or modified in any way more advanced than being pooped on. Even though it is still unpleasant and might give you a nasty infection, with Imperium's medicinal level (which is horrifoengly good to be frank) it is not a threat to life and can be cured if not over a day, then over several weeks.
You could be right! Though I would say that beyond the poopy nature of the knife, the Moebian 6th are now devout followers of Nurgle and would most certainly work towards having their weapons (knives included) blessed by the god - especially if the Admonition is involved in anyway. They clearly have a strong connection to Nurgle and so I don't think it is a stretch to say they would have Warp imbued / infused blades in use across the regiment
@@dystopianchimp then again - this warp infusion won't be anywhere that strong as it was back then on Terra. Those were most likely champions of the dead guard fighting Jaghatai. So they were the elite of the elite - the most beloved by Nurgle, during final battle. So their infusions would have been over the top relic level. In case of Zola's poopy knife - it is blessed by some random cultists on a backwater planet and given to a random militarum hereticus member. It might carry some warp charge indeed, but I think that Nurgle is more occupied with Mortarion fighting Guilliman at the moment of game's story to give any reasonable blessing to a random cultist. And moreover - although we hear of "witches" through Wolfer's comms, we can't really see any effect of them on the battlefield (apart from blessed units who are not that comparitevly dangerous, just a little tougher than usual). And I don't think it was a blessed blade, since nothing was glowing with green. And - to finish it up - she was surrounded by Moebian corpses - not admonitionist's. And, judging from how Moebians behaved in the cutscene - they were more of a renegade regiment, than cultists. They implied military strategies and didn't seem to use a lot of magic or occult (apart from pox-walker meat shield). So they are not very likely to devout recources and time into blessing each blade.
Though Zola's resistance is also nowhere near that of the Khan's - so the power scale really evens out imo. Strong Nurgle charged blade = almost dead Primarch. Weaker Nurgle charged blade = totally fine human? @@yukinoved4260
I thought the lady who get shot then turned into a Servitor was the traitor? It could also be possible based on what the Psykers have said about Zola ("Having an argument with herself without realizing it") there is something more extra-normal happening that might not necessarily have anything to do with The Cult of Admonition or the Moebian Sixth. What with the Water Barons that existed in The Torrent (before Rodin became the Ragged King), their corpses look oddly bald like Genestealers, and the colors + their faction symbol alone. I guess maybe Zola is a traitor, but not a heretic, maybe a genestealer mutant. It would explain why Grendyl interacts with her more directly, but also explain Rannick's immense difficulty locating a traitor if the traitor in question is not the lady that gets shot during the cutscene you get at level 30.
I think that the now-servitor lady very well could have been 'a' traitor - but whether or not she is 'the' traitor is another question. Something more complex could be going on behind the scenes as well - i.e. she was framed by the real / stronger traitor or was sacrificed by someone else to maintain their own secrecy. But yeah, as far as we know for sure at this stage - the traitor has been identified and dealt with
@@tanburanbu yeah, she was all smiles and giggles while the gun was on you, thinking she framed it all perfectly, but the entire game you had interacted with the other parties...they knew you got shit done, and they were already watching the player like a hawk. Grendyl. Grendel. Grendel is a member of “Cain’s clan, whom the creator had outlawed / and condemned as outcasts.” (106-107 fragmented excerpt attributed to 'Beuwolf', a story written long ago by W. Shakespire, 2nd M. dramaturge) It is so simple you missed it, and that is why he simply shows you his true bald heretic face in the beginning. Grendyl is -A Word Bearer, Grendel is Kor- *-Ack-*
Watching this video makes me wonder something genuinely. Which of these...colorful array of characters actually care the most about the rejects? Granted I know none of them care about us to that such degree but at the very least, who's overall the least harsh towards them? Could it be Zola herself? As she is overseeing their operations? Morrow as he too is a soldier and knows the value of one, even if they are rejects? Or surprisingly Rannick as he was quick to try and get the rejects out of what he knew was a trap set by the karnack twins rather than just let them die as he knows they are expendable? Questions like this always got me fascinated because I get very passionate about lore and stuff.
And now... Random Commissar: I'm in charge now! Look lively, don't you dare disappoint me! *Bla bla bla bla* I really blame the weakness of Interrogator Rannick who projects 0 authority, charisma, fear, anything. That or... Fatshark's writing.
Who is in charge? Grendyl, easy. Inquisition has supremacy of will - inquisitors can even revoke writs of trade should enough evidence, or a powerful enough inquisitor, justify it. Take Inquisitor: Martyr, the Rogue Trader there is a bit different due to her house being under scrutiny for heresy, but she is absolutely under the thumb of the inquisitor. People like Brahms, or a Space Marine Chapter Master, can theoretically refuse the "requests" of Inquisitors, but it is not a good idea. So yeah, who holds the true power? Grendyl, and since he is not present, arguably Rannick. In a practical sense of power you could argue that, yeah, if Brahms and company really wanted to remove them from the ship - by force if necessary - they could. They'd just likely be branded traitors and hunted down as a result. If they managed to kill the part of the warband on the ship, then it'd just delay retribution that bit longer. Even if the ship jumped, and escaped, the Writ of Trade would be nullified for Brahms individually at least, and maybe her entire house would be investigated or dissolved at the most.
Why do so many assume Brahms is at odds with Grendyl or does not like the warband on her ship? Going from her narration of the opening cinematic she seems to be ride or die for the imperium and ordo hereticus and completely agrees that hives like Tertium can't be allowed to fall. I have not seen anything that really points to Brahms even being mad for her ship getting taken over as she seems to owe Grendyl for something in the past.
Is there an inquisitor? Then they're in charge. However, a smart inquisitor will take care not to unnecessarily burn bridges. And given how Rannick is(for someone who's an inquisitors right hand and an interrogator to have his disposition is rare)Grendyl might be one of the better inquisitors.
It’s simple, Interrogator Rannick is in charge. The in game dialog points it out. Rannick is often referred to as “The Boss” amongst other nods to his authority. Not to mention at the end of the “Campaign”. All other characters are seen standing in attention to Rannick’s orders. That is a dead give away.
I think Rannick is definitely in charge as far as we, the rejects, are concerned. Though in reality Grendyl is pulling the strings - but with Brahms also holding many many cards
Hey mate - yep @robowolfzane6666 is correct for the head piece! The rest of the set is from the "Torveth, Butcher of the Syndian Reach" bundle that is actually still in rotation at the shop
Let's just say... this is all *without* Grendel. Once he shows up all bets are off. Everyone will bemd the knee to him and what he says or he can simply shoot them
Note, if you look at the official "Chain of command" the Rogue Trader holds relatively low authority when compared to virtually every official Imperial faction. They only wield huge authority they enjoy in uncolonized sectors of the galaxy, where they get to do essentially whatever they physically can do, to the civilizations they come across. Once the official Imperial forces show up though, they only have political favors and bribery to fall back on, not actual authority.
I would very much appreciate if you would credit me for the art of mine you are using on your video. You credited the music´s author so please do the right thing with visual art as well. Thank you very much!
Ok a not about Rouge Traders, they have just enough power if not more so then the Inquisition. An Inquisitor can not force a Rouge Trader to do anything, they can however offer them something they want.
Zolas behavior during the Karnak twins, really sort of gives the vibes that Rannik knows something about her, and this was as much a test of her as it was for the player. He casually dismisses her, and just tells the players to make it out alive...normally you can hear all voix transmissions between characters, but Rannik calls on Masozi to remove the team, but you never hear her reply...he goes "oh well, it seems flights are not available...well survive, good luck" I think Rannik is the traitor. I think he set up Zola with the information about the Karnak twins, using her as a means of getting rid of the team and also removing her from authority. Rannik also casually executes the traitor when you get to level 30, the traitor looks shocked as if she had been betrayed, she didn't even try to argue her innocence. I think rannik offed her because she was such a sloppy servant, always doing sloppy crap to get caught and leaving a trail right back to him.... Rannick is the traitor.
I think Grendyl is just a made up figure. The real Inquisitor is among us right from the start of this story. Who is it? I dont' know. But I have a feeling we'll meet him/her very soon.
Grendyll was only able to assume control of the ship due to his political tacts. Not because he has authority of Brahms, could be wrong though. Thats why Inquisition has to resort to using convicts instead of Brahms being forced to deploy her own military
Of course the inquisitor. Inquisition are agents of the Imperium, given authorities to do whatever it takes to investigate and uprooting enemies. They are basically lords. While Rogue Traders are just a bunch of sailors sponsored either by their noble house or straight up High Lords. Traders can say a lot of shit to Inquistor asking for support but Inquisitor still has higher authorities. They are basically taxis to Inquisitors. That said, shall a situation went sour, they will leave the Inquisitor if the problem are not to their benefit. Unless the Inquisitor ordered otherwise. If the Trader still does it, than he betrayed the Inquisitor, and should expect some shitstorm coming
rogue traders are not "just a bunch of sailors". They have a literal contract from the emperor themselves saying they can do whatever the fuck they want outside of the Imperium. That's a very big deal considering the Emperor is considered tantamount to god. They themselves are usually nobles with dozens of planets to their name, and Rogue Traders don't come from other Noble families, but rather dedicated Rogue Trader houses. Basically: Rogue Traders are second ONLY to the Inquisition, and even then, they can get away with telling them to f off in certain cases.
Wrong. Rogue traders has literally planets with armies behind them, with fleets, can do whatever they want. the INQ Outside in the kronus they are just retinue of people while Rouge traders can wage war againts xenos or anybody in the expanse. The inquisition can request help and capital REQUEST, even can request space marine chapters but they can say fck off. Play the new CRPG Rogue Trader, perfectly encapsulates what RG can do or capable. You can meet acolyte and a proper inquisitor aswell. Can tell them to fckoff ;)
Really? You think Grendel is real/alive? Because the vibe I get from the Inquisitorial warband is that there is no Grendel or if there ever was, he died at some point. And his former entourage are trying to hide this.
Just remember, no matter how beseiged by Chaos, aliens and rebels alike, the Imperium is always its own biggest enemy. It is literally represented by a two-headed eagle looking in different directions.
Inquisitor Grendyl is in charge period. It’s the inquisitor’s ship and crew to do whatever the inquisitor wants to do. Any other theory or explanation is dead wrong.

The voice lines of the stims having likely been there since before the initial corruption outbreak is also an interesting question.
Please do more darktide stuff these are my favourite videos about my favourite game! Thank you for this btw ❤
i think zolas insubordination also hints to somekind of traitor reveal later on
I dont know if it was said down here already, but don'f forget the Psyker dialog highlighting Zolas split personality that she is not even aware of. Wich might hint at a genestealer cult deep down in the hive.
Interesting! Though I think Castus was retconned officially?
There has to be something in it for Brahms as yes on paper Rogue Traders have to obey an Inquisitor, Grendyl is so distant and Rogue Traders so independent that all Brahms has to do to get out of it is go to one of Grendyl's rivals. So I feel there must be something in it for her, maybe a guaranteed exclusive contract with Atoma or a strong chance to be installed as planetary governor by Inquisitor Grendyl
Yeah I think you are definitely onto something there - or she simply owes Grendyl a HUGE debt @@klaykid117
4:21 Alpharius is that you ?
I'm guessing Wolfer was Zola's father or a former superior officer.
it would have been neat if subfactions were a thing on the ship and you would earn points for them dependant on who is the mission announcer unlocking certain weapon skins or cosmetics
Reminds me a lot of that one guy from All Guardsmen Party
The machinator sounds like the easiest possible pawn for Tzeentch to dupe, since they already operate along his preferred lines. It’s like they built the web for Him already.

Amazing vid love lore and What the song in background
Would be fun, if we eventually find out Grendel and Wolfer are the same person. Why would he would do that? Apotheosis.

Thanks mate - appreciate the feedback! Hopefully I will get my vids up to the same quality as yours one of these days
@@dystopianchimp I thought it was great.
But yeah, as far as we know for sure at this stage - the traitor has been identified and dealt with
@@dystopianchimp
I think rannick is the traitor, and he executed the "traitor" when you get to level 30 because of how sloppy she was.

Grendyl. Grendel. Grendel is a member of “Cain’s clan, whom the creator had outlawed / and condemned as outcasts.” (106-107 fragmented excerpt attributed to 'Beuwolf', a story written long ago by W. Shakespire, 2nd M. dramaturge)
It is so simple you missed it, and that is why he simply shows you his true bald heretic face in the beginning.
Anyone here after the locked and loaded update
And now...
Random Commissar: I'm in charge now! Look lively, don't you dare disappoint me! *Bla bla bla bla*
I really blame the weakness of Interrogator Rannick who projects 0 authority, charisma, fear, anything.
When I saw this thumbnail, my first thought was that someone used an AI to make a grimdark version of MomCorp CEO and two of her sons.
I personally think the Stims should be less effective on ogrens because of there size
Rannick looks like an younger version of Gary Oldman
CHIMP GANG RISE UP NEW VIDEO OUT LETS GOOOO!!!!!!!!
Much of it comes from the extremely rare cases where she narrates over missions, there she is much more candid about her position.
Heresy, we all know that the emperor is the one who has the most power, the emperor protects.
Too obvious
Woke up 5am. Fastest I’ve click on a video.

Once the official Imperial forces show up though, they only have political favors and bribery to fall back on, not actual authority.
obviously the Emperor
No one knows until they write up the story further because the story is barely there.

Ok a not about Rouge Traders, they have just enough power if not more so then the Inquisition. An Inquisitor can not force a Rouge Trader to do anything, they can however offer them something they want.
I believe that Zola is part of a Genestealer Cult considering her enthusiasm for wanting to save Atoma over being dutiful to the Emperor.
Sire melk ofc
Did you pronounce cadre incorrectly or is that how English people say it?
Haha a quick Google search has shown me that there are multiple ways to pronounce it? Ka-da, ka-dray, or ka-dree
Woo
Zolas behavior during the Karnak twins, really sort of gives the vibes that Rannik knows something about her, and this was as much a test of her as it was for the player.
He casually dismisses her, and just tells the players to make it out alive...normally you can hear all voix transmissions between characters, but Rannik calls on Masozi to remove the team, but you never hear her reply...he goes "oh well, it seems flights are not available...well survive, good luck"
I think Rannik is the traitor.

Grendyll was only able to assume control of the ship due to his political tacts. Not because he has authority of Brahms, could be wrong though. Thats why Inquisition has to resort to using convicts instead of Brahms being forced to deploy her own military
The inquisition
Pretty sure it’s pronounced Ka-dray, or ka-dree, not a ka-der. Just never heard it pronounced that way
i'm not that versed in lore but doesnt inquisitor have a power to deem whole planet to be purged
Yes but it's the last thing they want to do
Of course the inquisitor.
Who am I?
Some dude
Really? You think Grendel is real/alive?
Because the vibe I get from the Inquisitorial warband is that there is no Grendel or if there ever was, he died at some point. And his former entourage are trying to hide this.
Who cares? Your only duty is obbey, citizen, no question who give you orders.
Watch Zola wind up being a living saint or something.
Id like to think Grendel might be an AI/Man of Iron. Would be something interesting
Makes zero sense
Just remember, no matter how beseiged by Chaos, aliens and rebels alike, the Imperium is always its own biggest enemy. It is literally represented by a two-headed eagle looking in different directions.
The two heads represent the alliance between earth and mars
We do know that Grenydal is a dude. Mission dialogue from Morrow confirms this. I can't remember which mission has it though, if it is specific.
Do you think Grendel is a Puritan or radical inquisitor?
Also, 60% sure Melk is a traitor.
Inquisitor Grendyl is in charge period. It’s the inquisitor’s ship and crew to do whatever the inquisitor wants to do. Any other theory or explanation is dead wrong.
Honestly. Who are those people and who cares ? The history sucks. I care more about the painter in vermintide then all those characthers thogether.
