I think the reason for the change was either, that the point and click game didn't do so well (a sort of curse that afflicted alot of Call of Cthulhu games during that time period up until Dark Corners of the Earth), or that Infogames simply saw the opportunity to make it it's own thing.
Legend has it the uncredited voice actor reading the titles of the books (and some of the books) is no other than John Rhys Davies aka Gimli in Lord of the Rings (He was also in Indiana Jones and James Bond amongst others).
He was also Kingpin in a TV movie adaptation of Daredevil from the 80s. He was like a tech version of Kingpin who sat in a chair surrounded by computers and did all his villainy from there, as opposed to the huge hulking New York mob boss that you'd usually see.

Certain tile floors made from vinyl and asbestos for instance used to be popular, there's a theoretical health risk, but that asbestos isn't gonna go anywhere easily, and you can plain cover it over with another type of floor or carpeting, and that keeps it well in place. I've heard of some people who like the look of them to actually coat the tiles over in some sort of clear varnish.

Grew up playing this game as a kid. The opening theme (and the frog!) are very memorable. As is the gigantic, terrifying worm in the tunnels under Derceto. Clunky as hell, but what a memorable game.
Was not too uncommon for this time period for adventure games like these to get a rerelease with voice acting as CD-Rom got common. Sometimes referred to as the "talkie version" of a game. Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis had especially nice voice acting done for it.
Can't wait to see how the newer Alone In The Dark reboot goes. It's gonna be set in the old Victorian setting which gives me hope. And it looks like they'll be taking inspiration from the Resi remakes too.

Love the Scooby Doo-ness of this game. I don't think i would like it if it tryna be more gritty and dark. The goofy Hanna Barbara looking enemies gives it character imo.

Really hope that Joel plays the PS1 New Nightmare version, it was my first survival horror because of how late I was to console gaming and thats how fond I feel of it when I only had the demo lmao. Probably rose-tinted glasses, not sure.

I played this game a couple years ago and it was surprisingly enjoyable. Shame AitD 2 overemphasized the janky combat over creepy house shenanigans.
