It started out with Mark Moran and Mark Sceurman making a series of local magazines called Weird NJ which cataloged local urban legends, haunted locations, and historical events that would otherwise go forgotten beyond passing the knowledge verbally to later generations.
Before the internet and even now, their series of magazines have been a reliable source for people to consult with if they wanted to go ghost hunting or urbexing in places beyond the usual cliche places you hear about on TV or in UA-cam videos. They still publish the magazine today with a Weird for every state so other states could catalog their states local haunts and urban legends like NJ has been 🙂
They also make updates if local oddities are no longer around or if locations were demolished.
Best way to describe it is being able to have a book for San Andreas myth hunting with all the shit vetted out so you know what you’re looking for.
Can confirm, as someone from ohio I got many hours of enjoyment out of them as a young boy. That said, the ghost stuff never creeped me out nearly as bad as all the abandoned hospitals and schools in them.

For the "ghost" car, what was actually used was a technic used by bootleggers when it was dark. They would turn off all of their lights in their car, and this would cause them to "disappear".

Apparently there was a hole big enough for him to drive through underneath the fence that didn't show up on camera. You can kind of tell when the police car stops, the front of it bounces as if it's teetering off of an incline.
iirc from when i was obsessed with watching paranormal TV shows, it was covered on fact or faked: paranormal files, and their conclusion after testing different methods of driving through a fence was that the fence must have not been fastened towards the bottoms of the poles, allowing the car to drive under it by pushing the fence up

I remember waking up in the middle of the night just to discover that Joel went live, I think it was the Christmas Massacre stream, and watching that at like 3AM was the best experience ever. I'm a bit sad that he usually goes live at 1AM-4AM my time, but I managed to watch his recent Shareware Madness stream live. There's just something nice about sitting in the dark and knowing that somewhere right now there's a Swede yelling into his microphone in front of a virtual audience. Perhaps it's the feeling of "unity" coupled with good humor? I don't know. I just enjoy.

The skeleton is by a company called Gemmy Industries, and it's called the Big Head Dancing Skeleton. It has a few wacky phrases and sings the song Superfreak after every wacky phrase. These were made around 2001 so if you want to get one you'll have to look for one secondhand. It takes 4 AA batteries or a 6 volt adapter.
Gemmy also made a bunch of other Big Head figures (mostly related to Halloween) including a werewolf that sings "Clap For The Wolfman" and a monster that sings "One Way or Another"
