Loving your videos man. Hope to continue seeing this long video format with detailed overviews. Also the 35XXH has quickly become my absolute favorite retro handheld for golden age of 2D games. Up to GBA flawlessly. It's an amazing Mega Drive machine too.
Wish i had this video a few months ago when i was making the exact same decision! decided on the H after i got a huge discount voucher. I'm loving it so far, and it has become my daily driver. It's super compact, and i'm happy that anbernic is listening to the community and putting effort into updating the stock OS instead of purely relying on custom OS makers to fill the gaps.
I bought both. On the H, I installed batocera and batocera is just a joy to play around wirh. Games don't run as smooth as stock especially psp but no matter still fun. Like the speakers on the H and the small form factor. Win goes to the trimui smart pro. Screen is much bigger and i can play for longer sessions without fatique. I dont mind the sticks. But really you can't go wrong wirh either of these at the $50-$60 dollar price point. I keep on buying more of them for gifts. Gotta share the love of handhelds.
I was checking this video out to help me decide which to buy after seeing them pop up on my fyp on tiktok. Tbh 2 of the main games I wanted to play are Def Jam FFNY and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Do you know if either of these could run them?
Currently, batocera, which was on Anbernica, has changed its name to KNULLI and will also be available on Trimui. The first version is already available
A batocera fork called Knulli is also being built out for the Trim UI Smart Pro (currently in alpha) so that's gonna be a huge benefit if its done well
The out of the box performance is miles ahead on the H. I have the H and had the Trimui for 2 days and I sent it back. The Trimui feels better in the hands (on the one i had the triggers were even great, no pb with them), but the performance was horrible for me. I also found it way less intuitive than the H. Somehow since the screen is bigger the games looked more pixelated and ugly imo tbh, and I couldn't figure out how to scale them better (keep in mind i'm new to all this). A lot of games were not playing right, etc. On the H i have had no issues. On top of that, for the from factor that it has, i would want the Trimui for ps1 and above, but it can't play it, so it's moot for me. I'm aware the performance can be enhanced with a lot of tinkering but that's too much for me, personally. If you're into that then go for it. The H plays psp and n64 and NDS out of the box without issue (for me), so it's a no brainer. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
@@Sam-zw2kp haven't had this issue actually. God of War rund well on my H. Now, maybe you can squeeze out more performance on the Trimui by tinkering and installing another OS/simulators, etc... but out of the box the H is better.
There is a new OS for the Trimui, and it’s way better the stock firmware, and better than the RG35xxH (who also as a new CFW - MuOs Banana) it’s called CrossMix, and for a 50-70$ price it’s only normal that your limited to ps1, psp, n64
That audio test was... odd. You don't play with handheld console put on the table, and given that TrimUI has built-in speaker - it resonated with the table (which made it somewhat louder than speakers from "H" which were not facing the table). Correct way to do an audio test would be to actually hold both devices with microphone looking down on them (as your ears would be placed). It seems that TrimUI from your test has better (Stronger) speaker, but it really doesn't matter as you made audio-screen from the table. Beside that, nice vid man. Thank you for this review.
New revision triggers for TSP have basically the same travel, resistance and feel of the r1/l1. I was pleasantly surprised at how useable they were. Unit also shipped with 1.0.3 firmware. Unfortunately my unit had bad analog stick that quickly degraded. Otherwise my recommendation is to not buy a handheld based on potential future development, especially if you don’t plan to do any of that yourself.
The RG35XX H is awesome because it's super portable! I can easily slip it into my pocket. And if I want a bigger screen, I just hook it up to my 17-inch monitor. But it would be even cooler if it was a bit lighter and thinner, especially when it's hanging out with my phone in my pocket. Plus, imagine if it had a 4 inch bezel-less screen and the handheld size remain the same! That would be next level!
I don't find them very different size wise, very close, and both pocketable in that way. The curves on the 40XX H help a bit in that way too to slide in and out.
I've had my RG35XX H for a little while now and I've been having a lot of fun with it. First game i played was Tekken 5 from the PSP and I didn't encounter any issues with it at all. Next step is getting a mini HDMI so I can plug it into my TV
@inherguts2472 not sure , but why would you want too?? The d-pad and the buttons are my favorite. And the screen is absolutely beautiful. Specially on psp
With these two having such non-standard (so to speak) chips, I was wondering the exact same thing. Sounds like a bunch of other folks were, too! I jumped on the $50 TrimUI Smart Pro to grab a color I didn't have, so excited to see how the triggers have improved.
Thanks for the comparison. Unfortunately where I live the TrimUI Smart Pro has always been 15-25 USD more expensive than RG35XX H (and its price equivalent is the non-Pro one). I would've picked up the Smart Pro in a heartbeat if they're at the same price point.
Just going to say I'm glad I picked the H, haven't noticed said static noise at all. Although the white smart is the best looking imo. I have a Miyoo mini v4 that I use for RPG gameboy games, the H for pretty much everything PSOne and under, and my steam deck for everything else.
i bought the xxH in the end because i want a device smaller than my phone and can easily fit in my pocket for short play time while on the train. also the sleep mode works better now for xxH. Anbernic is constantly trying to update their software and I really like that.
I have them both here as well. I am amazed by the sleep mode of the smart pro as well. But muOS boot time of 5 secs on „the H“ compensates this imho. Also, i prefer the screen size and aspect on the H, it fits better to what the devices can play comfortable. I will keep both and see what still comes regarding cfw.
For me the 4:3 screen and pocket factor was the main reason to buy the H. Love it and for me DreamCast performance was the biggest surprise. Rayman 2 is a joy to play on it.
Great comparison video Joey! But no HDMI out is a big thing for me, so the Anbernic wins. I own another of their devices the RG405M and its perfect up to the point where I'm unable to connect it to a larger monitor or tv to game.
@@heymarton There are quite a few articles on Reddit that say the LD39 cable doesn't work , or if it does there is no audio unfortunately. I tried streaming games via a Chromecast, but there was noticable input lag. In any case, I still love how pocketable the device is, and am pretty happy with it. 😄
thx for the review of both, but 3 informations are missing: - can we easily play multi on both? - can we put in ont TV easily? (no hdmi for the trimui: usbC usable for that?) - can we easily add new core or emulators on both (that's often my probleme : I want to had just a coleco core or emulator and it is sometimes e big problem for such a little thing to do...
Use trimui daily, and after 1.0.4 and Vulcan update...there is also batocera in development for trimui Agree on sleep mode, its fantastic battery saver U forgot trimui vertical mode btw, and i love shooters on it
I have the H and I've been looking at the TrimUI like the guy in that meme. I think I would choose the H again over the Trim, but it seems the Trim could make some moves in the future with volcan. My H cannot bluetooth audio. The H has new Stock firmware, but you must flash it to an sd. The new stock OS runs way more games at higher end better. I know for your vid it was "out the box" but the H can play many Dreamcast and PS1 games with little issue now on updated stock. The nintendo DS screen real estate is nice for DS players. I like tante in the vertical arcade section on the H. It would look great on the Trim if you could achieve this, I'm sure you can. Thanks for the well timed comparison!
Right? I kid you not, I stumbled upon the Smart Pro just yesterday and wondered if it was gonna make me regret my H purchase. And this vid here drops. Amazing.
I had a RG35xx-H, still have my trimui smart pro. Trimui smart pro feels better in the hand, feels solid and premium by comparison. Screen is miles better. Dont care much about the hard triggers as I rarely use them and only for hotkeys
@JoeysRetroHandhelds True, though I think there's a good argument to fo X55 over Trimui Smart Pro in the first place. $50 vs $75. Larger screen, better shoulders, better sticks and stick placement for game streaming ect.
@@AaronThePony I personally hated the rgb30 and i'm avoiding powkiddy cause i had quality issues in hardware and bugs with jelos... x55 a little more powerful and more comfortable, but less pocketable than the trim ui and more expensive
5:17 I was wondering why mine felt so easy to press and use when everyone's being saying they were horrible. Got mine during the SuperSaver AliExpress event. Disassembled it to fix the no boot up problem to disconnect and reconnect the battery and noticed that they changed the triggers, basically adding extra padding to them. So yeah, can confirm that it should be greatly improved compared to those without.
I am kind of disappointed that despite ordering after people were saying it was fixed I got a unit with the worse triggers AND through normal use the narrow strips of plastic between the shoulder and trigger button is now cracked on both sides which caused one shoulder button to seize up for a while until I loosened the nearby screw
Super in-depth and I really appreciate that. Good comparison video. For the stuff that matters to me (D-pad and screen, mostly) it seems like the TrimUI Smart Pro is the easy winner. Interesting that you talked about how terrible the TrimUI Smart sounded yet in the video it was the louder of the two, although both sounded pretty awful. You don't buy a retro handheld for the speakers it seems LOL
Just ordered an RG35XX H. I feel like I'm a complete outlier in the retro gaming community since my focus is 80s arcade games so I'm hoping the sticks work well with games like battle zone, centipede, and sinistar
very nice review! indeed i took time to compare the 2. i choose the H for the portablility, and as ive already a powkiddy rgb10max, the form factor is almost the same. I agree that the rp2s is my favorite handleld for th emoment, but it's so beautiful that i have fear to damage it in my pocket. I chose the H cause i dont think ill break it. Moreover 4/3 for old games is better in my opinion.
I really want the Trimui Smart Pro for the PSP form factor, but held off of buying as it cant play that. Just dripped in more cash and picked up an RP3+. The H on the other hand, has a place for me. All systems the H and the Smart Pro play are 4:3 mostly, so it's really just the GBA where i see them neck to neck in screen estate usage. I really think despite how decent the Smart Pro is, it doesnt have a place in my use cases. Also, software support and connunity support on the H is better than on the Smart Pro, and it's one of the H's biggest advantages. Any issues with the H, the community more or less have answers.
I almost bought the Trimui smart pro, but i found out it can barely play psp, bad trigger, speaker and sticks. Dont like Anbernic, because i'm team Miyoo. So I got a Retroid Pocket 3+, but i dont like how complicating android is.
@@toycoma98 android isnt too bad once you get the grups of customizing it. In fact, the features "added" to current custom firmware in linux devices that are currently being praised have long already been in android, like being able to play music and videos, easy wifi/bluetooth use, tv out... But android has never been praised for these. Oh yeah, and android has an easier time with user level indepth customization, while linux custom firmwares are at the mercy of their developers, like with folder management, OS level config (like android's base contrast and brightness), and much more. Sure i love my linux devices, but i find it amusing that linux is being praised when its custom firmwares get features already on android, and android was never praised for already existing features.
I ended up using the shader that came with the stock os of the 35xxsp. I put knulli on both the SP and the H and then applied their GBA shader. Looks great :). Agree though, the display on the trim looks better and works better for GBA right out the gate.
The xx h get super better after the latest two updates dreamcast became native an now i can play 90% of psp, now you can play music and videos too, only postmaster is missing
Wait till the customs cfw by the communit, this device will become 64-bit architecture it will be possible to play portmaster and the performance for PSP/DC/N64 will be much better than stock OS.
I disagree about equal performance! "H" has a screen resolution of 640x480, while TRIMUI Smart Pro has 1280x720 and displays approximately the same frame rate. It's like comparing rtx 4060 for FHD and rtx 4070ti for QHD, the frequency is the same, which means the performance is equal? No, TRIMUI Smart Pro is more productive than "H".
Unless you are upscaling the internal resolution, the emulator is outputting the same amount of pixels to both screens, regardless of their respective native resolutions.
Both the games are running the same settings in the video. The correct comparison would be like a 750ti on a 720p screen vs a gt1030 on a 4k screen both running a game rendered at 720p. Yes I'm using low end hardware so it's easier to visualise the 4k screen is pointless if the hardware can't make use of it. 1 will naturally run slightly better than the other but close enough framerate. Similar performance. The trimui running the games on the video is outputting the same resolution with the rg35xx h. It's just stretched to the correct aspect ratio. It would be different if the trimui is running ppsspp at 2x and the rg35xx at 1x but that is not the case here. Saying all that the screen isn't completely useless, easier to run systems like GBA will naturally look better on the trimui because we can bump up the resolution and still fills up the screen with integer scaling. It has a better screen and possibly a slightly better performance on some games, not enough to make a big deal of. If you can't run elden ring on 750ti, you still can't run it on the 1030 either kind of case. It doesn't matter if 1 has 5 fps more than the other.
@@jamesyu5212 Graphics performance over the competition is expressed in stable frame changes and greater resolution. If you have 1080p and 30 frames versus 800p and 60 frames, the conclusion is obvious. And if HD 720p30 frames and 480p30 frames, what will you choose? It’s clear that in some comparisons the content of 1xpsp is stretched to 720p\480p, but this does not mean that they are equal.
@@sergei5893 it's a good thing Joey didn't say equal but rather " just about the same". The last thing anyone in the market for a low end emulation device is whether one can output 5 more frames per second. And what is anbernic supposed to do, render at 720p resolution and down sample to 480p just to make the one or 2 pedantic folks like you happy? Get over yourself.
Performance wise, basically both devices are the same, but if you want a bigger screen and 16:9 aspect resolution especially for GBA and PSP games, TriMui win. But if you wanna just play NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and other 4:3 games, Rg35xx is better
Why compare them? Because you have both, same as me. I like physical design of TrimUI but I hate the normal interface but Knuli is in testing for both so both will be able to run batocera which is what I prefer to run.
First time I heard about the static hiss on the H, as I didn't hear it before (and tried it before commenting, full volume and speakers to my ear, on Batocera v40). Could be a hardware issue on the unit. When I was looking for my 1st emulation handheld (on a budget) the Trimui Smart Pro & RG35XX H were the 2 I was looking at seriously. I weighed my choices but price won out as the price gap - RG was $52, Trim was $77 - was not negligible. But the trim is definitely a winner for the bigger screen, a boon to anyone with bad eyesight.
I managed to climb out of the - retro-gaming-hand-held-rabbit-hole a few months back and was regaining my footing. But then the Anbernic RG35XX H came out and I started looking into it and, well, I fell right back down the rabbit hole.
@@lookingforwookiecopilotI think "getting tired of up to PS1 devices" at least partially refers to the difficulty of setup and game/rom selection when it comes to the bonus systems (N64, DC, PSP). I've spent days optimizing these bonus systems on RK3326, H700 and RK3566 devices. I don't have the TrimUI Smart Pro (A133 Plus device) but that raw performance slots in-between the H700 and RK3566 (Vulcan support notwithstanding). I'm not personally complaining though, because we do this to ourselves. We push T618 devices beyond PSP into limited GameCube and even PS2. We push D900 and D1100 devices beyond PS2 into limited Wii-U. LOL, I guess this cycle of madness finally ends with the Oden2 or Steam Deck. 😅
Said it all. It's a never ending pursue of wanting it to work with something it actually doesn't. I have a x18s that people said it could run gamecube, but it doesn't and controls are pretty bad. So I ended up using my s20fe that are meant to stay at home for banking apps to play ps2 and gamecube, bought the day before yesterday a rg35xx plus for n64 and below, now after some searching it seems n64 is not well playable on it and no analog sticker makes it really rough for this. Now i want to buy the rg35xx h. It NEVER ENDS. And in Brazil there's a new law you can only buy 50 dollar and under products without an abusive 100 percentage tax, so for me, right now, i can't go up in category. 😅 Neverending pursue of what we do not have 🤷🏻♂️
I love the form factor of the H, but long-term use shows a lot of its issues. Even scouring Reddit, every day someone is having an issue with the H, (especially custom firmware) either power-related or network related. Not having syncthing work correctly is a deal-breaker for me. The Trim UI looks interesting though.
I have both. I think most of the issues on the H are caused by bad sd cards and third party OSs. The stock OS is pretty good ( better than the TrimUI IMO). If you want something really small, get the H. If you want s big screen, get the TrimUI.
People are mostly bumping into known bugs in a pre-alpha custom firmware. That should pretty much all be fixed by the time Knulli actually gets a stable release. Once that's done, the TrimUI Smart Pro is getting supported next, so they'll be running the same software.
I just bought one online, new for £50 delivered (arrives in a few days) - I've been wondering which handheld to get and if I'd get on with such a device - so at the low price point I thought I'd give it a try - I think there are more custom OS options for the TrimUI now so will try one out once I figure out what to do 😁
I'm super late to the party. Thanks for this comparison. I'll choose the H for compatibility. I think the screen won't be a big deal for me since I'll only play PS1 and GBA games on it.
Lucky! Loading any game or exiting a game produces static noise, even the custom firmware devs have said nothing they can do about it, just something to live with. I have it on both of my 35XX devices.
It’s interesting that you are the only one mentioning this apparent static sound issue, because other youtubers they don’t mention it at all and I don’t have the issue, maybe I’m def. And I also had the regular 35XX. Maybe I’m used to it? Interesting.
What did they improve in the newest version? How is it better than batocera koriki? Not arguing with you, just asking because I immediately put batocera on mine and never tried the stock os, let alone the newest version
@@jordandiaz5526 These are some of the issues I have come across when using all FW: MuOS HMDI support very early. You have to use MENU+X which is annoying tbh No game search feature Release 11 looks promising so once that's released I will check again. I think its just one guy working on MuOS so fixes and feature updates will probably be slow Batocera Performance is not as good as Stock. DC games struggle particularly. OS heavy on resources so battery drains faster Most UI and themes are developed for big screen TV/Monitors so many are unusable as the text is too small to read HDMI audio drops out MoD 3 Since its a mod for official FW its always behind (currently using 240130, latest stock FW is 240409) Introduced new bugs like sleep mode activating automatically when using Wi-Fi Stock OS Everything just works Performance is best on Stock ( especially PSP) VARCADE mode! Not the best looking visually
Latest STOCK OS has more emulators and cores than batocera also wifi works better, but the most important improvement is the performance, PSP AND PS1 works really nice in STOCK OS . Batocera has many bugs and issues
I agree the RP2S is twice as good but it’s twice as much so price to performance they are all about the same. RG35XX-H is a better in pocket device at least for me for size on Modified StockOS non of the other. VZW’s give you full functionality. The TrimUI Smart Pro is a great 1 device solution for anyone getting into the hobby. I’ve been beta testing TomatoOS for a while now and yes it’s an overlay like MinUI but with TomatoOS in most all cases it out performs the stock os even after the newest update.
I like my Trimui most than my RG35XX H, and I also like my Miyoo Mini plus instead my RG35XX H and my RG35XX normal, because of the hard buttons on Anbernics, they aren't confortable for long plays.
NGL the Trimui Smart Pro is definitely better. The only thing holding the RG35XX H back is the 4:3 screen. If it had a 3:2 screen on it, it would (probably) be slightly better than the Trimui Smart Pro. 4:3 screens are good for most but not all retro gaming plus ports are better on 16:9, 5:3, and 3:2 screens. Also the L3 and R3 on the RG35XX would be an instant win.
The TrimUI Smart Pro is the better device. I own it. BUT it's just for Pro's in tinkering and Linux knowledge. Not for the faint of the heart. If you know how Dingux worked way back, the TrimUI is the device for you. In the end you get the latest RetroArch and Vulkan support.
Love seeing your reviews and guides, but as I'm just getting into retro gaming, they are quite often over my head. I'm currently using my Samsung phone, the S23 Ultra, and would love a guide on controllers, etc., that would enhance the gameplay, as I'm not yet ready to jump to a standalone handheld.
I know i add to the confusion but... Trimui smart pro vs powkiddy rgb10 max3? I got the latter for 80€ shipping included in the initial sale while the trimui casted arounf 70, then it dropped to 50 and i felt I had made a mistake... I love my rgb10 max3 (except the name, of course...) but probably for almost half price the trimui would be better?

I've both of these devices and hands down, the Trimui is superior. It's got a much nicer screen and plays more games at a better framerate, including Sega Saturn, which barely runs on the Rg35xxh.
When installing batocera on the RG35XXH, do you have to insert the second SD upon first boot up to initialize that one for the roms and/or bios or should insert the second sd card after and go from there?
I had both devices. It is wrong to compare them. First you need to decide what you will play most - 4x3 games or 16x9 psp games. Personally, I don't like the widescreen being used for 4x3. For myself, I chose Anbernic. After this, Trimui feels like a cheap Chinese toy with uncomfortable joysticks and fake buttons. Anbernic works great for all pre-Dreamcast games and Dreamcast works great in Flycast Libretto. Batocera OS is very good and it is developing. However, Anbernic has a big problem with joysticks that no blogger is talking about. Joysticks have a huge dead zone and are limited to only 8 directions. You can see this in the joystick calibration in PPSSPP. This interferes with games and Anbernic has no plans to fix this limitation. It is sad. And yes, I agree that the RP2s is much better technically, but it is very ugly, it is off-putting. Plus, a small screen on such a large device looks stupid. Retroid should reduce the bottom of the console and put a 3.8-4 inch screen, then it will be great.
How come every reviewer says the build quality is great? Even a lot of comments day the say thing...even on the tear down there a metal plate in the front....are you just hating on it or being serious.. just wondering why you say it feels cheap? Thanks
These aren’t close enough in price for me to be comparable really. The trim is quite a bit more expensive. I’m not sure where you’re getting this for $50. At $90 for the trim you might as well get a retroid 2s. I still really enjoyed the comparison though. I Always wondered how the chips in these two would compare to each other.
There's no point, all of those devices are still RK3566, which puts their performance in the same position as the H and Smart Pro. Those are side grades, not upgrades.
I bought a RG35xxH; the screen broke in 2 weeks. That aside; the form factor is just way too small for my larger hands; and the screen I found extremely uncomfortable to read. The stock firmware it comes with is *absolutely* garbage. Then when you go with CFW, other issues can crop up (I had problems with audio out on knulli, and muos ran slow AND had bluetooth issues for some reason) So I got a Trimui on sale; enjoyed it a lot more; but no video out was an issue for me personally. The larger screen size (even just half an inch) goes a LONG way towards legibility. So yeah, just buy a powkiddy x55 haha. It has better performance than both (important on PSP and N64), has video out, has a much better screen, much more comfortable to hold... AND the stock firmware user interface is much much much better than both the trimui and rg35 lol. The only "drawbacks" are the sticks are not fantastic (But they are just as bad on the trimui and rg haha), and some people will not prefer the trigger buttons being clicks instead of analog. HOWEVER; there are *very* few games that would even support having an analog trigger and I find having a clicky R2/L2 works out better for N64 emulation. Considering all 3 of these prices are in kissing distance from each other now; the x55 is what I would recommend for most people... UNLESS you want a specifically small device to keep in your pocket and a small screen is no issue; then the RG35xxH has its purpose there. The trimui is ... "fine". I just think if youre getting that size, theres not really much point to not getting an x55.

Trimui is actually more powerful. H struggles with God of War on 1x resolution. Trimui can run smoothly on 2x resolution
@@Sam-zw2kp haven't had this issue actually. God of War rund well on my H. Now, maybe you can squeeze out more performance on the Trimui by tinkering and installing another OS/simulators, etc... but out of the box the H is better.
@@SIQmai I think the guy in the video was using stock firmware on both. He used frameskip on H but no frameskip on the Trimui
There is a new OS for the Trimui, and it’s way better the stock firmware, and better than the RG35xxH (who also as a new CFW - MuOs Banana) it’s called CrossMix, and for a 50-70$ price it’s only normal that your limited to ps1, psp, n64
dude was using power saving mode xD
That audio test was... odd. You don't play with handheld console put on the table, and given that TrimUI has built-in speaker - it resonated with the table (which made it somewhat louder than speakers from "H" which were not facing the table). Correct way to do an audio test would be to actually hold both devices with microphone looking down on them (as your ears would be placed).
It seems that TrimUI from your test has better (Stronger) speaker, but it really doesn't matter as you made audio-screen from the table. Beside that, nice vid man. Thank you for this review.
Always its great to have the hdmi out for on table sessions but the bigger panel in trimui is a huge plus point.
I chose the H for me.
Got my Trimui smart pro soon after launch and love it.
Do you recommend it? And is it easy to add games?
how is the screen compared to rg35xxh?
New revision triggers for TSP have basically the same travel, resistance and feel of the r1/l1. I was pleasantly surprised at how useable they were. Unit also shipped with 1.0.3 firmware. Unfortunately my unit had bad analog stick that quickly degraded.
Otherwise my recommendation is to not buy a handheld based on potential future development, especially if you don’t plan to do any of that yourself.
That's always my concern. Is it repairable?
It's really a shame that the TrimUI doesn't have HDMI-out.
It has 2 type c ports...another reviewer it'll go from type c to hdmi for video out...have you tried it?
@@jaynosowsky9708can you use a controller with the trumui pro ?
@inherguts2472 not sure , but why would you want too?? The d-pad and the buttons are my favorite. And the screen is absolutely beautiful. Specially on psp
With these two having such non-standard (so to speak) chips, I was wondering the exact same thing. Sounds like a bunch of other folks were, too! I jumped on the $50 TrimUI Smart Pro to grab a color I didn't have, so excited to see how the triggers have improved.
Time to do a 40xx h vs Trimui smart pro
Thanks for the comparison.
Unfortunately where I live the TrimUI Smart Pro has always been 15-25 USD more expensive than RG35XX H (and its price equivalent is the non-Pro one). I would've picked up the Smart Pro in a heartbeat if they're at the same price point.
I have no problem with my triggers, I received my unit in late Feb.
I ended up getting both Joey for collecting purposes. I appreciate the video !
Which one do you prefer?
You can do that with an LD39 cable
I got a trimui and a rg35xx plus
@@heymarton There are quite a few articles on Reddit that say the LD39 cable doesn't work , or if it does there is no audio unfortunately. I tried streaming games via a Chromecast, but there was noticable input lag. In any case, I still love how pocketable the device is, and am pretty happy with it. 😄
thx for the review of both, but 3 informations are missing:
- can we easily play multi on both?
- can we put in ont TV easily? (no hdmi for the trimui: usbC usable for that?)
- can we easily add new core or emulators on both (that's often my probleme : I want to had just a coleco core or emulator and it is sometimes e big problem for such a little thing to do...
Thanks for the comparison Joey, I have both consoles and what you say is absolutely true. Nice analysis.
Use trimui daily, and after 1.0.4 and Vulcan update...there is also batocera in development for trimui
Agree on sleep mode, its fantastic battery saver
U forgot trimui vertical mode btw, and i love shooters on it
I returned my Trimui because the closed SO. If I can install Batocera I might reconsidere it. Thanks for commenting it!
Thanks for that video. I didn't know which one to get. I took the trimui and I don't regret it. Subscribed ;)
Sleep Mode is the key for me! I will receive my trimui this weeks lets see if i get the trigger fixed one, thanks for the video
Fantastic comparison my friend
The sexy man himself, thank you sir.
@JoeysRetroHandhelds How well does Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask play on the Trimui Smart Pro? I'm very curious on your standpoint
Ay another banger, thanks Joey!
The H can do BT Audio with Batocera/Knulli and some other CFWs.
When I was debating between the 2. I didn't really see the point of a 16:9 display unless it did PSP really well.
some ds games are nice on it with the screens side by side. ds games that need a stylus are miserable on it due to no touch screen though.
@@inimitableminimalist yea I'd just end up using my phone with a DSP-3 . larger screen and more versatile.
5" 16:9 1280x720 gives you a much better 4:3 image than the H. It's larger and higher resolution.
Thanks for the video, I was curious about this as well.
Dude, random comparisons between fashion clippers. I love the idea.
Good Comparison, Really helps with and Overall view of what it would be like to own either of these.
Honestly the next step for the Trimui Smart Pro is a Powkiddy X55, similar performance and a large 5.5 in screen around $75.
That would just be a sidegrade, no real reason to ever make that switch.
Trimui Smart Pro 2 is going to be a huge improvement, well in theory, the first one is already a good emulation console.
when is that comming out
Super in-depth and I really appreciate that.

Okay I'm hate watching this as I told you I would. The trimui pro wins, my official prediction!
Wait till the customs cfw by the communit, this device will become 64-bit architecture it will be possible to play portmaster and the performance for PSP/DC/N64 will be much better than stock OS.
idk i got my Smart Pro this week and so far i don't mind the triggers. theyre serviceable imo.
So Odin 2 is more powerful than the steam deck right? Because a 1080p60 display is bigger than 800p60 while displaying the same frame rate?
Muroon.
Get over yourself.
if i buy two trim ui can i connect them both tru wifi or BT to play the same exact game as 2 players?
Yes you can, wifi
Performance wise, basically both devices are the same, but if you want a bigger screen and 16:9 aspect resolution especially for GBA and PSP games, TriMui win.
But if you wanna just play NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and other 4:3 games, Rg35xx is better
Good vid. Powkiddy RGB10 Max 3 vs Trimui Smart Pro next pls.
Great video! Thanks, helped a lot.
The h has a HDMI output so you can hook up wireless controllers and play multi player on the flat screen tv. That's a must have for me
I managed to climb out of the - retro-gaming-hand-held-rabbit-hole a few months back and was regaining my footing. But then the Anbernic RG35XX H came out and I started looking into it and, well, I fell right back down the rabbit hole.
I think that the Trimui Smart Pro is so much better now with the CrossMix OS release. So easy to use too.
I get tired of the up to ps1 devices😅
.. Somehow we're regressing here.
😅 Neverending pursue of what we do not have 🤷🏻♂️
Then buy a Steam deck Oled, Legion Go, Ally X, Odin 2
I got both and Trimui, despite it having a bit worse D-pad and analogs, still is my choice
Syncthing can be run on H?
@@hrsfic Yes, and it works well.
I just bought one online, new for £50 delivered (arrives in a few days) - I've been wondering which handheld to get and if I'd get on with such a device - so at the low price point I thought I'd give it a try - I think there are more custom OS options for the TrimUI now so will try one out once I figure out what to do 😁
How did you know my exact dilemma at the moment 😂
I love my TrimUI Smart Pro. I was quite surprised actually. An underdog that has become one of my favs!
I'm super late to the party. Thanks for this comparison. I'll choose the H for compatibility. I think the screen won't be a big deal for me since I'll only play PS1 and GBA games on it.
Static noises? Maybe the one you have is bad. My RG35XX H is excellent! I love it with Batocera!
No, it's applicable to every unit. It's a known downside.
I honestly am pressing my ear up against the speaker and I can’t hear anything. 🫤
Can't comment on other UA-camrs, just going off my experience and devs as well as others who notice the same thing :)
Either way, not a big deal.
Latest stock fw for the H is the best fw for that device at the moment
What did they improve in the newest version? How is it better than batocera koriki? Not arguing with you, just asking because I immediately put batocera on mine and never tried the stock os, let alone the newest version
@@jordandiaz5526 These are some of the issues I have come across when using all FW:
MuOS
HMDI support very early. No audio over HDMI yet
Sound bug where your sound drops out completely and you have to press volume button 12 times for it to come back. Issue is replicated on almost every reboot so its annoying
No "one button" press to bring up quick menu. You have to use MENU+X which is annoying tbh
No game search feature
Release 11 looks promising so once that's released I will check again. I think its just one guy working on MuOS so fixes and feature updates will probably be slow
Batocera
Performance is not as good as Stock. DC games struggle particularly.
OS heavy on resources so battery drains faster
Most UI and themes are developed for big screen TV/Monitors so many are unusable as the text is too small to read
HDMI audio drops out
MoD 3
Since its a mod for official FW its always behind (currently using 240130, latest stock FW is 240409)
Introduced new bugs like sleep mode activating automatically when using Wi-Fi
Stock OS
Everything just works
Performance is best on Stock ( especially PSP)
VARCADE mode!
Not the best looking visually
Latest STOCK OS has more emulators and cores than batocera
also wifi works better, but the most important improvement is the performance, PSP AND PS1 works really nice in STOCK OS .
Got the h but it feels uncomfortable for me, just ordered the trimui for 45 bucks hopefully it feels alot better.
Literally just bought an H and saw this video. Kinda regretting my decision haha

I'm interested in the display unit behind you. Where'd you get it?
Ikea Skadis.
would you consider doing a moonlight demo with the smart pro?
Can they play saturn?
Like all everyone ever mentions is psx, 64, DC and PSP but i want to play saturn games
I also would like to know
I had both devices.
The day I start playing a handheld based on LOOKS is a glorious day indeed! 😊
How come every reviewer says the build quality is great? Even a lot of comments day the say thing...even on the tear down there a metal plate in the front....are you just hating on it or being serious.. just wondering why you say it feels cheap? Thanks
on the flip N54 and DC are perfect
Is a Bluetooth/DS4 controller compatible with the Trimui for playing Retroarch, as it is with the Ambernic [...]H?
It is not.
Can you play wirelessly against anbernic player with the trimui? Like you can with an anbernic vs another anbernic?
These aren’t close enough in price for me to be comparable really. The trim is quite a bit more expensive. I’m not sure where you’re getting this for $50. At $90 for the trim you might as well get a retroid 2s. I still really enjoyed the comparison though. I Always wondered how the chips in these two would compare to each other.
They're the same price. I show it in the video as well :)
Just ordered a TSP for $55 and free shipping from Aliexpress, and it looks like they've gone on flash sales for as low as $35.
Whoaa, how did you make BanjoTooie work that well on the H, what cfw, emulator/core, settings?
i use parallel core, CPU core i use dynamic and GFX plugin i use gln64. works for me
minor graphical errors with the loading puzzle screen. but works nicely
next step up for the trimui is the X55 or RGB10 Max 3 to me, next step up for the RG35XX H is the RG353V for 70 USD imho
Then when you go with CFW, other issues can crop up (I had problems with audio out on knulli, and muos ran slow AND had bluetooth issues for some reason)
So I got a Trimui on sale; enjoyed it a lot more; but no video out was an issue for me personally.
"fine". I just think if youre getting that size, theres not really much point to not getting an x55.
if i have an Anbernick RG35XXPLUS, should i buy this one? i want a horizontal console for Retro gaming but I don't know what to buy
any suggestions? also I considered the retroid poket 4
thanks
for moonlight whats best
Hii joey , after i change my sd card os to new branded sd card os . Im using anbernic stock os from the website but My psp emulator is missing . How do we put the psp emulator back in the stock os ? Thank you .
chances are you have the emulator but dont have games in the folder. The folder/emulator wont show up in the h unless you actually have games in the folder it can run i believe
If no L3 AND R3 Then How Do I Get Into The Menus Of Arcade Games Like Ms Pac Man , Rompers ETC ....
Trimui for me because I have big hands
Does the trimui have wireless two player connectivity?
I just got the miyomini plus i just play ps1 Under and like i have it on My backpack or pocket i can pick it up fast at any time and play but only issues is that i can get to pass 1h of play time with out resting My fingers get all crap 😅 but lets see if theres any recomendable grips for mini plus ?
How about rgb30? Which one is better?
the screen is insanely good for (pre)4:3-games. so you should think about which games you play most.
I have both, I prefer the smart pro 🎉
He forgot an important thing on the H you can hook it up to the tv and connect controllers via Bluetooth I wonder if you can do that in the trimui pro
