On the question at the end of the video: there are two things the Voltra would need to do to get into the home gym functional trainer conversation. First and foremost, they would need to figure out how to sync two units so they can work together in two arm exercises without noticeable jerkiness. Then they need to figure out how to get the price point for two units much lower. The devices provide additional value, but two units would cost around $4000. For that, you can get an Arcadia and have enough left over to get a pretty stellar rack … or belt squat system … or, well you get the picture. Knock $300 off the cost of each unit and then maybe people will start to see the value as a high end home gym functional trainer.
I've had one for about 2 years now and think it's great for the price. It's not commercial gym quality but at my house I'm the only one using it. My only complaint with it was how long it took me to attach all the pulleys and cable. If you have one enjoy!
I honestly do have one and love it. I just always wanted coops take on it before I bought it. It's a review that I think he's missing right now, especially with all of the functional trainers he's been reviewing lately. Thanks for the reply.@@albertfischer8804
There's a few reviews on the Titan on UT. I picked up one before covid at $179. For that cost you don't get: thick steel, quality pulleys, and really low quality welds and no adapters for olympic plates, nor etched numbering on the carriage post which is 1.5" x 1.5" tubing. Had I know about the BOS FT, I think I would have gone with them. I recommend getting the tall version.
@@prtmeister9680We're talking about two different pieces of equipment. The functional trainer actually has weight horns for olympic plates. You can't use "standard" plates on it. You are talking about the short cable tower. I have the tall version of that. You are correct in saying that both the short and tall cable towers are setup for standard plates not olympic. The functional trainer retails for about $1000 or slightly above depending on if you catch a sale or not.
Please, please, please review a wall mounted REP Athena which would add bench integration capability but at only a 27" depth. I was really surprised when you spoke to the Arcadia and didn't talk the wall mounted Athena.
The voltra is super cool. At the end of the day though, I think I’ll always prefer non electronic equipment- don’t have to charge it; if the company goes under, I’ll typically have an easy enough time making my own repairs (like replacing a pulley); and things like calibration aren’t a concern so resistance is going to stay consistent potentially decades into its lifetime. Not saying high tech stuff can’t do some of the above, but mass is mass. Thanks for the good review!
Compared to the NOHrD slim beam, this thing is massive. Not to mention the eyesore issue with most gym equipment, this one included. Doesn’t look great in the living room or garage.
"Numbers" instead of "Weight" on the stack is an automatic No from me, dawg. Why do companies still do that? Are you really trying to save 38 cents a unit or whatever by having fewer numbers than the weight on the stack? "6" is so unhelpful if I'm ever working out anywhere but my garage.
There is literally no way to compare the weight feel between machines with multiple pulleys. 50lbs on one machine is not 50lbs on a different machine. Weight numbers would be useless. This is why people use barbells and free weights.
I want a comparison and or stand alone video on the rep fit wall mounted Athena please! It’s is a compact rack and functional trainer all in one . Surprised you have not reviewed it yet.
Getting my daily GGR fix! Would love to see a video on equipment layout theory and different garage types. I have a two car garage with a 6 post Rep rack and Ares set up, Rogue Echo bike, Concept 2 rower, some leg extension leg curl and other stuff. Always love looking how people set there stuff up in the never ending pursuit of “how can I make my gym better??”. It’s cool to see how your gym is set up but I think it’s more interesting on the thought of why did you pick that spot for the piece.
If you are starting with nothing at all, here are the comparisons between Voltra I and Anker 7. Voltra I: For $2099, you get 200 lbs resistance with very fine increments and multiple modes like resistance band, eccentric, damper, or chain. No mount, No handle, No rack for attaching it to the wall, No floor plate. To use it, you need to mount it to something. $39 for a basic one-handed handle, $499 for a wall-mounted mini-rack, and $99 for a pair of rack mounts totaling just under $2750. You can opt for the travel platform instead of the mini-rack and rack mounts, bringing that down to just under $2350 total, but you lose out on vertical cable exercises in exchange for more traditional dumbell-style freeweight exercises. If you want a two-handed barbell style handle, it will cost an extra $199 for a grand total of $2950 for the mini-rack and mounts or $2550 for the platform. Anker 7: For ~$1699 total, you get 2 stacks of 200 lbs resistance EACH with adjustable increments of 10 lbs per plate for the first 5 plates and 15 lbs per plate for the next 10, a wall-mounted rack with 2 vertically adjustable cable pulleys, 4 one-handed handles (2 short strap and 2 long strap), a leg boot for leg exercises, and hanging hooks for the accessories
So glad you did this review. I have limited space and really need a functional trainer. Was weeks away from settling on 2 Ancores, but now I'm gonna order this b
I think it's a very cool option to have such a thin functional trainer attached to the wall. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of the poly system from the 18 00s. With some of these smart devices coming out where you can change the eccentric and concentric. Once they get down into the $500 range and still do more than 100 lb, it becomes a difficult option to buy a full functional trainer unless you really need it for your gym. That said, this design in such a small space could easily be added to the back or the front of something like a Smith machine with the center part able to do normal barbell related movements. The other critique I would give personally is that it didn't have enough band peg places... Or the ability to add bands to the weight stack itself. Both are pretty easy fixes but would have really been a perfect place to anchor a couple more features with very little effort.
Yeah I’ve been thinking a lot about that last point about the beyond power voltra. I started leaning more toward a functional trainer until seeing that. Now I’m more thinking about a power or half rack that I could add the voltra to later on when it’s cheaper or can do more weight
Can you do a review on the SLIM PROFILE WALL-MOUNTED FUNCTIONAL TRAINER SINGLE COLUMN 2000? This is supposed to be wall mounted unit, only 4” off the wall. Also since independent from one another you should be able to set distance apart to help get the stretch not inherent in most dual stack functional trainers.
For me to adopt Voltra: Needs a 5+ year warranty with proper/proven warranty support, needs to prove reliable over time, price needs to come down. It's promising. It's not there yet.
@@jallen2827 it can be either wall mounted or rack mounted. Coop did a review on it a few months ago, as did Gluck's gym. It's a popular option on Bells of Steel website.

I bought the Torque F9 used, and it has a small footprint, but this one definitely is king for slim functional trainers. As for the price, not sure as in Canada Torque gets pricey. Some local dealer wanted to charge me almost 5000$CAD for the Torque F9 new with bench and I found one on FB Marketplace for 2000. Price aside if this gives the same experience as Torque F9 and takes even less space then that l, I think its worth the price. This would be a buyer who has very limited space but wants a functional trainer as part of their home gym.
Can you review some of the Crandall fitness equipment? Looks like they have a nice functional trainer, lat pull down/ low row, and trolley arms that move freely.
Coop, i think the reason they number the weights instead of putting an actual weight number on the plates is because the pulleys multiply the weight differently in different configurations. The stacks at my gym have inaccurate weight numbers because of this and it's even more annoying that the numbers are misleading than if there were no weights at all.
I include a strain gauge in my gym kit and have tested a bunch of cable machines in the area, and there are some which are as low as 55% of stated weight and at my local gym these are 10% over stated weight. I definitely prefer a weight label on the stack since this is how most people will record workouts, but is not something which would bother me since I would have to test if I used another device.
I have a titan wall mount plate loaded..it’s fine especially for the price I don’t use it a ton since I do more CrossFit/Functional training. I think the Beyond Power Voltra will be a game changer but a little too pricy for me RN
Great review! I'm from Germany and I really envy you us guys regarding the options for Homegym equipment you've got! In Europe we don't have nearly that much equipment to choose from, so building a homegym that is as kitted out as one of yours is able to be is really hard. For me, that functional trainer would be a great option and if I would be able to buy one, I would definitely do it!! The slim form factor would be PERFECT for my space BUT the listing in pounds is just not relevant for everyone else in the world, so I really would love to see more companies opening to international markets and having an option with kg increments. I don't think it would be that hard to produce the weight stacks in kg, so I don't understand why so few companies are actually doing it And that bothers me with a lot of US based companys
You should do a review on the cortex revolock v2 adjustable dumbells/barbells/kettlebells. They can transition between all three or you can get the heavier version that can only transition between dumbells/barbells.

6:49 while this gets noted in practically any review involving equipment with a pulley, isn't the distinction not about the material of the wheel but about a bushing or bearing type? someone please answer how does this compare to the french fitness wall mounted dual functional trainer?
I have the archon and it’s amazing. But I think they went out of business cus their website is gone.
How does one setup a low row bar with this unit?

Thoughts on Fettle Fitness plate loaded machines
i am so so so so so upset :( I finally caved and bought the Anker 3 for black friday last year despite its flaws because I figured I really wanted it and it would probably be a long time before someone fixed every complaint I had with it. This LITERALLY fixed every single one of my complaints not even 4 months later. :( What am I supposed to do? Take apart my Anker 3 and sell it for half price if I am lucky and upgrade to this? Damn...
Coop, time to trim the stache!
