I still go to a commercial gym (on a great, cheap rate from when it opened) but I have adjustable dumbbells+bench+bands at home. Going hybrid is underrated. I can still go to the gym for specialized equipment/big lifts but I can keep in the accessory work from home where its more schedule friendly, so I don't have to lock myself down for 90+ minute sessions.
Agree. Folks brag about canceling gym memberships… hybrid allows you to train how you want and to switch it up. Even if you have all the equipment at home. Busy day - use at home. Have more time, feel like seeing ppl around you, use the sauna - go to the gym.
+1 for hybrid. I have a nice setup at home and I go once a week to a commercial gym for a trainer. Having a trainer is amazing for programming, new movements and new focus areas and for rehab work.

At home, I would do a set and rest for 30minutes 😂 Will go back to home gym once I can afford a house, so I have space for machines. But in nyc, it's almost a impossible dream. A “gimmicky” tool that I LOVE is a magnetic pan bolt remover, just helps me stay slightly cleaner. A telescopic magnet is also a good tool to have when you need it.
Thank you, I’m just starting to get my home gym together and this was super helpful. I have serious chronic pain issues so some of the equipment isn’t an option for me, but your video helped me decide what I wanted! Your sense of humour was a bonus, thanks again! 🙏
Great video. You can actually have a home gym without a barbell and full rack in separate building or garage. I have almost all the things from this video in budget versions, but no cables. I use wall anchors and resistance bands to imitate cables. Lately I really enjoy kettlebell, I only have one 16Kg, it is more playfull than dumbbells or bands. But if you have little space and more money, you can get adjustable kettlebell that looks the same as competition kettlebell. I'm 42 and want something simple, and kettlebell is simple. I dont count reps, I do one kettlebell exercise for 10 minutes in intervals 30 sec exercise 30 sec rest, or different intervals for some exercises. Than do another excise for 10 minutes. I try get at least 30 minutes per day, or some 3.5 hours per week.
Great advice Gluck! Just wanted to add a comment regarding Serious Steel bands. Absolutely love them! The standard length is 41 inches, which are great if you’re 6 feet tall. For those who are under 5’ 10”, I’d recommend they try Serious Steel’s 32 inch bands as an option. Better tension and just as durable.
Its amazing how little you can get away with. Ive been a gym member for 40 years and recently decided to go the home gym route. I bought a set of Trulap 90 lb dumbells and nice rep fitness bench. I have stairs so I use them for calfs and some other exercises. I can get a full workout with just this equipment but ill probably buy a pull down device. So far I have about $1200 in this little amount of equipment and where I live a yearly gym membership is only about $250 so home gyms are not financially the best decision but you save on gas and driving time and you get a lot of convenience at home.
I will say out of all of these, the Power blocks dumbbells have been the best thing ever. I was fortunate to find a gym store not named Dick's or Academy, and they had the 90lb quiet set for like $550. Bought those and immediately sold the archaic dumbbell bars. Hell, I had the Olympic size version and that sucker was a pain in the ass...well mostly on my shoulders. But I wish I knew about the rings because my dumbass bought the TRX a few years ago. Lesson learned! Lol
I live in a small NYC apartment and keep a 5 foot bar and a few bumper plates in my closet. Takes up very little space and hides away easily so my kids don't mess with it.

Lots of the stuff you review is a no go for me, can’t even jump rope due to low ceiling, but I do love your videos. Think Gymnastic Rings are going on my shopping list. Thanks and best wishes!

Compact/foldable power rack - the kind the is screwed to the wall only takes 20" of space and gives a butload of options for any barbel exercise, as well as a place to hand you plates, dips, pull-ups, and rows. Put a pull-up bar on the opposite wall, and you have a basis for a crossover, using pulleys.
Great video thanks Gluck! Love the minimalist content for those with smaller spaces. Think Rogue’s Jammer pull up bar is a ultimate pick for a pull up bar in a small space; robust enough to attach rings/ bands too as well! Similarly, the Voltra looks good for minimalist ultimate cable work particularly if against a single upright. Love this type of content!

Honestly spinlocks these days aren’t that annoying. There are spotter hooks for db flyes and press, and you can always cut into tennis balls and attach them onto the ends for everything else. I’m super pleased the home gym scene has exploded since my dad started in the early 90s! It’s a different world now.
I have a pair, and I honestly have no clue what people are complaining about. It feels like those commercials where people fail at basic tasks so they try to sell you a more complicated solution. I've never slammed a spinlock into my legs because I'm not an idiot and have basic coordination.
After much research I went with indestructible yet cheap spinlocks. Easy to fill the entire bar with light weights or a spacer so there is a flat end. Or I just use a shorter bar. I did get a couple metal splinters that drew blood, but I am a man not a dainty princess so not a big deal. 💪😁👍

I have multiple pairs of spinlock handles. Since I progress reps over multiple weeks before changing weights, speed of change is not an issue. Also, when I do progress it's just adding a single 1.25 lb plate to each of two dumbbells. I don't find the ends to get in my way.
I use a pull up/dip rack from Gravity Fitness and then attach rings to it. Then I have a foldable bench (first on my list to upgrade) and a pair of adjustable Dumbbells. I can do everything with this except maybe a good leg workout. (Split squats do work just fine)
Man I just want the space to get an adjustable bench, pair of adjustable dumbells and a rack with options for cables. The irony when money is not the problem, but space is...

Another great video, thanks! Would you post a video showing how you use your rings in conjunction with free weights? Seems like many programs I’ve seen focus on one or the other Tnx!
You mention to get gymnastic rings and they are better than pull up bar, i have gymnastic rings and they are indeed great, but since its becoming winter and very cold in Denmark, so working out outside with the rings can be difficult. I have considered getting a pull up bar, like the one you mention in your video. Can i hang the gymnastic rings on the pull up bar? This would be my only logical solution to use my gymnastic rings inside my apartment. Would it be safe to use rings on the bar, if i know using the pull up by itself would be safe? Good videos btw, greetings from Denmark

The only thing i noticed from training with minimal equipment was my hamstrings got weak. You can just use a Glute Ham Roller for doing leg curls.
Can we get a day-in-the-life video? From morning to unboxing, filming, editing etc. and more BTS stuff would be interesting to see!
I wanna see the bulletproof VTS review!!!! Been dying to see it reviewed!
We're awaiting the VTS lite so we can compare them in our review. It's coming though.
Another great video, thanks! Would you post a video showing how you use your rings in conjunction with free weights? Seems like many programs I’ve seen focus on one or the other Tnx!
X3 Bar, adjustable kettlebell, pull up bar, gymnastic rings, and C2.
like the minimalist gym!
Several sets of spinlocks off Amazon and Kensui for db inclines was my cheap setup so rarely change dbs.
Can you do a buffalo bar comparison video?
You mention to get gymnastic rings and they are better than pull up bar, i have gymnastic rings and they are indeed great, but since its becoming winter and very cold in Denmark, so working out outside with the rings can be difficult. I have considered getting a pull up bar, like the one you mention in your video. Can i hang the gymnastic rings on the pull up bar? This would be my only logical solution to use my gymnastic rings inside my apartment. Would it be safe to use rings on the bar, if i know using the pull up by itself would be safe?
Good videos btw, greetings from Denmark
Creepy Basement Brandon 🤣
Not creepy. Keep it to yourself
Are you planning a full review of the Kensui weight vest?
Hey Gluck, any chance you'll be able to review the MAXUM Fitness SX2 anytime soon? Could be the centerpiece of a minimalist setup since it packs so much versatility into a single rack!
Rings, bands and stall bars.
Cannot agree with you more on the Ironmaster Super Pro Bench!
Those Kensui plates look so nice.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'm wondering how stable are the bells of steel cable towers without being bolted down?
Not very. The sectorized is pretty stable but the plate loaded isn't remotely. You definitely have to anchor attach the plate loaded to something.
Man those kensui plates in the background look sweet! So shiny! 🤩
What do you use to disinfect your equipment after use? I am currently using a soap/vinegar/water mix but I am not sure if it doing a good job.
Yep!
Great video. I'm in the market for a weighted vest and bingo I'm sold!
Which of the ironmaster bench accessories do you think are the most versatile?
Have you researched the SYL fitness cable trolley system?
Can you give me your opinion of best comparison of the new Spirit commercial vs Rep AB 3002 adjustable benches ? Thanks my man.
The Reppins’ have already gone up $100 since you edited this video. They haven’t even started delivering them yet!
How much did they cost?
@@TheRockyBalboa100 the base level went from $900 to $1000 before tax.
@@slothy120 thanks. It's 1000 euros in Europe (Netherlands) right now for the 85lb
As entertaining and informative as always. Good work!
@@timfritton469 thanks!
I bought the metal rings from Rogue and hate them. I wish I got the wood rings.
Perhaps I tuned out, but I did not hear any recommendations for plates.
