Thank you Dr Baker for this very insightful presentation. To me it was quite reassuring and shows that despite being one of God's greatest servants, Ellen White was just as human as everyone else and subject to life , its trials, tribulations and challenges to an even greater degree than many of us would ever imagine. I too am having struggles in my marriage but I can say with confidence that when I put God first and seek His providence, the burdens of life become much easier to endure. God bless.

Thank you for another glimpse into the history of the pioneers. Ellen and James White were humans who endured pressure and resistance on every hand from not only Satan but also, the members of the church. Yes, they had struggles like we all do but because they loved God first and foremost, their love for each other endured. That is the take-away from this for me.

I always tell people that husband's and wives should each have their separate rooms and spend time alone. It would make them miss, think of, and love each other; saving their marriages.
I have my own room, which keeps me at miss. As humans, each of us needs our own space. This doesn't mean we don't disagree, but when we do, we can each go in our own space to think, speak and pray to God.
David was a man after Gods own heart yet while under temptation fell under the curse of sin. This and other failures of Bible patriarchs and prophets God never chose to hide from us in his word. These ensamples were given to us for our admonition. All these distractions are being used to derail us from our heavenly reward. Let’s turn our eyes onto Jesus and Jesus only for all else have sinned and fell short of the glory. Let’s do as the prophets say to do and not as they have sometimes done, for in doing so we do Gods will not the prophets will.

But Edson White became a powerful tool for The Lord in helping with the ministries in the South east. The General Conference had prejudice against our black brothers and sisters and Sister White warned The School of Madison not to join the Conference and to remain a independent ministry. She also said that the school of Madison should not seek acreditacion with the government or the world. After She died the schools leaders disregarded her warnings and God removed His blessing and the school went down the drain

Sister in Christ, Ellen White had to have a separate bedroom because she had a visitor whom she called " My accompanying Angel" visit her during the wee hours of the morning, and "Father" (that's how she called James) was fully aware of that. And do you know who that "Accompanying Angel was? I'll give you a hint: It was not God.

Let's clear the Sabbath issue up once and for all. The apostles kept the Sabbath after Jesus rose!
Luke, "a Greek physician", (not a Jew), wrote the Gospel of Luke around A.D. 60 and called the Sabbath by it's God given name and never said the 1st day of the week was anything other than a regular work day. He could have said, "the Sabbath was nailed to the cross", but he didn't.
Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
PROOF, They kept the Sabbath even after Jesus died!
Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Notice the, "spices which they had prepared"? They prepared the spices but the Sabbath drew near and they didn't have time to embalm Jesus. So they waited until after the Sabbath. They kept the Sabbath according to the commandment, then went to embalm Jesus after the Sabbath.
Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
The Sabbath is not an ordinance or festival, but an actual law from God. Moses law (placed in a book on the side of the Ark) was a law of ordinances. That's why Jesus said He came not to do away with the law, but to fulfill it (fulfill those 600 plus laws and extra ordinances and festivals the Pharisees tagged onto it, but not the Law of God).
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Mark 7:7-9 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
What I see in these threads is a line between the sheep and the goats.
While the sheep hear the Masters voice and follow Him
The goats are stubborn and refuse to surrender their will to the will of God, even fighting against His holy law, just like Satan did
Some say Jesus gave us "new commandments".
Can we find the supposedly "new" commandments in the old testament. I believe so. Because it's not new. It has been there from the beginning.

@Mike Flanagan I guess the word Christian means "Christ Like" i.e. Live like Christ lived. Christ kept the Sabbath and so do all the Apostles including Paul after his conversion, the very one (Paul) that you use for your authority to break the holy commandment of God.
Christ did not constitute Sunday worship but did constitute the Holy Communion service and after His death at calvary nothing could be added or removed from the new covenant.
Sunday Worship was not baptized into the Christian service not until after the death of Jesus and the All the Apostles of Christ.
Choose to follow Christ example by doing as he did or follow man.
Sunday Worship is an offence to God ( Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men).

@Mike Flanagan Col 2:14-17 talks about the ceremonial sabbaths which were pointing to Jesus who himself was the real sacrifice for us. But the 7th day Sabbath is not a shadow coz it was constituted when there was no such thing as sin but the shadows came because of sin. The Issue is not whether you are Catholic or Adventist but it's all about conversion, when you are truly converted You leave your Bad habits and do God's will. Obedience does not save you but it's a lifestyle of someone who's being saved.
A Christian always does what God says.

Lot's of info but should have been presented with a different spirit. This is called marriage. Relationships, whether with friends, family or foes have sunny and rainy days. We all have battles that we have to overcome. Why would the White's be any different? Moses was a murderer, David a murderer, adultery disobedient, yet the apple of God's eye. We have all fallen short of the glory of God. That goes for prophets and prophetess. We ought to keep in high regards what was given to us by those who were chosen to carry a cross we could never lift. This is called SACRIFICE.

As I listened to this discourse a second time it struck me that I’d be appalled and embarrassed at having the most intimate details of my marriage and my family life/struggles laid out and further to be discussed, analyzed and opinionated on generations later by people who were so removed from the times in which I lived and didn’t know me, personally.

@@forward_ever_ever2595 Thank the Lord that it did come to light! If it was not meant to be, then the Lord had the ability to keep it hidden. He chose to allow it. It keeps Ellen White off of a pedestal. Further, it helps to soften her words somewhat. By reading her writings, you'd think she never had challenges. These letters demonstrate otherwise.
However, she appears to have felt that James White was under the control of the Devil at one point. Not sure what to make of that. He seems to mention over and over that she tried to control him, to assume leadership over him, and she never even once responded to those accusations. Makes me wonder that there may be some truth to it. On the other hand, she says he controls her, and mentions that particular issue a multitude of times.

I believe it is okay to have these letters in our time to help to encourage each one of us in our struggles. Knowing that satan tempts each and every one of us. We need to pray and trust God to see us through. We don't have to run and get a divorce but we need to pray for each..and keep the faith and submit to Christ. I am a widow but if the Lord should bless me with a husband l would know that God must be the center of my relationship and do not invite a third party.

I listen to your video and see no proof ... the letters showed only that he was traveling and she stayed home to write. She even said she was looking forward to his visit to her bedroom. But whatever floats your boat.
James didn’t like a lot of the politics going on nor did he like the re-editing of “prophesies” that egw proclaimed were going to happen. When prophecies didn’t happen the egw crew would change the dates or rewrite pamphlets/books to another timeline. And by the way, James separated from her,not the other way round. James lived on the farm in upstate NewYork for years until his death.
The thing that I really appreciate about the Bible is that it shows Gods people with the good and the bad. No whitewashing. The way they are, as human beings.

This proves the Whites were humans, not deities lest we worship them. I like the way God outsmarts the Devil in their great controversy, by allowing Satan to torment His servants so that God finally proves that Satan was wasting his time. God is a God of transparence - He does not hide our weaknesses but allows them to manifest so that He can appraise them and also edify the entire Church. This presentation on the White's struggles should encourage us all that God will see us through all our troubles if we draw closer to Him especially during trying times such as was for the Whites. Dear sister it is not gossiping. I love it and I'm glad to see that Ellen White was a human being and she had the same concerns as us regarding her children and her wedding. According to some Adventists, one would believe she was a kind of superwoman. When I see her doubts, her differing opinions with her husbands regarding Edson it gives me strength.

I suppose the reality is that divorce ends your ability to remarry. Separation is the same thing. The marriage is so strained we cannot live together. Isn't that an "estranged marriage"? I see no difference, other than by remarriage, it makes the union appear without force. Marriage is supposed to be representative of the union of Christ and the Church. So, if we separate, it besmirches the principle nearly as much. It means irreconcilable differences. It is still unchristian.

Luke, "a Greek physician", (not a Jew), wrote the Gospel of Luke around A.D. 60 and called the Sabbath by it's God given name and never said the 1st day of the week was anything other that a regular work day. He could have said, "the Sabbath was nailed to the cross", but he didn't.
Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
PROOF, They kept the Sabbath even after Jesus died!
Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Notice the, "spices which they had prepared"? They prepared the spices but the Sabbath drew near and they didn't have time to embalm Jesus. So they waited until after the Sabbath. They kept the Sabbath according to the commandment, then went to embalm Jesus after the Sabbath.
Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
The Sabbath is not an ordinance or festival, but an actual law from God. That's why Jesus said He came not to do away with the law, but to fulfill it (fulfill those 600 plus laws and extra ordinances and festivals the Pharisees tagged on, but not the Law of God).

Some times to carry out God's mission separation in body is condoned by God. However, communion with each other Is key.
I'm very impressed . They both worked best separately. I believe for God's sake , instead of strife, agreement on both sides for separation so that each can fulfill his mission successfully is understood and not condemned by God.
It is not God's will that a husband and wife live apart. God was NOT involved in this. This is just a power struggle.

I won't overstep and make any judgements on these people because only God the Father can do that. I do, however, better understand the struggles of families/ couples in ministry. Satan attacks them so much.

Ellen White or no one else has the ability to draw someone to God. Jesus Christ said unequivocally “No one comes to the Father unless I call him””NO ONE”. And that also includes Ellen White. As a matter of fact, she draws people to her, because so far most believers are jumping to her defense. You cannot defend the truth, because the truth stands on its own. It’s analogous to water which seeks its own level. The truth will always prevail. As God’s representative here on earth, Ellen White bombed when she said she was “not a prophet” but ended prophesying anyway. Most of her prophecies, by the way, had nothing to do with the word of God. It was aimed towards the shortcomings of the members of her congregation.
