Negative Nellies need not retire. 😂 Hey Buzz, this is my first Sunday before my first Monday of complete Freedom. No more Miserable Mondays with those Negative Nellies. Thanks for doing these videos. If I wasn’t so many states away, I’d come knocking to see if you want to walk. I love your jovial attitude. Very hard to find people like that. I figure the best I can offer someone is a smile and a kind word. A lot don’t want that. Not where I shop anyways. People take themselves too seriously. On another note…I like to imagine someone who was invisible on that rope swing behind you was enjoying listening to you talk also. God Bless you Buzz! Keep smiling! 😊

We only had a partial eclipse; where I live. But I did see totality in Columbia, S.C. in 2017. It was one of the most transcendent moments of my life. What I appreciate most about being semi retired, is being able to be deliberate in my actions. Whatever I do, from laundry to any task, can be done correctly and with care; rather than rushed through. If I see something that needs doing, I have the option of doing it right away, rather than filing it in the back of my mind, for later perusal.

That's a great point and I mentioned something like that in a previous video. Finally, I can take a project and do it the right way, taking my time, and already thinking about how I can improve on that project. It's great to be not working! Buzz

Completely agree. The transition period can be a little rough but once you get through it retirement is great. It's hard to explain but the lower stress, no time crunch, being available and everything else just makes you feel good all the time. Adds to your positivity, comfort, contentment and happiness in life I believe. Great video. Steve

I agree with all that you said. My last few years at work, were the worst. Company was going through transitioning. I don’t necessary mind changes but, enough was enough. We couldn’t take of customers needs. When you are getting embarrassed everyday and can’t fix issues, it’s time. Now,
I wake up everyday feeling this is the best day of my life. I retired during Covid.

OMG - that’s EXACTLY where my department is right now!
New manager - a nice guy who’s so far in over his head I can’t believe he got the job. A new Millennial work crew - apparently in “Millennial-ville” experience and knowledge are irrelevant needs compared to being able to tap away on a keyboard. I’ve been asked to train these kids and get them prepared for when I leave, but I’ve never seen a group more disinterested in learning anything than the kids we have on the payroll right now…….😑
After 27 years with the company, I AM SO READY TO GET THE HECK OUT OF HERE……!!!!!!

That's pretty much what I went through my last working years. Company had been through an acquisition and then I was stuck with new company policies that were vastly different from the small boutique company (software for law firms) we once were. Retired 5 years this month!

    • @JDG1958
      @JDG1958 5 місяців тому +3

That’s where I was. If they couldn’t fix it by a keyboard stroke, then we shouldn’t have or need that customer.
I could go on for hours. The best advice I can give is to prepare for retirement. The feeling is being 12 years old and school just let out for the summer. All that’s left to do is to enjoy everyday doing what you choose to do or not to do.😊

I think that negative people should retire sooner than not to lighten up the mood of those having to work longer know what I mean? Positivity makes everything better!! Next year in the dreary months you can work on inside projects and feel a sense of accomplishment! Save all those indoor projects for the winter, so you have something to keep you occupied and can be out enjoying the nice weather when you have it. Once you nail down all the savings you can get out of your expenditures, you might have enough money to go a little south for a couple of weeks in the winter to rejuvinate! Getting your garden working again will help you save a lot o money on your Grocery bill! Staying busy also extends your life! I do house cleaning and I have customers of varying ages. I have one customer that is 92, has a garden, golfs every week, mows his own lawn, rakes his own lawn in the fall and spring. Then I have customers in their late 60's or in their early 70's that can't walk 1/4 mile because they retired and didn't keep busy. So find stuff to keep busy with, don't sit around and do nothing!!

That is a great observation about negativity. I struggle with this myself. I feel that I am not good at anything so I struggle with finding purpose and integrating socially with people.I get bored sometimes and I don’t have a lot of friends. But strangely at work I seem to be coming up with a lot of ideas lately so yesterday I just decided to work on one of them. My boss asked me to look into something he did that didn’t make sense and I wasn’t able to replicate his results and mine does what makes sense so I guess I am still useful LOL. The truth is I have zero ego about my work which is a good thing. I have no stress about it. Unfortunately I am sort of gliding into retirement because the funding on my work is phasing out. So I am soon going to be doing hybrid retirement, part time work. I am going to try to avoid taking social security until 70. I want to max it out. I don’t care about longevity cross over points and all that. I am only going to collect it when I need the money or 70 which ever comes first. I really enjoy your channel. You seem so real and relatable and I like that unlike so many others that are natural celebrities and perfect having never done anything wrong in their life people.

That is so true. My transition was different in that I went from working full time to caregiving. After that phase I was able to get involved with church & cat rescue. The availability is so great. Another thing, I can go shopping during the weekdays while everyone is at work & I don’t run into crowds. I answered the call to return to work part time to help out. I thought I’d try it & I can’t believe how less stressful it is this time. I know I can quit at any time. The funny thing is those who need me also know that & I get more respect than before. I still have 4 day weekends & if I need time off during the 3 days I’m off no problem. Yes, retirement is great!

My current retired project. Fixing the neighbor's back fence. Why? Because he can't or won't and doesn't care so it's up to me if I don't want to live by a wildlife preserve. One of those things, he doesn't care if I take care of the problem, gives me some exercise and it needs doing. .It 's been a two year project, maybe 3 now, last summer I cut the thick vines and saplings off at ground level so they are now dead and brittle and I can clear them away and get to fixing the fence.

Transition for us was turning time into our friend and not our enemy. We own our time. Learning to truly relax took some time, but now retirement is pure gravy, lol. Wanting to do more projects around the house which is good but again cost money to do! So not only are you making less money on retirement you are or at least wanting to spend more money. Health and being in shape. I used to be on my feet 11 to 13 hours a day when i worked. Now i have gain 35 lbs in 18 months since retirement. Legs are weaker now. Again we just been thru a long winter of doing very little. Summer time i will be out in the yard working or riding my e-bike so i will get more excersise. I am like you. Kinda just stay in my own little bubble. None of my friends have retired yet. So I do miss the socializing when i was working. But don't miss all the gossup. At least you have a youtube channel which i sure helps with boredom and makes you a few extra dollars. Buzz, a little further thought on the idea of the "transition to retirement". For me, it is, and was, important to have my "hobby support system" in place prior to retirement. I spent the last ten working years of my life setting up my shop. I was a tool and die maker by trade, so I have metal working tools: lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc. I'm a hobby wood worker, so I acquired table saw, band saw, lathe, router table, etc. I'm also one of those oddball OCD guys that can't stand my truck being dirty, so a cold wet winter evening is the perfect time to go to the garage to wash and wax the truck. Point is, no matter the time of year, or the weather, for me, I like to have the option to pursue something interesting. It made the transition to retirement seamless. Just some more food for thought.

Pounding over ruts and potholes in my 4wd or camping would be rather unpleasant with injuries.

WTH, I'm even extra careful on a ladder these days ! The reason I don't sell the motorcycle is because even though I seldom ride anymore, it's still fun, relaxing and enjoyable. That's why I'm trying to retire on SS only. I don't want to touch investments! Lol Buzz

@@BuzzRetirementGarage I hear you loud and clear on that. But I'm going to wait until I'm 67 or so on taking that. Our plan totally ignores any SS income so when I take it that gives me a nice extra margin of error on the plan :)

Many will be playing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon tomorrow!!! I will be!!
Well you do have grow lights in the basement already and have the nickname of Buzz soooo! Just kidding LOL
One thing I noticed for months after retirement was having a genuine and big smile on my face.
Free of the shackles from the 9-5 grind and more time to devote, savor and enjoy life itself. Taking time to smell the roses and prune them come due season.
I appreciated the job I had but appreciate being retired from it even more!
In automotive terms it's like driving a 5 speed and when getting to a certain speed slip it into 5th. Easier on the engine, RPMs drop and you get better gas mileage.
Afterwards you go at a speed life whatever that looks like for you.
Downshift/upshift/change lanes/take that detour when you need or want. Much of it is going at the best suited pace for you and what you decide to do.
We spent years working hard for a living, now is the time for living the life we worked hard for. Use your time, energy and money wisely.
Look after your health and never take for granted the opportunities to put and or observe the joy in enjoyment .

Well, they look like tomato plants? Hmmmm. You have good points. It's definitely nice to be free and running at the pace that I enjoy. Thank you for your comment! Buzz

An old rope swing that I don't want to take down. Nostalgia I guess.

What was your blood pressure while you were working and now? Pulse rate.

Probably about the same. I gained 5 lbs in the last month so it offsets my lower stress level. I firmly believe my weight controls my blood pressure. Buzz
