    The rain water/rain barrel tax was interesting. Some states do just the opposite and tax people to collect rain water and require a permit application to install rain barrels where some local governments have made claim to the water that falls from the sky. Your tax is probably a means to promote water conservation and to help with the storm water runoff. I'm in Florida and I have six decorative barrels to hook up and I have recently been researching what areas do. In my area I think they should do something your area does to promote the use of the rain barrels.

    I like the breakfast sandwiches for convenience and provides something quick to eat. I'll have to try the air fryer soon. Sams doesn't have the bacon one, but in June I bought Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Croissant Sandwiches, Frozen, 12ct. for $13.98 at a Florida Sams - good price for the 12 count - still the same price today. Same product, but at Publix and eight count regular price is $12.49 and Publix is a high priced store. I thought the store brand Kirkland price was a little high, but I know taste preference goes a long way and is sometimes more important than price.

    I was forced yo retire at 67. Not happy about it. not at all. I loved my job and there was a lot I wanted to accomplish. I am a single mom,of two adult children. Divorced at 28. Did some dating buy quickly learned the men I met were interested in sex and not a relationship. Having lost all trust, I built up strong walls to protect myself and my kids. Do I regret that? No. would it have been nice to have a partner I could trust.... Maybe. at this point, I'd say, no. not interested. My independence and stability were hard won. What did I miss out on? A lot! A dance partner. A lover.A shoulder to cry on when I was scared. Now? It really does not matter. I do without. I love my cats, my kids, i enjoy good music and walking my dog. I have structure. Mobility. A good roof. Laughter. acquaintances. I sing in the choir. I have a big garden. I can use power tools... though it is scary. snd I can plant and prune and paint with the best of them. My piano speaks to me. When I miss people a friendly face, I call my sister or brother. we might meet for coffee. they have spouses and busy lives. Or I work in the garden, and people passing by say hello. And when I am lonely, or afraid, or worried..... I light a candle, and dr8nk a coffee , and watch out the window.

    Closing in on 70. Retired for good at 59. Have a few friends, have acquaintances. It's more important to know how to get along with people than to have a bunch of fake friends. Wife works full-time. Spend a lot of time by myself, always have. Do some babysitting of small granddaughter.

    Lots of family and friends have gone to heaven in the Big Rock Candy Mountain! Sad but true. Also I always dated older. I am NOT a cougar but will HAVE TO look at younger now! Also hobbies like dance, stage magic are good ideas. If you golf-- that works. Also, some of the college group are not too well and do not like to travel once a year anymore. If you live next to a museum district or amusement park area some old pals come to be tourists and not really to see you! I learned that the hard way. It is great to have FB for people you really knew long ago and reconnect. And of course the phone. but Buzz is correct! This is a retirement issue and nope you are not imagining it, it is real. Also in a world of neighbors with several cars few ask if you need a store trip or special trip anywhere. Before 2019 and all that tragedy the senior centers often had group bus trips that were classy to a special theatre or museum show, I have not seen those resurface for a one day trip again here in the more provincial area where I moved. At one time they had at least two such trips a year and I was caregiving so I was not able to attend, now that I can they are not offering them! Also, many of the churches are not what they used to be. I am happy to find a film festival that I shall attend next spring! Cheers.

    There is a need for summer camps for adults without designs for hooking up. Just a place with activities to bring out the kid in us again. The older crowd has forgotten how to play, be light-hearted, and enjoy simple pleasures. Bring out the good dancing music around the campfire. Does anyone remember the game Time Bomb? It was wicked. Something like that is a fun place to start the laughs vs talking about wet weather and arthritis issues, your ex, politics, your kids & grandkids, etc.. Summer camp may not be a great game changer for making life-long friends who'd donate a kidney, but come on, the older crowd is boring, and many need something to dislodge that stick up their *ss so that maybe, back home, they can socialize better. There seem to be a lot of lonely people out there, so why aren't we finding one another? I like my solitude, also, but we don't have to cocoon ourselves the remaining 24/7 of our days to the grave.

    Retired from a stressful middle school teaching position four years ago. Made a complete break from there. I totally love being alone: no emails, no worthless meetings, no angry parents, no paperwork, no disrespectful students. I am enjoying taking piano/art lessons, reading, walking. I have no desire to make acquaintances or friends. Life is good.

    Just finished my 4th year of retirement. After all of the years of care taking our last obligation of love peaches the cat, had to be put down after 17 years. It’s been about a month and things are quite around here! We can finally make vacation plans without consulting family to care for her needs. Retirement is now setting in! I wish I could have done it in my 50’s but am really grateful just to be at this point. I don’t know how I did all of everyday things. It’s amazing how easy it is to make things work!

    There was a process to follow at the company I retired from. Usually asked for 3 months, I gave them 2. I was an IT administrative assistant with a large power company. They weren't replacing exiting admins. They started to give me the extra workload. Through the admin grapevine I knew of several others that were about to exit, that was my cue, lol! Retired since Jan this year. Just learned they finally got a contract admin about a month ago. She lasted 3 weeks, lol! Sorta tells it all! :)

    It’s called “stream of consciousness.” I’m cool with that. .inflation is really obvious in food. I eat chicken and pork and an occasional hamburger . My store doesn’t have fresh fish and I will only buy it fresh. I actually like the skin on chicken. It gives it flavor. Rarely eat steak, and I don’t eat processed foods except to keep ramen noodles in case I’m running out of money at the end of the month. I do eat fresh fruit and veggies and salad, and I drink water or seltzer. You’re next to Lake Erie? I’m on the shores of Lake Ontario in New York. I love the Great Lakes.

    I think this is true of many, not many or no friends in retirement. I have one lifetime friend that I cherish but she doesn’t live near me. We get together 2 or 3 times a year. I had another lifetime one but she died 10 years ago. I have two guy friends that I have had a while, one 25 years but they both amount to phone friends as one I have never actually met in person and the other one lives 75 miles away and we get together a couple times of years. I have a few neighbors that I chat with in the yard. I wish I had a friend nearby to do things with that I feel needs campanionship, I don’t need anybody to shop with or even do movies with or eat out with except fancy places but rather need one for concerts, plays, etc. I am a little hesitant to try because with my few efforts I was strongly rebuffed like I was an alien or serial killer. I don’t do well with rejection, never have. My grown son lives with me for now so he’s kind of my friend. I will talk to people in stores, etc. so that meets some of my people needs. You might feel a bit differently if you weren’t married, your wife is your friend. Yes agree, retirement is or can be a bit isolating. I work part time but more for the money. It’s very rewarding though because it’s with kids. I definitely think it’s not too easy to make friends as you are older, partly just being more isolated to find some, people aren’t as open as when younger and most have established friendships and maybe not as open to letting new people in and now we can have a total chasm due to political differences. Oddly my mother and grandmother had no real friends ever that I know of, so some of my situation of not having many may be a bit due to them in some way. I was shy when I was younger (but neither of them seem to be/have been.) Their friends seem to be/have been their sisters, but I don’t get along with mine (1) or the rest of my family all that well so family are not much friends. I bet a lot of people who don’t have many/any friends have family that act more as friends?! Sorry for the book, this just really got me thinking.

    I’m a woman, 45 years old, SAHM, and home school. When I left my career 6 years ago, I was reminded that coworkers are NOT “friends”, and certainly not a “family” (and as a nurse, many managers would try and tell us we were a “family” 🙄). Being a former 90’s grungy teen... I’m still of that 90’s mindset: keep screens and electronics minimal. Just about all of my old friends are no better than the younger generation in their phone addictions. I just can’t connect with people who seem like they’re half cyborg because of their never-put-away-smartphones. So it’s not just you retired folks, many more of us are feeling it too. God bless you and enjoy your well-earned retirement!

    Missed it again, shucks. As far as that grape leaves, pick the leaves small, usually spring or summer, so the veins aren't too big. And no it won't hurt your daughters plants. You may be able to pick them now, smaller and freeze them until later. By the way my advantage plan doesn't cover crowns. So be cautious. I haven't seen an aluminum tree with a color wheel since I was in elementary school. My neighbors/godparents had it. It was amazing as a kid, and there daughter loved our live trees annually.

    I find it’s a little cheaper to support your local farmer, we buy a 1/2 beef locally great relationship with a great farmer and local mom pop butcher, meat is so expensive this is one of the ways to save. We typically always had Costco beef because it’s always great meat. Local farmer fattens up the delicious chubby steers , we are slowly navigating from low carb to carnivore, could not be happier.

    I appreciate your transparency. Showing what you spend is more reality than I have seen on many channels. I make a budget BEFORE I spend for the month. That way I can stick to my 300 dollar grocery budget. I do have a 50 dollar restaurant/junk food allocation, but don't usually spend it at restaurants. They have gotten to be more expensive, and the food isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Plus the service has gone WAY downhill since everyone has their nose in a phone 24/7.

  • @anniesshenanigans3815
    @anniesshenanigans3815 7 годин тому

    You said you make two trips to Sams and two trips to Costco per month, there is your budget buster. So that is part of the problem with overspending at these places... They fool you (and everyone) with 'bulk' but it's not cheaper in a lot of cases. I try to stay away from Sams as much as possible. I go about once every month and a half. And I do not vary from my list. I have cut out so many "junk" foods and I am able to stay in my budget of 300 per month (I am single, no pets). What I bought 2 years ago is a much longer list than today. And I have noticed the prices at Sams has went up as well. In the past, I went to Whole Foods and Publix. Today I go to Walmart, Trader Joes, and Aldi.

    After I was 'the last one to know' and she ditched me (Quote on the last morning: "You're A Good Man, but I don't love you anymore) for my son's martial arts teacher, I have detached myself from emotional commitment. I subscribe entirely to Reacher: "Hope for the best, plan for the worst." Oscar Wilde became my mantra: "A second marriage may be regarded as the triumph of Hope over Experience." Now, it's finding ways to stay healthy, music, reading, advancing technology, sports interests. The relief over the years at not having to cope with emotional outbursts, expiring compassion fatigue and trying to decipher the back-story to a woman's exchanges has freed me from those draining emotions. My best friend of 50+ years died 4 years ago. I miss the shared humour, the shared wavelength of which was hugely enjoyable. But the comments are true: no deep friendships formed after such an experience. Just neighbourly acquaintances.

    Without a person to be a friend isn't so bad. Retiring pretty young four years ago I was worried about keeping busy. Now, I don't have enough hours in the day and the majority of my endeavors are self-driven. From rebuilding veranda on my house, to restoring a prized car, to installing standby generator system on my home or helping family and neighbors. Projects that I can take my time with, have the resources to complete in a professional manner and with the help of google and youtube, I feel unstoppable. During this time, my satisfaction with a job well done and confidence in my abilities have skyrocketed. My wife calls me "home bombrille," which in Portuguese means a man good for a thousand things. As far as a friend, God is more than enough and closer than a brother.
