How To Turn Side Markers into Turn Signals on a Porsche 911, Boxster, Cayman (Foxwell NT530 Review)

- Learn how to reprogram the side markers to become turn signals on your Porsche 911, Boxster, or Cayman (997, 987) with the Foxwell NT530 scanner. Pick up a Foxwell NT530 today: ecarguides.com...
Step-by-step instructions:
1. Connect the Foxwell NT530 to your car
2. Turn the ignition to the 'ON' position
3. On the NT530, select Porsche/Smart VIN/OK/Programming/Front Control Module/Coding Adaptions/Customer Specific-Settings/Side Marker or Repeater
4. Edit the Side Marker Repeater setting and enable 'Flasher Repeater'
5. After confirming the change, select 'Side Marker Repeater' again
6. Next, the default value should be 'Side Marker'
7. Hit 'OK' and confirm the setting change
8. Turn off the car and turn the igniton back to 'ON'
9. Confirm that side markers function both as side markers and turn signals
Note: If you previously programmed your side markers as flashers, re-enable them as side markers before beginning the procedure.

for real! Your video did something the san diego porsche dealership could not figure out. -how to turn off my daytime driving lights after this car spent 2 years in canada. I used this 130 dollar scanner to turn them off using your video instructions. on adapting lights You are actually smarter than a dealership tech... soooo worrisome, for so many reasons. 🙄

Hello Car Fanatic, nice post. Thanks for sharing. Had to put my feedback here: it worked on my Cayman S 2009 987.2. I followed exactly your step by step. I wonder that, after coding with Foxwell and before testing, it is important turn the ignition off, remove the key, insert the key and turn the ignition back on, so the front module can correctly save the coding. Regards.

One thing I found was if you have turned on Daytime Driving Lights, these will stay on even when you’ve turn on parking lights, so the dimmer LED strip comes on at the same time. The Daylight Driving Lights only turn off when you turned on the highlights. I haven’t been able to fix this as yet but it’s an acceptable compromise for the side markers/turn signals setup.
Do you know how to turn on/program the daytime running lights and can the DRL's be the fog lights? I tried to turn the DRL's on using the Foxwell NT530 on an 06' Carrera base and it does not seem to be accepting the code. I'm replacing the fog lights with new LED's so I would like the DRL and side markers on like you described. Thanks!
I’m not sure on a .1 as I’ve only programmed the side markers on my .2.
I have a 997.1 and tried this using my NT530. It didn't work for me.

'06 997.01 It doesn't work on my car either. I can do one or the other but not both. I do prefer the lights being turn signals - just seems safer on the Interstate. I also turned on the daytime driving lights (low beam headlights) which I love. Very happy to have those! If anybody figures out how to do both signals and side markers I sure would appreciate a reply to this post. I'll buy you a beer!😁😁👍👍

This is cool. I was recently looking into the Foxwell and other handheld programmers/readers for my newly acquired Carrera S (Yes!! I finally got one!!). I was researching on Rennlist but it gets pretty confusing as to which one is the newest and what works on a .1 vs a .2, etc. So for the moment I’ve put that on the back burner. Thanks for sharing.

i would love for this to work. i have a 987 cayman from 2007 i just bought in 2022 and i love it. I saw your video and it looks awesome so I ran out and got an nt 530. I am able to select turning signal and I tested it and it works but when I go back in the second time if I leave it as marker I lose the turning signal and it goes back to aide marker. I was thinking maybe the problem is because I swapped my side marker for an LED unit? I wonder if I’m missing a subtle step. basically I went back in and I did not select the drop-down to change the option I just hit confirm and then I selected to exit out and my side marker was off basically so I turned off the car and then turned it back on and it is back to being lit full time with no turning signal functionality…darn it. Any thoughts?
On a side note I was wondering other than four a hack like this do you do anything with this scanner tomorrow?

Is this possible with a Porsche Cayenne (2009 957) or a similar way to code this? I know the European models on the same generation Cayenne already do this from the factory.
Also have a 2007 C2S, I can change my side markers to flashers, but cannot get them to do both even with identical programming as per video. Comfort window opening and closing does not work with key fob either. Disappointed!

Yes for the windows, but not for the sunroof.
Great video. Do you know if there's a work around for the 987? We tried it several times and it only does one or the other but not both.
I'm not sure. Others with the same car as me tried it to no avail. Not sure why it works on my car and not others. But i love it!
This is a great hack. I bought the unit, but how do you get the Porsche option in your menu? Do you have to register online and download it? Is it an added cost option to download it for each car brand?
You need to connect the micro SD card to a PC and download the porsche software using the Foxwell application.
Also be careful changing settings willy nilly. You don't want to change something that's incompatible with the car or it could lock you out (eg no longer allow you to communicate with it) of that nodule.

That doesn't have any programming abilities unfortunately.
Just tried this on my 997.1. Doesn’t work. But what’s interesting is now with ignition off and key out. If I hit the turn signal the side markers light solid and the lights on beep chimes. Hmmmm. Foxwell nt530
That's actually standard behavior. My car does the same thing if I leave either the lights on or have the turn signal on.
Did the website say it's specifically for 997 only? I can't seem to find it. I have a 996 turbo
It might be different on the 996. Which scanner do you have?

'05 987-just got my NT530 today, I was able to do some things with it, but I can't get this to work. Anyone who also has problems figure it out?
Jeff, after programming the side markers as blinkers, did you go back to the side markers, click edit, then see side marker as the default value? Shoot me an email as carandtruckfanatic@gmail.com. would love to figure out why this works on my 997.2 and not other people's.

Hope you are making a commission on all the NT-530’s you’re selling here. Like others with a .1, bought one and neither this or the window opening hack work. Encourage you to do more research before declaring it will work on 997’s. That statement was too broad in this case.
Hi Alan. That's strange. There are plenty of 997.1 owners who have success coded their cars. What happened after you enabled the changes and what year and trim is your 997?
@@CarFanatic I have an ‘08 S. Nothing happened in either situation. Attempted to reprogram the side markers per the video, including going back in and resetting to the default. Nothing happened. Same for the windows…..tried to reprogram the driver’s door.

This may be a case of the Porsche software version the NT530 is running. The latest version disabled some things the earlier version had available, like doing a PDK clutch adaptation on the 987.2, 997.2 cars. I've contacted Foxwells authorized sales for the US about this - and no answer was forthcoming. IMHO - the actual support by Foxwell is very poor, so be forewarned before purchasing one.
