    I drive my Boxster with the roof down (as they are intended) so visibility is fine.

    5 things I hate about my 986 boxsters ...paid 10k aud .....goes around corners too fast.....easy to wrench on....the uneducated think I’m driving a 911....the permanent smile lines on my face

    Doesn't go through tires too fast if you match your tire speed to the ground speed, and have them go straight more than sideways. I get 20mpg around town, driving hard, 30mpg on the highway in general, and 34mpg on the highway IF I can keep it below 75mph. Rough roads around here, and my car never makes a squeak- rock solid in and out, but it's only 19 years old and may start to get old someday. And if you can read directions, watch UA-cam videos, and turn a wrench, you can maintain the car for 10%-20% of dealer maintenance costs.

    He's right about the seats. I lost 30 lbs and now they're fine but if you're a bigger dude, dont but this car.

    For the stereo, you can buy the Dension gateway for around £300 if you shop around, you can then connect your phone via bluetooth, and connect your phone or IPod for music and it all appears on the screen like factory integration, you can get the latest map CD for around £30 on Ebay, the rest of the issues seem to be down to either expecting SUV comfort bells and whistles from a pure bred sports car or just down to being clumsy.

    My seats are very comfortable, all day long kind of comfortable.
    Never had a problem with mirror size.
    Roof up visibility not good.
    My steering wheel a classical masterpiece.

    It's pretty common to swap out seats and steering wheel in sports cars. Also you're supposed to drive with the top down always! helps with visibility. Definitely agree with the stock radio / CD players being pretty mediocre. I think my top gripe is they're very hard to work on, and not particularly reliable. Nice & fast & upgradable though.

    I had the same visibility problems in my E89. There's a particularly nasty junction on a fast country road which is at 120 degrees and at night or even during the day I could see literally nothing, and had to take a leap of faith that someone wasn't gonna plow into me. Full throttle and pray for luck.

    The first 4 things I hate about my Box are that I don't get to drive it enough. Can't think of a 5th thing. Apparently I'm not too big for it. And insult comedian Blackporsche roadster is right, you can tell it handles great by looking at it when I go past you with a big smile on my face. Also, you can tell it handles great by looking at the big fat tires on it (aka tyres).

      Yes they are, I did mention at the start that I love the car. Nothing that would put me off buying one.

    I can honestly say that the only thing I hate about my Boxter is that it's 10 years old. Other than that, the Missus would go before I got rid of the Boxter. Put the roof down and it's better than sex (at my age). I drive it rarely (about 2,000kms p.a.) but when I do, it's a delight. So eSissyman, I'd urge you to get rid of yours and buy a Ford Focus. You'll find lots to hate about that.

    Agree about the visibility, but mine (2010) has the bigger mirrors and the steering wheel like your 911. I also got the sports seats and put an aftermarket head unit in.

    You can fix the no-aux-problem by using an mp3-fm-transmitter. A little divice that cost me 10€ on the internet. You search for a free frequency (only once for the area you live), plug it into your phone, tune in to that frequency and can listen to your music wirelessly.

  • @arricammarques1955
    @arricammarques1955 6 років тому

    1) Mid-mount engine, harder access for repairs. 2) Lower riding sports car, notice
    uneven, bumpy roads 3) Higher insurance rate, 4) Lower petrol economy.

    • @mikemcmo
      @mikemcmo 6 років тому +1

      Yes, you have to limber up and contort yourself a but to work on it. But part of the fun is witnessing up close the engineering that packs that engine into that little space. 2) The "ster" in Boxster is because it is a roadster, first invented by the British, so that you get down and feel the road- so try to find a smooth one. I think the only reason I haven't been sent walking home without a license is because with your butt 12" off the ground, it always feels like you're going faster than you are. 3) Maybe a bit, but worth it. Shop around. 4) That's a tradeoff you should expect. It won't be mistaken for a Prius. 20mpg city/30mph highway/34mpg highway if I keep it under 75mph, when I am up to that challenge.

  • @Felyxorez
    @Felyxorez 6 років тому +1

    Couldn't agree more with you. What were they thinking when designing some aspects of the car?
    How are you supposed to know the temperature set on the manual ac if it's only a bar progressing indefinitely?
    Even the PCM of the 2009 model is so outdated it's sad.
    It's like they said "yeah we just built the best roadster, it drives fine so just get the rest done asap."

    None of what you mention should have come as a surprise. Why did you buy the car if you are whinging about its faults?

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому +3

      Walter Sickinger I never said it came as a surprise. I said at the start that I love the car. You can love something and still point out things you’d rather were better, which is what I did here. I also made a video called 5 Things I Love about the car.

      don't think he's whining, its his opinion of what bothers him. I love mine, will drive it until I die, then I;ll be buried in it. awesome fun classy lovely car

    Number one reason would be IMS bearing Failure. Requires a dual bearing conversion. Might as well replace the clutch while your at it.

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  6 років тому

      Lorenzo Mendez That wasn’t an issue in later cars like mine as they were already fitted with upgraded IMS bearing.

    Interesting/informative video, but why did you purchase a Boxster if you already own a 911 - because it's a ragtop? Just wondering...

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  5 років тому +1

      The 911 is quite special and not used everyday. The Boxster is my daily. I’ve sold this car now and have a 981.

  • @triode1212
    @triode1212 7 років тому

    I had a 2008 Boxster S and agree with all of your gripes, I now have a 2011 Boxster Spyder and the PCM/Nav unit in it is a whole lot better. I never noticed the size of side mirrors on my Spyder but after watching your video, I think they are larger than my Boxster S. Also I have GT2 seats in my Spyder and they are surprisingly so much better than the comfort seats in the Boxster S. I used to get backaches with the Comfort seats but now I can drive for hours in the GT2 seats and don't suffer from them. You'd think that the GT2 Carbon Fiber backed seats would be uncomfortable not having as many adjustments as the comfort seats but some how they are better.

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  7 років тому +1

      Triode 12 The Spyder is gorgeous. There's one at my local Porsche dealer in black. Great car but at £47k it's expensive. Great if you own one already! Glad you liked the video.

    • @triode1212
      @triode1212 7 років тому

      Thanks. It is even more expensive down under than in the UK. New they were $180K AUD or circa 100K GBP so 47K GBP is "affordable" in comparison. They are also quite rare in Oz with only 37 in the country and most of them are PDK units. Mine is a manual. Being a limited import down here, they tend to hold their value. I'm keeping mine for life.
