I just picked this up today and they had all kids of transition shields. $758 was the total price but man it is so comfortable and the transition shield is was the best selling point especially living in South Florida. Really excited about this helmet.
Don’t worry, it’s a self-correcting problem, he’ll take one bumblebee or Junebug to the face and he’ll realize he was being stupid because all of us were there at one point!
Just got this helmet coming from a 180 dollar Sedici adventure helmet. The Sedici is nice for those slow, hot days on a dual sport but absolutely terrible for everything else. This helmet is so nice! Infinitely more quiet and less fatiguing.
I have the RF SR right now and waiting for my RF-1400. First off you shouldn’t be riding at highway speeds with the visor up. You’re lucky that this helmet has this feature. I guarantee the RF SR shield will be ripped off at those speeds. Stay safe and looking forward to riding with this helmet.
Not a big deal for me. I usually ride the shield down in high speeds. It’s crazy to have it up during the high speed. I just got the RF 1400 nocturne green/white.
Wanted to like this helmet coming from the RF-1200, (which is great) but not so much. To hard to get on, to tight in the cheek. and don’t like they moved the visor lock to the center, difficult to open. To bad, less then a year old, just purchased the X14 today. Seams to check all the boxes and fit was spot on!
Need some insight on choosing a helmet, thinking between the: nexx x wst3, agv k6, shoei rf-1400, shoei x-15. Would like a price justification as well since shoei is way above the others and I don’t really see why. Any help would be appreciated 🙏🏻
I’ve got a modular from H-D. Definitely not the nicest helmet out there, BUT! You can lock the visor in the up position. I did a 4,000 mile trip on my FXLRST last year, in the mountains of Virginia, and I want to say I had mine locked in the up position for like 70% of that ride. Definitely looks a little funny, but all the fresh air on the hot, sunny days made it worth it.
That’s its feature, shark helmet does that as well. I don’t know about the agv but it’s nice to have when you go from 60mph-190mph roll race lol. Sometimes you need to hear the honk😂😂
I still have the Shoei X-11, it came out in 2003, and that helmet is still comfy. I replace the liner every year. My x-8 and Legendary X9 sit on my shelf. Shoei makes awesome helmets.
I still rock a Shoei X-11. I have two but my replica X-11 is out of commission due to my run-in with a deer two years ago. I’m ready for a new helmet though. I really love my X-11 though.
Does your nose and mouth almost touch the front of the helmet? I have that situation with my x14, it feels so bizarre and just wrong. Also seems really dangerous. My gt air doesn’t give me that issue.
@lucasschultz3811 That is a good thought. It seems to fit well according to the shop and from a comfort level. I added thicker cheek pads because I am losing weight, or at least head fat. Before adding thicker pads, I was getting some weird lift action at high speeds with strong headwinds. I put a really tall givi sheild on it yesterday, hoping it would help. It did help with the volume but vibrated my head so bad on the way to work this morning that I took it off on my lunch break. The search for an answer continues.
I bought the RF 1400 last year. Great helmut! I do have the transitions shield and it works perfectly. Pricey, but worth it. I ride open shield around town, but have it down at higher speeds. I almost never close it completely, leaving a small gap for more ventilation. HIghly recommended.
Do you have issues with wind noise? My rf1400 is mind bending loud unless I ride with the visor up, or if I stand up. It is super quiet when I stand up. I am getting some weird wind iff the front if the bike. No head shake but goid grief is it loud. Even with ear plugs in.
Currently using a Scorpion EXO-1400 and have a second Scorpion, found their fit for my head is excellent and have really liked the EXO-1400 Carbon. Currently I am going down the rabbit hole reading all sorts of reviews on the Ruroc Atlas Carbon 4.0, pretty sure I am going to go for it.
I’m just a random persons review but I’d avoid Ruroc. They’ve come a long way but they still aren’t quite there yet. I got an atlas 4.0 previously and it came with a couple chips in the paintwork which they said “we’re unavoidable and just part of making a helmet”. I did get the wrong size and they were nice enough to let me send it back and send me out the next size up but I was waiting almost 6 months for it which was a complete joke. It’s not a quiet helmet. It feels subpar in comparison to my HJC RPHA 11 and my XSPR which yes are much better helmets but the RPHA 11 is the same price point and now the NXR2/RF1400 is around there too. Just a heads up.
I'm mostly deciding between this and the AGV K6. I like that the K6 has a lock on the bottom to be able to keep the helmet cracked open slightly while riding. I really like the Shoei but that feature is really pushing me to the K6 even though it seems worse in terms of build quality. Do you have any experience or feedback from friends with the K6? Also, how does the matte colour hold up compared to gloss? Matte looks like it won't age as well or will be harder to clean so also deciding what to get in terms of that.
Did you decide which one yet? I’ve had the K6 for a few years now and it’s been great but is a bit noisy on long highway rides. Just tried on the new K6s and the RF1400. The Shoei is a bit heavier but feels more premium. The interior is snug and really presses against the cheeks, feels like a track helmet. I would recommend the K6s for a more everyday helmet. Light and easy to put on and off, not sure if noise has improved though
@@victorjay9586 I ended up going with the Shoei and have no regrets. Feels incredible at high speeds, no drag when I turn my head when making a lane change. Nice and snug. Fits way better than my previous Arai and quality is better. I also realized after that Arai and Shoei definitely do not fit the same. K6 is loud due to lightness. And I heard the materials just don't hold up as well. If you really want to upgrade your helmet and it fits the budget I'd go for it. I really wanted gloss black because it looked easier to clean and was more wear resistant. Ended up getting the matte black and I am happy with it. I'm careful with the cleaning and the matte black matches better with leathers in my opinion. I remember when I was at the store the visor button was finnicky as well and didn't seem like it would function well enough, and I could still keep the Shoei cracked open at lower speeds, so that was also a deciding factor. Hope it helps.
Nice review! I have an RF1200 with the photochromic shield, it is great, but it doesn't get quite as clear as a clear visor at night, and not quite as dark as my tinted shield in daylight (and if it's raining the UVs will still darken the shield some, even if its cloudy). So super practical and you don't need to carry an extra shield, but it is still a little compromise. As for the gold visors I'm not a fan because car drivers can't make eye contact with you.
That's good to know about the photochromic shields! As far as eye contact is concerned, I feel like you just gotta ride like everyone is trying to kill you, and you know, no face no case 😉
I really loved my 1200 especially as a motovlogger (on hold for time being) but time and one good solid hit left me question it’s integrity afterwards so no longer use it. I was hoping it still be on the store shelves but the 1400 took its place. Think the notch in center of visor was a horrible idea 🤦♂️
I like my 1400 and think it’s the best for the price there another one i can’t remember the name but it’s like $1200 and I couldn’t justify spending $600 more
Im running an HJC RPHA 11 Pro, and the helmet is great. Im going to get a chin curtain to reduce wind noise. But I will definitely look into the Shoei models and possibly the 1400. Thanks, man!
another useless review. there is no such thing as a perfect helmet, perfect car, perfect motorcycle, etc. it can be either of high quality and innovative, or not. the rest is subjective.
Boy, you must be fun at parties, captain obvious. The point of any review is to give SUBJECTIVE opinions for people and talk about the features of a product before someone goes to buy them. By your definition all reviews are useless, kinda like your comment I guess 🤷🏼♂️
Yea. I feel you man. I like my shoei as well but the one fatal flaw is that it doesn’t hold soup very well.

Nice review almost bought the RF 1400 over the weekend now I am going to buy it! Thanks
Who rides highway speeds with the visor up? Get a helmet made for that.
Not uncommon at all. Better that than not riding with a helmet.
Not everyone can afford or wants multiple helmets, my guy. Sometimes you gotta look for something that can work in as many situations as possible.
really....imagine how hard it would be to close and open if the visor would stay up at 60mph
Riding with it open is the only way I can make it quiet. Still trying to figure that one out.
Don’t worry, it’s a self-correcting problem, he’ll take one bumblebee or Junebug to the face and he’ll realize he was being stupid because all of us were there at one point!
Shoei designers, "Damn! We just can't keep the shield from falling down at speed."
Shoei bean counters, "It's a FEATURE!"

The visor up issue isn't a flaw.

That’s a fair point for sure. Most of the time at speed you’d want the shield down. Sometimes you just wanna feel that breeze though ya know? 😂
Green and white nocturne??
@@CassidyCarson I ride with my shield up on the highway all the time. I like the air in my face but I can adjust my windshield while riding.

Most helmets have adjustments.
On the market for an helmet. Are the transition shields available and do they work well?

I destroyed my RF1400 two months ago. It definitely saved my life. Loved everything about that helmet.

Wonder how it compares to the RF SR quiet wise?

Careful, all helmets should be replaced after about 5 years. I wouldn't trust a helmet that old to hold up in a crash. They degrade over time.

How fast is highway speed for you? Does it close at 60 or are you going much faster for it to fall down?
I'd say it starts to close around 60-70 and anything over 75 you can forget it 😂
It closes for you when you go fast? How is that not a positive
Can be annoying if you want it to stay open on a hot day or something like that, you know? Every now and again you just wanna feel the wind, man 😂
