Ruroc appears to have perfected the art of selling a $100 dollar helmet for $450+; and bribing UA-cam creators into pushing the product. Thank you for the honest review.
Ruroc puts 100x the energy into marketing that other brands do. They NEED TO because the product itself is shit. Glad I saw the light before spending, my new K6 is a far better helmet in every way
My thoughts exactly, I’m not going to trust these UA-camrs with sponsored products . I hate this helmet and I only used it for 2 days before I went another helmet
Just like fashion watches, people need to fall less for trends, and move more towards classics that stand the test of time. I suppose their marketing team does well
I think it they should be charging $200-300 range. Have you wore a $100 helmet? I think you have to give them more credit than that…..tho they shouldn’t cheap out with the pads tho and blocking ppl from reviewing the cons of the helmets is just bad policy from a company and is coming back to bite them in the ass. I like their style and hope they learn from this and make a better product for the price.
Not much beats a Shoei, but because “big” UA-camrs are paid to tell the crowds how awesome the ruroc is, people become blinded and think it’s the holy grail. Anymore, I don’t believe much of the so called reviews from these people. This video is very informative and I appreciate your integrity on this.
@@DownTheRoad66 Otherwise the YTer is placing the importance of the check over the importance of integrity, honesty, and the trust of their followers. In my day, we'd call that a sell out. I've noticed a "big" YTer who gave version 3.0 excellent reviews has gone back to using 2.0 version in recently posted videos.
I got my Ruroc a few months ago. It sets on the shelf next to my spares. I wish I would have waited and found this video before spending 450.00 on a 150.00 - 175.00 helmet. Glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work.
@@josephmichael4219 As far as helmets go- bell, Shoei, and arai man. Stick with what’s good and don’t waste money on taking a chance. They all have helmets at every price range; from entry level to top of the line (like rf-1400)
@@josephmichael4219 Rolls Royce = Arai, Shoei, Schuberth, AGV (only top of the line models), Bell (only top of the line models) Mercedes = AGV, Bell, HJC, Airoh (some), Icon (some), Scorpion (some), Simpson (some) Toyota = Icon, Airoh, Scorpion, Bilt, Sedici, Shark, Simpson Trash = Ruroc never heard of Furygan. just get the best from the start to avoid all the headache down the road
I pray people start seeing these “influencers” for what they are…influencing people for a check, selling out. If you listen to anyone just because they have a UA-cam channel you’ve lost your mind.
This iw why I love not sponsored channels. Great job, great risk. Hope it pays off. I REALLY appreciated it. More what I expect from a Fort9 video. :-D
My review was one of those 65, I was challenged and it was removed for sharing my experience on the product, really appreciate that you made that point. Speaks volumes of the company.
Got to agree, I posted a question on their facebook page asking if anyone knows if the atlas 2.0 comfort kit fits in the 3.0 helmet because i need thicker cheek pads because i got the wrong size of helmet, They even removed this from their page, I didnt even say their cheek pads were rubbish or blame the helmet quality for needing thickers pads I blamed me getting the wrong size, but no they still removed my question, I feel they want to avoid drawing any attention to the below par cheek pads. For now my atlas 3.0 is on a shelf and ill continue using my simpson venom as thats actually safe
@@MotoSoulTherapy I think they actually have to approve your comments now. I inquired about the same thing asking the community was there a way I could fix the sizing issue and never saw it get approved
@@fredp8388 yeah its a bit ridiculous that a genuine question with no hate gets removed just because it points out their sizing might have an issue. they have control over any posts but they dont have control over comments on the posts ive noticed a lot of people get to say their real opinions within post comments.
Dude, awesome content! Thank you for showing the community what they are potentially getting from a safety standpoint. Always have thought Ruroc helmets have looked dope but you won’t catch me getting one, especially after your in depth analysis. Thanks for making the community safer and swaying them to buy other expensive stuff for their rides instead of this product.
Background: I've sold helmets in motorcycle gear shops for about 5 years. Brands I've most experience with, in no particular order: X-Lite/Nolan, Shoei, Arai, HJC, Scorpion, Schuberth, iXS, and then less experience with many other brands we sold less of. However, I'm NOT a motorcycle helmet designer, safety tester, materials engineer etc. First impressions, before you even started the detailed breakdown, looking at the split helmets from side on: - Shell: - The Ruroc shell is a lot thinner. It may be all or partially carbon fiber - but it's important to question whether being carbon fiber makes a shell "better". - Some of the major brands aren't very keen on building 100% carbon fiber helmets. Helmet shells need to balance multiple ways of behaving with impacts. Most premium helmets use multiple layers of different materials for the shell, including fiberglass, aramids and carbon fiber. Thus, often even the "carbon" options from the brands usually just include *more* carbon fiber in the mix rather than being all CF. When Arai built the RX-7V RC, a carbon model ofthe RX-7V, they developed their own proprietary carbon manufacturing technology and the helmet costs over 3000€. - I'm unsure whether HJC and Scorpion models are 100% carbon fiber as it's not immediately obvious from the websites. However, while the HJC website says, for example, that the RPHA 11 Carbon has a carbon fiber outer shell, the catalogue itself states it has a PIM+ Carbon shell. The catalogue also explains that a PIM+ shell is a multi layer design with, again, fiberglass, aramids, carbon fiber, carbon-glass hybrid fiber and organic fabric. - A notable exception is Arai's shell design which just uses fiberglass. They use different shell thicknesses and special features to make some parts of the helmet more rigid. Still, if you go out to a shop today and squeeze, flex and whack on different helmets, you'll notice Arais tend to be a lot more rigid than others. Whether that's a good thing is unknown. Arai says that a helmet's shell must be as rigid as possible to allow a softer EPS foam liner, while for example Shoei says that the shell should flex in order to participate in impact dispersion. - So back to the cutouts: While being 100% CF might allow a thinner shell that's as hard as a thicker multi-material shell, I'm not sure that's entirely a good thing. Notable is also that the Ruroc seems to be fairly uniform in thickness, while the Shoei employs different thicknesses of the shell in different areas. - The shape of the shells seems comparable, which I'm happy to see. The new ECE 22/06 helmet standard tests for glancing impacts, which for example Arai has been raving about for decades. The two first helmets to pass the new test were the Arai Quantic and the Shoei NXR2 (the RF-1400's name in Europe). An important factor of glancing impact performance is that the shell shouldn't have too many protruding parts, so I'm glad to see Ruroc hasn't gone too far there. - Let's move on to the EPS liner: - The expanded polystyrene (EPS) liner is the part right under the shell. It's the primary shock absorbing part of the helmet. Premium helmets often feature different densities of EPS in their EPS liner. For example Shoei constructs the EPS liner from several parts in strategic areas of the liner, to account for different impact characteristics, while Arai uses a single piece liner but it's made by injecting different densities of EPS into the same mold. - From just the side on image I can't see any different parts to the Ruroc EPS liner. However, I also couldn't say whether they were using an Arai-like multi-density single mold technology. It seems unlikely, though. - Now the comfort liner: - The comfort liner also plays a function for helmet safety: It participates somewhat in impact absorption, and crucially it keeps the helmet in place and in the right orientation. It also absorbs rotational energy. While some manufacturers have incorporated rotational dampers such as MIPS, others rely on the comfort liner sliding between itself and the EPS liner. Apparently as Arai and Shoei's new helmets have passed ECE 22/06, this works too. - Comfort itself shouldn't be overlooked either. A hot, sweaty, uncomfortable rider could have a harder time focusing on riding. And nobody wants to get skin problems from their helmet either. Fortunately I haven't heard of the latter in any great numbers. - The comfort liner is usually the first place to wear in a helmet. This could mean a less safe helmet if the helmet begins to move on your head due to the compressed or worn out liner, and of course a worn liner means a miserable experience in using the helmet. - From the quick fitting and ride review, you can tell the Ruroc, while probably the correct size, doesn't adequately stay in the right position. - I can't tell from just images how well the Ruroc comfort liner moves against the EPS liner. - The Shoei seems to have at least better looking materials than the Ruroc. - The visor: - The main difference I can see here is that particular shape of the Ruroc's visor and visor opening. - First, the up and down viewing angle is more restricted. A smaller visor opening could mean a more protective shell in the front area, yet it also makes it harder to see the instruments of your bike. - The intricate bottom of the visor opening of the Ruroc could lead to problems with the fitting of the visor into the opening and the gasket, which in turn would lead to whistling and water ingress. The gasket itself also needs to be more intricate, which makes me wonder how well it will last. - Neither helmet uses a flip down sun visor. Some love those, but they do have drawbacks as well. The helmet needs to be larger in the forehead area, and the EPS liner is not as securely connected to the shell of the helmet. Also, the helmet can't be ventilated from the forehead area. Of course a sun visor also adds weight and complexity to the side of the helmet. - Testing: - Any helmet sold in the EU for motorcycle use must have an ECE 22/05 certificate if they are an existing model, or an ECE 22/06 certificate for new models. Further, organizations such as Sharp, FIM and a french Sharp-type scheme test helmets and give a consumer-comparable rating. Theoretically then, all helmets sold in the EU should be safe. - However, a fairly recent test ordered by the Swedish Testfakta.se showed that helmets on the market with the appropriate certification had potential safety issues. In the test, two helmets out of eight tested failed the rear impact test. They had struck the back of the helmets in the curb test in a 90 degree angle instead of the 45 degree angle specified in the ECE test, which had made the helmets fail. The question is, are you always going to meet the curb at a strict 45 degree angle? See the Testfakta.se articles at www.testfakta.se/sv/mc-hjalmar/article/mc-hjalmar-klarar-inte-sakerhetskraven-i-test and www.testfakta.se/sv/article/mc-hjalmar-byggda-standardens-krav . Google Translate does a pretty good job there. - Further, all tests including ECE, Sharp and so on, have a specific set of tests they do at specific angles, orientations, velocities etc. The challenge is to remain fair to manufacturers, uniform in testing methods, applicable to real life, and labour and cost effective. The new ECE 22/06 added several new impact sites to be selected at random, and a whole host of other improvements. UA-cam has a few good videos from Bennet's Bike and Moto Legends for example. Check them out! - Whether a helmet has achieved a particular rating or test certificate is not all you should consider. - Final considerations: - After five years of selling helmets, my *personal* philosophy for choosing a helmet is: 1) Buy a helmet that fits your head shape, feels good, and suits your *riding position and style*. Realize that different helmets suit differrent uses Realize also, that manufacturers use different head shapes, which yours might match up with or not. Try before you buy! 2) Buy from a helmet maker you genuinely trust to give you a product that's safe and high quality. I look first and foremost for: A long continuous history of designing and manufacturing helmets, an in house designing and manufacturing style (i.e. I want to buy my helmet from a company who manufacturers helmets, not a company that designs the helmet and pays some other factory for building them), and a strong emphasis on self-testing and quality assurance. Consider customer care, parts availability and so on as well. 3) Get the model of helmet you need and want, don't save or overpay with helmets. After that price difference is forgotten in a couple of months all I'm left with for the next 5-7 years is the actual physical product, which I will be putting on my head every time I go out for a ride. Now, I'm going to get on with the rest of the video :)
Ever since Chase on two wheels defended Ruroc I take every single piece of their content with an ounce of salt. Never change, stay true like you are now!
@@HeyAddieImTojo In all, he is extremely new to motorcycling and while he has gotten connections that enable him to make entertaining videos, he still has a lot to learn.

Super good video , its good to see a review of the ruroc . Nobody have cut a helmet in two , and i really suprised about a few of the things you found . Keep up the good work 👍👍
For those of you reading the comments to put this in perspective-my first helmet was an AGV K1 (beginner/entry level helmet)...so much of what he picked apart for this Ruroc is almost exactly like my first BEGINNER $200ish helmet is. The padding is very very similar, the helmet is loud, foam was the same, it's not the best out there. However at the same time though, that kind of quality is to be expected for a lower entry/beginner helmet. AGV doesn't market the K1 as "top quality"...but seeing this for a Ruroc having almost the same quality as my first helmet is eye opening to how much marketing/collaborating with the right people can do. The fact that they delete constructive feedback shows improving the quality of their own products is low on their list. THANK YOU so much for doing such an in-depth overview of these helmets. Although I do like the look of Rurocs, I wasn't quite buying what Ruroc was marketing...they seemed to explode over night in a way-yet some reviews were saying they weren't worth the price. Thank you thank you thank you.
Great video. I have had many high cost helmets over the many years of riding. My best helmet has been my RF-1200. I recently bought my wife a neotech 2 and she absolutely loves it even after a 400+ mile day. I will stick with my snell rated Shoei. I don’t trust any paid UA-cam “celebrity “ vloggers. You plunked down your own money so you can say what you want. You have worked hard and given honest opinion about products.
Snell is garbage. It's meant for race car drivers hitting the same spot twice but for motorcycles it increases the chances of a concussion. That's why I always bought my Shoei outside the US since they don't adhere to SNELL standards aka the reason why the names are different. The heavier dense Snell US version is called RF1200 and the globally sold softer lighter version of it is called NXR. You ever make an impact in that US version, you're gonna be bedridden for days because guaranteed more energy will be transferring to your brain. The neotec is great though as it has the softer shell and I believe there's only one version in the world - nothing beats it in the modular category
@@Bingomandingo well said. Its amazing how many people think snell is what they need for a safe helmet. Fortnine has a great video showing how its totally inappropriate for the average road user
Not only that… it can also take your life. Its dangerous to use. It want save your head, like a Shoei, Arai or other good once. You can lose your life using a Ruroc…
I am glad I waited. I was literally deciding between these two helmets. I will go with Shoei. The first video I've seen of yours. And I have subscribed. Thank you for the honest review and content. 👍🏾
Finally someone putting it into video. Couldn’t agree more with you. One thing I would have liked to see is comparing the actual foam inside the helmet (not the liner). There are countless types of foam out there all with different properties and would have loved to see a testing done between them. 1.Penetrative testing and 2. Compression testing.
Great video, I don't know how the algorithm missed this while I was looking for 1400 reviews. I feel a lot better about putting in my order for my Shoei 1400. You are doing the work of few people care to do, yet many value highly. Good man.
You beat me to the punch! I was about to do the *same thing!* You did a great job. The Ruroc pads are such a piece of junk, and you showed that beautifully. Their shell is also junk. Carbon fiber doesn’t mean better, and in fact it doesn’t even mean stronger (people equate rigidity to strength, but that isn’t true). CF has a very specific application that doesn’t become beneficial until you reach track speeds. Their marketing is dependent on people not being engineers. 😁 Also a note on fitment: people are finding the smalls too small and the larges too large, which means the fitment issue is far more than a pad thickness issue. There also seems to be a notable reduction in protection to make space for the Bluetooth.
So I guess all the other big companies making carbon fiber helmets are a waste too then?? You had a bad experience and you just want to pile on calling everything junk when you can't prove that the shell of junk. There have been unsponsored people that have crashed in this helmet and been perfectly fine. It's now fashionable to order the wrong size then blame the company. I ordered a large then realized I was a fringe large and got a medium and fit perfectly fine no movement and comfortable. Not to your liking and junk are two different things
I watched your review and almost canceled my 3.0 due to it but I changed my mind and decided to see it for myself and I was shocked when I found nothing you mentioned wrong with it, so it seems to me you did get one from a bad batch the guy compared the shells and they are very similar ruroc being more resistant since it took him longer to cut Now I just think you’re just trying to catch another boost for your channel from Ruroc haters
First of all, I didn’t order the wrong size- I was professionally measured and went by their size chart. And the helmet did “fit” and I said as much in my video- it’s just miserably uncomfortable and the pads are why. Second, my point is that Ruroc repeatedly tries to put down other helmets because they don’t use CF and are therefore inferior, and that simply isn’t true. It is 1,000% possible for any company to use CF and make a junk shell. It’s just a material. Nobody is saying you can’t like your helmet. If you wanna be a fan boy that’s A-OK, doesn’t hurt my feelings! It only hurts yours, apparently.
@@mototigress You have zero evidence to say the shell is garbage. And it being uncomfortable could very well be it's not for your head, not the companies fault. Even with the right head shape I've had other helmets from big brands that aren't comfortable on my head. Lastly, if it was just about your opinion then you wouldn't be on EVERY ruroc hating review talking shit about the company. You take every opportunity to bash them therefore discredits everything you say.
almost bought a Ruroc and then saw all this controversy and started down the rabbit hole. I'm super thankful for your review as i would've been very upset after waiting weeks! got a subscriber and follower here!
Just got my new RF1400 last week. Had a RF1100 for 10 years and loved it, glad to see people going all the way to get the real information out there and showing us what's inside rather than just suggestive reviews.
That’s how I would expect a fair comparison of helmets should be done. Dan I had almost decided to by a Ruroc about a month ago but held off because I was not sure what color I was going to choose on a new H-D. So a big hats off to you. 👍
Initially, I loved the esthetic of Ruroc & intense marketing strategies. They dropped the atlas 4.0 & said they had them ready to ship. (Boy they made a fool out of me!) I purchased the blue carbon with 3 different visors for a bit under $700 waiting anxiously for about 2 months… nothing transpired! Waiting to more months… nothing transpired. Finally got someone to email me back because calling doesn’t work… they were still in production!!! False advertisement all across the board and content creators sold out for them. The amount of people I unfollowed for wasting my damn time. Never again! Called the bank, got my money back. Never trust a helmet you can’t go and try on for yourself! P.S… their return policy is trash!
WOW, consider I Daily Ride, It'd drive me insane if I wanted a Replacement Helmet to succeed my outgoing helmet, but hearing Ruroc took more than 2months+ just to even respond to you is just insane... Can't believe Ruroc even still exists
Despite all the negative reviews regarding quality and noise issues with Ruroc helmets, I almost pulled the trigger on the Atlas 3.0. I am so glad I watched your video. All the styling and fancy graphics in the world are not worth compromising safety and comfort. Ruroc is ripping people off and jeopardizing their safety. Thank you for creating such a great, honest review!
Great video! Great information! Subbed! I was actually one of the first orders on that atlas 3.0. I was super stoked, loved the design, and really wanted to try it out. I only found all the drama on it, from losing patience myself, over the wait time. That never ever ever ever ever ended. If they ever delivered them all, i'll never know. Im very glad i cancelled my order. Especially having seen this video. Thank you for pointing out that bit about trust pilot as well. I'll go back and see if my reviews are still there. Anyway, thanks for being one of the good guys. That tear down, or tear apart rather, was very telling. That Ruroc seems to be a poorly thought out helmet.
Great video! Great content! I've been on the fence for a while and liked how the Ruroc visually looked. You've just helped me confirm my decision that I will not be buying a Ruroc helmet. Too many negative reviews, too expensive for something so cheaply made. Thank you for literally getting to the core of it!
Thank you for an honest review, I wish I saw this before I purchased my $600 paper weight. I have been trying to return it since the day it showed up. I have talked to 4 different customer service reps and still waiting on a label. The cheek pad issue is spot on. I am a fan of a bunch of the ruroc sponsered youtubers, but it definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth now knowing they are promoting a sub par product.
@@deathwish8339 I actually got a set of raycons as a gift last year and i love them. I think the differnece is raycon is a direct to consumer company at a price point less than the big name companys. Ruroc is a direct to customer, however they charge premium price for a sub par product.
@@robertcullman8556 Raycon and beats both are garbage for sound quality. Ramp up the base to the point it drowns everything else out. Try Taotronics, you can get a pair for like 40 bucks. You won't go back to the raycons.
I love the fact that you did this video. Feels like this Ruroc hype is fake and they try to push this into consumers throat via UA-cam creators just because they are sponsors. Bravo 👏 as always your integrity is 100%
Beauty must suffer. Despite everything, the RUROC helmet is the best looked in the market. And you can not forget that Shoei has much more experience as it gives much longer. 😉👍🏻
I really hope a sponsor of some sort steps up and helps cover the costs on this one. This was a video that absolutely needed to happen and I don't even have a dog in that fight. I'd say Shoei should send you two helmets of whatever model you want, but that may look bad for both of you.
@@AugustAllen-io4ly True, but a little sideways support through Revzilla or some other shop... there are ways to avoid it being directly supported by the manufacturer. Personally, I wish more equipment was checked out this way. Just like FortNine did some testing on waterproofness and anti-fog treatments. Too often we're left trusting the advertising agency or a "reviewer" who's part of the industry and doesn't really want to piss off major vendors.
Really great review of both helmets here! I bought the Atlas 3.0 in May 2021 and had to wait for the delay. Didn't get my 3.0 until July. Now, less than two months later, the lining won't stay clipped in and I just have not been happy with the 3.0 at all expect for how it looks on my head. I then got my hands on a SHOEI RF-1400 in white and I have been absolutely in love with the 1400. The fit is tight at first, but it has been starting to adjust nicely. Hindsight is 2020, and if I could do it all over again, I would have just bought two SHOEI RF-1400 helmets (1 matte black, 1 white). This video really breaks down what I've been thinking and experiencing and I'm so glad you made this video for us!
Bravo my friend….your honest detailed video is helping all of us make a good decision on something critical to our gear in my opinion. Thanks Dan for great content and doing so with integrity.
Super useful breakdown. I own Ruroc 2.0 and love it. I also knew I was buying from a company new to the game and was buying a style more than anything. Thanks to this I’ll know a little more to look for next time to make a more informed decision. I hope they try to take the criticism more constructively as they grow cause I would like to continue to support them
That is one of the biggest issues with Ruroc though. They just ban or censor anyone that has anything negative to say about their products. That's not a company that cares about making a good product, only making money.
@@vietladin that is something that bothers me as a 2.0 owner aswell. It just seems dishonest to supress any critisism, while its painfully obvious that they know that there is a big discussion about the safety of the helmets, because they started to post videos of them being tested everywhere. If they just released a statement that they received the reviews and opinions and then they sit down to really create a helmet thet lives up to the commercials, and send them out to dealers for people to try them on in person, they could be a big player. But they just go for the money.
What should concern you more, is that the helmet is about as safe as a bicycle helmet. Maybe good up to 20-25mph. Heard people in small crash nearly dying. get your self a real helmet, before it kills you.
I have an RF-1200 and two Atlas 2.0's. Bought the Toxin on release because of the design and the Shogun in the Garage Sale, so half off. I ride daily, commute to work, go on spirited rides, practice in the parking lot, etc. etc. So I ride in all weathers at all speeds and conditions. My Toxin, which I received in May of 2020 is pretty much nearly unusable at this point. The pads are so worn down that it feels like my helmet is 2 sizes too big only after 1 year with moderate to heavy use. I've had my RF-1200 since December 2019 and it still fits like day 1. I've said that Ruroc's helmets are decent, but price to price my RF-1200 is leaps and bounds above my Ruroc and the SHOEI RF-1200 was released 6 years before the 2.0.... so yeah..... This video is a HUGE eye opener, because I don't want to cut open my helmets lol. You've got my sub and my support going forward. Thank you!
Is it me or there significantly LESS protection on the back of the head for the Ruroc compared to that Shoei? Also, the fact that there is no EPS on the sides, right next to your ear in the Ruroc looks a it would fail to absorb damage from that side in a crash, mmmm Either way, this is a fantastic video, Dan. Thank you!
I thought the same thing at first but on second look I think that’s actually because of the angle the helmets sit at when on the table. If you angled them how they would be on a head then the foam ends at approximately the same spot on the head
This was about as honest as a breakdown (literally) that you can get. My 2XL 2.0 fit me similar but not as bad as you showed here. I downsized for my 3.0 and will be curious how it fits. I’m going to be doing something similar, not to the extent of destruction, but comparing it from a measurement perspective to an entry level biltwell lane splitter, a 3.0 Ruroc and a GTAir 2. I’ll be very curious of the result difference and vow not to stretch the numbers. I love my Rurocs for around town, under 60mph and my Shoeis get the go ahead for highways and long distance. Well done
@@Snakeshit294 you can laugh it up when you see the dB rating from each helmet. I own them all, I wear them all. Ruroc ain’t bad at all in terms of noise. To clarify I own rfsr, rf1200, gt air 1 and 2, Neotec, atlas 2 and 3, berserker. I compare a lot.

Thanks for this review. I was about to buy into the hype. I think it wouldn’t be such an issue if they weren’t so expensive. @ $250 to $350 they would still sell a crap ton of these on looks alone.
Awesome review! I just bought the Shoei and a transitions visor. I’ve been a Harley rider using a tiny brain bucket for the last 40 years and after my first ride, the sound level is low and the fit is awesome. I’ve seen reviews complain about the bigger cheek foam but it breaks in and feels great. I absolutely love my RF-1400. I did buy it on your prior reviews and you’ve been spot on! Keep up the great work.
I have a ruroc 2.0 and I desperately want to love it because the look is incredible, the shockwave is amazing and the fidlock is super useful but the padding is definitely lacking hard. I’d love to see a ruroc official watch and react to this video and do a break down and get some sort of explanation out. But I’m 99% sure that’ll never happen.
I saw a lot of comments and reviews like this one and bought s ruroc a size smaller it heavily reduces sound and improves comfort and safety. So if you do wanna get the 3.0 just go smaller than your actual size but a bit. Also the intercom system reduces sound farther. (My suggestion is buy at end of season sale when everything’s cost gets a hundred or so slashed off.)
We need more people like this guy! From owning an Atlas 2.0 I can attest to everything he is saying. I only bought the helmet for the looks and 2 months after owning it I now regret it. The only pros for Ruroc is the design. The cons are it’s loud, fit and finish on the liner is so so bad, the shell coating gets scratched very easily. The first one I ordered was in wrong size and it was a nightmare to get in touch with customer service to do the dang exchange. I should’ve just returned it. I’ve learned the hard lesson. Thank you for this video. People deserves to know the truth.
It's a helmet marketed for the sport and stunt boy crowd. Let's be honest, they're more focused on how it looks and "look at me" than anything else. Ruroc seems to be trying to create value for their product much like the rest of the fashion world (style over function). So to me, it's no different than what ICON or any of the other flashy brands do. It's not for me. My first helmet was a Shoei. I bought a value brand for the wife since she was only going to ride occasionally with me. I wish I would've spend the little extra coin instead for another Shoei. The quality difference is very noticeable.
Thank you for maintaining your integrity and honesty. Thank you also for such a detailed video. If none other do, I appreciate the effort that you put into this video and the product that you produced.
I like the look of these helmets and they have some cool graphics, the same way as I like the look of some of the icon lids, the issue I have is that if your gonna push your helmet as premium you need to be able to back that up or your gonna be found out, especially when people are paying top dollar. Being from the UK myself I'd like to see these do well but I feel they have cut soo many corners like who the fuck tested these lids in the first place, because looking at the lads who own the company I don't think any of them ride bikes, and surely they could of got of got a bunch of top end lids and stripped them down to see what makes a premium helmet. If these helmets were priced reasonably or not pushed as top end I think they would have been received quite well as the design of the lid is good and with a few improvements it could be a great helmet, but they're been branded as premium even with this shit stuffed in as a so called liner. I'm still not sure how they can't get them approved for the track or why they won't send there helmet out for independent safety testing, OK rant over 🤣 before I start with all these clown on UA-cam pushing these lids as the best, I just feel sorry for the people who have to work hard and save up money only to be let down.
I was going to get a ruroc, thank you for giving an honest video and actually showing both helmets in the form that they are, not being sponsored to say one is better. Thank you
I JUST bought one of these to do a review and was thinking of cutting it up. But now I don't have to because you did an excellent job on this. Subbed because of your bravery to spend a grand cutting up 2 helmets for unbiased research. It's not as impressive if you're getting them for free. I imagine it was well worth it though, it looks like this video has great appreciation and positive responses in the community.
My review video is up on my channel for those wanting to check it out, I gave you a shout out in it. I had similar issues with fitment! One correction though, YOU have to pay shipping charges for the return. Found out the hard way. Thanks for the info!
I am a firm believer in "The proof is in the pudding"....that was some good honest side by side pudding!...great video....was never much of a ruroc fan anyways!...thanks for sharing!..stay safe out there!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Thank you for this video. Fortunately for me, their website wasn’t accepting my ApplePay payment, and after several tries, I gave up and bought my close second choice, a Scorpion R1 Air instead. Looks like a dodged a bullet after seeing how ruroc is made. Thank you for your dedication to show what’s inside these helmets. Subbing to your channel and sharing this video.
I don’t think I’ll ever deviate from Shoei or Arai. They’re worth the price and two of the best helmet brands on the market bar none. I’ve ridden with an RF-1200 for a while now and don’t find it to be all that noisy. Don’t have any head/next fatigue after wearing it for extended periods. Will probably upgrade to the 1400 soon enough cause the vents are easier to use when it’s on. Plus, I like the center lock visor.
I currently have an Arai, my wife has an AGV, only reason I personally don't like the Shoei is the fit. My head fits best in Arai and AGV, Shoei is just a tad too round for my headshape. But yes, there's a reason why those three are at the top of the price range, they're worth it.
I have a Ruroc Spitfire Atlas 3.0 with the Shockwave, and while the helmet is light, has good visibility, and the design scheme is awesome, it does have it's issue. The shockwave sounds good, but with the buttons in the back, it's impossible to do anything while riding down the road with gloves on. When a call comes in, I have to pull over to accept the call or call them back later on. And thank you for talking about the fake vents on the sides. I'd say 80-90% of my wind noise is caused by these fake vents. Just as you described, the air seems to hit the area and tumbles and for me, starting at 35mph, causes a slapping sound which progressively gets louder, the faster you go. And all the forums, facebook groups, and even Ruroc support all say that it's just me as there isn't any noise, no one else is complaining about them and those fake vents wouldn't cause such issues. Uh, yea, I can cover them with my hands while going down the road and the noise severely diminishes. Whomever is their wind tunnel engineer, they need to go back and test these. And after talking with support, they told me the plugs to plug the vents would work for the side vents. Uh, yea, wrong. And shipping them here and returning them cost way more than the plugs themselves. So, it was good to see the RF1400 as well, as this will probably be my next helmet. I'm done with Ruroc.
I’ve always ridden with a Shoei. A lot of helmets look cool, but to me the Shoei is far superior than others I’ve seen. But that’s without wearing other helmets.
Having just bought a Shoei RF-1400 this really makes me happy with the purchase. I asked some friends that ride and they all said not to skimp on your helmet.
Awesome video! Thanks for the true brake down and inside out tear down of the helmets. Finally the rurok sheep can see the truth. There are much better choices for the same price of a rurok helmet
I have a Ruroc 2. One year later I’m looking for a new helmet. Love the style and weight but it’s just not a premium helmet. Also, the shockwave is underwhelming
I almost got a ruroc last winter. I don't remember seeing negative reviews at the time but my thought process was why should I spend this money on a "high quality" helmet from a company that's brand new basically and not buy something from arai, shoei, bell, etc. I got a bell race star flex dlx instead. So happy I did, this helmet is absolutely amazing. My next helmet will probably be a shoei rf1400, x14, or even their high end modular helmet. I might just buy the bell star, the one under the race star. Idk yet lol
@@fredp8388 I am still looking for my next lid. However, I have recently tried the Shoie air gt2 and the fit is much better. The helmet is also more quiet and almost as light. Specifically, the Shoei check pads are much thicker and really hold the helmet in place where the Ruroc has some side to side movement.
I agree with everything you said in this review. I waited which seemed like an eternity to receive the helmet. Paid for overnight shipping and took two whole months to be delivered. Pulling the helmet out of the box it was falling apart. I returned it back to them immediately. For the cost of the helmet compared to the quality….. No justification other than they have a kick butt marketing department who can sell snow to an Eskimo. Great in-depth tear down and review of these helmets. Ruroc is not a premium helmet.
Absolutely fantastic comparison!! I currently wear a Simpson Ghost Bandit and admittedly bought it cuz i had a Street Bandit and knew it would fit me as well. Good helmet, great look and fit, but probably overpriced. Was seriously considering the Ruroc due to several moto vlogger reviews, to which i later found out didn't pay for their helmets. I also thought the fact they had their own com thingy was cool too, but have yet to hear of anyone being happy with it. Anyway, thanks for spending your money and time on this video. I'll be looking into Shoei for sure!!
Love the video it confirms the cheapness of the Ruroc and you saved me a ton of money I’m also happy to see another Arizona youtuber do you ever get out to canyon lakes it’s a great road
I love a real, honest review thats goes into detail from using the product to performing surgery on it. I was really considering buying a ruroc too. Thank you sir!
Im not worried about trendy timing, I do what I want and if it performs well due to trend so be it. If not so be it. Inquiring minds (mine) wanted to know what the dust up was all about.
@@GearsGadgets I don’t think it’s a hot button item right now. You missed it by a few months. Why didn’t Ruroc send you a helmet like the other UA-camrs?
I personally think it's right on time for myself, and others. The young lady from Texas with a personal experience, and this dissection review are excellent. If more watered-down brainwashing reviews swamped UA-cam over out of pocket buyers,it would be too late. More out of pocket are posting.
Great video, brother! This is the best one I have watched yet comparing the two helmets. Protecting our heads is the most important thing a helmet should do.
A much appreciated video! the Styrofoam liner of the RR looks of less quality as well, or am I not seeing it correctly? I no longer trust those who touted the RR...
If you can't figure out why its important to buy a good helmet then you should just get a cheap one because your head is not worth protecting. Thanks for this video.
I just bought the RF-1400 after spending months researching helmets and reading reviews. I had a Shoei already and was very happy with it. The new helmet was due to age of the old one. In less than a week I put 800 miles on the helmet and I can say that I am still very pleased with the decision to go with the RF-1400. I had to go up in size from medium to large for a proper fit. What you point out about controlling distribution is a major red flag for any company IMO. Thanks for posting this. Also, I think that after a certain price point, what you start getting with the higher end helmets is the bells and whistles. Cutouts for speakers, removable liners, just comfort in general. Also, and you touched on this already, the sound deadening ability of the RF-1400 is fantastic.
I had been a ruroc user for years. Die hard. Had the atlas 4.0. Then. I recently got the Shoei rf 1400. Let me just say there is absolutely no comparison. The Shoei blows it out of the water on many levels. Quality-ruroc started falling apart fairly quickly. Rubber trim glued back several times. Chin skirt and cheek pads always popping out. And it was damn loud with lots of head movement at high speed. Now the Shoei i have looks and feels much higher in quality. From the interior. To the venting. To the shell sizing. Virtually no wind noise. Or satisfying low muffle at high speed. Zero head movement on highway. And the size of shell looks compact. The ruroc looked huge on my head. Anyway. Great video. Rf 1400 all day any day. It’s cheaper as well. And as cool as ruroc can look. I think the Shoei looks better in its understated sleekness and proper shell size to the head. 8:21
Outstanding work. Ruroc is launching a 4.0 version soon. I hope you will be making another comparison video soon to see if their still ripping people off. Outstanding work. You got my sub, just bought myself a shoei =)
Thanks for cutting them open for us, it shows alot. Other helmet brand use white EPS painted black so if it's damaged it shows up clearly. But you could see the Ruroc helmet has black EPS with no way of telling if it's damaged.
Finally an honest review on a brand I only see as a cash cow investors and owners of the company. We had a guy come in last year with the 2.0 he'd bought and asked for our honest opinion and I honestly couldn't believe how cheap the interior felt, the basic intercom and it didn't come with a Pinlock as standard! As you've said the attention to detail is what they are missing and the EPS (Expanded Plystyrene Shell) Liner is really missing thickness. They have clearly in areas aimed to pass ece testing but not exceed it which is very sad for a premium helmet. Ironically the guy who came in bought a Shoei from us in the end and sent the Ruroc back. What was hilarious was they tried to entice him to keep the helmet and not to leave a review by offering to give him 50% of his money back!!! The sheer desperation of them to have infinite positivity on their helmet is truly astounding and something that needs to change because nothing is instantly perfect, it requires criticism to grow and become better from experts and customer feedback. Thank you for shedding the light.
Glad to see someone actually having a proper comparison instead of just putting their opinion forward as fact. I own a 2.0 and I'm actually really happy with it. I had a 1.0 (and shockwave which is way over priced) that I had to do a size exchange on and the customer service was really good. Apparently there is/was also thicker/thinner padding you can get but this was before the introduction of three different shell sizes with the 3.0 so I don't know if it still an option. The liner doesn't seem premium and the cheek pad issue on the 3.0 definitely doesn't seem resolved from the manufacturing issue they had. Almost as if they tried to find a good replacement but instead of delaying any further they went with what you've got there. Pads on my 2.0 are nice and thick. The side vents were originally open on the 1.0 but funnily enough they sealed them off due to noise. When first released the price was actually pretty good for a carbon fibre helmet but the other options available now mean that's no longer the case. There are other helmets that are almost as light for a similar price and have more functions, I'm looking at an LS2 MX701 Carbon next. I won't be getting a 3.0 but I would consider getting another RuRoc in the future. I like the brand and I've had a good experience so far however being a sole distributor in the UK means problems buying from other countries when it comes to things like delivery times, returns and customs charges especially using only DHL (which is another story). With the set up of their own factory things should only get better from here on out, or at least I hope they do. Thanks for this straight talking video 👍.
Ruroc appears to have perfected the art of selling a $100 dollar helmet for $450+; and bribing UA-cam creators into pushing the product. Thank you for the honest review.
So true all the youtubers talking good about ruroc say they received free from ruroc

First impressions, before you even started the detailed breakdown, looking at the split helmets from side on:
- Shell:
- The Ruroc shell is a lot thinner.
- Let's move on to the EPS liner:
- The expanded polystyrene (EPS) liner is the part right under the shell.
- Now the comfort liner:
- The comfort liner also plays a function for helmet safety: It participates somewhat in impact absorption, and crucially it keeps the helmet in place and in the right orientation.
- The visor:
- The main difference I can see here is that particular shape of the Ruroc's visor and visor opening.
- Testing:
- Any helmet sold in the EU for motorcycle use must have an ECE 22/05 certificate if they are an existing model, or an ECE 22/06 certificate for new models.
- Final considerations:
- After five years of selling helmets, my *personal* philosophy for choosing a helmet is:
1) Buy a helmet that fits your head shape, feels good, and suits your *riding position and style*.

Great job - very well done. So glad someone finally did this. That interior is very revealing!
Fortnine has a great video showing how its totally inappropriate for the average road user

you will be glad you got the Shoei. I have the 1200 and I'm not going with anything else from now on
Best in-depth analysis of the Ruroc 3.0. You did a very job👏 honest and to the point. You’ve earned a👍 and a subscriber.
Ruroc is a trash over priced Alibaba helmet no point in wasting our time.
Also a note on fitment: people are finding the smalls too small and the larges too large, which means the fitment issue is far more than a pad thickness issue.
There also seems to be a notable reduction in protection to make space for the Bluetooth.
so glad you did your review
So I guess all the other big companies making carbon fiber helmets are a waste too then?? You had a bad experience and you just want to pile on calling everything junk when you can't prove that the shell of junk. There have been unsponsored people that have crashed in this helmet and been perfectly fine.
It's now fashionable to order the wrong size then blame the company. I ordered a large then realized I was a fringe large and got a medium and fit perfectly fine no movement and comfortable.
Not to your liking and junk are two different things
I watched your review and almost canceled my 3.0 due to it but I changed my mind and decided to see it for myself and I was shocked when I found nothing you mentioned wrong with it, so it seems to me you did get one from a bad batch
the guy compared the shells and they are very similar ruroc being more resistant since it took him longer to cut
Now I just think you’re just trying to catch another boost for your channel from Ruroc haters
I noticed the box in yesterday's video, great breakdown!
I was the same. Added to a basket about 5 times. But never completed order.
@@JohnGill51 Sometimes we just get lucky!
Honestly saving lives, it may not seem like much but this purchase could definitely can make an impact. Thank you and I appreciate you doing this 🤙🏽
Initially, I loved the esthetic of Ruroc & intense marketing strategies.
I have been waiting for an honest review on Ruroc thanks
I really like your integrity and honest it’s hard to find
We support you bro! Expensive and honest review 👍🏼
Thank you for the 100% honest review Dan. Great info.
It is the same thing for the Raycon earbuds. Those things are garbage too. Anything pushed by a UA-camr makes me pause and do a little research.
Let’s be honest. It’s the ChaseOnTwoWheels.
Didn't skipped an ad. Thanks for this content Man!
Ruroc blocked me on facebook when i dared criticize their garbage helmet. I will never buy anything from that company again.
Good to see one of few youtubers with some integrity regarding riding gear!!!
I love the fact that you did this video. Feels like this Ruroc hype is fake and they try to push this into consumers throat via UA-cam creators just because they are sponsors. Bravo 👏 as always your integrity is 100%
Thanks I appreciate the kind words.
@@GearsGadgets you truly kicked some butt with this video!
The only issue is if it's sponserd by either brand people will say it's not accurate because it's sponsored
Also the fact that you got it in 2 1/2 weeks is amazing. I had to wait 3 months for my 2.0 to come in. So did most other people i talked to.
Thanks for doing this. I always appreciate an unbiased and honest review.
Always!
Good video man, I appreciate teardown and deep dive
Also, the fact that there is no EPS on the sides, right next to your ear in the Ruroc looks a it would fail to absorb damage from that side in a crash, mmmm
Either way, this is a fantastic video, Dan. Thank you!
I notice that myself, the back have gaps, that helmet is junk
I thought the same thing at first but on second look I think that’s actually because of the angle the helmets sit at when on the table. If you angled them how they would be on a head then the foam ends at approximately the same spot on the head
The 100 people that disliked this video, work for Ruroc.
Well done
Do you enjoy your gt air 2? I’ve been looking at them for awhile but haven’t pulled the trigger yet
@@jjvance3 if you want a noisy helmet with no airflow the GTAir 2 is for you…. Complete waste of $600 in my opinion.
@@ChopperFett glad I didn’t pick it up then! I think I’ll be sticking with my RF-1400
@@ChopperFett you say a gt air 2 is a noisy helmet but wear a ruroc? you sir made my day, had a good laugh.
Good video. I was so close to buying two of these, one for me and another for my wife. Waited just long enough that the unsponsored videos started coming through. Great content.
Anyone else notice since he paid for the helmet himself he didn't get all the extra goodies all the youtubers get.. 🙄 🤔
As far as extras what do you mean like the flag and shirt and lanyard and stuff and the pin locks? If so I got those items when I received my atlas 3.0 and I’m not a big you tube star

Dude. Super SUPER impressive video. Very in depth, I appreciate all the thought you put into this. Hopefully this goes viral
Thanks for this review. I was about to buy into the hype. I think it wouldn’t be such an issue if they weren’t so expensive. @ $250 to $350 they would still sell a crap ton of these on looks alone.
So its not an issue that you die, because you used a Ruroc. And would have survived with another?
Awesome review! I just bought the Shoei and a transitions visor. I’ve been a Harley rider using a tiny brain bucket for the last 40 years and after my first ride, the sound level is low and the fit is awesome. I’ve seen reviews complain about the bigger cheek foam but it breaks in and feels great. I absolutely love my RF-1400. I did buy it on your prior reviews and you’ve been spot on! Keep up the great work.
Thanks Bill appreciate you trusting my opinion. I love my 1400.
Simple answer is stop kidding yourself the ruroc looks dumb as hell.
Thank you for posting this. I was 1 clic away from buying a ruroc but now I want a Shoei
Great video. This was shared to me, and I'm glad to have watched it all the way through. Subbed!
Great point about Ruroc and negative reviews. Speaking as one of the banned folks from putting any comments on their FB page
Best breakdown of these helmets on UA-cam, thanks! Very thorough.
What a fantastic review! Very impressive!
Glad you liked it!
If it doesn’t say Arai or Shoei, it’s not going on my head
Having just bought a Shoei RF-1400 this really makes me happy with the purchase. I asked some friends that ride and they all said not to skimp on your helmet.
Awesome video! Thanks for the true brake down and inside out tear down of the helmets. Finally the rurok sheep can see the truth. There are much better choices for the same price of a rurok helmet
Subbed for the fact that you went all the way and sawed them in half. Expensive!
Candy Corn? I would have preferred Snickers. Nice job dude on the breakdown.
Lmfao ever see the movie Halloween 3 season of the witch? With the silver shamrock masks? Well Ruroc reminds me of that movie
The world needs more of this.
Thanks
Idk yet lol
Same here
How is the fit of that helmet compared to the other helmet you own?
I watched it twice and let all the Ads play, thank you for doing this!
I love a real, honest review thats goes into detail from using the product to performing surgery on it. I was really considering buying a ruroc too. Thank you sir!
wait, couple videos back "Ruroc helmet drama", then "motovlogging is dead"? I think you missed the Ruroc train on timing for this video.
Thanks for this amazing review and taking the time and funds to make this vid.
For sure, should pay off in about 10 years lol
It doesn’t seem that the Ruroc is a bad helmet. Just over priced for what you get.
I would agree with that opinion.
$100 to $250 price range.
This was an expensive 22minute video. Earned my subscription sir, great content.
Shoei FTW…clearly. Thanks so much for the review brother. Love your channel. Keep killin it.
