Being a JRPG gamer basically since conception, I am confident that at least 70% of the issues you listed are accurate, and I love it. JRPGs just fill me with this profound sense of joy and are the only genre that I will actively seek out new types of games that fit so I can fall in love with a whole new set of characters and world.
the only problem is Western RPGs JRPG and KRPGs are none of them seem to get the grind to reward correct still i do love RPGs that the story is first and forward above all else.
You should play Fear and Hunger (Both the first and second one), they will tear you a new one but they have a lot of replayability

I'm just into RPGs like Oblivion, Dragon Age Inquisition, Dragons Dogma, D&D, Pathfinder and etc. The aspect of creating your own character and making your own adventure will be something I'll forever hold dear to my heart. There's nothing better than that sense of progression after your character grows stronger. And yeah, I almost aways pick a human with a foockal massive greatsword.
Yeah, I was waiting for that one tbh. Human Fighter for 5 years before I finally branched into Human Paladin or Human Hexblade Warlock lol
Coming from a HEMA perspective, D&D irks me. What D&D calls a longsword is closer to an arming sword. A longsword is a two hander by necessity, however, it is still not a greatsword. So the only required rule change would be that Longswords fall under 2-Hand weaponry. 😊

As a strategy game (RTS) enjoyer, I feel thoroughly left out (by the industry as a whole, too 😭). Though I can only imagine the roast we'd get anyway..

To be fair, do we really need more games? I know more have come out since Age of Empires 2, but the only new RTS games I've played more than a handful of times is the remaster of AoE2.

I have to admit, as an RTS Gamer, I was surprised that it wasn´t mentioned.
Also there are mainly two kind of people in this genre: either "Palpatines" with a perfect plan and playing every Opponent like a puppet, or "Jokers" who just go in and thrive in the chaos they caused. Both of wich could take over the world, if we formed a alliance with the detective genre Gamers.

I am truly horrified by the lack of strategy and/or tactics games. It seems like those always get left out of lists like this... ;p No love for X-Com or Supreme Commander. Among other games.

I have something of a reputation among my friends for both being constantly sleep deprived, and just a little bit maniacal in my love of sneaky backstabbing strategies in games. I'm pretty sure that I never slept more than like 3 hours a night through most of middle and high school. ;p

The script for this video is so well done. If Lucy writes even half of this, geez. I've said it before and it probably seems like a bot gassing her up but I'm dead serious, she should really consider acting/improv/writing her own novel. As someone that writes, people don't know how annoying writing a script can get. The amount of times you have to rework a line or even start over completely because you don't like what you've got 😩. I really appreciate Lucy's UA-cam content as a writer.

Two things. Firstly I am impressed that you managed to put in “let’s start the killing game“ when you were listing off the sins for JRPG gamers, excellent track from Danganronpa V3. secondly, I’m surprised that you didn’t include visual novel games, like code realize. That’s surprising, Lucy.

RTS: forgotten and ignored, just like the genre we love despite sucking at it. Being one of the smaller genres, only beating Bullet Hell and niches somehow smaller. Possibly a control freak like a 4X player, or a lonely boy that isn't a part of a team irl.
Rts had been on the decline lately. Especially regular type, 4x clings on a bit better.

I feel with JRPGs you get SO much value across the different games. Whether it's mindless grinding, building relationships with your party, exploring a huge world with his own crazy lore, etc. You can spend a few dozen hours or hundreds of hours in just a single game. You can play casually just to beat the story, play hard-core to solo a superboss, or speed run getting best girl.
So what I'm getting from this is I'm a sociopath, psychopath, terrorist and a level headed person, unironically listening to Nightcore, I hate myself, and you didn't have to tell me I'm a weeb! Seems about the right jpeg woman!

As an osu! (osu! standard) player, I totally agree to everything that was said about rhythm gamers, except the fact that we only listen J-Pop. Look at the top players top plays and you will see. Depending on their what type of player they are, you will find many various genres and artists (like Camellia the GOAT). You will still see a lot of J-Pop because most of them have an easy to understand rhythm, a BPM of 200 or less most of the time, making it easy to play with DT, a lot of 1-2s sections, bursts and sometimes streams. Also, we keep practicing our stamina and speed by streaming on the table as fast as possible, or to a certain bpm (it usually starts after discovering merami technique video lol) and aim by moving our pens to make certain patterns like stars, squares, fiery jumps, etc. Finally, we go absolutely insane everytime we see it and everytime we see pp, so please never say anything related to 727 and pp to any osugame player, unless you want to see copypastas.

I don't usually watch these types of videos but it's 3am and I'm taking a break from cleaning and said fuck it. When you got to Action-Adventure gamers, I felt personally attacked and I'm terrified. Don't usually like Vtubers, but I might watch some more of your videos because you're actually really entertaining to watch. Hats off to you.
JRPGs is definitely how I cope with social anxiety and lack of relationships.
Gotta say, seeing Lucy indirectly interact with a channel like Daryl Talks Games feels kinda like a fever dream that would leave me questioning how I was logically able to conceive such an unnatural scenario.
Jokes aside I had to think for a bit about where I best fit on this list since my favorite games are OMORI, Undertale/Deltarune, and Katana Zero. I think the most fitting one is Action-Adventure because while OMORI and Undertale are directly inspired by jrpg's, they don't really have waifus so I don't think they really count as the same kinda jrpg's that you were talking about. The most important things to me in a game are good story and good gameplay, especially if an element of the gameplay ties into the story in some way. That means if a character is supposed to single handedly bring armies to their knees within the lore, that characters power better be represented properly if the player has to fight them. I think that's why a lot of us enjoy really difficult boss fights. A lot of games can use their story to hype up a boss and make defeating them feel like a great feat, but eventually that façade fades when you realize you've been curb stomping the bosses and only losing in cutscenes. What we seek is a greater immersion. When our characters struggle, we must struggle. When they are victorious, we must feel that we truly earned victory. We will do whatever it takes to pursue our ravenous desire for escapism. We... really just find the real world boring and don't have many close friends...
So yeah I would say it's less that Action-Adventure players hate themselves and more that they just want something that'll take their full attention, whether they choose to mainly obsess over gameplay and speedrunning or story and lore. (You can tell they lean towards the story side when they sound this pretentious)

When you talked about playing an MMO after it's dead it was such a gut-punch that the imprint of your fist was visible on my back. I was playing City of Heroes earlier today. That game went offline "for good" in 2012. My favorite character is Vidyagames, a psychic surrounded by dos-green pixels whose boundless cruelty comes from her knowledge that she's in a video game. When she kills you it's nothing personal; She just needed the xp.

Bit of a jack of all trades but currently in a First Person Dungeon Crawler RPG mood. It's charming to have more chances to roleplay as my team, but that gets a bit compromised when I try to improve my build for the end/postgame. Closest I could come up with for Labyrinth of Galleria was that all the puppets I made exclusively to support where a hivemind and they were all either named "Cheer" or "Cat" depending on their class.
JRPGs are not only my favorite game genre, they're also largely how I taught myself to draw (starting out at least), which very likely explains my Twitter account full of busty catgirls and shortstack goblins. Thanks for the additional insight into my crippling flaws, Ms. Pyre.

I enjoy playing games with deeper mechanics than the void within me to stem the tide of the inevitable heat death of the universe. Immersive sims... survival/horror which combines crafting, open world, puzzle, RPG and shooter genres and elements. System Shock remake is my top game rn, I can't honestly recommend it enough.

As a horror gamer myself, this is extremely accurate in all points, though I'd like to add something, I don't know if this part is just me, but I also mod horror elements into a lot of my other games that don't have them, I'm not sure if that makes me more or less of a horror gamer, but I feel that shoe fits well enough still.

Though at the same time, you do have to deal with a human who can say "No. Here's your cleric" to your amazing idea of a 4 armed maid quad-wielding frying pans. As a jack-of-all-trades who enjoys and/or appreciates most kinds of games, I truly see a bit of myself in every one of these... even the sports-games, although I barely have any interest in them, but... I feel a connection to them as someone who also puts the shopping cart back after he's done shopping. Mostly a JRPG/Action-Adventure-RPG-player though.

For sandbox players that checks out, coming from someone who mostly plays -Warcrime Simulator- RimWorld, where the entire playerbase decided the Geneva Convention should be the Geneva _Suggestion_
Finding this video a month or more later. My favorite game genre is story games with exploration or other things as added content. As an example, something like God of War or the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor
Maze genre and dungeon crawler genre seem to be the tags on many games i like. story rich is too so remember when the game is only 30 hours long you skipped a lot of lore and intercharacter relationships that might or might not involve the main character.

uhhhhhhhhhh the only way i can describe it is "indie" think ROUNDS, Yomi hustle, will you snail, pizza tower, neon white, tattletail(best horror game change my mind) and cult of the lamb with a slight bit of gtaV...i basically just listed my top faviorite games but for some reason they all have something similar even though they are extremely diffrent genres

Pretty sure her analysis considers your “favorite” game. Not just all the stuff you play. Because we can play any game we like, but we all have genres we find the most fun or end up playing more hours of than others. If you truly don’t have any favorites though then... I dunno. You’re an enigma with no defining features.
I'm not that much of a gamer ( disgusting, I know) but I like games that have some kind of strategy aspect, like, you need to actively think while you play, like with card games or my favorite gacha, Arknights, something along those lines, which kinda correlates with the fact that I have a major in sociology, so I like to analyse, research, do trial and error and bash my head trying to find a solution, It fits that part of me actually.

As an action adventure enjoyer that also dabbles in JRPGs, your descriptions are scarily accurate on both of them. I hate myself and I've spent way too many hours on a single boss fight because I refuse to change my playstyle.
Especially, if you have a very specific character build and the boss is essentially a hardcounter to that. I always refuse to change a build I'm dead set on.
As someone who plays sandbox, rhythm, MMORPG/RPG, and Action/Adventure games...all of this is accurate
