The only Carlton chains I’ve really run long and hard are .404 semi chisel, as most things I cut are large red oak. Very impressed with them in that regard, and I do recall my hand filing to be better than the factory grind.
Eddie, that is an excellent presentation! Suprised you have not gotten more attention on Y-tube with this. Maybe I can help you with file life. I use thread cutting oil on my files; it stinks a little when filing, but the files last a long time. Except, have not used Stihl chain, so maybe that is harder on files. However, the newer Husqvanra chains seem to be harder too and the oil helps there. I use either Mitee thread cutting oil or Brownells DoDrill in a punp oiler. File a half dozen teeth and wipe, re-oil and continue.
I agree. But when I tried my chains I placed them husqvarna oregon stihl and I didn’t like the Carlton at all. I like the Oregon over stihl just because of the price stihl is double the cost of the oregon. But I really think I liked the X cut the best. It’s really nice cutting chain
Thank you for the awesome video and awesome advice. Great knowledge thank you.
I'v been running x cut exclusively for a couple years. I really like it. Like he said smooth and fast.

you should try square sharpening
I'll do a video on it some time. I got the special files and it didn't really cut faster
Stihl not only makes the best chainsaws but they make the BEST chains too.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤷🏿♂️
X cut hands down.
