  • Some small bubbles in the paint leads to major rust repair including lower cab corners, and outer & inner lower door skins.
This video is not a tutorial on welding or painting but reviews the process that I took as a first-timer replacing the damaged panels.

Thanks Dan. I’ve done a fair share of bondo in the 70’s when I was a “kid”! Back when cars rusted after you drove them off the dealer lot. I did rust repair, small dents, and paint while still in HS. This is my first foray into welding in proper panels. I learned to weld by watching as many videos as I could find and practiced on scraps. Good luck on your 56!

Nice job. Where did you get the repair panels?

Thanks! Parts from a combination of Brothers for the passenger lower door skin, Classic Parts of America for drivers side lower inner and outer skin, cab corners from Classic Industries. Vendors don’t always carry the exact same pieces, some of the door skins come up higher on the door and some of the door bottoms include a bit more metal than others. For example the Brothers door skin passenger side was 12 inches tall which fit my needs better than a 7 inch tall skin I previously purchased. The classic industries lower inner/bottom metal drivers side was a bit more complete and fit my needs better than the one I purchased from classic parts. I was able to use a big piece of the classic parts inner panel I purchase for the left side on the right as that door was not as bad.
