This is the song that got me into metal, I remember calling the local radio station and requesting it so I could record it on cassette and listen to it over and over. I'm now nearly 40yo and it's still as good as when I was 14yo.
Kinda same here. I was 10yo when i first heard this song on the tv. I was blown away. I had to get the album asap. I traveled alone with public transport 90 miles to the biggest city in the region to buy the cassette. 31 years later and I can listen to it all day. Never gets bad.
What’s amazing, is as a diehard metallica fan, the fans older than me, i’m 43 will say the black album was the beginning of the end. I disagree. yes, they took time off after this, cut their hair, had families, but to me, their genius never faded
They are artists and make music as the please and want to hear themselves as they have said so themselves, there’s songs on st anger I like more than stuff in master of puppets , but regardless I love all Metallica albums
I agree. They became a different band and that's not a bad thing. Though I do love their first four records "more," I still enjoyed the Black Album and even Load and Reload almost as much. Back when it came out I used to tell people that instead of complaining that Load sucked, they should just make the mental adjustment of trying to judge the record as if instead of Metallica it was a new band's first album, and then they'd be able to appreciate it.
@@jmhaces literally the same band members besides one so no not a new band , and they are artists , musicians they create music as they see fit they don’t have to make master of puppets every album that would suck and get old , instead as the creative artists that’s they are they make music as they feel at current times … sometimes I’m in the mood for thrash and sometimes I’m the mood for more mellow song off load and reload , it’s all good
Damn, your reactions are fun! This song still hits so hard after all these years. My mom was definitely one of the 80's parents that didn't get it, my older brother was such a metalhead, and she couldn't stand it 😆 but they still let us listen to what we liked.
Still think you guys need to check out Unforgiven 2 and 3 from Metallica and how it relates to the first song. Also the solos in them are just absolutely fantastic.
I remember standing in line outside a Tower Records waiting for this album to be officially released at midnight. At 12am, they started playing the entire album on the speakers while we made our way to the sales counter. That would be my first time hearing this track, and a couple more before even buying the album. It was also the last Metallica album I would ever fully enjoy. The controversy of the black album isn't that it is terrible. In fact, it is one of the best rock/metal albums from start to finish. But it was such a departure from what we, as fans, expected from Metallica that it was hard to reconcile that it was still the same band. Suddenly, they were making music videos, getting radio play, and climbing the charts? It wasn't the Metallica many of us wanted. But putting expectations and bias aside, it is a great album. When you get around to it, check out some of the lesser known tracks: "Of Wolf and Man", "The God That Failed", and "My Friend of Misery".
What a cool memory though.... it does suck that we put so much pressure on these bands to always be the exact replica of their older stuff we know bc we forget these bands have tons of pressure from their record companies. This is why albums are becoming less and less these days. Bands and artists are pushing away from the pressure of an expected album and are now spending their time on dropping singles or EP's that have a couple really good songs songs on it instead of a CD with some good songs on it mixed with songs that could be considered good to some of their fans. They would rather spend time on songs they can actually work on and songs they know will do good. But oh what an experience it would have been to wait till 12am to get an album! I've never done anything like that besides go to a 12am showing of Harry Potter before... haha! Nothing epic like this!
@@amberhoward7807 Yeah, music these days is not the same as it once was. Don't get me wrong! There's still great music and great bands out there. After the umpteenth Metallica/Megadeth/Slipknot/Pantera reaction with the same set of songs, it really starts to come down to the reactors to make their video standout and interesting. I could name a dozen bands with a hundred tracks that people might enjoy, but we'll rarely see anyone touch them because it doesn't get them clicks!

Before I started loving TOOL in 92, I was a Metallica fan, they were my favorites! I saw Metallica live three times. The first two where here in Moncton and the last time was for free, up in Montreal, when two older ladies gave me their seats after deciding it just wasn't really right for them. I would have liked to have brought someone else with me, but I was right there and didn't want to miss anything! It was the second night of a two night show promoting Death Magnetic, so they played all the classics and covers, it was awesome!
I have listened to this song since it was released. I think I was 12 or 13. I still forget how damn hard this song goes. Over the years there have been a few different meanings given. The original idea James had when he wrote the lyrics was blind faith in religion and doing its dirt without question, but later expanded it to the almost split personality an addict has when they are in the grasps of a crippling addiction.
Fade to Black, Harvester of Sorrow, To Live is to Die (only a few spoken word verses so it hardly counts), and Motorbrearh...no Hey or Yeah that I can recall. But TBH, when James throws in that guttural "yeah", it's sexy AF.
@@mikethemotormouth The Black Album is bangers from start to finish for me, how did you feel about Death Magnetic/Beyond Magnetic and Hardwired? (poor production aside)
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead I thought Death Magnetic was great. Not quite all killer no filler but very close. Easily their strongest effort in 20 years. And ashamedly, I've yet to hear Hardwired front to back.
So the year this album came out, I was working at a small company. My desk was in the server room and I could close the door and listen to the radio on low. It was around Christmas and my boss and coworkers were playing Christmas music, and it was like three albums that they'd just rotate all day. After about two days I was climbing the walls. The rock station I was listening to had a noon all-request hour, so around day three I called them up and told the DJ that he had to play Sad But True for me because the Christmas music was driving me crazy. I then held the phone out the door for about 10 seconds so he could hear it, and when I got back on the line he was like, "Yeah, no problem, I got ya." Sad But True came on about five minutes later.
I know that you have reacted to WELCOME HOME:SANITARIUM......LIMP BIZKIT did a cover of this song on an MTV ICON for METALLICA.....you should check it out
I don't like much of Metallica, but this song is pretty good. I've never sat and listened to most of their discography, probably something I should do though (give them a real chance). Btw, Idk if you know but Ozzy Osbourne released a new song a few weeks ago called "Patient Number 9." That'd be awesome to see you react to it!
Hello, Friend. I read your comment and a memory from HS blasted me and made my day. 1986(?) and some of the denim clad lads were talking in the back of class about the Ozzy concert from the night before. I was a fan, so I inquired about the show. They said the opening act was boo'd offstage and everyone just kept yelling 'Oz-zy!' I felt anger creep up to my ears by the time I returned to my desk. I turned around and told our 'stoner' crue, 'I hope they never come back here. And mark my words...you'll be begging one day!' 🤣 How dramatic I was...standing up for 4 peeps I don't know, like they were family. I wore Metallica shirts from then on out of spite. Haha. Love your comment...again, thanks for the memory jolt! Rock on...this channel rocks btw 🐱👤
Virtually everything Metallica has put out is better than any new Ozzy.. ride the lightning, master of puppets, and justice for all. Listen to those albums.
Hollywood.... ahahahaha! You and your addendums.... ahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll allow it! And I agree with you! I love this song! It's a really good one! Very groove and just a fun one to sing and head bang to! Love your Metallica reactions! Well I love all your reactions, but I find the Metallica ones to be very nostalgic for me... My dad was a metalhead and I listened to a lot of Metallica with my dad.... I remember being around the age of 4 and singing Enter Sandman in my backyard... my step mom thought a man was in the backyard... ahahahaa!
Obscure memory here but this song was used as the song when Kurt Russell was introducing the Seahawks at Super Bowl 48 before they went on and trounced the Broncos and this song is fitting with how brash and in your face that team was

The head nodding got in sync a couple of times there. Oh and I was always a Metallica fan, but playing Guitar Hero Metallica really made me appreciate them. Kirk is one of the best.
The song is narrated by the drug, you are the addict. The drug makes you do things you normally would not "eyes when you steal". It makes you go through withdrawal when you try to quit "pain when you can't feel". Its sad but true.

THROUGH THE NEVER!!!! ❤️
Snoopdogg has a short version of this song, from the MTV icon show. Grreat versión!
my favorite track of the Black Album
I know that you have reacted to WELCOME HOME:SANITARIUM......LIMP BIZKIT did a cover of this song on an MTV ICON for METALLICA.....you should check it out
As far as Hey and Yeah try Wherever I May Roam Same album ( Black ) as Sad But True. Don't forget to react to Liliac ( Lilly-ack )
This is my fav Metallica song!
Oh... I do believe smoke referenced my previous comment on good old James Turrets field and his ridiculous" Ooooh. YEAHHHAA" shenanigans .
Uhh yea you rly should
Virtually everything Metallica has put out is better than any new Ozzy.. ride the lightning, master of puppets, and justice for all. Listen to those albums.
This song is pure adrenaline, kickass!!!
And his “yeah” kicks ass!
James loves a YEEEAAGGGHH!!! mostly during live shows
Nice Cradle of Filth T-Shirt. Have you heard the "Dusk and Her Embrace" album?
Over 30 year old song. I recall being a kid in the 80's, thinking songs my dad listened to from the 50 's , was so long ago.
Jinjer - mediator is such an amazing song, it would be great if you reacted to it!
As far as I know you haven't done " The thing that should not be " by Metallica that next please!
My fave Metallica song ever
Hollywood.... ahahahaha! You and your addendums.... ahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll allow it! And I agree with you! I love this song! It's a really good one! Very groove and just a fun one to sing and head bang to! Love your Metallica reactions! Well I love all your reactions, but I find the Metallica ones to be very nostalgic for me... My dad was a metalhead and I listened to a lot of Metallica with my dad.... I remember being around the age of 4 and singing Enter Sandman in my backyard... my step mom thought a man was in the backyard... ahahahaa!
Obscure memory here but this song was used as the song when Kurt Russell was introducing the Seahawks at Super Bowl 48 before they went on and trounced the Broncos and this song is fitting with how brash and in your face that team was
You guys should check out the MTV icon Metallica 2 band stood out - Korn covering one and limp bizkit covering sanaterium ( welcome home) and Snoop sang rap sad but true(30 sec ) more artist covered their song but these are the ones that are 🔥
Hey guys! This is an amazing song and I'm so glad that you guys reacted to this but can you guys react to Downer, Serve the Servants, Floyd the Barber, Sliver, Sifting, Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle, Verse Chorus Verse, Mr. Moustache, And Dive which is all songs by Nirvana?
(Saying this until you guys respond Day 5)
Pulling Teeth/Anesthesia ( Chicago '83) by the great late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. Another great Metallica song Welcome Home ( Sanitarium).
"Outlaw Torn"
Or
"Until it sleeps"
PRETTY PLEASE!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Black album: Sandman, Sad But True, Unforgiven, wherever I may roam, nothing else matters are all their main songs. One was from and justice for all. Turn the page was on garage Inc which was all covers.

Comedian Jim Breuer has a Metallica skit that he does One of them was adding award show that I can't remember off the top of my head. He does it right as the band is sitting there and nobody does it as good as he does. I suggest googling it and watching it or reacting to it and it'll all make sense once you see it.. yaaaa!!
Smokey's got a dope shirt on! I know you like cradle of filth but never thought about you guys would buy merch man, love it 🤘😈
We love COF
“I’m you” references the self, at the end of the song. “I” is the self judgment.
regarding what you spoke about at the end of the vide, you need to hear Sacred Reich's "Who's to blame?"
2 of my favorite Metallica songs are Hero of the day and No leaf clover both from the S&M album! If you haven't checked them out, you definitely should!
Nice breakdown guys
Well 'Orion' and 'The Call of Ktulu' don't have any words so you've already lost. :)
