Mustaine was replaced with Hammett from Exodus before they recorded Kill 'Em All and Burton replced McGovney in a similar fashion although much earlier. Metallica's ORIGINAL lineup was: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Ron McGovney, Dave Mustain. After Ron left the band Cliff Burton took over as Bass Guitarist, and Cliff Burton was tragically killed in an accident while Metallica was on tour in Europe in their early years. After the tragic and untimely death of Cliff Burton, we-us Metal-ers started referring to the song Fade to Black as 'Cliff Burton's song'. And for the record, that's NOT a new thing. We-us Metal-ers started referring to Fade to Black as 'Cliff Burton's song' back in the mid to late 80's.
Cliff was the bassist he died during the Master of puppets tour. The black haired guy ( Kirk Hammett) replaced Dave Mustaine before they signed a record deal.
Metallica formed in 1981 and released their first real album kill em all with James hetfield on rhythm guitar and vocals, Lars Ulrich on drums, cliff burton on bass and Dave mustiane lead guitar. They fired Dave Mustaine during their first tour. Because Dave was supposedly a violent drunk and a black belt in Thai Kwon Do or Jul jitsu. But in James's own words he was gonna kill somebody. Mustiane went on to form megadeth. Then they replaced Dave with kirk hammett on lead guitar from the rest of the kill em all tours, ride the lightning, same line up, master of puppets same line up but cliff burton was killed in a bus accident while on tour in Sweden. He was replaced by Jason Newsted on bass for this album and justice for all .Newsted was also on (what fans call the black album because it's all black) it's really just a self titled album metallica metallica. Jason stayed through load, reload ,garage inc ,and then quit the band. The producer Bob rock played bass on st. Anger as well as on some live shows until they got a replacement. They got Robert Trujillo on bass and released death magnetic and hardwired to self destruct. Robert Trujillo was previously bassist for ozzy Osbourne, infectious grooves and suicidal tendencies. So the only 2 original members are James hetfield( not Hatfield) not your fault everyone says it wrong that isn't a metal geek from way back in the late 80's until now. Your wrong about a very important detail , and that is that they fired Dave Mustaine 6 weeks before they went into the studio in Sept of '83 to record their first album, that obviously being "Kill'em All", they called up Kirk Hammet , who was at the time lead guitarist and founder of Exodus, and offered him the job like a day or two before they fired Dave, and obviously Kirk took the job and quite literally overnite became the official new lead Guitarist of metallica and as I said just 6 weeks later they went into the studio to record Kill Em All in Sept of '83, these are rather important details of the bands literal history which is why I typed this to correct you on these couple inaccuracies. 🤘🤘

100% you need to do Metallica’s master of puppets. it’s basically an epic metal anthem with a symphony in the middle. the most impressive thing they’ve ever done, hands down.
Great reaction on memorial day. I'm grateful for all those who have given their lives for freedom. One of the heaviest hardest hitting drummers I've ever seen. He and Neil Peart my favorites. RIP Neil❤
Lars takes tons of shit for being overhyped as a drummer. IMO, as a humble amateur drummer, his drumming on Metallica's earlier stuff was a critical part of the band's revolutionary sound. While not the most technically mind-blowing drummer, his influence on those that came after him has been undeniable. Plus, iirc, he does a great deal of the writing and arrangements for their music. It does make me cringe slightly when he's compared to the likes of Danny Carey because his technical abilities are God-like. I guess it depends on your definition of "greatest", but, just watching UA-cam drummers, you'll see that an overwhelming number of them possess technical and creative abilities that likely surpass those of Lars. He still brings his signature speed and style to their most recent releases, but again, IMHO, he earned his lifetime of respect with their first 4 albums - everything after that, he's fair game for comparison. His live performances in recent memory, though, have received a lot of flack from the internet (TONS of videos doing everything from critiquing his drumming to "Lars-ifying" other music for the sake of comedy). I think it's partly just "cool" to rag on Lars these days, but he definitely does a fair amount of cringy things during their shows, especially things that drummers and other musicians notice and say, "WTF, man."
Lars was a preppy Swedish tennis protege that decided to learn to play drums. He does a lot of things that drummers of that era had a hard time doing. Anyone can drum fast. What made Lars tricky was he played a lot of odd time signatures using triple beats. It's odd to go from a typical 4 beat measure to a 3 beat measure. Other than that he is kinda ordinary.
@@jeremyhanson1019 yeah but his little 4 beat to 3 beat and use of odd time signatures is nothing in my book when I think of what Danny does or Neil did or Stewart Copeland etc. I agree though he is pretty typical and nothing that special. I do think he is the right drummer for Metallica's sound though.
@@sarahp8058 I said he was pretty ordinary. As a former drummer I am saying from experience that it was tricky. Muscle memory when you are used to 4 beat measures is awkward transitioning to 3. Once you get past that...
CLIFF BURTON WAS THEIR BASSIST NOT THEIR GUITARIST!! HE DIED AFTER MASTER OF PUPPETS THAT WAS THE LAST ALBUM HE WAS ON!! HE WAS EASILY THEIR BEST BASSIST!!
Also the clips in the video are from a cult 1971 anti war movie called 'Johnny Got His Gun' that the band ended up buying the rights to as it was cheaper than paying royalties to the film's owners. Also the soldier hasn't just lost his limbs, he's also lost his sight and hearing.
Seen Metallica 3 times. They are consummate performers. Worth every penny I paid. They treat their fans with respect. This is one of their best songs for sure.
This guy was running on a landmine, at that time the bomb fall in and his brains were full intact, but from his body was nothing left. That the awfullest thing that can happen with you in war/life, knowing/realize that you have no life anymore, that every dream is gone.
One was on And Justice for all, which came out in 88. Cliff, James, Kirk and Lars was your lineup for Kill em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. During a European tour after Master, Cliff died in a bus accident. Cliff's replacement was Jason Newsted from And Justice , black album, Load, Reload and Garage inc. Jason left in 2k or 01. Current bassist Rob has been with the band since 03 and has been on the more recent 2 albums, Death Magnetic and Hardwired.
I'm late to this party, but James literally wrote this song about the main character of the movie witch is why they used the movie in the video, this song was released near the beginning of the Gulf war, I was 19 the first time in my life a sitting president declared war. This song proved to people who weren't already fans, that thrash was not just noisey screaming, it takes genuine musicianship to pull this off.
Yo your new guy needs to lay off on the talking while the song's on as I get it's a reaction video and that's the point but the fact he's so close to the mic means he takes over the video from the song which isn't cool and yeah the whole Lars is one of the greatest drummers ever thing is just a tad controversial
"One of the greatest drummers" LOL NOPE He's notoriously gone downhill after the 1980s. Also, Cliff Burton was the bassist. He died in 86, two years before this album. The bassist here is Jason Newsted.
The Black Queen Plus Dave Mustaine was an original member until they booted him for his heroin addiction. Left him sleeping with a bus ticket and the rest of the band rolled out.

This song was based off the movie "Johnny Get Your Gun." The person in the video came back from the war with all his limbs blown off, hearing loss, loss of sight, and loss of speech, hence the designation "One." Cliff is not in this video. He was the bassist that was replaced by Jason Newstead. This song is a Metallica original. I also have yet to have someone discuss the dialogue in the movie that is shown with the concept of the song. No one singles out the dialogue.
Cliff Burton was the bassist of Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett was the guitarist of Metallica the first guitarist was Dave Mustaine Jason Newsted was the bassist after Cliff Burton passed away in that bus accident. Cliff Burton was the bassist from Kill Em All up until Master of Puppets.
Cliff Burton was the former Bassist, who was killed when the bands bus rolled, then rolled over him. He was not on this album. The band was in Sweden on a tour promoting Master of puppets in 1986 when the accident occurred.

Fun fact: This was from Metallica's 4th studio album, but their 1st music video, because they didn't want to be commercial sell outs.
Guy in the middle is the pure specimen example of how to be a "Douchebag"
The one video that not only gives goosebumps but tears. It held the number one spot on MTV for over 10 weeks for a reason. This is a masterpiece!!
Yo your new guy needs to lay off on the talking while the song's on as I get it's a reaction video and that's the point but the fact he's so close to the mic means he takes over the video from the song which isn't cool and yeah the whole Lars is one of the greatest drummers ever thing is just a tad controversial
They need Jason back in the band. That guy had so much energy
Helluva song. Good pick.
"One of the greatest drummers" LOL NOPE
He's notoriously gone downhill after the 1980s.
Also, Cliff Burton was the bassist. He died in 86, two years before this album. The bassist here is Jason Newsted.
Are you saying that Lars Ulrich is not one of the greatest drummers ever?Wtf dude???!?!?!!!
@@simoskwnstantinou9127 On the 80s he DEFINETLY was, now as a whole... thats kind of a harder sell. Especially vs guys like Lombardo and such.
@@simoskwnstantinou9127 Have you seen him play recently? It's embarrassing. At first, it's laughable, but then it just becomes sad.
@@TheBlackQueen I saw them in 2019 and Lars was great
The Black Queen Plus Dave Mustaine was an original member until they booted him for his heroin addiction. Left him sleeping with a bus ticket and the rest of the band rolled out.
homie in middle needs to stop. sing NO, talk over the movie clips in video also a NO
yea, i would strongly suggest that they dont bring him back.
agreed
I agree
@@chrisstorms7511 nah, homie in the middle is actually doing what he should, shedding light on the stuff they don't initially recognize. It's a bit distracting, but over all not a bad thing.
@@natebaldree1937 i would agree with you if everything he was saying wasn't wrong. Never bring him back ever.
Metallica is definitely a band you should see live! I saw them in Charlotte NC back in 97. Awesome live! Love you guys!
Loved the video guys love Metallica.
Ikr there amazing
Gained a new sub, they watched this video and some other's from y'all. And they absolutely love your content. Much love
I love this song. I used to have the 2 Of One VHS. Classic stuff fam. Happy Memorial Day
I saw Metallica at the Boston Garden 97'. Best concert i've ever been to this day.
Even though close a decade separates us....the pain and pleasure of enjoying this Video are the same. God bless you all, and I wish you have a most excellent life.
The album this song is from released on august 25, 1988, almost 2 years after the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton.
Perfect song for today. 🇺🇸 💙
I was in a coma for 4 months. Thank everything I wasn’t aware that time
This is so appropriate for not just Memorial Day but all the disabled and PTSD suffering vets today. Never stop fighting. 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
Cliff was the bass player, and no he died the album before.
Cliff Burton rest in piece. Jason Newsted was the bassist on this album.
Story is "Johnny Got His Gun"
Movie too
The original lineup had Dave Mustaine from Megadeth James, Cliff and Lars! Kurt is not an original member
I don’t know why but I keep noticing Prada looking at the monitor screen and not the camera when he talked to the audience.
Cliff Burton was the former Bassist, who was killed when the bands bus rolled, then rolled over him. He was not on this album. The band was in Sweden on a tour promoting Master of puppets in 1986 when the accident occurred.
"Any one of y'all play guitar?"
Nods of no.
*begin headbanging x3
Awesome!! 👌
You guys are the best thing that I found during this quarantine, love this channel
That means alot to us bro....ur awesome
Yeah I'm glad there's people that appreciate metal
Out of all Metallica songs. This and Fade to Black are my all time fav's . I would play Fade to Black on repeat while I slept. When I was in my Teen's. Nowdays Love to sit back with my friends and play The Metallica Guitar Hero. Or just jam this in the background while playing COD Warzone. To pass time since the world went into quarantine. What else do we have other than our hope in humanity's perseverance to mobilize apart but together in mind/heart and Stay Alive. To make art, play games or listen to Timeless Music Amongst friends. Life is precious we all should enjoy everyday as if it's the last. Rock On Guys great reaction!
Respect (and a bit of envy ofc) for going to such an awesome concert, wish I had had the chance to see Pantera live. That tour must have kicked ass!
Lars isn’t even the best drummer in Metallica.
Facts 😂😂
He’s the only drummer for Metallica tho
Blikka T he means that James in Metallica is better at drumming
Oof
I reckon he is,
Cliff Burton was their bass player. He died in September of 1986. This album came out in 1988. Cliff was replaced with Jason Newsted; who is in this video.
That shirt lars is wearing is from the damaged justice tour for the justice album.. i saw them in vancouver, canada in '89 and had one of those shirts, best concert i ever saw
Saw them in 1989 before they sold out and became Alernatallica
Fun fact:
"The black album" is actually named "Metallica", it's just written and logoed in black on a black background so you don't see it unless you tilt the cover in light hence it was dubbed "The black album"
This was the first video Metallica ever made, and it was their 5th album
4th. Kill em All, lightning, master, Justice. Black album was 5th.
Falling in reverse "popular monster" you won't regret it. Right up your alley. And let the requests flow in. The trilogy is important and the order is crucial. They did a cover of their own song. The drug in me is you and the drug in me is reimagined. "Alone" is the song that started the new sound and for the haters.
One is my favourite Metallica song. Thank you for doing it guys.
Cliff was the bass player, mate.
Dave Mustaine (vocals and guitars) was kicked out just before the recordings of Kill ‘em All, replaced by Kirk Hammett (ex-Exodus)
The classic lineup is them both plus James and Lars. On that video Jason Newsted plays the bass.
Just moved to Phoenix in 1985 and going to AAI for my ASE. Went to Aerosmith and Scorpions, Judas Priest Turbo Lover, but the best was Metallica Master of Puppets and Ozzy Ultimate Sin. Years later I found out whom I'd watched ended up deceased. RIP
I also owned the original ONE Box set with "One" vhs tape, T shirt and a pister I think. Been a while but was awesome
'If you haven't seen this movie, you should, it is an incredible story- 'Johnnie Got His Gun'. The story of a soldier in WWI.
Cliff was the bass guitarist actually
Cliff passed in 86 right after master of puppets and the bassist in this is newsted who joined in 86 but this technically is the 3rd lineup the original was
Hetfield
Ulrich
Mustaine
Burton
That did come from a movie dude. Keep rockin.
Cliff Burton was the bassist, he died after The Master of Puppets album, Jason Newsted was his replacement
