Not many reaction channels touch any songs from Metallica's newer albums. For some popular singles from their 2 most recent albums, check out "The Day That Never Comes" or "Spit Out The Bone". "The Judas Kiss" from their Death Magnetic album is my favorite newer Metallica song, both Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic are fantastic from start to finish (although many people complain about the production but the music itself is epic).
I wasn't a fan of St. Anger, but their latest stuff is some of their best. It's like they tied their roots to what they learned through the Black Album on and merged it altogether.
@@mikeydevlino I agree, "Spit Out The Bone" is one of the best songs they've made in decades and it could easily fit in with one of the old school albums like Master Of Puppets or AJFA. I even had it as my ringtone for a long time, I'm eagerly waiting for them to release a new album!
@@swcoder I couldn't have said it better myself, I feel the exact same way. Death Magnetic, Beyond Magnetic, and Hardwired are excellent albums even though the production/mixing wasn't great. I actually like St. Anger, it's definitely not their best work, but I think St. Anger was a necessary album to keep the band together and it allowed them to bounce back and return to form with the next two albums. The h8 for St. Anger is understandable, but I love it anyways and it's actually therapeutic to listen to when you're going through a rough time and need to release your negative feelings.
In the 80s, my sister had a boombox. In 1989, she moved from mostly Guns n Roses to Master of Puppets, and the Blacktrackin' compilation by Black Sabbath. That was my introduction to heavy. In '91 I bought The Black Album on cassette, in 94 I bought Ride the Lightning and copied And Justice For All, in 95 I copied Kill em All, and in 1997 I bought Ænima by Tool.
Nice reaction. This song is really well done in my opinion. Done about addiction and I think the 4 parts mimic that. First part with "obey your master " is the craving, second slower "nice" part is the high after taking, third part with "telling only lies" is the comedown/withdrawal, and 4th part back to, "obey your master " back to craving completing the cycle of abuse. It was the anti drugs song that parents in the day thought was something horrible, lol.
Oh yes, it is about drugs. This song is a masterpiece! First it is like a seduction and later the ugly truth that you are addicted. The slower interlude always makes me cry and I have no clue why.
I saw an interview with Lars answering the question about the over all meaning of the song. If I remember correctly, he said it's not specifically about drugs it's about addiction. Could be drugs, alcohol, gambling what ever. The master is the addiction itself.
If you notice, after he yells "Master" 4 times the song changes pace and becomes slow and tranquil, like just after you get your fix. But slowly, the song gets faster and more chaotic just like when the high wears off and you crash. This song is genius brought to the world through beautiful riffs and deeply emotional and thought-provoking lyrics.
Shorter version of this song: “Just say no” with sick guitar work. There, saved everyone 10 minutes. (kidding, this is a fantastic song from an incredible album)
Undoubtedly the best Metallica song by far, what a riff 🎸 although in saying that SAD BUT TRUE is a masterpiece. I think you guys are bang on with the analysis once again, keep on rocking dudes 🤟🤟
Saw this tour in 1986 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. They were the warmup band for Ozzy's Ultimate Sin tour with Jake E. Lee. What an iconic show that turned out to be!
That was the tour where Ozzy said Metallica should be headlining and they are very difficult to follow. The tour stop in Indiana, Metallica did 3 encores with Ozzy's blessing.
It’s about the addiction. The promise of something good and the inevitable end. The beginning is about the addiction promising things to you, the second half is the person questioning the addiction not giving what was promised. Musically. The first third is fast paced and frenetic as in needing a fix, the middle slowed down calm interlude is when you’re on the high and the last third is the inevitable craving for another fix. It’s amazing on a lot of levels.
To this date, one of my fave albums, ever. And I'm not the metalhead I used to be in my teens. Also, the solo in MoP still slaps harder than my dad did.
Wow I hadn’t realized you’ve never done this song before! This entire album is perfection! It is the first metal album placed in the library of congress for it’s importance and cultural significance to music.
"I will run through you" , "Taste me and you will see, more is all you need", "Blinded by me, you can't see a thing" etc. etc. give it away as it is about the drug.
its definitely about the drugs and how they take control of your life, they become your master. its not only the line about chopping your breakfast on the mirror but also "Needlework the way, never you betray".
First time I heard this song it was a mix cd and after I heard it I played this song about 4-5 times cuz I was completely blown away.. cd also had seek & destroy too.
There was a scene in the movie “old school” (Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn) when they are picking up the fraternity recruits in a black van and this song is playing in that scene 😂😂😂😂
The first solo “the clean and soft solo” is actually by James Hetfield not Kirk Hammet! Yes James can also do amazing solos like that. And in all honesty that’s my favorite part of this whole entire song! Don’t get me wrong, other parts and the entire song is amazing, but that part is just beautiful as hell! Have to admit
Awesome reaction! This song is having a bit of a comeback lately due to it being in the new season of Stranger Things, which scenes are freaking AWESOME btw! Oh and it is about ALL of them things and people that take your power away from you!
You're right about the song being about drugs and more specifically how drugs are your 'master.' The album as a whole deals with different types of manipulation. IMO, it's the greatest metal album of all time.
To be fair this song live James says plenty of YEAHS throughout it lol. Plus in this song when he says "fix me!", you know originally he just said "YEAH!" but was told he has to stop saying yeah in every song so said fine i'll sat "FIX ME... but live I'm saying YEAH!... yeah...".
Fun story: we had a Chihuahua for many years named Casper (and who was a very, very good boy), and whenever this song came on, my hubs changed the lyrics to be "Casper! Casper! Master of Puppies, he's pulling my strings!" He passed of old age in March of 2020, but we love to tell people that story now. I told my boss the other day when he came over and this song was on and he had a good laugh and now he sings it to me at random times. :)
Guys it’s fine to be wrong about a song. I have friends who have been listening to this song for years and never got the meaning until recently lol. And the great thing about James lyrics is that most of them are written vague enough for the listener to interpret them to their own life and experiences
I love watching people react to this song it’s literally a heavy metal masterpiece from start to finish and it’s blatantly evident from every reaction I’ve seen to this song!
Wait? You haven't react to this masterpiece already??? Omfg come on trash talkers 😄❤ anyway better late than never 🤘 btw because of stranger things this song is one of the most streamed metal song again.
This song is a masterpiece of songwriting in general ! It's about how the drugs can rule your life. But even in term of music, when the song calms down, is to recall the effect of heroin : everythig seems beautiful, calm and nice, but quickly the need comes again and the music restart with a bigger riff and the final solo which is a bit "out" and very speed. One of the best songs ever written, metal or not !
Absolutely. That is the beauty about it. The music follows the theme as well as the lyric without over staying uts welcome, get repetitive or boring. Its a writing masterpiece.
This song is about James Hetfeilds addiction to drugs, the middle slowdown is the "High euphoria" of the drug, then it speeds up to the need for more. He's written alot of songs about his life, his struggles and mindset. The Yeahhhs came from black album and after. If you want an excellent song to react to do "Creeping Death" or "Fade to Black" both extremely meaningful songs. I've been lucky I'm an 80's Metalhead, seen Metallica 6x one of my best concerts to date!! And I've seen all the Metal Gods! Keep the reactions coming, I love seeing Y'all enjoying music that I still listen to, it's pure joy🥰❤️🔥🤘🎸 ps. Creeping Death live from Moscow, but pull words up.. its Best Live!! Apocalypse Song!!
I've never heard of James being addicted to drugs. He always had issues with alcohol. I know Lars and Kirk were into hard drugs in their younger days tho.
this was my introduction to Metallica when I was 14. my cousin couldn't believe I hadn't heard it before and played it and I've been a metal head ever since. thanks Tim lol
One of their best songs for sure. In my opinion the melodic middle part represents the rush/high on the drug of choice and the complete shredfest after that is like the despair of the user. In the end the drug (the master) has the last laugh.
Thank you for always bringing a smile to my dial boys, you don't know the difference you make to certain people's lives...legends, appreciate you guys more than you will ever know. Thank you!
You guys are right on the theme is how the person using drugs becomes a puppet to addiction (jails, institutions & death). You can hear this from from one of the very first lyrics about pushing darkest clear meaning pushing brown colored heroin out of a needle until it’s empty. Then of course chopping coke on a mirror. The chorus describes how it (the addiction) doesn’t care, will laugh at your cries, “pain monopoly “ is the game you play, etc… good reaction!!!
This song is 100% about Addiction PERIOD. Nuthin' about the troops. Disposable Heroes is 100% about the troops. The addiction could be alcohol or Any drug that makes you crawl to it Every day.
An element that I think some do not notice is the agitated music, driving music then it dives into the floating, serene melody…. This mimics the agitated state addicts find themselves before they do the drug… once the drug hits it’s a relief and a floating serene sensation… which quickly leaves and it’s back to agitation and the crave.
Not my favorite Metallica song, but we can´t deny that it is such an iconic song. I would love to see u guys reacting to other iconic song, but instead of metallica, is from megadeth. Im talking about Peace sells, such a wonderful song ^^

I knew Smoke was talking about Disposable Heros, but I'm absolutely stunned that you guys hadn't heard this yet. This song and One are often people's intro to Metallica. Glad you liked it.
A master riff from a master song from a master album. This is the riff that changed my life. The best metal album ever. I spent hundreds of hours in front of a mirror, playing "airguitar" while banging my head to this song. I'm 52 now, but even nowadays i feel the same when i hear this killer riff. I just close my eyes and be that 17 year old boy that i was when i heard this masterpiece the first time.
I've listened to Metallica for over 20 years. Spit out the bone is one of my favorite songs! It's just SO good!
I wasn't a fan of St. Anger, but their latest stuff is some of their best. It's like they tied their roots to what they learned through the Black Album on and merged it altogether.
Because they aren’t worth listening to
@@mikeydevlino I agree, "Spit Out The Bone" is one of the best songs they've made in decades and it could easily fit in with one of the old school albums like Master Of Puppets or AJFA.
The elusiveness of happiness.
Well put.
Watch Master of Puppets Seattle live 89, you'll get the best "YEAH" ever. 🤘🔥
@Ste One is a great song too. Everyone has their own opinion, could even go to say seek and destroy or blackened there are so many to choose from tbh
Great song, not sure it's their best. Top 10 for sure.
Master of Puppets is possibly the greatest metal song of all time.
Sad But True might be a top 5 song from the black album.
I have to say the greatest metal song of all time has to be ANTISOCIAL by ANTHRAX 🤟
@@waynephillips6779 I love that song, even if it is a cover, it’s great.
You need to wait for 90's recordings or live shows for the 'Yeaaaahs'
"I will run through you" , "Taste me and you will see, more is all you need", "Blinded by me, you can't see a thing" etc. etc. give it away as it is about the drug.
its definitely about the drugs and how they take control of your life, they become your master. its not only the line about chopping your breakfast on the mirror but also "Needlework the way, never you betray".
slow arpeggio in the middle is the high of drugs trip. The next part, however, is when the harmful, toxic, negative part comes in. Awesome
I had completely forgotten about that scene until just now!!
@@lauragraziano5858 lol I bet that’s exactly where he heard it tho
Their live concert in Moscow in 1991 is one of the best of all time, you should react to it someday!
They reacted to Creeping Death from that concert.
As a younger me this song used to get me so pumped. Now im not as spry as i used to be lol.
Possibly the greatest heavy metal song ever written
Competes with War Pigs, Painkiller, Hallowed Be Thy Name and a few others, but certainly one of the best for sure.
When I used to play Bass & played this I always sang "Blaster of Muppets" 😜
This song is fantastic and the album a Masterpiece 🤘👏👍
Gotta hear "FOUR HORSMEN" from their debut album KILL 'EM ALL. Banger!
One of the songs that got me into metal and great a new generation gets that now through Stranger Things.
You guys kill it every time. Love you two. Great channel.
Listened to this entire album about a year ago driving from Seattle to Kerrville Texas and it still applies today....
You guys are on the right track. The "master" as I always understood it was the addiction itself.
IMO, it's the greatest metal album of all time.
good thing is you are listening it in right volume ... great reaction by the way
This song is 100% about drugs not the dealers but the drugs controlling you
The song Master of Puppets is about the horrors of drug addiction.
... Or ANY addiction.
Ill say it`s about cocaine addiction, and the slow part vs the fast part is the ups and downs, as cocaine is both an upper and a downer.
To be fair this song live James says plenty of YEAHS throughout it lol. Plus in this song when he says "fix me!", you know originally he just said "YEAH!" but was told he has to stop saying yeah in every song so said fine i'll sat "FIX ME... but live I'm saying YEAH!... yeah...".
Great song! So many change ups. I don’t watch Stranger Things either. I’ve heard this was about drugs.
Happy birthday Shan5!
Thank you Linda! 😊
Fun story: we had a Chihuahua for many years named Casper (and who was a very, very good boy), and whenever this song came on, my hubs changed the lyrics to be "Casper! Casper! Master of Puppies, he's pulling my strings!"
He passed of old age in March of 2020, but we love to tell people that story now.
It's crazy we haven't but we swear we did. And shoutout to Stranger Things.
My fav metal song+that fire channel intro= chef's kiss 😙👌
🎧🎶🎉🎶🎧 Perfect way to start my day of birth. Y'all are fuckin awesome. P.L.U.R.R. from ATX!
Happy b day!
@@kristaspecht Thank you! Fun fact: Two free Slurpees for those of us born on this date. 🤣🤣🤣
It’s my birthday too! Happy birthday to us 🥳
@@ShanLH5 Happy birthday to us! 🥳
About "military drugs" - you can search for "baltic tea" - cocain mixed with vodka.
It is about drugs being the Master while the ones addicted are the puppets 🔥🔥🔥…..greatest band ever 🤘🤘😊….next one; Damage Inc. 🔥🔥🔥
I bet they don’t catch the MTV News tie-in
Or My Last Words by Megadeth, it is Lars Ulrichs favorite song by them and in my own opinion Daves best solo.
I heard this song in '86 and was hooked instantly.. you guys gotta check this song out live in seattle '89, you'll definitely hear him say Yea in there
The song is about how drugs destroy your life.
Morning! Oh hell ya! Love this song and this album! Great choice guys!🤓
The title song from Metallica's masterpiece (also their last true metal album). A lyrical journey describing cocaine addiction.
if... And Justice for all.. isnt true thrash metal for you, you dont know metal
Last true metal album? Are you serious?? ...And Justice For All???????
@@4md17 they drown out the bass, they began to put in songs like One, Many of us that followed the band before Kirk and Cliff think the same. Justice is a great album but it was also the beginning of their move toward trying to be more radio/MTV friendly. Not shitting on the album, just being honest.
@@Joepacalypse1107 the structure of songs, complexity of the riffs, the lyrics... that was not mainstreem. the best album because this reasons except the bass lacking and thats why i listen only onufficiall versions with bass. people who are listining to mainstreem would shit their pants if they heard dyers eve, harvester or bleckened.
@@Joepacalypse1107 and what the hell is wrong with One?!
This is when trash was king. If you like thrash you should check out HAVOK. They took the inspiration of the big 4 and have the old school trash sound but modern.
Blackened
I saw them on this tour in Birmingham Uk - Cliff was dead before the week was out after the gig
You would definitely get a "YEAH" if this was live!!
It's even better live. The S&M concert was epic..and the "Yayeh" is in the live version lol

" Chop your breakfast on a mirror" relates to cocaine aka booger sugar/nose candy. Needlework the way refers to herion.

Most of the "yeahs" are coming from live perfomances, thanks for dope content 🤘
Now you should watch a live version! The audience is expected to participate. One of their most popular songs.
Metallica lyrics are right on, always bringing you to think, I love music that opens your mind, to see the reality, and not the lies of the world.
One of thier greatest songs imo with a very strong message and meaning.
I was 8 or 9 years old jamming this on cassette tape daily when it was released! F’ing loved every second of it!
