coady willis. big business and the melvins, he was also in murder city devils. danny was never in the melvins but tool did divorced with the melvins on crybaby which also has a great drum battle. adam jones from tool also played synth on hostile ambient takeover.
20,000 fans, incredible music, amazing drum solos, and Adam's thinking, "I wonder how I can set the mood. Ah, a tree. Let's put it here. No, it doesn't look good in that light, what about here? Perfect ambiance."
That is Maynard in the green tee with the green tree. I was at this show in the sixth row (floor seats). It took place in Reading, PA at what was then called the Sovereign Center. At the end, MJK tells Coady (Drummer for Big Business) to "Clean that shit up, buddy! But leave the trees."
there is no 'battle' when you're playing in the same universe as carey, let alone room. but back when i played percussion we would often 'talk' to each other on the drums. i prefer the term, makes more sense imo..
@@vinchenzo2502 This show took place in Reading, PA on Monday, July 16th, 2007 (date is also in the title) at what was then known as the Sovereign Center. I was there, floor seats via sixth row aisle, essentially directly in front of 'GuitArtist' Adam Jones. Justin Chancellor chugged exactly six bottles of (locally made) Yuengling beers. When the tune concluded, MJK jokingly told Big Business drummer Coady to "Clean that shit up, buddy! But leave the trees."
Haha my thoughts exactly, and the fact that they both managed to keep their own, despite the size of their kits and the amazingness of Danny, is crazy.
Great Post, crommunication, Jeez, Who pissed in your cheerios. Chill dude, Tool is awesome and so are another 100,000 other bands. Enjoy while you can because you never know what comes next. Again Thanx for the awesome post
I was lucky enough to see them do this in Richmond. Speaking of lucky, I got to see both legs of this tour. The setlist and performance for the second leg was great but the first one was the best.
amazing. i wish i was there. drumming against danny is like trying to freestyle against sage francis, you gotta raise your game or sit out. that dude was awesome.
cool.... i havent heard of that one but ive heard of mixing viginti tres with wings for marie and playing 10000 days on top of those two that sounds cool
Okay checked into it and you're right...But it was a band called Trans Am that opened for them in Kelowna, BC when I saw them in October (i think it was october), and it was that drummer that did the drum duet.
are they even touring stilll or has that bin loooooooooooong done cuz im 13 and got into to tool 2 years ago and i really love danny's work and i would LOVE to see them play if anyone can answer my question cuz im a new tool fan FOR LIFE please answer back
My bad. I saw them 6/29/07, so just a couple of weeks before this. I guess this kid got to travel at least the mid-north-east and toward the coast with them.
@MindlessCarrot Yeah it is. They opened for tool that tour. Also, the other cool part was every song Big Business played live, they called it Stairway to Heaven, which I thought was a very good joke!
Hey Tooly, was this at US Bank Arena in Cincy? If so I was there and this kid (I think his name was Jeremy) was legit prodigy. Epic moment in the absolute best concert I've been to, including seeing them 3 more times, and APC. Maynard was just ON that night. But if I ever forget everything else that happened in that concert, I won't forget this part. I still talk about it to this day.

@Roadiepat If you were, can you please explain?? Can anybody explain?? Who is on the 2nd drumkit?? Was it Maynard causing the paper to be blown? The guy showing up with the guitar throwing all the paper on top of the drums doesnt look that much like Adam Jones. Makes me wonder if it was even Justin holding the bass line. Where was this show? Anybody? @ToolyBagels you know dude I wish you had used the Description section, it exists specifically for this purpose
Umm this show was in Reading, PA and I was 5 feet from the stage. That is not Aaron Harris from Isis, just FYI. That is Cody Willis from Big Business/Melvins.
@JaKexSyN Hahahaha I've listened to every Tool song many times. I admit that I was wrong about this riff not being included as the rhythm part of the intro, but I remembered it as predominately being in the bridge.
I dunno, I think that the other guy was really good regardless. One that that struck me was that Danny has WAY more mics on his symbols than the other guy, and I believe that Danny's volume is also a bit bigger. None the less a good show from both. And the fact that he took the tee peeing with strides and just kept going shows hes a professional. Bravo.
never loughed so much when maynard trew toilet paper to the other drummer. No words for the little tree he put near him. Anyway the best Lateralus drmduet on youtube
u need to check deeper my friend...big business opened for them during the north east dates... mansfield mass, portland maine, and albany new york, there were different openers during the tour and all of them did a drum battle with danny...only this guy was definately the best... peace
@melonheed3 well yeah im sure its a little different but they're not going to intentionally mic one set different than the other the levels have to be the same
as not to compare the two drummers(because that didn't look as though that was the point of this anyway) and to take way the fact that the audio isn't the best, I think it's amazing how much clearer Danny's sound is. One thing that comes from superior technique-proper projection of your instrument
lol, danny is sitting there like a drum god
He is sitting there like a drum god because he is a drum god lmao
"like"..?
I don't always smoke weed when I listen to TooL, but I always listen to TooL when I smoke weed.
5:28 ALL BOW DOWN, TO THE MAYNARD TREE!
Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
gotta give it up to the young guy to drum with danny carey
that alone is a feat
You know that guy is from the Melvin's right? The band danny played in at one point?
coady willis. big business and the melvins, he was also in murder city devils.
danny was never in the melvins but tool did divorced with the melvins on crybaby which also has a great drum battle. adam jones from tool also played synth on hostile ambient takeover.
some of the best drumming I've ever seen.

danny looks like he's being possessed by a demon unleashing itself upon his drumset.
coady Willis is killing it!!!
I was there! I was sober! I loved every second-Joe
Saw this live in San Diego... was pretty cool. I think Maynard told the second drummer "now's your chance to nut up and play"
damnit. i wanna watch the whole thing! that was EPIC!
thank you for clearing it up
i absolutely love this!
there is no 'battle' when you're playing in the same universe as carey, let alone room. but back when i played percussion we would often 'talk' to each other on the drums. i prefer the term, makes more sense imo..
I need the rest!!!
omg thats amazing
This is why I love tool
Awesome.
I saw this same guy at the July 1st show in Youngstown, amazing.
I remember seeing this in Vancouver! It was mind blowing!!
this wasnt in Vancouver it was north carolina
Glad I was lucky enough to be at this PNC show.
Great camera work! That kid is fast, but danny's wrists are faster than anyone Ive seen
I remember this. One of the greatest things I've heard live.
I was there too. it was in winston salem if i remeber right. you can actually see me and my best friend with the ball cap ons silhouettes

@@S4UBSTR4LIEN_M4RRSUPI4L this must have been the same tour then because this was literally the same show I saw and same year
I saw a Similar thing when i went to DTE in MI, very epic show. This vid brings back some great memories!
Who did you happen to see at DTE? I live in Detroit, and I've been to DTE probably 30 times... Hell, we might of even been at the same show lol
far out that was great!
Haha my thoughts exactly, and the fact that they both managed to keep their own, despite the size of their kits and the amazingness of Danny, is crazy.
omg i remeber them doing this in the garden in boston and i was trippin balls!!!
both were sick.
THATS how you do a drum battle!!! Nice upload man!
Now they are two of the most talented people i've seen in a long time!
Great Post, crommunication, Jeez, Who pissed in your cheerios. Chill dude, Tool is awesome and so are another 100,000 other bands. Enjoy while you can because you never know what comes next. Again Thanx for the awesome post
It's perfect
Was at this show, such a fucking epic performance of Lateralus, not to mention they dropped Flood on us that night. Thanks!
I lived this concert @ the xcel energy center !
Fuckin awesome
I was lucky enough to see them do this in Richmond. Speaking of lucky, I got to see both legs of this tour. The setlist and performance for the second leg was great but the first one was the best.
sickest drum vid ever
this was in stl..i was there trippin balls!!! didint even seem real that i was watchin the greatest band ever!
When Danny attacks his kit it erupts in a thunderous quaking explosion of precision and power, devastating my ears
amazing. i wish i was there. drumming against danny is like trying to freestyle against sage francis, you gotta raise your game or sit out. that dude was awesome.
This is awesome. They changed the meter...yet the bass part seems identical. Lateralus at the end was in cut time (2/2), this is in 6/8
LOL You're Right!
Was this in Huntington WV?? If so I was there and this concert is still the bomb talk about it all the time! So amazing
Reading PA. Sick show. I was there.
Yea thy did a drum off in huntington wv the one I went to
Portland Maine also what a show@@MoyYatMikeD
Danny's set is so monstrous you can barely make him out! And the gong is the best!
It was in Grand Rapids, MI
@polyshednj that's a cool way to look at it. I never thought of that. Even still though, I'd be scared shitless to be on a drumset near Danny Carey.
They both shred, but Danny could kick his ass in arm wrestling, lol. Great vid, 5 stars!
@jmgallo732 Thanks for the help man. At least one of my doubts is answered.
cool.... i havent heard of that one
but ive heard of mixing viginti tres with wings for marie and playing 10000 days on top of those two
that sounds cool
i was right next to this camera, good show, the played flood.
@StephanieVergnaud it was in Grand Rapids, MI.
cool
@barackshutdown I think I know what the intro is since I play this song all the time, that riff is actually a section in the bridge.
Okay checked into it and you're right...But it was a band called Trans Am that opened for them in Kelowna, BC when I saw them in October (i think it was october), and it was that drummer that did the drum duet.

He makes it look so easy.
this guy is from the legendary band melt banana. at STL maynard said they were honored to share the stage with MB.
My bad. I saw them 6/29/07, so just a couple of weeks before this. I guess this kid got to travel at least the mid-north-east and toward the coast with them.

Some info in the description as to who the other drummer is would be nice.
eh but i live in lousisana so is there a schedule or something
they are touring, but only a few dates are confirmed thus far
coady is a great drummer. The Melvins and Big Business are also amazing

Was this at PNC in Jersey?
Are you sure? When I saw them in '07 the drum duet thing was with a drummer from the band Trans Am, who opened for them.
Is this Tweak Bird? Is this at the AT&T Center San Antonio?
@goodbyebluesky1000: haha, I can totally see Danny shredding away and twittering something at the same time.

@hunterW1134 do you not listen to any of tool's songs?
@samual42 In Australia earlier this year they did this and it was Puscifers drummer. Doesn't mean its definitely him here but it would by first guess
I love that guy just ripping away all the toilet paper xD

@TheGreaterGood80 actually its adam jones' nephew. you can read about it in their biography.
u need to check deeper my friend...big business opened for them during the north east dates... mansfield mass, portland maine, and albany new york, there were different openers during the tour and all of them did a drum battle with danny...only this guy was definately the best... peace
They did this in Baltimore with the drummer from the opening band.
@Roland3001 they sound really good, they just break easily, which doesnt matter when you get all the free cymbals you want...
@three9s ya he formed with melvins too so they have 2drummers its sick
@MsLink2
hes coady willis, nasty drummer for the melvins and big business, i think he def held his own during that, though its not a competition
danny's drumms looked so good adam thought that dudes needed a little decoration lol
the drummer from Big Business. not sure his name, but they opened for Tool
@stephiejane1 Coady Willis of The Melvins and Big Business. Both of those bands are incredible. You should check them out.
@melonheed3 well yeah im sure its a little different but they're not going to intentionally mic one set different than the other the levels have to be the same
this is the drummer from big busisness? they did this at the show I saw in st. paul
what city is this?
The guy was the drummer for whoever opened for Tool if that helps... it was 2008 I believe
sweet that's Coady from Big business!
i love how manyard comes out of no where with a tree
who is the drummer in the front?
@jwhiteyoung That wasn't maynard at all dude, lol.. how the hell did you get maynard from that?

@bumcookie1 it did eat it after the show, it must feed on smaller drum sets to help DC sound like a drum wizard. the yin to his yang, if you will.
