doesn't matter how many times... you will be able to pay him when they finally release their next album... hopefully (and likely) this year. funny that your three year old comment is far closer to now than when they released 10K days.
in an interview danny said that when tool tours he'll play around with the songs so that he doesn't become bored with the set list night after night. you're telling me that he's able to do this night after night and has gotten to a point where he needs to make it more difficult just to keep interested? that's just unholy
This a really cool drum riff. It sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. So original and unique sounding. Danny Carey is not only skilled but he is very creative to be be able to come up with stuff like this.
He’s doing 2 hits on the snare and Tom. The beats are shifted so that it’s 3:8 like this o o o o o o o o o o o o Then he clicks the hi hat on every 4th beat making a 4/3 polyrhythm. Meanwhile he’s doing a cyclical pattern on the kick like this O O. O O. O O. O OO OO.
I can't place what it is. There are drummers who play faster and drummers with crazier polyrhythms, but none of them sound anywhere near as good as Danny sounds to me. Everything just sounds so punchy, powerful, and in complete control. Every hit is the perfect volume to accentuate the beats he most wants to draw your attention to and it flows in a way I've never heard before. Truly a spectacle to watch.
Mike Kanis this is exactly how I think about it. The harmony with how he blends every single note is unreal and so mesmerizing. How does he even conceive these pieces. He is a musical Genius!
Danny concentrates almost entirely on how his drumming sounds in coordination with the band. He doesn't just solo things out himself, even though he can obviously do that too.
@@tiphotisted The main thing I've noticed is that HE leads, not the other way around. It seems as though everything is following him, as it should. I cant STAND when drummers just make a simple 4/4 beat that follows the guitar and bass. It's so generic and predictable. He brings in so many different time signatures and polyrhythms, truly stunning shit.
To this day, I still don't understand in the slightest how Danny creates and executes the drum parts that he does. I will always be in awe of his ability to create truly interesting drum parts.
I understand theoretically how he executes it at a basic level. I "can" execute a lot of it after diligent practice, give or take 5 or 6 errors here and there. But yes, it's the CREATING them where his genius is.
Owen McKinley I'm not a drummer but tool is my favorite band and Danny is the guy that made me listen and notice other drummers as well. But still no one I have heard creates these vast almost hypnotizing peaces that are so beautiful, chaotic and harmonic at the same time. It baffles me with every song how stunning his pieces are. I'm a fan for 13 years now and I'm still in awe when I hear/watch him play. What's your favorite tool song Owen? And what's your favorite drum song from tool? (I song your cover of this, it's the best tool drum cover on UA-cam)
I can barely balance my check book and keep a rhythm running. I understand how amazing a drummer Danny is, but I can't understand how he can keep such a complex timing and make everything look and sound so strong and smooth. It's like trying to describe advanced quantum physics to a frog.
Wait wait wait. The video is a bit pixelated but let me get this right... did he break the stick in his right hand, then pass the stick from his left to right hand while tossing the broken stick in order to keep playing with his right hand. And then grabbing a new stick from his left... All In about 1/4 of a second and not really missing a beat! Holy f'ing crap!
Guys there's a miss understanding and I know why, cause the video quality is crap, he dropped the stick. than he handed it the remaining to the other hand than grap a back up stick, just notice, if he dropped one the recovery time should be longer, There"s also Tomas Haake, he is incredible at recovering mistakes,
I'm always blown away whenever I watch Danny do his thing on drums. The level of sophistication, complexity and precision to pull this off live is just mind-blowing. I remember seeing the Lateralus tour when they would play this, and everyone around me had the "WTF!" faces on them after 20 minutes of Disposition/Reflection/Triad. In my opinion, this is Tool's magnum opus.
Have you agree with you on this. His creativity is, like you said, uncanny. When I take it upon myself to try to figure out one of his time signatures, after sometimes weeks of drilling if I finally nail it, it occurs to me that if I lived for a million years I would NEVER have thought of it myself.
i've seen Danny performing with Tool here in México in this year and he is a really big guy, his set looks soo tiny and he always dresses a beisbol t-shirt and a shorts and a lot of character. One the greatest drummers in this world
I realize at the age of 48, that i have never really heard a real percussionist until this moment in time. Holy Shit! How is this physically possible?!
I remember sitting in my 12th grade English class watching this video trying to understand the pattern and fully freaking out when it clicked. What an awesome musician
It's been around 10 years that I keep coming back to this video ... never gets old. It still blows my mind everytime I watch this like it's the first time
Did anyone else see him break a stick, throw it, switch hands, and pick up another?!? All while still playing. What.. the.. fuck... I had to show that part to my friend 5 times because he couldn't catch it
So I walk over to my drumset acting like I'm awesome. I look at this video for inspiration, and in a fit of hairy rage I throw my drumsticks at the wall. The wall lived.
aaaaaaaand this is the 4,877th time I've watched this. lol Danny Carey is a fucking genious along with the rest of the band. Do any of them suck? Nope.
hes is good , because he is able to understand what the music needs in a source of studying music and sacred geometry and understanding the laws of spirituality and consciousness
He plays the most difficult and creative rhythms poll rhythms and a load of odd time signatures he can loose are break a stick grab another and never lose his place in a really fast and complex part and most of u probably didn't even notice it was so fast I didn't either the first time I watched but I seen this at least 100 times never gets old simply amazing
This whole vid is beyond my comprehension but at around 7:10, Danny goes beyond the capabilities of video. You can hear everything but it can't be captured. It's like he erupted and exploded! This is an unbelievable level of skill and talent!
I wish I had the eloquence to properly describe the level of awe I am in. Sadly, my linguistic skills are lacking at this point in time. Thus, I am forced to respond with a "Holy fucking shit"
Same, I've been trying to get this song down too. But only for the past couple months. I can get a decent way through it, but when it comes to the polyrhythmic section, I kinda have to fudge it lol. I just can't figure out that ride pattern in relation to the kick to save my life. Such a difficult song...
Thumbs up if no matter where you are or what you're doing, whenever Triad really kicks of around 4:45, you can't help but air drum... if you aren't already
I couldn't even make it a minute into thos song before I lost it..... A live transiton.... Perfectly translated..... Jesus fuck. What a time to be alive....
Tool is honestly the best band EVER. People always call tool fans dickriders but it's not our fault that the band itself sets the bar so DANGEROUSLY high that its virtually impossible to surpass. lol
my first Drum Hero is Danny Carey... then due to no new tool albums lately I listed to other bands, great drummers and etc and forgot about how great he is... then I listened to this... I remembered now why I choose him as my Drum Hero in the first place... L|:)
This sould be in hd format. Not for myself, for humanity. We need this.
Someone actually enhanced and upscale this whole drumcam set! Just look it up on here.
After watching this for the 9th time I feel I owe him money
AJAJAHHAHAHAJAGAHAJHAHAHAjhH
This is my 57 time
Never seen an octopus playing drums☺

Not neccessarily more difficult, just different ^^

The man is a frigin beast bro he is the greatest
Breaking the monotony. Boredom is not a burden anyone should bare.
Damien Ducote he’s not a man he’s a freakin god
I am a 31 year old male, and after watching this video, I am pregnant with twins. Thank you Danny Carey!!
hahahaha if only i could add comments to favorites
Miguel Rodríguez Vecino I think you can Broba Fett.
Tanner Garcia It was my pleasure
is that from will ferrel or his curly haired cousin?
Lol

The only drummer I can think of is Tomas Haake from Meshuggah.
The new Pneuma drum cover is better! Raw talent.
He's the best drummer alive, Simple
Ska Vo I agree
Now that Neil Peart is no longer with us, I'd have to agree.
ejl1000 not to disrespect Neil, that dude was fucking amazing, but I just think Danny is truly the greatest rock drummer to ever live
@@trigger796 Neil was the most influential, but Danny is the greatest bar none.
To this day, I still don't understand in the slightest how Danny creates and executes the drum parts that he does. I will always be in awe of his ability to create truly interesting drum parts.

And the crazy thing is I’m pretty sure he just started playing drums because the band next to his house needed a better drummer.
Exactly! Best drummer ever!
I'm quite convinced that this isn't actually Danny playing, it's just a vessel which happens to be Danny Carey
WORD
I can barely balance my check book and keep a rhythm running. I understand how amazing a drummer Danny is, but I can't understand how he can keep such a complex timing and make everything look and sound so strong and smooth. It's like trying to describe advanced quantum physics to a frog.
Probably countless days spent in insane practice routines. Probably twice my life worth of drumming practice. That's 34 years...
He breaks a stick and you can hardly notice. Amazing skills. What Danny has you can't teach
Owen Davies 5:25.. No doubt smooth as hell... Absolutely insane...

I had to watch watch it 15 times to even see that. I honestly don't understand how that was possible. Breaks at 5:20.

Danny never seizes to amaze me. His execution in live performances is flawless not to mention extremely technical and difficult.
I just love the way he lifts and rears his arm back and then smacks it hard as crap like a wave, so cool
Just imagine if he had 3 arms. God damn!
But he does! Cant u hear? :)
I cant even lol
Wait.... he doesn’t?
You're telling me he doesnt?
He practically does. He said in an interview I saw of him that he trains his feet just as if they were 2 more hands.

The sound that danny gets in the performance of his drums during triad is really very powerful is amazing.
THIS IS WHY Danny Carey is the greatest to ever live.
this dude is hands down a serious writer and performer. he's definitely number one

No milk, hits harder than fight milk.
This song singlehandedly cured the genetic disorders in the McPoyle bloodline.
Ah, a fellow man of culture.
Arguably hits harder than the collapse of the theory of evolution, because science...is a liar. sometimes.
man to be one of the few privileged enough to see this live...wow
Danny has the ability to tap into the realms where gods dwell.
That's the sickest snare i've ever listened in my whole life, so glorious
His whole kit sounds amazing. The drum shells are made of bronze, melted down cymbals.
"he definitely studied jazz"
He has total command of each limb regardless of the time signature
Absolutely sublime.
