- This guide will enable you to quickly master Heist and theft missions in Elite Dangerous Odyssey! If you want to unlock the engineer Terra Velasquez, you’ll need to complete six Covert Heists and six Covert thefts. This video will help you do this like a boss!

Correction: The guide states that you need 6 Covert Heists and 6 Covert Thefts to unlock Terra Velasquez but this is incorrect. Frontier have confirmed this process is bugged and some missions simply do not count towards the total (it is still bugged). Terra should be unlocked after just 6 of EITHER Covert heists or thefts. I'll update when the bug is fixed.

@Colin McMillan Another original eighties player here and I'm with you on that. While I can still manage to go in guns blazing, this type of mission is lots of fun if you try and avoid casualties. Patience is a style of gameplay us oldies should be good at!

I've been struggling so much with odyssey missions and constantly dying and failing. These great guides mean I can finally understand the mechanics and begin to start completing missions. Thank you so much!
You can also have an npc open a door for you and get inside just running alongside it. Obviously in such a chase you can also usually clone its profile but that takes longer and often isnt required or even useful (lvl 1 access for example).
Just completing another covert heist right now and the rush of snatching something valuable or downloading data (because why waste the opportunity once your primary objective is done) without anyone noticing or even warning me to get out of a restricted area is kind of amazing. I could leave a trail of bodies, but that's boring challenge-wise - I'll do that in conflict zones or when scavengers take the first shot at me. Your guides for the stealth stuff have been very useful!
My stealth game has increased 10 fold thanks to your videos. It's not uncommon for me to eliminate an entire settlement without being spotted now.
Love the stealth game. I've been known to run off with power regulators just because I can.

Finished my first covert heist mission in an AGRI building. NPC restored the machine several times before I could steel the probe. What helped me is to walk to NPC blocking its way until countdown the stairs up had finished. Then rushing to the sample and out of the building. Your guide helped me very much . o7

Edit: Your example of a sample containment unit inside a trespass zone is the exact one I encountered last night, down to the exact same settlement type and layout. I watched that same guard's patrol and did exactly as you did (crouching to walk up, standing to get the item and leaving the trespass zone). I was tripping out watching you do the exact same thing lol.
It's one of the toughest! Actually trying to do it from the other side is harder, too.

Thanks to these videos, I managed my first successful covert heist mission yesterday. Unfortunately the target was within a restricted area in a large AGRI so my visit also coincided with an epidemic of cardiac arrests. 😜

Packed with useful facts, and you have a very pleasant voice and manner for putting it across. The only thing I'd say, and this possibly just me, but maybe slow it down a bit. It's a bit rapid for my brain to take in, and your videos are good enough that if they lasted a bit longer, that would be a positive thing. Subscribed. :-)
Thanks! It's a conscious decision to keep it ultra concise for a number of reasons but I'll try to add some measure.

I actually got stumped by a mission for the first time today. It was a nonviolent heist at a small industrial settlement.
Found a terminal by the landing pad with no guards, e-breached it looking for the alarm controls. None were present. So I proceeded to clone the appropriate ID and break into the IND building. I figured if there's no alarm control, there's no alarm. I was wrong. As soon as I touched the sample containment, the alarm went off. I made it out of the building without trouble. Ran into a guard on the way and had to dump my cloned profile.
Seeing as it was a nonviolent mission, I wasn't sure how to proceed without drawing massive aggro because the whole settlement was on alert. I poked around for a bit hoping for a window, but never had a chance. Then a random civilian became hostile, shortly followed by the entire settlement so I booked it out of there and abandoned the mission.
I've been so focused on stealth, I'm at a loss of what to do if your can't disable alarms AND can't kill anyone.
If you can tell me the settlement name and system that would be great. There's a ticket for this issue.
To complete these missions when the alarm has gone off, simply hide during the 3 minutes. The npcs don't necessarily attack you.
@@StealthBoyElite Unfortunately, I didn't take note of the system and settlement. However, it's in my local area of space. I'll poke around and if I find it, pass it along.
I wasn't sure if anyone would go hostile if I stuck around so I hightailed it out of the building. Got caught by a guard on the way out and had to dump my cloned profile. When I went back in, I put an e-breach on the door. That's probably what doomed me. Everyone I ran into was on alert, but otherwise non-hostile towards me. However, a few minutes later a civvy outside that same door suddenly turned hostile. It must have been the e-breach and my proximity to it.
Another question for you. I've had mixed experience with the "get out of jail" card with NPCs when you get caught in a restricted area. I'll leave quickly, but often they still turn hostile if I hang around right outside. I've found that I typically have to run away and find a place to hide, out of sight, to avoid it. Strange.

@@johndowding4245 I've recorded footage of me setting the alarms off via a container and just sitting there watching the NPCs mill about in a sort of weird panic but they ignored me as I'd not broken any rules. It isn't actually illegal to open these containers. In fact, the alarms going off helped me in this mission (it wasn't covert, obviously :D). The NPC inside the restricted area panicked and ran out of the room, never to return hah. So I could just waltz back in and take the item unopposed.
I may cover this stuff at some point, though unsure if it warrants an entire video. I think I may do a "10 things you didn't know" type thing soon. Got some useful things to throw into that.

This is excellent. I've done a few of these and now picked up a few more tips, thank you.
I've also found tagging NPCs via the terminal helps you see where they are. If there's a terminal nearby, tag them, wait for them to move on, then sneak on by. This can be helpful when guards patrol indoors.

For everyone in 2022, so glad that these guides exist, but there have been patches, has anything changed or is this still spot on?
There are some differences. You don't need so many opinion polls nowadays, I think it's 10 now (which is good). Maybe some other things but generally speaking the guide should still be on point if you're looking to build a stealthy/scavenger type set of gear.
Great video. It is worth noting that you can use your alternate function of your suit power charger to stun the NPCs. I am not sure if it stuns or kills but they don't seem to ever get back up either way. The important thing is to make sure another NPC does not path across them or they will freak out.
It kills them. I've covered the use of the energy link overcharge in my alpha videos. It's definitely useful in the right hands!
I did one yesterday and failed cuz I tripped the alarm by turning the power off. I thought I'll disable the settlement first before entering but no.
Good idea! But sadly it won't work. But if you disable the alarms then it will be fine. Got you covered in this guide for that too :)
I would like to see missions you need upload/download a piece of software.
Because last time I tried that...a local alarm went off, and I had to kill 7 NPC's.
I'll cover sabotage/operations at some point. But you can do the same as heists and disable alarms first too.
Guess who just unlocked Terra Velasquez? Spoiler: me. Also seemed to back up the observation by others that covert thefts aren't reliably counting, or counting at all sometimes. I did exactly 6 successful covert heists to unlock, but I can't say how many of those or the thefts were counted by the game; Inara lists all 6 covert heists as completed.

Did the behavior for NPCs change once you take a Sample Containment item? Once I take it the NPCs turn yellow and then usually red and start shooting me (not inside a restricted area). I pick it up and run right out but people start shooting.

Has anything changed in an update since this video was made? I've just done a non-violent heist mission to steal a sample but as soon as the sample housing opens or I take the sample the workers turn hostile on me and start shooting, it was NOT in a restricted area. I had disabled the alarms but as soon as I made a run for it all the guards outside were also hostile.

covert theft missions i find plenty but covert heist missions seem to be pretty rare. i visit a lot of systems 5-7 to have a mission board providing one. is there a state/system/goverment situation which provide many or deny covert heist missions?
It was the opposite for me! It'll be tied to BGS but whether it's heist or theft, I think that's just down to chance.
I was doing a covert heist/theft mission yesterday, and when I got inside the building that had the item I had to steal, ALL the NPC's stood still. The one in the restricted area I needed to pass through was in a position where no matter which door I could use to get through the a restricted area, it was within a 45 degree angle of the doors. It always looked at me every few seconds. Eventually, I killed it to get past it, but when I encountered a guard a bit further on, I dumped the level 3 clearance profile, but forgot about the 1000cr wanted I had gotten myself. Mission failed. Grrr
Doh! I've seen the bug where npcs standing still. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it makes it very hard. Hope they fix it.
Hate to say it... I was in a non-restricted area, activated the panel with an NPC looking, instant alarms were raised even tho0ugh they didn't care that I was there before.

i dont get it..terra velasquez wont unlock. do i ahve to do 6 covert theft and 6 covert heists to unlock her? or 6 of one type in a row?
The devs are looking into it, it looks like thefts may not always work
Seems like NPC become suspicious around the opened heist and sabotage containers now (and will shoot you if they see you nearby)
Does killing all settlement inhabitants count as undermining? Or it resets after going in supercruise?
I doubt it, I think that's all just Horizons.

2:00 Hello, do you mean that I've to do 6+6 missions ? Or I only have to success 6 Covert theft or heist missions ?
6 of either (confirmed by a CM for the game on their official forums). But there's a bug (also confirmed by the same CM) that prevents some missions registering towards the total. Given we cannot see our progression as a counter for this, there's no way of knowing which missions register and which do not. So my advice is always just "keep doing them".

Also, just thought I'd let you know I've just completed my first ever covert heist mission, and thanks to following *your* advice, it went completely without a hitch ! I didn't get scanned at all, I didn't get detected, I swiped a level 3 pass from an Engineer through a window and _he_ didn't see me, I sneaky-peeked around until I found the settlement alarms and shut *those* off, and then I casually saunter-grabbed the sample I needed, and managed to get back to my ship, with *nobody* the wiser ! Thank you so much, and please do keep on making your content, because it's brilliant =D
Thanks for the video. It is really good. I am having trouble finding the missions. In most cases it is just "Heist" or "Theft" without Covert. Is there any BGS or other component that helps with Covert mission spawn? Thanks.
I don't think there is, I think it's just a percentage chance. Best you can do is get a system with the maximum missions allowed (70 I think) and get allied to all factions.
Then check every 10th minute of the hour when it updates. I checked the npcs in the concourse too.

i was told terra velasquez only counts Heist that theft missions will not count. is this true/?
No, thefts can count they're just bugged. My access triggered after a covert theft. But I had to do lots.
It's still bugged so far as I know, so just do as many as you can but prefer heists where possible.
I can't find any Covert theft missions?
They can be difficult to find sometimes and I think it's mostly random. Go to a system where there are the maximum of 75 missions on the concourse board, try to get allied with the factions to increase the number you're offerred. Remember that the mission board refreshes every 10th minute of the hour so you can wait for that. And check the NPCs each time as they sometimes have one on offer.
Had a mission to an Agri settlement that A - Had no disable alarm panel and B - the target locker didnt show up on the console! I basically got caught as i had no choice but to search through all the buildings trying to find it. any suggestions for this kinda scenario?
So far, I've only found one settlement type with no alarm panel and it's an industrial type. I've seen 6 agri and all of them have the panel but I'm sure there could be a bug or two. Can you tell me the location? Even the settlement name would do.
I've raised a ticket on the tracker for this issue and we can vote it up if we can confirm it's happening elsewhere.
@@StealthBoyElite think I worked it out. Access levels effect terminals to so I couldn't see where the alarms panel was

Hey Stealth Boy, there is one other get out of jail free card you can use. If a guard is coming to scan you and you want to avoid it, draw your weapon on him. He will then order you to put it away. Do so and he will warn you not to do it again and walk off completely forgetting about the scan! Only works once tho. Next time they will shoot on sight if you draw again.
@@SpaceHero-Elite yeh it's a good tip. It feels a little "glitchy" so subject to potential patching I think. Still worth knowing.
These warnings aren't additive though, so this would count against entering the restricted area (you don't get two goes, one at each type of warning!)
6+6 -> 12 missions or just 6 one of them?
6 of either but there's a known issue with it right now (that they'll hopefully fix soon). Aim for covert heists. They're less problematic.
Gotta wait till Autumn for odyssey to drop for consoles...

Since that video was made, Fdev patched the game and let us assign that function to a key. So I've set mine to a key on my mouse that I can hit instantly when I get scanned.

No, not really (not intended anyway). I did play Fallout 3 years ago and I know all about the Stealth Boy gadget. Maybe it was a subliminal influence on me?
The name was one I chose simply because I began this channel as a way to work out how stealth worked in Odyssey during the beta test, when little was known about the expansion.
Last Thursday I bought Maverick suit 3rd grade with Quieter Footsteps and Enhanced Tracking mods, does that means that I can run as quiet as I crouch? Couldn't find any detailed info on Quieter Footsteps mod on fandom wiki or inara.
That's a great find, I'm jealous! Quieter footsteps is unavailable right now due to Yarden Bond remaining locked (there's an issue with smear campaign plans not appearing in game). So I'd have to ask you to test that for me lol

@@StealthBoyElite According to my tests it seems Quieter Footsteps doesn't influence run/walk detection, as NPCs still react to movement within first sector radius on radar.

will today be the 3rd time I quit elite for a 6 month+ period? probably. I hate these missions, I hate everything in between the missions, I hate the grinding. I hate that I have 7 billion dollars that I've been sitting on for 4+ years now and I've been reduced to petty theft for engineering again. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Well, so far completed 1 out of the 6 missions....fucking...not one second of this is fun. Why. And why is all on foot gameplay completely separated from ship gameplay. FUKKKKK why am I even bothering again. *sigh*
Thanks for subscribing and commenting :) I feel your frustration, EDO isn't for everyone. What is it you dislike about the on foot game play, is it just the missions? Do you like the combat but dislike the stealing aspect? I will be covering other similar games that I play in future (and I have my eye on Starfield's development as a strong contender).
